Jacen proceeds to cast Identify (twice) to see what can be discovered about the ring and the sword.

"Wow Fiz, that's a heck of a rock! Maybe you could find me a cool rock too? I would really appreciate it. Let's see what we can make of this ring."

Seth and I seem to really be on a similar schedule of issues; I like that ;)

"Bold, I dare say brash, and maybe just a little brave; announcing yourself a Knight of the Emerald Claw when you know that our expedition could have the attention of a Great House ... and yet there are Knights in the great city of Passage, aren't there? No need for Emerald Claws to be at odds with House Orien is there?"

Jacen smiles; to the assembled, it seems almost genuine.
With Jacen, it was often hard to tell.

"Apologies, that wasn't a question. It was a declaration. I am Jacen, of House Orien, and there is not only no reason for us to be at odds, it might do well for us to be mindful of the schema you seek. What can we keep ours eyes out for?"

I also am not seeing updates here, apologies.
I'm here now and will catch up.

"Very hard"

Jacen, while normal sized, also gets in, sitting near Failing.
"Let us be off then!"

EltonJ wrote:
"Yes, we have a deal," said the first bugbear. "It's our hobgoblin boss, Glebir."

"Ensure that Gleneborn or whoever it is understands that House Orien let you live today; we may not make the same choice twice. The next time you are anywhere near Falin, you will ask for his leave to speak to him."

The scion smiles; it isn't a good smile though.

"There's part of me that wants to explain things to you more clearly, just to make sure you understand. I think the little goblin has some parting gifts she'd like to share as well. Be on your way. Now."

EltonJ wrote:

Two big and burly bugbears approach.

"Oh wonderful," says Failin.

"Problem? Something we should know about?"

"There will be time enough for bombs I think, bombs that won't ruin my future. Tea could help, or coffee, or both."

"As would I. Not sure if we have chilis & whiskey for the road, but maybe we can fix that."

The young man looks at his cousin

"Failin, are you ready?"

Absolutely

EltonJ wrote:
Failin gets his wine. "This should be good," he says. "So, Jacen, what brings you to this neck of the woods?"

"The team here has a retrieval contract and we're gathering the last resources we need before we head out into The Mournland. Would love to have Ayla here for some serious muscle, and would love to have you at the helm of your fabulous vehicle to make the going a little smoother."

Jacen, clearly, is restraining himself. The nervous energy is his eyes suggest that he is fighting not to roll them; the odds on him winning the fight cannot be called and it seems to be good fortune that there's another interruption.

"Cousin Failin, what a pleasant surprise! It's been a very very long time, too long really. Wine is it? Please come sit with us."

Lia eberron wrote:

"I could do with a whiskey as well. Thank you."

She casually looks around, seeing if the sight of an elf sipping in their establishment has caused anyone to be wary or more attentive.

"Whiskey seems to be the order of the day, good thought if I'm about to represent the House ..."

Jacen turns to address the extraordinarily tall woman who just walked in

"Miss!? Would you have a moment? Please, join us, there's whiskey on the way."

"Fizizzle, please, come with us, let's get inside so that I can apologize for thinking you were a servant rather than an arsonist. I can be a little thick headed sometimes. My friends used to say that Dragonmakrs glow when their bearer had a good idea ... and that's why mine didn't glow very much. Let's go!"

"I wonder if that's Failin's Earth Chariot!? No wonder no one wanted him to stay in Sharn ..."

"Excuse me, you there, cleaning that cart, are you a servant working for Master Failin? I wondered if he might be inside, I haven't seen him in ages. You're doing a great job by the way, looks quite tidy."

Level and any other character creation details?

Right. The group is level 3.

Feats no elephant in the room/the room is square rules. Those rules, while intriguing from a bookkeeping aspect; do not reflect reality.
Wealth: level 3 wealth.
Character Class: All you really need is the Pathfinder 1st edition Core Rulebook. However you may pick any class (or archetype) for your character from the following books:
- Advanced Player's Guide.
- Advanced Class Guide
- Ultimate Magic
- Ultimate Intrigue
- Ultimate Wilderness.

Race: Since the group is in Darguun, you may create a goblin or hobgoblin character. A bugbear is permissible if you can create an ARG build that is 15 points or less.

The group is in Rhukaal Dral, in an outfitters shop run by House Orien.

Abilities: 25 point buy.

Sooooooooooooo totally loving this ... aaaaaaaaaand is it meant to indicate to the rest of the team that we should level up to 3rd level!? I would love that, if for no other reason than just to be comparable to Seth ;)

"Right! Failing Failin! I knew I knew that name! He's like the main cautionary tale of the whole family, our template of how NOT to act; this is not an altogether bad thing for us. He could probably use a good word put in for him ... and we could for sure use an elemental-powered cart in our travels. I should have thought of that. I wouldn't be hateful to go grab a drink if we're going to try to find him."

Lia eberron wrote:

With 3 now and 2 new, that should be a good group.

Timing is good too actually, given that the team is already at House Orien where travellers are likely to arrive/depart the area. Yay!

Hey everyone,

I'm thinking of recruiting two more players. Do you think that's a good idea?

It seems like Karsh'e and Lia are the only ones roleplaying.

Apologies: I had missed your reply to me (not surprising here at Paizo), and then there was no activity for 3 weeks or so. If this is active again, that's great, let's go see Jacen's relative's.

EDIT: also willing to add anyone who would like to be added to my discord; super happy to receive messages saying I should post in case I've missed something.

Will do. Doesn't mean I can't add two more players.

I knew I forogt to add something, sorry about that too.

VERY much in favor of both critz & seth, they're great.

Jacen clearly is lost in thought. So many names across such a huge family; and yet, he had a greater duty to know them than the rest of his family: he was dragonmarked, he was true Heir of Orien.

KNOW(Orien): 10 + 7 = 17
LORE(Orien): 10 + 7 = 17

Lia's poke snaps him out of it. "I will be honest, I feel like I remember those names from when I was working in Sharn. Maybe they found a way to make this region profitable again."

The goblin nods and says, "The one offering rides is named Failin, a cousin to Tucson d'Orien."

lmk if there is something I need to roll; in my head, Jacen knows the family VERY well and would know how he is realted to another Orien unless it was seriously distant.

EltonJ wrote:

"Well, that is helpful. Where can we find this scion?"
"He frequents the northern pubs," said Merryl. "He's a cousin of the scion that runs this place."

"Might I get their names? It would be helpful to know how closely we are related."

A joyful season and very happy new year to everyone :)

"As you can imagine, that is hard to say exactly. From here, we will set out for Lyrenton, which we will skirt due to the wasting plague that seems to linger there, and then on to the areas around Whitehearth. We will most likely center our activity on Whitehearth, but will venture furthur as needed."

"Well met young lady; Jacen d'Orien at your service. Many thanks for your professionalism and my compliments on representing House Orien. I will mention this when I return to Passage to visit my uncle."

Jacen makes the smallest of bows to the woman, but is clearly appreciative.

"Any maps would probably helpful - we know that a lot has changed through the course of the war, but a great deal may be familiar as well."

Let's do it

Karsh'e wrote:

Karsh'e trails along. He'll gladly contribute his small number of coins to the common purse.

All he has is 25 gold and a pile of debt. I guess he could sell his falchion.

I can't even rememeber the last time I opened this character in HeroLab, but we basically want some tents and some food and some water, right? Nothing all that expensive. I like the cart idea in principle, but Jacen doesn't want to imply that the warforged be pack animals simply because they are less susceptible to the Mournland/"

Lia eberron wrote:

Lia will purchase 4 potions and assuming she can use an arcane wand of healing, 3 of those.

You can never have enough healing...

Soon as Karsh'e has paid his debts and has some real money, he'll pick up a wand of cure light wounds. But that's not today. On the bright side of Beren's departure, Karsh'e owed him money too. Guess he won't be repaying that debt unless Beren comes back.

Karsh'es gear :
Combat Gear: candles (10), bread, loaf, rations, trail, per day (3),
Other Gear: falchion, leather armor, outfit, peasant's, pouch, belt, pot, iron (2), stilts (common), rope, silk (50 ft.) (2), musical instrument, flute, kite (common), blanket, winter, skillet, common, string (50 ft.), whetstone, backpack, common, flint and steel, jug, clay (2), thieves' tools, waterskin, filled (2), sealing wax, dagger, whip, +1 longsword, 25.09 gp

Karsh'e looks over his companions. "Some of you might want a tent and blanket. "

In principle that bread you brought, from Sharn, is NOT in the best shape at this point, but yeah, now is probably the time to get some standard adventuring stuff

"Let's get some things; I'm not opposed to either departure. Leave tonight and set up a camp somewhere that isn't blighted, or set out at dawn. Both of those are good I think. But let's go shopping. The only thing that we didn't mention is healing & curing; having some potions and scrolls with us for those purposes might not hurt."

sooooooooo just about 2 months since I suggested we find an inn. If all we need is canned goods and some water, then all we need is canned goods and some water. We've lost some firepower though ...

Take care, best of luck to you Beren!!

The waiter returns. "Well, is everything all right?"

"All is well, yes, thank you."

Turning to the group, Jacen says, "To the matter at hand, what else do we think we need to get through to the facility? I feel like our main concern is probably water and I am sorry to say that is not somethinng I can conjure. What else will ensure our progress?"

Happy Birthday!!!

"Safe travels to us all, and a bright future for our young friend Sean."

Jacen lifts his glass, the taste of wine clearly bringing an old memory with it

"There will be many reminder of the War in the days to come; let us also take pride in our peace."

Karsh'e wrote:
Karsh'e notes the d'Orien name. "Sounds pricey, but maybe we could get a family discount," he mumbles around the bite of burrito in his mouth.

"One hopes. I ordered extra glasses for us because I wanted to make a toast, to our sucesses thus far, which are more than I think we planned, and to our upcoming endevor. Gods be with us."

"Yes in fact; you could point us in the best direction to get some supplies for a trip ... into the Mournland."

"Chicken Tacos if you would, with some of the spicy salsa on the side. I think things have been bold enough for one day."

"You don't REALLY make chili out of goblins do you? For the bugbears I'm guessing? I really thought that was outlawed ..."

Jacen smiles
"But the rainbow vintage from Windshire would be most welcome. Bring 6 glasses please, and no, don't question that. I said 6 because I meant it."

Lia eberron wrote:
Lia will peruse the wine list with Beren. It has beena day.

If anyone deserves wine, it's us

"Let's go in ..."

"Let's head to the Tavern we saw on our way to Lyandor? We can probably get the best food and the best leads on supplies from Gallanda."

Lia eberron wrote:

Lia laughs at that last point.

"True. Good thinking. We purchased arcane healing. other than food, what will we need from here?"
Karsh'e wrote:
"I have always walked, and have walked far. But someone had mentioned mounts."

"First and foremost food, of course, always. We might consider water as well, and which of us may be able to conjure it. I said "may" be able not as a question of capability here, where all is well and all is normal and magic is magic. This is very much NOT that."

The Scion of Orien purses his lips slightly

"No, we must be prepared to be quite physical on this journey, as magic doesn't keep to its natural laws in the Mournland; magic itself was attacked when Cyre was struck down, and we need to think that way. I will dust off my fencing skills ..."

Jacen's brow furrows slightly also

"The question of mounts is tough, as I would not choose to force the ravages and mutations of that land on any creature. Would that we could find some old clockwork mounts at a blasted foundary. We can decide that together, knowing that the mounts may need to be put down when they become a liability."

"Let's look for an inn, maybe even one that would benefit from helping us provision. There is a great deal to think about."

Karsh'e wrote:
"North to the Mournlands. What do we need for the trip?"

"We probably need to sit down, have food, have drink that won't muddle our thinking, and make a plan for the last leg of this journey. We also probably need to discuss a "designated shopper" --- this marketplace is NOT Sharn."

"It seems like a very very long time since we found you adrift my young friend, I am glad we got you to this moment. Safe skies to you. Send word to me of your safe arrival? House Sivis will find me in Sharn, and I will hope to see you soon."

tbh, that is a LOT

Yayyyyyyyyyy!!!!!
