![]() I'm ok with the plan of Devlin trying to nuke the dragon from a distance. The way I see it, it goes one of three ways: (1) he rolls really well and kills it. We probably have to immediately deal with the chimeras that come for us, unless they have other leadership. (2) he hurts it badly, it retreats either behind the walls of the fort or to somewhere else and heals up. We've lost the element of surprise, but nothing more. We probably have to play hide-and-seek with the chimeras, but they probably don't kamikaze into us. (3) he only does mid-range or low damage to it. Then we're probably going to face off with the dragon and chimeras all at once. In any event, I think we'd better we ready to deal with a group of angry bear-chimeras. ![]()

![]() This is joshb's submission. Obidiah is a dwarf Deep Marshall Magus with a flying hammer. Background:
Obidiah is from Highhelm in the Five Kings Mountains. In his youth he traveled across the Inner Sea and into the dark places under the earth in search of adventures.
Years ago, long before the birth of their daughter Obidiah studied magic and crafting at the home of the Sarwals. While he had much to learn of spells from them, they needed his talent with a hammer in the forge when building items of power. After being away from Highhelm for decades, Obidiah felt the call to return to his ancestral home. After a period of acclimation and some suspicion after his long absence he was welcomed back. His skill with spell and hammer has earned him the high rank of Forgemaster in the Temple-Forge of Torag, and his martial skills have earned him the rank of sub-commander of the garrison of the Deeplock fortress that protects Highhelm from dangers emerging from the depths. Appearance: Obidiah is around four feet tall and weighs about one-hundred and sevety-five pounds. He has dark brown hair and a long beard bound up in shining gold rings. When traveling or adventuring he generally wears a suit of enchanted full plate armor that he crafted himself. On his left arm he wears a shining, mithral buckler inlaid with the symbol of Torag and in his right hand he carries an enchanted warhammer. A dark green cloak hangs down his back and his belt and boots are made from matching black leather. ![]()

![]() the campaign as designed was destined for this. yes, 4 ranged martial characters at 17th level can generate 400-600 points of damage. But any magical challenge they confront will turn off the party. One well designed character has the best dpr and controls 90% of the games spellcasting. Everyone else wants to feel relevant, so the rogue and melee fighter traded in their characters for ranged dpr characters because there weren't any challenges that matched up with their characters strengths. My cavalier has no way to keep up with the fighter and paladin/inquisitor ranged dpr when he runs out of challenges so I shifted to provide a fairly minor AC buff to have some reason to keep playing. We proved in one combat that glorious challenge / chain challenge doesn't actually work for a cavalier at because enemies won't stand next to each other and if they do, another party member will kill-steal a challenge target and end the chain. ![]()

![]() hey, the goat has never actually influenced combat once since I started using the bodyguard ability. He's never improved anyone's AC. You've used foreknowledge of my announced intended reaction to attacks on allies to guide the bad guys in to not attacking anyone adjacent to him. That would make the monster that appeared to suddenly want to sunder his armor that improves his bodyguard ability equally ridiculous, given that he's never actually used it. We're level 17. Wizards cast Wish at this level. Having a cavalier buff adjacent allies against 6 individual attacks by 5 AC is just a perplexing thing to decide is overpowered. ![]()
