Enraged by the pain inflicted on him, enhanced by psionics, Kurat takes another wild swing at the unarmored guard in front of him, hoping to finally put him down. While doing so, he makes a 5 foot step as to potentially flank the guard with one of his comrades should the guard remain standing. Falchion attack: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 12 + 2 = 16
I was not considering the fact that the guards could be potentially psionics. If they are, then my "standard blade" (Psi-bane adamantine falchion) should have hit for 2d4+2d6+10 of damage, not "just" 2d4+10 which I rolled. If that is the case, than my guard (S4) took additional 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8 for a total of 23 damage (of course, if approved by GM. If not that all this rant is just to wish you all folks a nice day :-)

Just a couple of clarifications - do you suggest that we attack through/from water? I do not understand if the mentioned boat could be accessed by land (without storming the house) or not? Kurat is both a bad swimmer (no ranks), and in heavy armor it may take him a few rounds to even reach that boat. Or would you like me to support you with a ranged attack? @GM Vrog - Can I use Profession/Soldier roll to gain some additional insight maybe?
"While we wait for Chak-Chak to finish, could one of us, with some arcane power maybe walk in there, in front of the building and try to detect any signs of magic traps or somethin'? Not sure how's that stuff work, but if I remember correctly you warlocks and shamans can detect presence, and sometimes even type of magic by simply concentrating on it. Is this doable in here in such a way not to blow our cover? Just to check if there's some trace of magic at the door, or the windows or guards?"
"So we climb up (or some of us fly) while invisible, right? Then once we are at the rooftop, we eliminate the guards as quickly and silently as possible and then proceed to infiltrate from above? Sounds good. But, what do you say if we can use the Chak Chak's raven for a more detailed surveillance? Maybe there's some special way to open the trapdoor, or some password, or some alarm switch and alike - we have a bit of time now, let us not risk it."
Similar to Drax, Kurat will continue to wander around, but since there are obviously guards which were paying attention, Kurat was not interested so much into scouting the warehouse as much as into finding and providing their team with a potential escape route. How much guards posing as civilians there are (an estimate at least)? 5-6 or more? Also, can we spot someone on the roof maybe, or one of the surrounding roofs?
As his "main" disguise Kurat will keep the personality of Ragrat, but not his looks. The encounter back at the inn told him that Ragrat and his past could still be recognized by a random passerby, so he changes his appearance significantly. He decides on a different hair color (black), a broader and somewhat better kempt beard (but not to fancy), full mustache and almost all teeth, unlike Ragrat. Finally seeing himself in the mirror, he decides that with additional small adjustment in terms of height and width of shoulders he will look like a completely different person. "Hi, I am Tarok" - he introduces himself to his companions, repeating the sentence over and over again, to familiarize himself both with his new name as well as his (and their) new look. For his throwaway disguise, Kurat decides on a face of the first enemy he ever killed in a gladiatorial fight - a short, stocky human with alcohol in his breath. He was barely known to anyone, but just in case Kurat decides to alter his appearance just slightly, and to choose another name. "And 'tis'ere is Petrien" - he flaunts with his bad accent. "Now, for the important part - why would a group of humies travel together in the wild - hunters, merchants, gold diggers, what? Which story is most believable? I could pass as hunter, or as caravan/merchant guard or guide maybe, what about the rest of you?"
Vrog Skyreaver wrote: Tt this, he pulls a small tube, like what you would get an ointment in, from his pack and tosses it to Kurat. you notice that instead of a cap, there is just a flap on one end. opening it, you see several small berries. "eat one of those, then toss that back." Quizzical look at his face, Kurat looks at the tube, smells the berries inside it and then proceeds to swallow one, as instructed. "Do I wanna know what these are for, or...?" - he asks the captain while tossing the tube back. Later on, turning to Urgos, Kurat adds: "An impressive plan and thinking indeed brother. I like it. Just few more things, if you allow - how do we take care of that pesky mind-magic? Also, if the warehouse is made of wood, than it's not really the same thing if we're infiltrating or assaulting. Assault would allow us to burn the place and smoke them out maybe? And finally - depending on the ground where it is made, maybe we can burrow from bellow? there are beasts and magics capable of such things, not sure if it is usable here?"
"It's not really a town Gidgey, just a small outpost, wuth not a strong guard at that" - Kurat starts with addressing goblin, before he is to report to the captain. With his head down, his eyes staring somewhere in the general direction of captain's boots, he replies dryly: "I've learned that humans are as crazy as ever, and we there's a reason Convocation should not mix with them." Finishing in a low voice, Kurat gathers enough courage to look the captain straight in the eyes, ready to accept his punishment. He was aware that he had no solid facts or leads to report back, and that would mean that he had failed in his mission.
Still furious and not understanding the scene that transpired within the inn, Kurat stands in the courtyard, trying to somehow went his anger. After he notices "the dwarves" he decides to try and follow them, having nothing better to do. However, Kurat was aware of the sentries stationed above, so for the moment he just notices the general direction in which the dwarves went, and goes towards a different direction. After some time, when he is certain that the outpost guards can not spot him anymore, the hobgoblin makes a detour, trying to return towards the general direction where the dwarves went and to find their tracks so he could follow them. Not sure if the above is doable at all, nor which rolls you might need, if any. Just in case here's a Survival (for tracking attempt) and Stealth (to remain hidden if he finds them). Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
"The witch started hurling insults first. I ain't apologizing to none!" - with his temper still raging, Kurat reacts with an outburst again. It takes him a second before he recognizes Drax (in disguise) and realizes that it was one of his comrades offering him a way out. Too late now... "Meh, this dump does not need my money it would seem. Here's for the service..." - Kurat spits through his clenched teeth, throwing a few pieces of silver on the table to cover his bill - "...wish ye a merry day, gentleman...and witches." Still unable to control his temper fully, he gets up slowly and starts preparing his equipment in order to leave.
I know that you were joking about the tavern brawl, but with INT of 7, Kurat is not the "sharpest knife in the drawer", so he tends to react before thinking things through. Hopefully, situation at hand will not deteriorate further, but you're free to ract in whatever way you feel is appropriate (after all, it's just a tavern wench who's probably been insulted lots of times before, right? ;-) Plus, a tavern brawl would provide a very good distraction for someone to take a peek into the wagons, right? *hint, hint
"Dirty hobo, eh? You'd have better spit in my drink already, since it's too late now. No tip for you, ugly witch!" - feeling insulted (although he should not), Kurat is quick to react in anger. After a second or two, he realizes that he's probably drawing a bit too much attention to himself, so he sits down and continues to sip on his drink, hoping that the confrontation will not escalate further.
"Bath?! Me don't need no stinkin' baths! These things will kill ya, fer sure they will. Just bring me some grub and tell me of news, if any, in the world, and I'll be fine." - Kurat raises his voice for an instance, concerned as what might happen should he need to remove the clothes/mask, as he tries to be calm and wriggle it's way out of this new predicament.
Entering slowly a bit after Urgosh, Kurat feigns a disinterested glance across the room, as if to survey the patrons. He takes a seat at one of the empty tables, ideally somewhere between/near Urgosh and one of the already present companies. "Barmen, gimme a shot...nah, make that a double of your hardest, or cheapest stuff" While waiting for the drinks to come, Kurat takes a stock of the situation, his gaze going slowly over all other patrons (including Urgosh), as well as the bar. He does not however gaze at anyone specifically, not wanting to draw any attention. Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 After being approached by the barmen or the serving wench, Kurat inquires: "You'd be interested in a trade 'ere perhaps? I got these two hares, could make a mighty fine stew of'em?"
Vrog Skyreaver wrote: So far, looking at people's character sheets, I notice that Kurat, Drax, and Gidgey have Common listed as one of their languages, but I don't see a way that they could (Kurat has 3 languages, a 7 int, and no ranks in linguistics; Drax has Common and Orc listed as his two languages, a 10 int, and no linguistics; and gidgey has common and goblin listed as his two languages, but he has a 12 int, so he could take common as an additional language if he wanted). This is completely my bad/mixup and I am sorry for this. The ARG states that hobgoblins begin speaking Common and Goblin, however my backstory states that in a way I was raised among humans, so I had a hard time in making it all work. Can I consider maybe Goblin to be Sylvan or not?
Common: Approaching the gate, Kurat slowly looks up towards the watchmen and responds in a bored, almost irritated voice, with a hard accent: "Me belly would welcome some broth finally, and I'm in need of some boose as well. I have a bit of money, and a few of other things to trade. That 'nough?"
He shows his catch, and waits for a few moments to receive the response before lazily proceeding to enter the small outpost.
Feeling exhausted like someone has been beating him, Kurat listens to the orders from the Captain, his mind too tired to wonder why they should do this. He simply nods and tries to remember memories both of his life as prize fighter/gladiator in Aeon, as well as his memories of Ragrat, the human which raised him (in a way) and made him into what he is today. He decides to go as a hunter, trying to sell some additional meat and/or furs, so despite his fatigue hobgoblin grabs his bow and goes hunting. Survival: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 - 2 = 14 I am hoping this is a good enough result for a rabbit/hare or two, or maybe a pheasant/wild duck/turkey. After cleaning his pray in a proper way, Kurat camouflages both his swords as well as his flail as best as he can within his haversack, showing to be armed only with a knife and a bow. Finally, he fiddles with his hat of disguise, trying to look like a younger version of Ragrat, along with the scruffy, unkempt beard, rotting yellowish teeth and a band with two feathers stuck in it. He uses his sleeves to appear to be wearing an old, very worn brown leather jacket over his armor, with some sturdy cloth grey pants to match. Disguise: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 2 = 20 Finally considering himself ready, he makes sure to show himself to others, as well as to make sure to memorize how they look, before heading towards the inn. Once there, he enters the inn, and takes a quick glance of the people around. Approaching one of the tables, he places his stuff on the floor, orders some cheap brandy and proceeds to inquire if he could trade some of his prey for drinks/meal.
DM: Even within such a terrifying dream, Kurat would fight. Understanding that he can not release his arms or his feet, he would wait for the last moment before trying to move his head aside and to bite the repulsive creature. If he could not bite it, he would at least try to spit at it, or curse it with all his might. Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 Additional +1 if against Fear Kurat wakes up from his sleep ready to fight, a vicious grin apppearing on his face almost immediately as he grasped his weapon. Come you bastards, I'm ready for you. I will tear your infidel heats from your chest and feed it to the vultures!
Gidgey wrote: "Hey guys like my new bandana?" Gidgey asked as he followed everyone out of the tent. After fitting his new Torc on his biceps, Kurat was barely able to notice anything around him, how fascinated and enthralled he was with his new sword. Finally, when Greith chases them all out of the tent, he gets out of his reverie and notices Gidgey. "Why yes little one, this looks real fine on you now. How did ya do that?" Kurat is not really aware of how Hat of Disguise (or a lots of other magical items) work
"So, this torc thingie, what is it used for? I see a word inscribed inside, I'm guessing that word is activating it? But what does it do then?" - Kurat draws first the biceps armband and shows it to Greel, before putting it over his left arm. Next, he draws a falchion made of dwarfsteel (Adamantine) shaped in such a way that it resembles wing of a large bird and asks Greel again: "And this, I'm guessing dwarven inscription - what does it say?"
Inquiry about the items: Kurat will have no issue in immediately asking Captain Greel about the properties of the Torc (what is a Torc, anyway?) and what would be the appropriate time to activate it? Likewise, he would take out the dwarfsteel falchion and hang it on his belt, just opposite of the existing, magical one.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 "That is enough for me Captain. You have my sword. And as the dwarf here correctly put it - if you feel that it should be reported, than you do it. If not, then it's probably the right way. For me, that is past. And talking of past and future I have two questions. One more for the past - you said you'd have done this mission differently. How? Teach us....sir. And future, that is simple, as Drax here said - what would you have us do next?"
Before Captain Greel's arrival "Well met Chak-Chak, you sure are one strange bird. Haven't seen your kind before, but nevermind. We're all interested what skills you bring with you, but Captain seems to be coming, we'll talk of that later...if we're alive" Looking inquisitively at the approaching Captain, Kurat nods a few times while Urgosh is speaking. Seeing that the dwarf has finished, he interjects: "Dwarf is right. What is the story with the human spy and the flag? Did Meera acquire the letter signed and stamped by Hardbrow's personal stamp earlier...or you had another team doing it? And finally - do we want to know about this Project Leviathan or not?"
Eeerm, I am not sure if I follow the development of the situation in here properly, but I'm not sure if we're on the right side here, whatever is "right"...I have to read some key posts again, but Urgosh, you're my man (dwarf, minotaur, whatever) - that's the right approach! Let him either kill us all now or give us a meaningful explanation. So far, from what he saw, Kurat would go straight to the Skyreaver and tell him everything, from start 'till end. But let us see what "our Captain" will respond and then we'll decide.
Glancing left and right and seeing that no one is willing to speak first, Kurat clears his throat and begins: "Well, sir...after receiving the mission from you we proceeded to gather information about the target in our own various ways, including but not limited to staking out the target throughout first night. After that, a plan was agreed on - I know the least of it, because my role was to provide distraction and a cover story for all of us. From what I have learned of others, we have been successful in our mission - I have provided a necessary diversion and a cover for our group..." - Although maybe a bit too much of a diversion...; with a light smirk on his face, hobgoblin continues - "...while the others did their part. I am certain that Urgosh or someone else may fill you in on the details on their actions. I was not aware of those so I could not jeopardize the mission execution." Grinning mischievously, he quickly adds: "Though, I would have to admit that I may have overdid it a bit with size of diversion. I...I was not aware that it might go that far..."
Bloody and swollen, but still not beaten, Kurat breaths out heavily. He shakes his head lightly, trying to clear the vision and understand is there one or three half-minotaurs in front that he was trying to hit. His legs were shaky, and his hands felt heavy, very heavy. However, despite all that, he felt some strange exhilaration somewhere at the bottom of his chest. He was, hell they obviously all were too tense, this waiting and not doing anything with so many martial types in one place. This was a good idea... And just as Kurat was about to take one more sluggish swing, Skyreaver decided to intervene. That is Skyreaver?! - were Kurat's last thoughts before the blackness took him over. Sudden appearance of a flying halfling which was calling lightnings distracted Kurat enough to let down his guard, and the minotaur in front of him used this opening to land a devastating punch, knocking hobgoblin into unconsciousness.
I was travelling for 1 day and you guys managed to put 40 posts!?!! My, my, this is amazing. Anyway, here's the roll GM requested. I beleve that (unfortunately) INT check would be appropriate here, and not a WIS check (my INT modifier is -2, while WIS is +2) so I'm gonna roll it as INT. IF GM feels it could be the other one, please note the appropriate modifier. Kurat enters the large pavilion tent as planned, and starts playing his assigned role. He looks around, trying to find the most "appropriate" group for causing trouble, but seeing so many martial types with no action stuck in one place, it really is not that hard. He decides that a group of orcs in the corner would be more than adequate. Orcs were very inebriated already, and they were known for their bad tempers. Well, this should be easy. Hope they don't go for knives...let's see, have enough time passed? INT check: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3 "Hey you, you ugly bastard! Yes you. Don't think I did not hear you talk smack of me. Dirty little freaks like you should know that if they talk smack, they'll be smacked right back!" Unarmed attack roll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 POW!
Kurat feels a bit disappointed that he is not needed for this mission, but understands that this will require a lot of secrecy and stealth, something he is not very used to. "OK. I'll be around, somewhere nearby, in case something goes very wrong. Just remember that invisible does not mean impossible to notice. He will still be able to hear or smell you. Take care."
