![]() I think I'll settle on this for a character concept, since I've been all over the place with everything. 20 levels to fill in the gaps, then five for the icing on top, leaves me with a want to do many things. That said, I think Ratfolk Alchemist of the Plague Bringer archetype, followed by a few levels of something else. Maybe rogue. I can't quite decide yet. ![]()
![]() Now that we're actually talking concepts, I think I'll throw a few ideas out myself. I had played with the idea of an elven oracle of nature, perhaps multiclassed into paladin following Erastil. In fact, that image is now implanted in my mind. Another idea was to make a Cleric/Holy Vindicator, for it seems I'm becoming a bigger and bigger fan of the Divine. Also: Arcane Archer. Make it really, really shine. ![]()
![]() You know, I think I'll see what happens as I hop back to these boards, for the first time in a long while. Let's go, dice! . Strength 6d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 6, 1, 1) = 16 - 13
Race: 1d48 ⇒ 27 - Grippli. Hmm.... Class: 1d22 ⇒ 12 Alchemist. HD Rolls: TBD Gold: 5d100 + 3000 ⇒ (61, 75, 81, 47, 15) + 3000 = 3279 ![]()
![]() Right then. I'll ask you for advice then, on what could be cataclysmic enough involving alchemy to produce exile from their own towns? I have a few ideas, but feel free to toss them at me like a baseball (and break my nose, too!). Background:
The alchemist known as Gildin Bazeft had led a very productive life up until the point he had learnt of the art of mixing compounds and alchemic devices. His days were simple, having been a smith's apprentice for as long as he'd known. It was his father's suggestion that he, like the rest of his family, strike to make himself known amongst his kind, that he did something none else could do. What horrible advice. The results were clear in the next few months as he began to pour small bits of chemicals into the metal that they crafted. The results at first were fantastic - the sharpness of an axe and the impact of a hammer looked promising, mastercraft indeed! But on first test, the axe shattered into pieces, and the hammer cracked, chunks everywhere. His father had grown angry, and customers were taken aback. "How could such a promising family craft such scrap?" they began to say, and rumor spread fast. After about a year of purging the incidents, Gildin decided to, once again, experiment. It was here that he commited an act of terrifying precedence - he poured raw alchemical materials into the forge and the metals themselves, unknowing of how they might react. The forge steamed with black smoke, signifying the heat was intense and unreal. They say it was like a dragon's ire rising from that roof. On combining the steel with the forge, sparks began to rise and climb onto the blade itself, and seep into it - melting the steel into the forge. As sparks began to fly everywhere, the smithy caught on fire, and the youth knocked over his barrel of concoction near the forge on his way out to inform his family. They didn't need to be told. Not a minute later, the smithy itself detonated into a hellish inferno, causing the entire community to be concerned. Four dwarves were slain in the incident, and more injured - not to mention the family's pride was gone. No more were they spoken of in greatness, no more would they speak of the fine weapons - only the misguidance of the parents into their children. In fear of such an event happening again, the current thane ordered that either he be banished from their homes, only to come back on reparations, or the entire family to leave. In shame, the father was to make up for their family's pride, and sent his son away in hopes he may make something of himself one day. That maybe his arts were not as horrific as they pronounced themselves. Now the youth sticks to what he was taught - working in a human smithy with a quaint little shack, all to himself. He had some skill with creation, more than some of the older ones there, but he was no master of the forge. He still practiced with what compounds he had access to, and found that his limited knowledge was still enough to benefit someone - notably, the Hand of Jorin. With his racial connections and what little influnce he had on accessing materials, he could get away with supplies others could not - and thus give way to sabotage. He held the current thane in contempt for shaming his name further - he felt it had been rubbed in the mud enough, and after living years with these humans, that the treatment was wrong. Maybe it was a result of them actually assisting him? Who knows. All he knew, is he had to end this 'superiority' scheme they held - discrimination is a terrible thing to behold.
This is what I came up with between assignments in class. If you want to add/edit/remove anything from it, you have my permission - after all, it is your game! ![]()
![]() No problem at all - I figured it was a good shot in the dark, so here's my backup concept. I haven't sketched out the details, but I've got an idea for a dwarven alchemist. He was raised by a dwarven smith, but wanted to discover a new way of processing metal, to the point where he couldn't ever go back to the forge! (Too many brittle/unusable weapons and armor as a result!) Instead, he now makes his living as a saboteur of sorts, and has been branded an outcast, due to his experiments ruining a dwarf-lord's commissioned hammer. That's what I have so far. Thoughts? ![]()
![]() Though I noted the comment on playability of another's conjuration specialist, I'd like to request to play a summoner. The thought of playing an 'arcane druid' as it were, is too tempting to pass, and it brings a lot of roleplay and difficulties which I'm used to coping with. My first concept lies in an "illusion" of its own. A human summoner, whose natural, sorcerous abilities are less used than he'd like them to be.
Further details (And small backstory!):
Now, for this to work, I first need to ask for a small push to make this work. I'd like my eidolon to have a permanent burrow speed, per the rules in evolution points. It normally asks me to have to be 9th level to select, though I feel in a game like this, it would make more sense. Seeing as it's half-movement, a 10ft burrow speed isn't as amazing as it could be, at least for now, and I'd like to request that. Second, if you want, we can abolish the entire series of summon monster X spell-like abilities, and you can assign something else to me as part of it. The eidolon in and of itself is based off Dune, to be quite honest, and it's something I've been wanting to play for a while now. Story begins here --v
Curious on the suggestion, he did pursue this with the help of his father, which took him a sum of three years to gather all that they needed, thanks to the local resistance. After the ritual had been done, in some area of privacy, the creature created had an absurd shape - it was very much a giant worm, and the ability to keep itself hidden in the ground was a blessing - but the father noted a strange sigil over his son's head. He grabbed a green bandana off his waist, and wrapped it about his son's head as though it were headwear, and tied it off firmly. This was his one warning, for if any clearly saw the marking, he may be branded, marked, and quartered for his treachery. It has been some time since that day. The creature has grown, and the boy is newly become a man. He has since joined the resistance as a sort of messenger, though only in short distances - and the stealth perused in such a thing is very, very handy. This is his contribution, the assistance of communication in shadowed hands. But maybe, maybe he was destined for more than a life in this miserable place - for he yearns to leave and see the world for what it really is.
If this does not work for you or your campaign, I'm more than willing to submit something different - the world is too enthralling to pass up! Thank you for your consideration either way. ![]()
![]() Heymitch wrote:
Yeah. Can't imagine why they removed it. /sarcasm. @ OP: Honestly? Do it if you feel confident about your abilities to handle it. Sure, you won't be slinging wish or the other 9th-level spells, but you'll have more varied options with divine/arcane spontaneous when you reach the top. I once had an Ultimate Magus in a game where we got to Epic, and I never ran out of spells because of Sorcerer levels. So, do what you feel is best, and most entertaining to you! ![]()
![]() I would like to submit this concept. EDIT: I'm changing small details here and there while I can. Refining, as you will. Meet Imloth 'Thrasher' Carnavas:
He's been infused with strange powers since his birth, as an omen of something greater. It is rumored somewhere down in his birthline, a mother in his line mated with a dragon, but this is unconfirmed. Since then, the rumors have died down, but only the elders know the truth behind it. They aren't rumors. It was preordained that the next firstborn son would have powers unlike any others, so the tale goes, and he was indeed the next one - for three generations had no men, only women. He grew up in a harsh environment, initially from a region known as Land of the Linnorm Kings, a place where only the strong survive. He had prowess in arms, like many brave warriors did, but it is spoken of that he can spark up a monstrous frenzy, and undo his enemies in quick fashion - and even fling arcane energy from his hands! It was something the others took jealousy of, but could do nothing about - for they feared his berzerk tendencies may end up causing too much damage to the rest of the village. In time, he grew as all men did, and one day he woke up with a strange sensation in his heart - that there was something different in how he was regarded. It didn't take him long after to realize he had become one of the strongest in his clan. In this discovery, he found a new goal: to reach the pinnacle of strength in the entire region, or perhaps the whole continent! With this in mind, he gathered what he could to his cause, packed up all of his belongings and set out towards the south, seeking only to better himself - and where else than to start with protecting a caravan destined for a trade port? Where else could he start working towards his goals? However, these goals were prevented from being completed when the caravan was waylaid by a band of natives, where they massacred everyone but the merchant himself, who stood behind Imloth. The man was a force to be reckoned with, and one native walked forth, speaking of his strength, of his courage to defy the odds. It is here he was offered a place amongst the Shoanti, and accepted. His stay, though, was not as long as he would have liked. Circumstances involving the death of a partner on a routine hunt forced the shaman elder to usher him away - but it was cleverly disguised as a move to 'pursue greater accomplishments'. He was shown the path to the town of Riddleport, and with reluctance to leave his second home, he approached it on another caravan who needed assistance on the road. Maybe here, he'll find some place to belong to - or perish trying. ( As a note, I can always expand on this if you feel you wish more from it - that said, I am not averse to changing any detail! )
Hope to be invited in, and looking forward to the results! ![]()
![]() Right then, I'll name-change soon as I figure some other things out. I'm definitely focusing on being a Consular-oriented character, to say the least. It's what I used in inspired games, and it's what I'm comfortable with him being. That said, he's almost done, and his name will be changed to Janus Marr. Sheet is uploading soon, be done in maybe thirty minutes. Rolling stuffs, don't mind me.: 3d4 ⇒ (4, 2, 1) = 7 x 100 = 700 credits. Finishing equipment. ![]()
![]() Alright, here's what I put together. Background:
Before the massive wave of darkness known as Order 66, the youth known as Jace Neraal was found to be gifted in the ways of the Force by a Jedi knight known as Alexei Darrakor. In a rush to see the aging boy to a destiny he himself could not fully see, he was brought into the Jedi Order to be educated, for he was gifted in the Force in subtle ways - he did not seem to ever exert brute force with his talents, and it was difficult to see how gifted he was. It wasn't until he took his final tests did one see how he seemed to coax the Force into the softest movements, and demonstrate his skill. He became a Padawan only a few years before the devastation happened. It was at their station on Mon Calamari when Order 66 was given - his mentor Darrakor had ushered him away at the first sign of the betrayal, and hid him well with instructions and a separate goal: to get out alive. Jace never saw Darrakor again. Having ran from the newly formed Empire for years, he hid on planets that trailed from there out, and it was a constant struggle to keep himself hidden amongst the people. For all that time he continued to only use what he had to for survival, which led to a downfall of his powers before that day. However, his luck ran out when he had been discovered by the Inquisitors. Quickly, he was apprehended, and had a vision, that he was aboard a strange vessel, seemingly without hope... and yet, he could not wake up. It was strange, but perhaps, he may wake up, soon... Now, I have most of the books from a friend of mine, but I've never gotten the chance to play (and I'm a closet SW fan, so I may get some details wrong). I understand some concepts, and I think I understand most of the little changes from base d20 - so I'll leave it at that, and let you review the write-up. ![]()

I'll have something up by midnight EST. Rennick: That would be great! I just need to re-read him, and re-read his background to refresh myself, and I'll see about hopping back in. I'll probably drop my e-mail in the OOC thread so we can go about this little solo-sprint! ![]()
![]() Hey, Rennick. For you only, sir!:
Apologies for our last meeting, but since then I've gone through a mess of RL events - and a car accident that scared everyone I knew. I forgot a lot of my characters, or at the least their goals, and notified who I could recall. I actually had to do some research to remember how we met, which makes me slightly sad. I can only promise you my best foot from here out. I'd like to put my foot forward to join your game in full faith of staying, and propose this. my draft is very rough right now, so without further ado: Edmund Ventris, Rogue Jedi. He pleads no part in any organization, but ultimately falls into the "Prisoner of War" background, per your suggestion. I haven't decided the path yet, but it sure won't be any combat-junkie, I can tell you that much! He'll probably focus a little on combat and more on being social. I can craft a fuller background when I get home, as I post this from a mobile CPU. I really enjoyed your DMing style in the past, and look forward to (hopefully!) gaming with you again. ![]()
![]() Gotcha, gotcha. I suppose I'm going to be insisted on taking cure spells - though we do have a lot of small healing. I was thinking of going inflict, and maybe grabbing a weapon to channel it through - but I think me grabbing cure can be better for big emergencies. EDIT: And I'll make sure to go start that one when I can, PWO - my friend has it all, so I'm sure he'll be more than happy to let me borrow it. ![]()
![]() I'm not, sadly, but I've been told to start looking into it, PWO. So, I may just have to now! These concepts are really good, and some are already more fleshed out - makes me want to really write everything out - and I'm seeing this game will be very, very entertaining. Also, hi, Sunset. Been a while! ![]()
![]() Glad I caught this one early. I'd love to play a lot of things, but I feel this concept is more than enough to me: - Torthen Azduum, Dwarven Oracle of Stone, curse of Wasting - this is visualized by sections of his actual body looking like it's solid rock. He has decided his curse has grown far too powerful, and seeks to find an end to it - and from there, met the Professor, only to find nothing. After hearing of his death, he travels to Ustalov - and who knows what happens from there? I can elaborate further if you wish - but other than that, that's my wondrous concept. Hope to get in! ![]()
![]() 'Ello, 'ello, everyone. Hope to see we can all play together, should my application follow through! I'm putting forth concepts before I begin fleshing out characters - generally when I forge a background, I like working with the DM to ensure they fit within their image of Golarion. This usually means I make the concept, then look for what fits and put it in place. As such, this is what I have so far (and you'll notice I have a fondness for dwarves): - Orim Azarr, Dwarven Druid, of which reveres the Earth domain. He seeks to turn the Stolen Lands into something to make his clan proud, after a history of 'not following the true faith.' This only inspires him further to use his natural power (no pun intended) to better the lands, and create perhaps an entire fortress made of the earth! - Torthen Azduum, Dwarven Oracle of Stone, curse of Wasting - this is visualized by his actual body looking like it's solid rock. He has decided to leave his cozy comforts to endure the wilds, and find an end to this curse through his deity - or perhaps some other power? - Ordin Barhak, Dwarven Fighter (. He's very simple - a mercenary for hire, after realizing his true prowess within his clanhalls was to get him nothing but 'admiration' and no true wealth, he decided that it would be far more profitable to take up adventuring. I hope we can all start playing together soon, soon enough! I'll be sending you my e-mail if I should be accepted, Rising, so we can talk a bit about what I have in mind! ![]()
Male Drow Wizard 5, Sorceror 2, Ultimate Magus 10, Archmage(Wizard) 5
![]() @ Min - I'll do what I can. Unfortunately, my ideas for Syl are lost to me now, as I tried to undo my saying 'I'm dropping due to my coma,' since I really, really want to stay in this game. I can't remember what ideas I had for her, only an idea for a different character I developed recently. I don't know if he'd be appropriate in this game, though - so I'm going to go explore to try and fit this new person in. My apologies to you all for making you worry. I'll be sure to swing by and post my two cents, most likely from my scrying orb... DRA, would you mind sending me an e-mail? Thanks. DM only, please. Thank you.: pawood88@hotmail.com ![]()
Male Drow Wizard 5, Sorceror 2, Ultimate Magus 10, Archmage(Wizard) 5
![]() I'm simply going to have to drop - there's no alternative. I'm too lost in what's going on right now to give you what new blood may or may not do for you. As for the offender? I'm getting a brand new car. 'Nuff said. I'll hope to see you all in another game someday soon. Until then! ![]()
![]() I did chime in before he mentioned some things. Also - you're confusing my concept with Mark Thomas'? Unless I'm missing something. Joseph Wilson: Human Oracle of the Flame
Rizzym J.: Boreal Sorceror (if I'm considered, otherwise don't fret.) ![]()
![]() I'd like to toss my hat in with a Boreal Sorceror, from the APG. The concept is that he was a youthful babe just after the titan's war, and his mother had accidentally drank of some of the divine blood that spilled - that spilled into him upon birth. EDIT: (Oh, and... human.) I can make a more detailed background soon, but that's the concept. ![]()
![]() Alright, now that I'm relaxed and able to sit down (since class starts in like 20 minutes) I need to make some edits before I go further. Change Alignment to 'Lawful Neutral.'
The very, very basics of his background at this stage is being from Cheliax, but there's more to it than that... and as for the comedy routine? Hah! I see it now... "He's only half-dead! I'll be back Thursday to pick up the corpse." "But I can't wait 'til Thursday, I've got a meetin' with the wife's folks!" "Tell you what." *THUMP* "There. See you next week!" ![]()
![]() Alright. Let's see here.. Name: Magnus Tolkar
I'll make a face for him and post a background tonight - I have to prep for college now, Barcas, but expect it on time. ![]()
![]() I need to apologize to you - I made my decisions on my way out the door to college for my midterm. I'll come up with something more solid by tomorrow evening, and post the entire thing (and I mean the ENTIRE thing) by then. Speaking of which, I need to get some sleep! Evening! (Basically, I need to redo my concept, and resubmit it. Probably Elven Magus - LG.) ![]()
![]() I'd also love to get in on this, since I've yet to successfully play Kingmaker on these boards, and would really like to give this a shot. I'll be aiming to play a magus if you permit the playtest - otherwise, I will be doing a Charisma-based Eldritch-Knight as my aim. (EDIT - I'd actually like to play a dwarven cleric, focused on combat to be more martial [I promised myself no more divine, but I cannae help it!]) As for most recent PbP, I'd argue either Shadow Ronin's Shadows of Aris, or Downrightamazed's Legacy of [Tiramisu], but you knew that already, seeing as we're both in it. EDIT: Initial post was mainly for a dot - background is light, but follows as such - and changing concept. -------------------------------------
Background (Short): Strom Runehammer had been a spot on his family's name for a very, very long time. When they had him and his brother scolded at first for their amazing cooking achievements, instead of combat skill, they laughed. "Look a'that! They choose to wield a frying pan against the creatures outside our home! Mayhaps they'd be able to offer them a quick meal?" They didn't laugh long. Strom and Baiden Runehammer had it in their blood to cook, and serve the people, but they had another, higher calling - defending their kind and people, and seeing the land. So it had been they took a small wagon and a secondary cart behind, and began to sell their products, from a cart called 'Gud Eets'. (Dwarven didn't translate properly, you know how it is). They'd been doing this for years, when Strom received a message from his holy deity, Torag. "YOU MUST GO FORTH INTO THE WILDERNESS, STROM. YOU MUST SEEK OUT YOUR DESTINY, SO THAT YOU BOTH MAY SURVIVE - FOR IF NOT, YOU AND YOUR BROTHER MAY LOSE YOUR PRIDE FOR EVER." Regardless, to him his pride was paramount - and he bid his brother the best in wishes, and told him of his dream. It was here he set out for Restov, and found a notice about some kind of charter... ![]()
![]() Alright, after reading through the entire length of this thread, I'd like to post my own dragonrider build - few GMs are allowing of the class, so it's a great place to put interest in playing one. It's a really great concept in my mind, and here's all the little information, spoilered for easy reading. Basic Concept:
The character is an elven dragonrider, having been born into a line of such people in an isolated area. It's here they have lived for a very, very long time (subject to where you place it, I like the island to the far northwest). Here's the kicker - the dragon was born near the same day as the character, as they tend to plan everything with unity and keep birthdays identical for better bonding. Thus, the dragon's age will be near/match mine, etc., as fluff (I would like to get a chromatic, but the alignment system prevents me from having my awesome blue dragon [ EDIT: found the dragon fluff, never you mind ] ). But, that's the jist. (In complete honesty, I'd love a Cavalier with the dragon mount, or maybe just a drake. Anyways, I'd also like to drop the spellcasting [Quick edit in-post: I believe since the Mount ability is akin to a druid's animal companion, by the book, I could multiclass and suffer a loss in growth. Thoughts?] ) And below... About the Character:
The elven rider is tall and thin, preferring flexibility and momentum to sheer, brute strength. Her hair sifts into the wind effortlessly, spreading deep black strands everywhere when such things occur. Her body is supple yet graceful in all ways, for even her mere walking seems to be some form of art. Bold eyes of emeralds stare out, as if judging you, and then she gives a light smile to take away any fear. The bronze dragon is majestic in appearance, for glossy, mottled blue scales glisten in the sunlight - no cruel, barbed horns or tails in this creature. Instead, it appears far more regal than one of its kind, and seems accustomed to hardships that it and its ally have been through in all the years they have shared. It seems overly friendly, if not loyal, to its trusted brother. They are both about a century and a third in age, showing their experience through scars, or trophies - for every dragon, no matter who, must have a hoard, ne? This will be reflected in my starting gold.
Background (Basic):
This is a temporary, and summarized, background for the character. It was a long time ago that the House of (------------) founded their first darastrix schakriri, or "dragon nobles" as they were called, and began a tradition that would span many lifetimes to its founding. With the cooperation of a few other selected houses, the small island nation of (------) was founded on this tradition. The noble daughter of House (--------), [name unfounded yet] was born, followed three months later by a dragon wyrmling, named (-----------) [also, unfounded]. They were raised as partners, and blood-bound at an early age as brother and sister. They grew up in a slightly pampered environment, having been born into nobility, and are taught manners and other such wondrous things that elves are good at, as comes with the territory. She is schooled on basic combat so as to defend herself, and is given permission to learn in the academy on the island-nation, so she may delve as deep into a profession as she wishes. They have been on that island and suffered much in the forms of dark dragons attempting to form military forces to undo the work done by this community, and are therefore veterans in such manners of aerial combat - she is a paragon of sorts in the steady tide that she continues to fend off every few years. One year, her parents decide that she has come of age, and should seek out whatever she wishes of her life in the outside world, and gives her their best wishes on departure - which, unfortunately, may result in her never returning. (Yeah, it's quick and simple - but I always expand my backgrounds, and I can send you a sample if you want).
Also, since I trust in my character, I will begin her page soon - but not before I roll up what she has to work with. May the dice gods favor me this morning. Dice Rolls (Epic): 1d3 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16 1d3 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17 1d3 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 EDIT:Cleaned up the order, and rolling the seventh. Adding HP rolls.
10 + 5d10 ⇒ 10 + (3, 6, 2, 6, 9) = 36
![]()
![]()
![]() Well, if I just walk up to you and say, "I'm a templar of this and such order, blah blah blah," based on the appearance I'm going to use I look the part, do you really think I'm going to lie out the gate? That's the heart of the question - but your answer does make sense. I'm thinking I'll go with #3 - it feels like an ultimately more satisfying roleplay. An inquisitor fits the role, too, since it has the skills relevant to make the concept spark to life (Bluff, Disguise, etc...), and divine 'power'. Backstory to come soon - also, I haven't seen your e-mail so I can contact and talk to you directly. Mind swappin'? Also - HP rolls, just to get them out of the way. HP Dice!: 1d8 + 1d8 + 1d8 + 1d8 + 1d8 + 1d8 ⇒ (2) + (1) + (4) + (7) + (7) + (8) = 29 Die 2 Reroll 1d8 ⇒ 7 ![]()
![]() Alright, I have a few concepts, and I want to know which fits better in your world, to you. I can make a backstory for any, but I need to know before I go forth and dedicate time to it, as with college and X-mas my time's not as open as it could be. It'll be a good chance to play with some technology, though. So, without further ado... 1) A human summoner - ex-Imperium, his eidolon was 'crafted' by him, infused with magic and is used as a suit of mobile armor, ala MagiTek. 2)A human rogue - machinist, pirate, he salvages technology and creates new devices out of whatever he can find. 3)A divine knight ( unsure of class yet) who serves the Church of Caelum, but has a second, hidden agenda that may be darker than one can imagine. All of these are doable, I hope - I'm feeling 3 pretty hard, though, the more I think of it. EDIT: I need to know something for #3, or its playability goes down a notch - do you only ask for Bluff checks if they suspect I'm lying, or if I'm lying in general? Just curious. ![]()
![]() Sorry - used to thinking 'horse' and so forth, usually things on four legs are pretty tough. That's all. But, I suppose that's what I get for not paying enough attention. What of the other ideas? I'm thinking we could add a couple 'freebie' evolutions, since most of the abilities that come to mind are already in there.
