Sokkla nods and moves up the stairs with Tormnyr, happy to follow the more experienced fighters advise. Looking around she has an idea...

Is there any debris at the top of the stairs that Sokkla can grab this round and ready to love down the stairs when the time comes? I'm thinking a barrel or an old crate or something, something that might knock them back and hinder them on the stairs

Still here. Sorry, been here all along, just missed your post kicking things off, thought e ere still preparing

As the sounds of their foes begin to echo around, Sokkla senses everyone hunker down, tense up and raise their weapons. She copies them.

Total defence

"Its nice to meet you." Sokkla offers with a warm smile. The words sound wrote, like the words taught to a child meeting strange relatives. You are not quite sure if the bright smile is born of ignorance of the danger you face together, or bravery.

"I'll stand with Tormnyr. I'm not so experienced, but I'll do what I can. Could you..." She reaches behind her breastplate and carefully draws out a plump hen and holds it out to Zadira. "Could you take her with you? Keep her out of the front line?"

A chicken pokes it's head out from the gorget of Sokkla's armour and she gently pushes it back in.

Turning her back on the river she stands proud, sword held ready to face whatever may emerge to harm her new friends.

"I don't much fancy swimming today" It is a strangely mundane comment given the dire circumstances they find themselves in.

:D I think a sexy scar might be in order...

Fortitude: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

I love discovering new aspects to characters. If you'd asked me at creation how Sokkla would behave in this situation it might have been different. But having trashed my stealth roll and smashed through an entire building earlier, this is very much who Sokkla has become. As always, if anyone is unhappy with this or would appreciate a slight change of tack let me know. We're all here to have fun together.

Sokkla eyes up the fence as she lumbers towards it
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

If Sokkla thinks she can break the fence...:
Without slowing down Sokkla drops shoulder and runs into the fence Sokkla Smash: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

If Sokkla doesn't think she could smash the fence...:
Sokkla turns as she reaches the fence and puts her back to it, cupping her hands she boosts the others over. Boost(STR? Aid Another?): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

I'm at your mercy GM. Play it out as you see fit given those rolls.

The delay between Tormnyr emerging from the doorway and Sokkla barreling through a large window off to one side feels like hours, but in reality it is only a few seconds.

"Sorry!" she calls over her shoulder as she dusts shards of glass from her surcoat "So we keep going, we deal with the water if we get there. To the crow."

She restarts her loping, galloping gate and heads for the sound of the water.

This is where Sokkla really shines...

Stealth: 1d20 - 1 - 8 ⇒ (7) - 1 - 8 = -2

Sokkla does her best to move through the building quietly. But between her yelps as she bangs into doorframes and furniture, and her constantly yelling directions; she doesn't do a great job.

Female Half-Orc Paladin (Chosen One/ Warrior of the Holy Light) 2 | HP 22/22 | AC 17 T 9 FF 17 | Fort +5 Ref -1 Will +4 | CMB +6 / CMD +15 | Initiative -1 | Perception +1 | Darkvision 60 feet |

Sokkla backs towards Natalya, her eyes keep flicking to the motionless bodies on the floor. We killed them... just like that.

"We should go. I don't like the idea of things on the roof, ready to drop on us. Natalya, is there somewhere safe nearby or do we need to make our own safety?"

Is Natalya indicates there is safety nearby then Sokkla is running that way, if not then she will head for the tenement and find a place where their foes can't make their numbers count. A doorway or hallway that is not overlooked by roofs.

Female Half-Orc Paladin (Chosen One/ Warrior of the Holy Light) 2 | HP 22/22 | AC 17 T 9 FF 17 | Fort +5 Ref -1 Will +4 | CMB +6 / CMD +15 | Initiative -1 | Perception +1 | Darkvision 60 feet |

"Just leave us alone. This doesn't need to go like this. I don't want to hurt you like this. Just leave us alone."

Power Attack (2Handed): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

Sokkla's words sound a little hollow as she swings again at the ruffian in front of her.

@Tormnyr - No drama! I'm all in for a bust up! Somonti's not one to strike the first blow at this stage but she's also not one to run. Given her low initiative I felt like standing about talking was quite apt. I was hoping you'd kick things off. ;)

Tormnyr nips past Sokkla as she is speaking and takes a swing at the talkative stranger. Slow on her feet but wanting to help, Sokkla lumbers over and swings her father's sword at the man's quiet friend.

Power Attack (2Handed): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

@GM - Sorry if I'm out of turn here. Don't know how you want to handle initiative at this stage. I'm happy for this to wait until the next round if you think that's right.

Sokkla draws her sword, not threateningly, she holds it ready, point down.

"I don't know what you mean by rabbit, mister, but you clearly mean my new friends here harm. I am not going to let that happen. Whether I am 'a rabbit' or not remains to be seen I suppose, but I ain't a chicken."

Sokkla is pretty proud of this 'witty wordplay' she'll probably chuckle bout it later if they get out alive.

Not having ever really been in a proper fight (she was always the biggest, toughest kid growing up so no-one picked on her, the tusks helped) Sokkla is not too scared of this. She will follow Natalya's lead and run if Tormnyr is happy to do the same. But is equally happy to fight.

"I'd like to know what's going on here. I don't like secrecy. But I know there's no time. Just tell me- are we in the right and them in the wrong?"

Bodyguarding is something I can try." Sokkla smiles as the gem is pressed into her palm, though never poor she never saw such frivolous wealth growing up. "Thank you mam!"

"It seems we are to go on an adventure together Mr Dwarf. My name is Sokkla, pleased to meet you." She holds out a hand to Tormnyr.

At the Lodge

"Gods bless you m'lady, the Marquise is no 'great feathered bird,' she's just a naughty little chicken, aren't you miss." She lovingly strokes the chicken's head, it is clear there is no malice in her words.

"If you are in crisis, as you say, then if I can help then I will. I've little else going on besides my duties to pay my keep. I wont kill mind! I'm not squeamish about blood or anything like that..." she covers the Marquise's ears with her hand "I'll kill an animal if I have a need to. But killing thinking folk just isn't right."

Don't worry, Sokkla will definitely kill "thinking folk" when the need comes (or try to any way). But as yet she has a rather innocent sense of morality.

Female Half-Orc Paladin (Chosen One/ Warrior of the Holy Light) 2 | HP 22/22 | AC 17 T 9 FF 17 | Fort +5 Ref -1 Will +4 | CMB +6 / CMD +15 | Initiative -1 | Perception +1 | Darkvision 60 feet |

Sokkla makes another grab but gets nothing save a single white feather for her efforts. The Marquise clucks and flutters away once more, weaving through and between the legs on the crowded street. Without warning it stops to peck at some crumbs, spilt on the steps of a large building. "Gotcha!" Sokkla scoops the wayward hen up and lovingly tucks it under her arm. "Now where have you brought me, Miss?"

Ebrylis wrote:
"Uh, I'm sorry ma'am, but uh, livestock probably shouldn't be on the lodge grounds. I think Master Brios would really give me the business, y'know?"

Sokkla gives a warm smile "That's OK sir. I wouldn't dream o' bringing livestock onto your grounds." the smile turns into a bit of a giggle "The Marquise here's poultry, not livestock. And besides, she's 'ad her fun for today. You promise to behave don't you Miss? No fowling." This time her innocent giggle isn't so easy to hide and the restless hen slips from under her arm and between the guard's legs.

"Sorry! Come 'ere you, 'afore I make drumsticks of you! Only narrowly avoiding dozen patrons as she bumbles forward, Sokkla finally scoops up the hen as it stops to scratch the ground. Looking up with a sheepish grin she sees a middle aged brunette staring at her. "Sorry!" she repeats for what feels like the hundredth time that day.

Ok, Sokkla should be fully up to speed now.

Purchases: Wayfinder (downgraded the Ioun torch to a dull grey stone, its redundant and more interesting as a simple stone) and a couple more chickens to fill out the flock. Saving the rest for later.

The idea is that, wrapped in the armour Sokkla "stole" was her fathers old bag of accoutrements inside were trinkets and trifles along with the Wayfinder and the Ioun stone.

Evening GM

Would it be OK to get a Wayfinder (Inherited/found with the armour etc.) with my L2 funds? Just thought I'd check since you mentioned you this was going to be a PFS themed adventure, I don't want to tread on any narrative toes.

I'm all updated to Level 2. Nothing major, unlocked smite and lay on hands/paws.

Just need to go shopping. Is there anything the party thinks would be helpful for all? or can I be selfish :)

I'm putting together an Alias for the chicken too. Given the development under the chosen One archetype I think its easier to run it as a separate Alias.

Also, Sokkla, if you could put some basic information in your tag line, that would be helpful... different people do it differently, as you will see if you scroll up, but the basics are race, class, level, hit points, armor class, and your initiative and perception modifiers.

I always forget that bit! Should be done now. Copied your format ;)

HP: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 I'll take that. I'll get all up to date on Level 2 tomorrow.

Hi all

Thanks for having us.

Alias should be all up to date for level 1, just got to add level 2 in. GM, are we OK to go ahead and do this or should we hold off?

I'm happy to tweak Sokkla's crunch or fluff if anyone has any ideas.

No worries DMD - hope all is ok.

Evening GM

Are you able to tell us ho you plan for this to work? Are you waiting to see something you like or do you have a timeframe in mind for selection?

I think Sokkla is finished.

Backstory:

Sokkla was an ordinary farm girl, living with her parents in the southern foothills of the Iron Peaks. They were by no means rich, but they got by. By day Sokkla would tend to the animals. Then in the evening her father would tell tales of his youth in the big city. He told stories of the wonderful ruins and stories of the monsters found in them. Sokkla’s favourites where the stories of just before she was born, her parents had been Pathfinders! It was all very idyllic.

Then the chicken started to stare. That one chicken, the Marquise (Sokkla thought she was the one anyway.) For the next couple of weeks nothing unusual happened, just more staring. Then the dreams began. Sokkla would dream of that chicken (or a chicken at least). In her dreams it would talk to her, they would have great meandering conversations but Sokkla would never remember what they were about except that she had to head south, south and west. After a week of this Sokkla had had enough, she was not one to sit idly by; someone might need her help. She packed up the chickens (both of them, just to be sure) and, taking her father’s old armour and sword, she left. Leaving a little note:

”I’ve gone with the chickens. S
Ps. Don’t worry about me, I have my Horse.”

She headed south first of all into the Sanos forest, as long as she kept moving the dreams didn’t come. She spent weeks in the forest finally becoming utterly lost. The dream that came then was different, Marquise transformed into a huge metallic dragon. Once more they spoke at length and once more Sokkla didn’t remember much, just the direction the claw pointed in and two words, ‘Pathfinders,’ and ‘Magnimar.’ She pressed on.

After a few days she arrived in Magnimar (by barge as it happens, but that is another story) and found herself some meagre lodgings for herself and the chickens, promising work for her supper and shelter. The next day she headed for the Pathfinder lodge to find her destiny.

Appearance and Demeanor:

Sokkla has a muscular build, work on the farm built her for strength and it shows. She is not conventionally attractive, but has a kindly innocent face. She speaks in soft measured tones using simple words that have led many to falsely believe that she is stupid. She is peace-loving at heart and follows rules to a fault.

IC Post:
Sokkla steps confidently towards the desk. Her head is strangely light, she is in the very building she heard so many stories about as a child.
"Good morning. We have walked and floated a long way to be here. My name is Sokkla, I have come to join you."
She holds out her hand to the bemused Pathfinder behind the desk, her grin is sincere, if a little toothy.

Let me know if you have any notes.

PS. I am aware the spare chicken may not make it through the first day. :)

I'd like to submit Sokkla for your consideration (not yet, I know she isn't ready) she's a concept I've been mulling over for a while now. She can play a bit of tank plus a bit of healing. (Plus chickens!)

I'll get her all square with your character creation guides today. And also tie her into the Pathfinders more strongly. She is likely semi settled in a town/settlement currently, are you able to tell us where your party currently are (I don't want to read too much of your gameplay thread for fear of spoilers)

Lastly, I'm not very good at/inspired by optimising my characters within an inch of their lives. I'm looking for effective and characterful/fun to play. Does this fit with what you already have?

Presenting Sokkla, a driven but naive paladin, for consideration (along with her chickens!)

All critiques welcome.

Is this still in the pipeline?

I know you've had a lot on shady, so I'm not pushing. Just checking this is still on the radar.

Sorted.

It was a yes on background skills.

Completely forgot myself though, I'll sort that first thing...

Unless you are getting combat expertise for the defensive options Dirty fighting might make a nice alternative for a flanking rogue, you can feint earlier to.

Just made a rogue for another game, they're quite prescriptive really. You get no love for ranged work and your only real option outside of two weapon fighting is the ECB which needs proficiency...

But that's just if damage is your bag!

Have you seen the stalker and cryptic from dreamscarred?

Done

As ever, play what you most want to play.

It sounds like between you and Gamer you have ranged and traps/DDevice covered. So I guess it's up to the pair of you, I don't know how fall along Gamer was with his build...

Manoeuvres sorted.

I'm fairly new to Path of War so if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.

Alias setup. I'm just finalizing Maneuvers and then I'll pin down the backstory once we know who else is here.
