In fact, a few of them I would put on my very Worst Scenarios List. I think it is probably the fact that the authors have to concentrate upon the encounters (and over such a spread of levels) and not story.

THE LOTTERY To Submit Yourself in my Lottery, please fill out my form: 1. Player Name: Great Green God 2. Are you new to PBP, Organized Play, or both? Depends. For a head of lettuce, I am old to the game. For a mountain, I have not even begun to roll dice. For a man, I am just right. 3. What excites you most about playing in this game? The French pastry. 4. Tell me a little about yourself! What other games have you played? What are your hobbies? (My favorite subject) I've been a gamer since I picked up the game based on my favorite series of books when I was 11-ish--Middle-Earth Role Playing. That was over 30 years ago. Since then I have played a number of systems (in roughly my order of discovery): MERP, D&D (colored boxes), Rolemaster, AD&D, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Robotech, Ghostbusters, Teenagers from Outerspace, Doctor Who (FASA), DC Heroes, Star Wars d6, Rifts, Shadowrun (2 ed), Vampire the Masquerade, Werewolf the Apocalypse, Mage the Ascension, Changeling the Dreaming, Wraith the Oblivion (many times these last five concurrently), Call of Cthulhu, GURPS, 7th Sea, Witchcraft, D&D 3.x, Pathfinder, Star Wars SAGA, and a quite a few others I'm probably forgetting. When Dungeon and Dragon Magazines were in print I and some fellow Pazioians at the time collected together in a bushel to get a three-part mini-adventure path published in its pages. As the bushel grew we got more stuff in print. Then I took a seven-year hiatus and only returned to the messageboards a couple years ago. Oh and I'm a Pisces. 5. Are you able to post 2 times a day? 90% of the time. 6. Are you submitting individually or as a pair? If as a pair, who are you paired with? Does this mean I play two characters? 7. I like to keep a game moving. Do you give permission for the party to 'bot' your character as needed in combat or another situation? Sure. Dwaynebot the Barbarian gives all of his equipment and gold to Ray the Obtuse (for safe keeping of course). This is the reason I only ever play monks. ;) 8. Do you promise to tell me about upcoming vacations, busy times at work, conventions or other absences so we can bot you? Yes, but I lie an awful lot.

"I was Confirmed several hours ago, upon returning to the Lodge successfully. I was one of the two Pathfinders to do so, of the six who left with us. Two, Gregor the Wholesome and Janira Gavix, our mentor, fell to a minotaur. A nagaji, Ickeckess, was brought down by skeletons. Finally, Ajaline the elf was brutally killed and subsequently dissolved by a gelatinous cube. While the Society still reels from the fate of Brother Grimdoc, I believe we must acknowledge the sacrifices of lower agents as well. Of the four slain that day, only Janira, a senior agent, will likely have the resources and favors to return, at which point she will continue to ferry agents from Confirmation to glory. A feat which I attend to achieve, in the name of my fallen friends!" His voice grows stronger as he continues, ending in a triumphant roar audible throughout the tavern. He then proposes numerous toasts to the deceased. "THAT'S GREAT!! Uh, I mean, that's so sad. My heart goes out to the yadda, yadda, well, you know what I mean." The mysterious half-orc takes a swig of grog--someone else's grog.

So I typed this big long thing last night and the website ate it... again. Basically it said: Yes, I played before for Gameday 4. No, we did not complete all objectives. In fact Z (Zed to his friends from the north) was the sole surviving escapee. So this time it's personal. I suggested spending what money you have on support material since it is a long mission and we don't have particularly high ACs. Z got to use orcish ferocity, is all I'm saying. As I have only 15 gp, poison use and no poisons to make use of my class ability I suggested that after the casters among us load up on healing, mass buffs and duplicates of anything that they think they would like to use a lot of on a long hard stealth mission that they might spread the love around a little. It's really not all that necessary for Z (who was pretty effective without anything last time around). That group might have done better had the richest character not glommed all the wealth on himself and then left play early. It made me cry. Especially since it took like twelve years to decide what do with the wealth. Okay that was hyperbole. Really it was more like three-and-a-half years. Anyhow, Z spends 3gp of his total 15gp on a bit of piano wire (a garrote). Hopefully this post sticks or even makes it through with a speed rivaling 1991's AOL.

Z awoke early with at start. He was normally a light sleeper at the best of times but thoughts of the mission had kept cropping up in his dreams like ache of a bad tooth. It was like déjà vu all over again every night. Stupid briefings, his mentor's missive, his own worries about the dependability of the rest of his crew and their grasp of objectives, security, stealth and plain old reality. In his dreams it had all gone to s$%%--everytime. There was no plan and everyone just blundered about into ambush after ambush, until they ran in the Mr. Master of Spells himself and got terminally spanked. Even in his dreams was smart enough to vacate the catastrophe, but still it smarted. And what the Hells had he been wearing? Perhaps in the dream he was trying to be ironic, not that anyone but him would have gotten the joke. Most folks just assumed he was no more than simple pretty face. Ah irony. Z smiled. He sipped his black coffee with his huge hands, thumb-sized pinky extended in mock civility. A couple of days ago when he arranged for the safe house to be vacant for the rest of the crew's arrival he had cleaned the place up and now here was the boss spitting on the fine berber he had so recently replaced. Some people. He hoped that his suggestion a few days ago to collect enough gold to get some healing mojo for the mission had not slipped people's minds. His own funds were minimal at the moment. 15 gp

In his mind it would be easier alone anyway less people to trip over. He'd find a nice quiet corner. stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24 Heal up. potion of cure moderate wounds: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (2, 7) + 3 = 12 Maybe try and find Marnarius perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12 Maybe not. It's better alone anyways but he could have used the distraction. He'd be back with a new face. The rifleman? Nah, the guy with the bow. He had a helmet Dice roll if the GM doesn't roll it: time to make the disguise: 1d3 ⇒ 2 x10 = 20 minutes
disguise (kit, human male): 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 2 - 2 = 15 Rush job. Hopefully the helmet helps. Just have to get with in 30 feet. That's the kill zone.... One way or another. He keeps it simple. The dice hate him today. "Sir? Are you in there?" He just has to tell him the truth and get within the kill zone. He has the wire and when he is sure.... perception (Zey's the real deal): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15 But the dice hate him and this is the best time. He knows how to use a wire and up close he can be quite charming. Swift action: martial versatility: exotic weapon proficiency (garrote) He's fast. Z wears sandals of quick reaction giving him a move and a standard action during the surprise round. [dice=grapple]1d20+11[/dice] And then, you just hold on. grapple checks and damage:
Z uses the garrote for its anti-caster effects and the just proceeds to inflict damage until his target is dead (and then a bit more to make sure).grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19 unarmed damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 unarmed damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15 unarmed damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19 unarmed damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29 unarmed damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 unarmed damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13 unarmed damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 unarmed damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15 unarmed damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 unarmed damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29 unarmed damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20 unarmed damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 It won't be fast or pretty however it goes. Hopefully the dice hate everyone today. Then all he has to do is find a way to finish his mission. Maybe Rataji's back to his senses. Maybe there's someone else alive he could use. Maybe that half-orc sorceress he let live whose tongue is still attached could be persuaded to help once he's awoken her. Z never throws away a possible resource. ;)
