Son stops joking around when the Pathfinders find the truth about Ellux' scheme. He puts a hand on Arin's shoulder, and with a whisper that only Arin can register, says "That's tough, pal. Let me know if I can do anything or if you need someone to talk later..."

You cannot take 20 on a Knowledge check. Taking 20 implies that you keep trying until you roll a 20, i.e.

Quote:
"Taking 20 means you are trying until you get it right, and it assumes that you fail many times before succeeding. Taking 20 takes 20 times as long as making a single check would take (usually 2 minutes for a skill that takes 1 round or less to perform). Since taking 20 assumes that your character will fail many times before succeeding, your character would automatically incur any penalties for failure before he or she could complete the task (hence why it is generally not allowed with skills that carry such penalties). Common “take 20” skills include Disable Device (when used to open locks), Escape Artist, and Perception (when attempting to find traps)."
We also have the following from the Knowledge skill, i.e.
Quote:
"Retry? No. The check represents what you know, and thinking about a topic a second time doesn’t let you know something that you never learned in the first place."

Therefore, taking 20 on a knowledge check is basically the equivalent of rolling a natural 1: if you can make the Knowledge DC by rolling a 1, you're successful. If not, you've failed.

Diplomacy and Fascinate... aaaaaaarrghhhh...... beeeeeeeeeer.....

Diplomacy, H, RoC: 1d20 + 17 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 17 + 5 + 2 = 41

Fascinate (Su):
Each creature to be fascinated must be within 90 feet, able to see and hear the bard, and capable of paying attention to him. The bard must also be able to see the creatures affected. The Distraction of a nearby combat or other dangers prevents the ability from working. Two creatures, Will DC 16 to negate the effect. If a creature’s saving throw succeeds, the bard cannot attempt to fascinate that creature again for 24 hours. If its saving throw fails, the creature sits quietly and observes the performance for as long as the bard continues to maintain it. While fascinated, a target takes a –4 penalty on skill checks made as reactions, such as Perception checks. Any potential threat to the target allows the target to make a new saving throw against the effect. Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a weapon at the target, automatically breaks the effect. Fascinate is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting ability. Fascinate relies on audible and visual components in order to function.

You see a happy man bounding down the stairs and without missing a stride, right up to the meeting room's entrance, whistling. His black mane is unhindered by a helmet or hat, and you see a rapier and a whip at his belt. You can see a chain shirt dangling under his yellow tunic, and a buckler is strapped over his backpack. More importantly, he carries a small one gallon cask of ale under his right arm, and his left hand swings up and down with a mug as he frequently samples his latest right arm acquisition.

He strolls up the door confidently and asks Arin, "Hey, there you are! I brought ale!! do you think this will be enough?"

The man then proceeds to sing-song one or two enchantments on himself, giving a wink to Cat Rich as he does so, then opens his backpack and sets up five additional tin tankards on the table. Those in the room now somehow get the feeling that this innocuous-looking man is perhaps somehow a much more powerful warrior than they had first gauged him to be... maybe even some kind of leader trying to mask his natural authority with menial words and overly familiar demeanor...

PDK here... I'm gonna go with Son of Cayden in this one. A slightly crazy (who can blame him? he's the Son of Cayden...) melee-type bard with inspire courage and some social shennanigans.

====================================

"He goes around, spreading laughter and good times for everyone, and he's loose with his coins... some take advantage of this, ye see lad, and they pretend to be his friends, but he doesn't seem to care one bit."
"Where does he come from? he's actin' like he's known everyone fer years!"
"That, lad, no one truly knows, but it's said he's been roamin' Avistan left an' right, down an' up fer as long as people remember... judgin' from his looks, I don't think he's been doin' this fer more than a decade methinks. People he's been helping gettin' back on their feet don't seem to care where he's from, anyhow. But he's got the look of a Taldan. Me guess, if I had to pick, is that his young beginnings where anywhere in Taldor, Andoran or Cheliax, maybe somewhere rural, and born as a commoner..."
"He's pretty funny da... some of his jokes I've never heard of... some don't seem to work... it's like they were first written in another language..."
"Well, keep that to yerself lad... don't be caught sayin' that to his face. Some of the old geezers around here have seen him mad once,
and they say that he can take down a man a few pegs from far away with this whip of his. He took on three flayleaf dealers by himself on the north edge of Cassomir last fall, and those that managed to close in on him discovered he's not bad with that rapier of his either. Some think these two weapons were glowin' with some strange magicks after the fight started... better you accept any ale he buys fer ye, and smile at any joke he says... that wee courtesy is small price to pay if ye ask yer old da."
"Ok da, fair enough. Oh, and why do they call him the Son of Cay.."
"Quiet boy! don't ask, just don't ask. Not me business, and ye don't want to make it yers unless you're lookin' fer trouble! Now drink that free ale he just bought for all of us..."

Since there are many front-liner submissions already, I will select the bard to enhance/buff the whole lot.

Son of Cayden, Male Human Bard 6 (Arcane Duelist), Liberty's Edge, 4456-10

As per my previous post, I can also go low-tier (3-4) if that's a direction we wish to take instead.

Cheers,
PDK

Son of Cayden is a 6th level melee bard (arcane duelist; STR and CHA, and with inspire courage +2). He's available for all 4 adventures:

#4-06: The Green Market (5-9)
#6-21: Tapestry's Toil (5-9)
#7-03: Bronze House Reprisal (5-9)
#7-09: Blackros Connection (5-9)

He's at 16 XP right now, so if he survives, would go up to 7th level after Tapestry's Toil. I know that's a little behind the 8-9 target, but hey, bard, with +2/+2! everybody loves a weapon atk & dmg boost! ;)

The idea of a mini campaign is very appealing! thank you for offering these scenarios!

And now my laundry is done so I'm gonna go put it in the dryer and go to bed.

Thank you for doing the laundry. I've been rolling my eyes a lot in the last few years when players show up to join a group of good-aligned heroes with neutrally aligned characters worshipping evil deities. For some players it's purely to access the options published in the evil-themed books and I get it, but it's perhaps getting a bit old for some GMs.

Are there plans to develop more adventures (either as part of the modules/AP lines or via Pathfinder Society scenarios) oriented towards neutral or evil-aligned parties? I'd much prefer to see players pool their energies in forming evil parties if they want to try those options, rather than seeing them join good-aligned parties and always being 'that special guy or gal' brooding darkly in the background and trying to take every minute of spotlight trying to explain their presence rather than trying to participate in the group's goals and solving the adventure.

A man overhears the mutterings of the newly arrived wizard. Eager to perhaps steer one more fellow Pathfinder away from the unforgiving and misleading path of wizardry, the man approaches the morose hooded man with two mugs and a large pitcher of ale.

"Ah! if you don't know how this works, you have come to the right place! I am a teacher in many arts of drinking, among many things. First, you set an empty tankard down. Then, you fill it with beer. Now, there's many ways to empty it, but for today's lesson we shall attempt to drink the thing. Yes, there you go. Just like that. Keep doing that for a while. Make sure you practice many times. While you do, hear this:

Two dragons walk into a bar.
The first one says, “It sure is hot in here.”
His friend snaps back, “Shut your mouth!”

So, what do you think about this place? and how's the drinking? I'd say you're not doing too bad for your first time... look at that mug! almost empty!"

The way they're... [SEVERE WALL OF TEXT WARNING]

Spoiler:
doing the new white vision in the show is actually very, very close to the comics, and I'm very pleasantly surprised where this is going. In the comics the governments of the world dismantled vision completely, down to its parts, after he nearly triggered an armageddon by taking control on the entire world's nukes. If they follow the comics' path, this new vision body is a blank slate, rebuilt from scratch, with no memories/personality of the original vision whatsoever. In the comics, vision really died. The new rebuilt white vision could have regained most of the original's personality, but Power Man refused to imbue his personality into the new vision... The original vision in the comics had received brain patterns of Power Man. After he died, and when Scarlet Witch discovered that a new one had been rebuilt, she went to Power Man and begged him to repeat the process that had created the original Vision... Power Man refused, stating that creating Vision in the first place had been a mistake: Power Man had been in love with Wanda all along, and when he gave his personality as a template for the first Vision, and saw that Wanda fell in love with the robot, he never forgot himself. Upon hearing Power Man's refusal, Wanda flies into a rage and literally drops a mountain on him. Power Man survives. The White Vision ends up getting the personality of his shrink's son, etc. So the second vision is never the same as the original ever again... this is comics, so there's more shennanigans but this is the gist of it. Wanda ends up accepting that fact at some point and hugs it out with the White Vision, and they leave each other for good, Wanda finally accepting that her relationship with Vision is over and letting go...

Pretty sure Nigel also counts as someone who works for an oppressive or tyrannical leader yes?

After Touchy finishes with Nigel, Son of Cayden adds, "Yeah, what Touchy said... you should leave your current employer completely in fact, and strike out on your own. I'm sure some of us can get you a noble title and find you a nice spouse to start your own clan. The Society has your back..."

Diplomacy, Heroism +2, Orator faction card boon +3 vs. DC 21: 1d20 + 17 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 17 + 2 + 3 = 36

The man nods, and Son of Cayden smiles, saying "I'll start making subtle inquiries. I have the ears of Princess Eutropia in Taldor, by the way... she has friends in high places here in Absalom."

Son of Cayden, still holding his breath, puts the beacon in the lead box. Move action? if wand use is allowed while holding one's breath he will tap her with a wand of clw as a standard action; if not, he will try to find a potion on her...

Thanks Touchy! after I'm done putting the beacon in its box, I'll see to her! @GM: now that SoC is near Imrizade Blakros, what's the situation with her? (sleeping, dead, dying? what about her gear? anything lying on the ground near her she may have dropped?)

Son of Cayden stops his inspire courage as he can no longer whisper jokes to the whole party (he is holding his breath as he enters the smoke); he keeps his sword powered via Arcane Strike (swift action); he double moves and pulls the lead box out as he goes; he notices a human female (@GM: who is that lady next to the orb and SoC?)
