![]() Like Neil, one of my first thoughts was, "why doesn't this act like a black tentacles spell since it's acting like a black tentacles spell?" Grabbing someone is what Pathfinder's grapple action was made to do, while an attack roll is used just to hit stuff. And is it just odd to me, or why does it always do 3 points of damage to folks making a Strength check to escape? Wouldn't doing the 1d4 damage (or even the maximum of 4) make more sense? Also, what's the Escape Artist DC to get out of the vines? Does that do damage too? ![]()
![]() Mark Moreland wrote: So that's where Obi-Wan went! +1. I mean, you can't help but think it! And I do like that while it's powerful, if you don't take proper precautions, it's dangerous too. In addition to only having 24 hours of air, you could get trapped, very thirsty, a bit hungry, and might even soil yourself. It's magic, but that doesn't mean it's comfortable! ![]()
![]() A fine item that calls to mind several cool story points from various dimension-hopping and time traveling tales. A bit of clarification on what happens if both selves are caught in one area effect (perhaps time-and-a-half damage like a swarm?) would be nice, but I could otherwise stand behind this item without a problem. No, wait. Problem. Use commas in your numbers! But, several people seem to have this problem, and it's easily fixed... ![]()
![]() What?! No Perform (percussion instruments) check DC? I do like Perform checks to go along with my magical musical instruments... I think the sped-up action thing is not referring to any action, just the bonus ki actions a monk can perform (+4 dodge bonus to AC for 1 round, increase speed by 20 feet for 1 round, high jump, empty body, and such). ![]()
![]() Quite nice, quite nice. I think if the shadow falcon was listed as having capabilities similar to the Improved Disarm and Improved Steal, that would remove the question of AoOs. Maybe add unseen servant to the requirements and base the birds stats off of that spell? Very flavorful item with a power I'd definitely use! ![]()
![]() This is difficult to wrap one's brain around, with all the tangled use of soul, form, spirit, corpse, person, and animal. And why mention right off that there are three acorns? As soon as you use one there aren't three anymore, and as Sean mentioned, is the cost for one or three? Snark:
And, what happens if I put an acorn from one pouch into another pouch that already has three acorns in it? The attempt at at a Golarion connection is a bit weak, too. Specific race, specific minor deity mentioned in the description, but not seen in the requirements... Can PCs make and use these or no? Boiling the description of this item down to the very basics would probably go a great deal of the way towards making it a winner. ![]()
![]() So, if the owner targets the pouch with a goodberry spell, rather than the usual 2d4 berries normally targeted by the spell, the pouch will bring into existance 1d6 goodberries. Right? That sounds right... Under that reading of it's powers, and with the cool plant-it-and-get-a-magic-tree effect, I can say this is a cool item. On a side note, why does it weigh so much? A belt pouch is only half a pound, and this lil' pouch only keeps 8 berries fresh, so I'm not seeing it as a huge container... ![]()
![]() Valeros: "Hey, Merisiel, cool new gloves! What are they?" Merisiel: "Fleh... Pleh... Flee... They're my new bloody gloves, dammit!" Other than the name, I think it would be fine to just change the last power to the effects of the bleed spell without too much worry about SIAC accusations. Definitely would see use at my table. ![]()
![]() Other than having to double check the effects of rest eternal from the APG to make sure that wasn't a better spell to use as a requirement for this, I'd say this item is quite likable. The price seems about right for characters who are the level to start facing the threat that the item is designed to protect from. Clear cut and easy to understand, with good grasp of world flavor. ![]()
![]() Nice Golarion hooks, so points for that. My one question is with the final power... does the wearer use the boots as a weapon that deals 1d6 fire damage, or do the boots flash with fire when the wearer attacks with whatever weapon he's using dealing the 1d6 fire in addition to the usual weapon damage? ![]()
![]() I thought this was a neat little item as I read about the holy symbol providing light. Slightly interesting that the shape of the light could be manipulated by adjusting the mirrors. And very not bad when I saw that a cleric could channel energy through it. I want one for my Kingmaker character right now. Doubling the penalty to undead's Will saves for users who have the Glory domain or adding 1- or 2d6 to the dice of the channeled energy might be a good fix for that, while daylight and one of the channeling feats should be a must for the requirements. With more word space, this could (should?) be expanded to offer different functions for negative energy channelers rather than making an entirely different item. ![]()
![]() I can easily see this item in use at my table, and possibly even for my own character were I ever to play a non-grappling monk again. Good item. To help out with the visuals, and maybe even with the amulet of mighty fists question, I think perhaps this should take up the hands slot, at least when used to add the flaming ability to the monk's attacks. ![]()
![]() Question: As the hit points "fade away at a rate of one hit point per minute" does the donor get them back or do they just leak out into the aether? And, I think this item would be a little difficult to use in combat with the transfer taking a full-round action both ways. I do like the item's description quite a bit, but disagree that it needs a weight. After all, ioun stones don't, and I see this as about that size. ![]()
![]() I like the irony of this item. The collar that denotes slavery freeing a witch from needing to associate with hags. But, like Sean, I don't think "prizing" is the right word for what good-aligned people feel towards unliving shrunken heads, regardless of their usefulness and creepy-cool conversation. ![]()
![]() Ah, ride the lightning, my old friend! It is good to see you again! But, why in a form drawing on the iron bands of binding? Can the user move around in this hamster wheel? Does the metal surrounding him offer a bonus to AC, grant concealment, or the like? And I really want to gripe about the dragony part of the name, as there isn't really anything dragony about the item. Behirs, stormclouds, thunderbirds... ![]()
![]() I'm not sold on the name... Illusionist's veil for something that turns illusions real? Cool effect, I admit, but I think the name could have used some work. Which does lead back to why this has an illusion aura and not a conjuration one. Also, as written a wearer can replace his illusionary wall with a summoned fiendish weasel. Is this the intent, or should the veil only let a wearer summon a creature matching his illusion? ![]()
![]() This reminds me of a magic item from the 1st Edition Unearthed Arcana, so it's got the nostalgia bit going for it, and if I actually liked one-shot items like potions and such, I'd give this the ol' two thumbs up. But, it gets only one thumb, since it shuts down the poor alchemist right off, rather than trying to find some way to work with him too. ![]()

I would have combined these two sentences into one rather than saying "commanded" twice in a row. Think it would flow a bit better. As for the area of effect, I like that you can choose, but most things I've seen that switch between radius and cone allow the cone to be longer, say 30 foot radius versus 60 foot cone. And, necromancy, baby. It's got to be necromancy! ![]()
![]() You had me at Erinyes! Then you lost me at "greasy." You sort of got me back with the attaching and the helping out with the flanking, but then... Neil Spicer wrote: I think the DC 13 Fortitue save is too low for the permanent blindness possibility, though. By the time you can afford a 12,000 gp item like this one, very few of your opponents are going to fear a DC 13 Fort save. This. ![]()
![]() While it's a neat item, I hear the word "corsage" and just can't think anything but flowers. Butterfly just doesn't spring to mind, no mater how I try. And that DC is awfully low (though right for a silence spell effect)... It would be a shame to own an item that could do all these cool things, but not on anyone but children and village simpletons. Also, for crushing, wouldn't sunder be a better action than grapple? ![]()
![]() I get into trouble like this all the time, but isn't whitish-brown really just tan? Trifles! Fairly solid item, and I do like the Golarion-specific tie to Desna. Perhaps listing a break DC with the hardness and hit points of the cocoon, and mentioning whether or not the wearer can move while encased (entagled? helpless?) would help a bit. ![]()
![]() I don't think this one quite grasped what it was reaching for. The idea is solid, but there are problems with the mechanics. Tracing with ash the shadow's outline seems a bit off to me; perhaps a command word and slamming the book closed on the shadow would work better? Then, is there any way for the person who's shadow is captured to notice? Does he no longer actually cast a shadow? Why the 5 HD limit? Does the shadow know everything that the original person knows? ![]()
![]() With the list of animals (which it seem many of us don't really care for), are these the only animals whose forms can be taken or are they just suggestions? I a character can wild shape into a weasel, does this item give him no skill benefit or does the GM have to come up with something on the fly for every animal a player can imagine? Also, if this is supposed to be a druid-themed item, why is it named for a race of Lawful Evil fiends? Wouldn't agathion)s have been a better flavor choice? ![]()
![]() Other than needing to look up what an ampoule was (noun; a sealed glass capsule containing a liquid, esp. a measured quantity ready for injecting), I wondered if the costs might outweigh the benefit of this item. In other words, as a wizard man, my question is would someone who plays sorcerers actually use this? ![]()

Not really a monster, but I'd really like to see something like the Anatomical Academy from TSR's old Complete Book of Necromancers or the Anti-Hippocratic Society from the German horror movie Anatomy. Monsterwise, I'd love to see some shades (now fetchlings?), shadow asps, and other Plane of Shadow denizens. And there's definitely not enough pumpkin-themed monsters (dare I mention Lance Henriksen), items, and effects in Pathfinder, so a few of those with the usual excellent art as well! ![]()
