I had not heard this, I am not happy about this. I find it greatly disturbing when these Hollywood executive types make these changes without consulting me first.

Not really.
The Clone Wars cartoon was something done by Gennedy Tartokovski for Cartoon Network - but apparenly it was done with Grorge Lucas' blessing. I would say it falls more into the "expanded universe" canon that allows other authors to use the Star Wars Universe.
I will say that both are similar in that they are essentially "animated" - the new version is all CGI based animation.
This is supposed to be the "official" Star Wars Clone Wars storyline to fill in the gap between Episode II and III. By official, I understand that Lucas was directly involved in making the story and developing the plot. I would say it is more akin to his "Young Indiana Jones" series - it will try to capture the same feel as the movie.
Also, whereas the first version was a "micro-series", this is supposed to be an entire TV series that runs at least 3 years (as per the storyline - not the actuality of what is to come). Its scehduled to also run on Cartoon Network and TNT.
I don't know anything about it being a movie, unless it's some sort of theatrical release that coincides with the few first episodes. Or did they mean it comes on TV starting in August?

First let me say this movie schedule is further proof that Geek's have taken over the world ;0D I LOVE it!
Second, I've got mixed feelings about the Star Wars series. Mainly because it's ignoring and rebuilding the story done by Gennedy Tartokovski, to the point that the character models are OBVIOUSLY borrowed by GT's designs! I love the cartoon, and thought it was so much better than Episode III. We also (by the way of Ep. III) know the outcome of the series. At the same time, I really like the clone wars and I'm excited to see more development of it. So *shrug*

It's a movie.
All I know plot-wise is that Anakin had a previously unknown apprentice/padawan of his own. She will be revealed in the movie.

I won't mind seeing most of those.
Quantum of Solace (AKA Bond 22) is due in November according to Hoyts,com.au. Then again they've already got dates for June 2010, so take it how you wish.
As for Clone Wars... I dunno. I don't have a lot of faith in George Lucas these days. I haven't heard anything about the plot but...
*snip*

I'm pretty sure that is the plot of The Force Unleashed, a multi-platfrom video game which WOTC is also being releasing as a suppliment for Star Wars Saga. Of course, that is speciffcally Darth Vader so I could be wrong.
And just to give everyone something else to think about, I understand there is a Solomon Kane film due out this year...

Eh, could be. I remembered reading it in passing somewhere and thought it sounded interesting.
I had heard about Solomon Kane, but I didn't think it was ready for release already? Last I heard, it was in the formative stages....

Star Wars Clone Wars - apparently a movie and a 30 minute tv series following the movie's release.
And, it looks like Anakin's padawan is in the movie. *shrug*
I stand corrected. Which means, assuming both are considered cannon, that Anakin had two students in his lifetime. Not bad for a man who only lived to be 45.

I did a bit more digging on Solomon Kane. According to the directors site (link) they started filming in January and were due to finish in April (i.e. now). Depending on post-production, they could very well have it out by the end of the year. It'll be interesting to see.

Well, the Dark Knight might be good is it's anything like Miller's Dark Knight Returns, but it'll probably be a bastardized version, much like Batman Begins was a bastardized version of Year One + Other stuff.
Man, geeks really have taken over large segments of popular culture. Most of these movies are full-stage juvenalia.

As far as as the Clone Wars movie goes.
Its GC not cell animated.
Anakin's padawan is Ashoka...She is the same orange-faced race as Shaak-Ti who was one of the jedi on the council in episodes 2 and 3.
Vader does take on a 2nd apprentice after becoming Vader in the video game Force Unleashed but they are 2 very different aprentices.
The movie is a glorified pilot episode for a TV series that will be on Cartoon Network.
Pretty much it boils down to Geroge Lucas realizing that if he puts the 1st episode of his show on the big screen he can make some extra cash. :)
