Liberty's Edge

Ha! I was actually working on a Buffyverse inspired campaign this weekend. Mine is simply adapting ideas from the show for a campaign revolving around a town... but lets see how I can help.

Well for one there is no reason you can't use kobolds. While most of the show revolved around vampires and other demons... there were some mythical beasts. Anya's first husband Olaf fought trolls, and eventually Anya turned him into one. There was also an episode of Angel with zombie cops. So you could have many of the phb monsters as is. Sure, you'll want to focus on vampires and demons, but an occasional beast here and there would not look at all out of the ordinary.

Originally it may have fallen off the back of the truck, but two discs were literally thrown into my lap. How could I pass that up? ;0)

Liberty's Edge

A copy landed in my lap so I watched it over the past two nights. Great stuff! It's been a few years since I read it, but it seemed like they nailed it. It was just as good as Hogfather. I was also surprised to find that it covered the Colour of Magic and the Light Fantastic. The only part that was missing was the gods. I was a bit bummed about that, but otherwise I highly recommend!

Liberty's Edge

First let me say this movie schedule is further proof that Geek's have taken over the world ;0D I LOVE it!

Second, I've got mixed feelings about the Star Wars series. Mainly because it's ignoring and rebuilding the story done by Gennedy Tartokovski, to the point that the character models are OBVIOUSLY borrowed by GT's designs! I love the cartoon, and thought it was so much better than Episode III. We also (by the way of Ep. III) know the outcome of the series. At the same time, I really like the clone wars and I'm excited to see more development of it. So *shrug*

Hogfather was great, so Colour me excited!

Wonder if it's available online?

Good luck! It's definitely a huge undertaking and wish you all the best. That said, you have my full support! I absolutely love the stuff you guys have been producing (even though Rise of the Kobold King did leave us with a TPK just last week). Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Jason:

These rules are awesome! My gaming group feels like you were definitely listening to us. Color me impressed. Can't wait to see the rest. Good job!

Liberty's Edge

I've already pitched using these rules to one of my group at the local gaming shop. He's as pumped as I am. So I'd like to volunteer, but not sure how many con's I'll be able to run things at. (Though when I go I'd certainly be willing to run.) Is that enough to volunteer?

And congrats Mr. Logue! I look forward to what you'll bring to us in the future.

I wouldn't consider Guinness a chugging beer either. It might be me, but theres a distinct difference between downing a car bomb and chugging a beer. ;-) Then again on the right night I can drink Guinness like water. *shrug*

So now I'm curious about the Irish car bomb. When you say "drop the shot glass into the pint" do you mean pour it in, drop it in upright, or is this one of those drinks where the shot glass sits upside-down on the bottom of the pint glass, slowly adding its contents to the beer?

Mmmmm Guinness. The corrected directions would say "drop the shot into the pint, and bottoms up." :0)

My buddies love:

Soco and Lime

Almost fill shot glass with Southern Comfort.
Top off with lime juice.

A freshly squeezed lime works best. Due to the amount we drink, we order it by the shaker. (Though personally, I prefer to stick with a steady stream of Guinness.)

I'd never get to play it (as none of my friends are as into anime as I am) but I have pondered how I'd play any anime. But instead of using fan rules I'd most likely use BESM D20 or Mutants and Masterminds. Both are highly flexible and easily adaptable.

Liberty's Edge

I'm a bit late, but since I was just reading about this I'll chime in.

Kenzer Co. will be creating "5th Edition" Hackmaster in their own ruleset. They are moving away from using other people's rules, so they will not be using 3.5 OGL. They'll be using the rules they developed for Aces and Eights as the basis for Hackmaster. All this was posted by Dave Kenzer on the Kenzer boards.

I'm looking at Hackmaster as an alternative if I don't like 4e D&D. I'm a fan of KotDT, so its the next logical step.

Also, I love the save the gnome ads!

No, thank you Cosmo!

Liberty's Edge

Quick question before this goes through (as I see Pathfinder 6 is beginning to be shipped). Could we add hangman's noose to this order? I'm signed up for it to ship with next pathfinder, but it did not seem to grab onto 6. Thanks!

Liberty's Edge

Aces and Eights is a fantastic book. I have yet to play the game, but I picked it up at Gencon purely by looking at it. The book itself is gorgeous, and its totally worth the price simply to sit on my shelf.

That aside, its a really great looking game. From what I have read, combat is quick and deadly (as it should be in the wild west). Because of this they make most other events into mini-games. Instead of skill rolls like d20, everything has some sort of little game to figure out the results, this includes playing cards, to panning for gold. It's also very true to the wild west, and would give an excellent game to those interested in the genre.

I HIGHLY recommend it.

*drool*

I've been slowly working on a home brew campaign setting. But, the more I read the more I want to play in Golarion. Hats off Paizo crew, this looks fantastic!

Ah, ok thanks.

Then all I need to know is Pathfinder 5 on the list for me, and if not can it be added in?

Thanks again guys.

Liberty's Edge

I just signed up for a pathfinder subscription (after months of unsuccessfully trying to convince my local comic shop to carry it). I signed up for issue 4 figuring I would receive everything from that point, but my subscriptions indicates the next issue is 6. Did 5 somehow get skipped? Was there a mistake somewhere as I have two downloadable pathfinder #4 PDFs? Could I have issue 5 added in and shipped with issue 6? Thanks.

I have a character like this. It's really not as awesome as it looks on paper. See, the character has a major flaw, while he gets 6 attacks, he can't pile on damage. So send him against any creature with DR and his effectiveness is seriously reduced. We were in Maure Castle (our first mistake) and I was doing no damage to some demon down there due to his DR 10.

So send the party against a horde and this character will shine, but send it against something big and nasty... and his 6 attacks are for naught.

Liberty's Edge

I play in a long running monthly game which is going into its 5th year. My star character (most of us have two running around) is only level 10ish. He's pretty much retired, as he founded his own territory which he rules over. Adventuring is no longer a thought or priority, also its too dangerous. The progression on this campaign is great, and I've had time to really develop the character into my most memorable to date. So yeah, I like slow leveling.

My regular weekly group has been together (in some form) for 10+ years! Their high level characters are now 15+, and hearing tales of how much they accomplished is staggering. If you translate what they did into 3.5 they should be well into level 30+ if not 40. Unfortunately the campaigns these days seem to move very fast, sometimes to the point where some characters feel disposable. I'm not a fan at all, so if 4.0 speeds up leveling, something drastic will be required.

As for magic items, the monthly game DM has balanced it perfect. We've gone for months without any significant treasure. Then, we find a huge horde which makes up for anything missed. He hands out treasure based on our needs, or as part of a plot device. "Oh, we have to raise an army to fight against the invaders? Good thing our ally told us of this weapons cache, now if only we can defeat these monsters guarding it." He's mostly too generous with some of these hordes, but he doesn't mind because he knows we look forward to his game every month, treasure or not.

Liberty's Edge

When 4e comes around I'm convinced this will be REQUIRED. Look at the paladin's smite. The low level version gives allies an AC bonus for a round. If all the classes have something like this (which it seems they will) you'll need someway to keep track of it.

I feel sorry for Dm's in 4e when player ask to play a tiefling(AKA fanboy favorite Hellboy).

For the record, Hellboy is a full demon, just raised as a human. Though I have to say, the 4e picture of the tiefling does look much more like Hellboy than the 3E tiefling. In 3E they are supposed to be far removed demonic heritage (>25%). Perhaps 4E makes them more fiendish (50%)?

Oh, and I generally let people play a race once until I see it detracting from the game, though I dislike anything with a level adjustment.

Though Whisper gnomes? Never again.

Just to give you guys a heads up I'm going not going to continue for the time being. Game is lots of fun, but I really should spend the fall working on things around the house (since I put off a lot due to summer temps). Perhaps this winter I'll come back. In the interim, I'll be warping all my stuff to the corporate warehouses for your enjoyment. Have fun and kill some rats for me!

Willam is a lot different from my first character. I'm a Caldari Demtri Special Ops. I've started doing the missions for both my characters beyond the tutorial, and Willam has been nothing but kill missions, while the other was a good mix of delivery and kills. I got a condor from the last mission willam ran last night. MUCH faster ship than the starting one, as well as better all around. My only problem with it is on these missions I like to complete the kills then fill my hold with ore. The condor only has one turret point, so its either a gun or a drill. I'm definitely enjoying him much more, and I think a guy like this will keep me playing. So I recommend the solder :-)

Few questions though. I picked up some launchers but have not tried them. Do they require ammo, or do they have a basic missile until you add further ammo? Are launchers ok as primary weapons or should I have a railgun as well?

Kassil wrote:
They've had some hardware/database issues the last day or so. It'll be straightened out soon enough.

Ok. I was just worried because I'm having fun, but I have not been able to buy a new ship yet! And I have plans for at least two! So I'll most likely get an account... but I wanted to make sure I can play when I have time since after the initial "PLAY PLAY PLAY" period, it will be less frequent.

Liberty's Edge

Willam Fetch is online. Caldari Special Ops. Transport specialist, command secondary.

PS: Is the game usually this buggy? I think I'm kicked as much as I'm playing.

Liberty's Edge

I was reading through the players guide at lunch (I didn't want to do that last night and waste valuable game time!), and I might roll a new character. Trade seems much more complicated than I anticipated. So I think I'm going to do a warrior build focusing on leadership and speed. This way I can do transport missions, or agent missions as I need, and be able to help the corp out two ways. One, another warrior should we need it, one running group boosting capabilities, and two I can make runs for the corp so you guys can focus on your own specialties. It seems to me this can be highly profitable as I become more familiar with the game.

Liberty's Edge

Ah! This explains why I couldn't find them at Gencon!

Liberty's Edge

I was looking at the shuttle. It's cheap and quick, so it's all I need for some of these delivery missions I've been running. Problem is you can't mount anything to it. So that brings me a few questions:

Can you pick up one of your other ships anywhere, or only at the station you switched at? Is there anyway to upgrade a shuttle to mount things to it? Any other suggestions I might not be thinking about?

I had a good ol time last night while I was on. Not sure how to fire up the seven swords channel yet... But I'll get it! Did a bunch of missions last night. I guess I'm going to end up a trader of some sort, running back and forth doing missions. I'll also work on my leadership skills, to aid the group.

I definitely need a faster ship though. These trips back and forth are taking a bit too long. So which ships would you guys suggest? And what else will make my ship faster? Thanks!

Is there a scientist kind of job? Like a "Hey why don't we mine over here? Much better minerals here." Or is that summed up in miner or engineering?

So there I was last night, bored looking through my video game and movie collection for something to play and watch. Didn't really come up with anything good, or at least nothing I was in the mood for. What was I in the mood for? A free ranging game where I could do what I want, and a movie with lots of space combat. >.<

... So its only another 2 hours till work is over. Guess I know what I'll be doing tonight! Any suggestions on what you guys need a hand in? I was thinking scout (I'm in a exploring kind of mood... though I know nothing about the game except what I read here).

Suggestions are MOST welcome.

Of course, in later years, I was more of a fan of Marvel's G.I. Joe comic, which started off much like the cartoon, but skipped that whole Cobra-la crap. These days, Devil's Due Publsihing does the Joe comic, and they are doing a pretty decent job of it so far.

Since I was a huge fan of the comics (I own something like 80% of all GIJoe comics... and yes I'll admit that includes the GIJoe Extreme *shutter*)I'll elaborate.

The marvel comic was much more realistic than the cartoon, though in that comic book sort of way. Cobra commander was a used car salesman fed up with the American way. He started cobra through pyramid schemes eventually turning it into a terrorist organization. Destro was an international arms dealer and supplied cobra with its needed ammunition. Cobra didn't always try to rule the world off the bat. It used subterfuge and backed other terrorists for its own political gains. At times it even controlled the whole town of Springfield as a front for arms construction. The crimson guard doubled as elite cobra solders and a high powered team of lawers. They were lead by the twins Tomax and Xamot who were the top lawers in the firm. They actually legally claimed Cobra island as a sovern state mid way through the comics through the united nations. And yes, people did die in the comics. In fact there was an issue where about a dozen Joe's were executed by a Cobra agent. Sure, out of the realm of the real world, but no more than other Marvel comics, and not as far out there as the cartoon.

I read the devil's due comics for the first two years. I was really impressed considering the previous few years of GIJoe comics. But that petered off shortly there after. I still pick them up every month though. As a comic I can remember getting since before I could read, its really hard to drop from my list!

Anywho, if they did a movie like the marvel line I'd be stoked! I'm just worried it will go the way of Mission Impossible 3 and be more impossible less action. Or to say they'll just have a two hour action movie with no real story and call it GIJoe.

Also, the 80's action figures were only 3". The 12" were the dolls.

I agree. My plans are to build a party around Korvosa (or move them there) such that they are ready to take on W1. Once the party gets to a high enough level, I plan to have them create low level retainers who will act in Curse of the Crimson Throne. What things I develop in this area will stay in my notes. I will then append adventures accordingly as they arive from Paizo. If I like something that doesn't quite fit, I can retcon it. Much like someone said on another post, paizo supplies the tools, and I use them how I see fit.

So to answer James' question, do what you will. I trust you guys. I'll either make it work or I'll ignore it. You just keep 'em commin!
