"Bold, I dare say brash, and maybe just a little brave; announcing yourself a Knight of the Emerald Claw when you know that our expedition could have the attention of a Great House ... and yet there are Knights in the great city of Passage, aren't there? No need for Emerald Claws to be at odds with House Orien is there?"

Jacen smiles; to the assembled, it seems almost genuine.
With Jacen, it was often hard to tell.

"Apologies, that wasn't a question. It was a declaration. I am Jacen, of House Orien, and there is not only no reason for us to be at odds, it might do well for us to be mindful of the schema you seek. What can we keep ours eyes out for?"

"A silver schema, with etchings and holes," says Sir Jachob.

"We should set the priority level for looking for this Schema." he says to his compatriots, playing up the rational side of being a warforged. "How much are you offering if we find this for you?"

diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

For the new players, we have also been tasked to find the segments of a schema, likely the same one.

Yes, it's the same schema.

"Five hundred gold pieces," Sir Jachob says.

Goblin

"Five hundred yellow shiny coins? That's a lot of those. Longshanks call them being worth much. Fiz wants that!" she couldn't hold her enthusiasm in

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Karsh'e glances over at Fiz. He wonders how disappointed she'll be when she realizes what her share would be. Also he doubts she could count to five hundred. He's not sure he can count to five hundred.

Warforged Aegis 1/Soulknife 2 | HP 41/41 | AC 22, T 11, F 21 | F 6, R 5, W 6 | Init +1, Perception +8

Escher agrees, "We should take you out on that offer." he says, having already internally counted to five hundred.

Ayla thinks it through some 500 gold pieces, tat's a lot, though ther-a, are 6 off us, and I's don't know how many pieces that works out ta each.

She also decide to keep quiet in case she says something that could make trouble, as her tongue has sparked fights before.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

"Then I'll leave you to it," says Jachob. "Incidentally, since a representative of House Orien is here, I'll be civil. Just try not to disturb our dig."

"Ciwil! I Iz FizFiz. Will help find shiny fings!" she holds out her hand as she has seen others do

Lia stays quiet and still in the background. Internally she's laughing.

"Thank you. We will watch for this schema. "

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

Okay, everyone make perception checks: DC 18. This is to simulate digging for the treasure.

Nevermind, I'll make them.

Karsh'e's perception check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Lia's perception check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Fiz's perception check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Alaya's perception check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Escher's perception check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Warforged Aegis 1/Soulknife 2 | HP 41/41 | AC 22, T 11, F 21 | F 6, R 5, W 6 | Init +1, Perception +8

Since you made the checks, do we get to determine what we dug up?

As Esher puts on this belt he found, he feels incredibly strong and tough and agile. Belt of physical perfection +6

In the spirit of Escher's post, Lia is shocked to uncover a fully charged Staff of Healing! :)

If we goin dat route,
Ayla finds, a set of +5 Mithral Breastplate that fits her that also has Energy Resistance, Improved for both fire and cold,
and a +3 Keen Flaming Burst Adamantine Fullblade

I'm old as hell. I thought of the Halloween Peanuts special.

Found it, while reading the evil Dixie Saga

It must have been inspired by the Peanuts Halloween Special.

I'm thinking of James Gunn's first superhero movie. "If you don't know the Specials, You don't rock!"

So, what do we actually find?

Goblin

FizFiz gets a large SHINY rock. And parades it infront of Karshe

Pieces of broken pottery, a very old magical ring, and a rusty old sword. Sorry, no belt, or staff, or mithril breastplate. Just a gold ring, a rusty old sword, and pieces of broken pottery. Oh and Fizfiz's shiny rock, they are in abundance here.

Goblin

Huzzah!!!!

After parading her shiny rock infront of Karshe, she happily places it in her money pouch

"Wow Fiz, that's a heck of a rock! Maybe you could find me a cool rock too? I would really appreciate it. Let's see what we can make of this ring."

Jacen proceeds to cast Identify (twice) to see what can be discovered about the ring and the sword.

Goblin

Fiz nods as she goes to dig for another Shiney rock

Identify results:
The ring is a ring of etherealness. It makes the wearer invisible and transports him to the ethereal plane. The ring is an artifact from the War of the Mark.

The rusty sword is a +1 magic sword that needs to be reforged to be useful.

Does it look like the Emerald Claw found anything on the Schema?

No. Not that you can see.

Elf (Aerenal) Cleric of the Undying Court 4 HP 20 AC 20 (T 13, FF 17) Fort +5 Refl +5 Will +8 init +3 BAB +3

"Interesting finds. That is a powerful ring. Shall we keep looking or keep an eye on our fellow diggers?"

Male Half-orc Bard 4 Init +6 Percept +5 (darkvision 60) SenseMotive +4 45 /45 HP; Fort +4 Reflex +6 Will +4 (+4 v Bardic, sonic, language) ; AC 14, touch 12, flat-footed 12

Karsh'e admires the ring, more for the sense of history and for its magical power. He also wonders how valuable Fizfiz's shiny rock is. Rocks, let alone shiny ones, were rare in the marshes. They seem quite commonplace elsewhere in Khorvaire. Is it the shiny that make it valuable? Or is it all in the goblin's eye?

"There are enough of us that we can do both, and watching them is a good idea. We would look stupid if they found the schema and took it away while we dug fruitlessly."

Any detail to the town? Where's the grandest (ruined) house, presumably that would be Cannith's?

Goblin

No take rock!

A vast plateau, bounded to the west by a narrow canyon, stretches before you. The quarry extends for at least a mile, and the nearby village spreads across the plateau—at least, what’s left of it. Anything made of wood has been burned to cinders, leaving a handful of stone facades, rock foundations, and chimneys behind. Though warm weather surrounds you, the village appears covered in a layer of ice that glitters in the light of the rising moons.

You also notice another source of light. In the southern part of the village, a fire glows in a large pit, which is surrounded by four large tents. Figures move around this makeshift campsite.

"More friends here. I wonder what they're searching for? I will go over and ask."

Karsh'e wanders over to the southern camp.

You see many bodies, but they have no souls. In fact they are zombies.

Elf (Aerenal) Cleric of the Undying Court 4 HP 20 AC 20 (T 13, FF 17) Fort +5 Refl +5 Will +8 init +3 BAB +3

"Zombie workers? Very interesting."
Lia studies them, looking for any Elven runes or similar. Once she's satisfied one of her kind is not around she loses interest and rejoins the group.

is the southern camp the emerald Claw camp then? Makes sense they would have zombie workers.

Yes it is.

Karsh'e snorts disgustedly. "Dragon Below." He returns to the party's camp.

"I had a good look at the greenclaws' camp on my walk. The stories about their evil are true. They have walking dead doing their work. "

DM EltonJ, sir, how many Claws and how many zombies would Karsh'e guess there are?

Too find out how many, exactly, requires more scouting. But so far you seen about five zombies and two Knights.

Goblin

She spits on the ground and shakes her head "Not-dead shanks. Pffft. Cluttering and loud. Not smart like Fix. Fiz happily make them all go boom!"

Escher is up for more searching. Then again, he's warforged and doesn't get tired.

"Another day, another day of digging." The simple physical exertion of searching is a comfort to Karsh'e. Its rythm reminds him of home. Every day in the marches was physical labor of one sort or another.
