Awh crap. You know, its funny, at this point ive basically started associating them with core races for some reason. That online DnD game probably didnt help in that regard.

Hmmm, dont really wanna change the character, especially since his background is so tied to actually being a tiefling, so ill probably make another submission instead.

How are we looking on submission deadline?

And Im not on it. What am I missing to qualify?

Will you be putting up lists of the people youve registered as applicants?

Well if it doesnt break anything, why disallow it?

Anyways, looking a dusting off a character which hasnt been getting any game since I made him. This is the one. Gonna put that level two on if he gets chosen, not like thats gonna be a drastic difference anyway.

*Raises hand intrepidly*

"Not to cause you any more mental duress about your book keeping proficiency Mr. Fenwick sir." The pale Tiefling said, swallowing and looking a bit nervous. "But you seem to have also forgotten to include me in your list of applicants. So if you could add me..." He hunched over slightly, poking the tips of his index fingers against eachother. "That, uhm, you see.....Well I sure would appreciate it...Sir..."

Submitting Gregory, bomb slinging Tiefling for consideration. Ill be using the 25 point buy. Will probably need to tweak crunch a bit, but whats there should be a good indication of who he is.

Cheers.

There's a feat you can take to ride mounts the same size category as you.

Something tells its a 3rd party feat.

EDIT: Just to not make a completely useless post, ill add that techically there is nothing preventing you from riding a same size mount. Its just not suitable, meaning you take the associated penalties to Ride checks (-4 I think?) Ofcourse with the way Cavalier is written, it actually IS prevented, but in general it is not.

I found this out while trying to find a way for a dwarf to ride a boar, because, badass amirite?

Sumbitting Gregory, Tiefling Alchemist of the bombing variety. Gregory will focus on handing out buffs once he gets the discovery for it, and will be a knowledge font.

Sorry, I cannot afford to wish good luck on any of you, the competition is too formidable...So, instead, I shall wish myself good luck.

Good luck Gregory.

Thanks.

Ive had an interest in this campaign for a while, and getting into a game only for it to never start, hasnt exactly made that interest fade.

So I present to you Gregory, for consideration.

Gregory was made with the assumption that trading Brew Potion for Extra Bombs is allowed (The trade Alchemists get in PFS where crafting isnt allowed). Given that 3rd party stuff is being considered, im hoping this swap is on the table.

Spooky GM wrote:
@Gregory: He'll need a bit of a tweak to get in, I imagine, as right now his backstory doesn't account for why he'd be in Kenabres or anything about the Crusades, not to mention lack of one of the really important to everything campaign traits. But what's there so far looks alright. It's definitely a character goal that would be interesting to explore in the story, given its themes and such.

Im sorely tempted to go Heirophant simply for the roleplay aspect it presents, but then again, theres nothing stopping me from doing that anyway, so Trickster it will be.

As for background, thats luckily rather easy. The World Wound being what it is, and with all the demons running around, its the perfect place for Gregory to get some hands on experimentation done. Because lets face it, working with vials of demon blood and skin samples just isnt as effective as dealing with the real thing...and he isnt about to try his hand at summoning rituals thats for sure.

It will be put in there eventually, but thought id write a shorthand here for you in the interim.

This seems like a good place to trot out ol' Gregory, see if he can make it.

Gregory is an Alchemist of the bombing persuasion, of the Mindchemist archetype. He will be knowledgeable about anything extraplanar, arcane and natural plus some others. He will focus on control bombs and handing out his extracts to the party past level 4.

He was originally made for another ap, but it occurred to me, a tiefling who has actively been trying to cleanse himself of the demonic within him would make a good fit for this.

Probably gonna go for Trickster, although several of the others could also be made to fit, atleast thematically (Like Heirophant due to dedicated worship or Irori whose ideals of self perfection, enlightenment and knowledge fit well with his personality and goals)

Kboom wrote:
The reason PFS switched it out is because there's no magical item creation allowed in Society play.

Oh Im well aware. Still, they obviously deemed it a balanced trade though.

DM Repentance wrote:
We aren't doing PFS so if you could switch the feats that would be best.

Awh. I had hoped, since the trade is deemed a fair one by Paizo themselves for PFS purposes, you would allow it as an option.

This is Deliverance, officially applying with my Alchemist...thats this guy.

Gregory has been created with Brew Potion exchanged for Extra Bombs. That is the trade that is done for PFS Alchemist, so thought it would be ok. Lemme know if that doesnt fly with you DM.

I think everything is in order, but will give it another look over.

Im thinking its one of those times where there is no obvious demonic taint. Likely it is a distant relative of his fathers, whose tiefling nature was never mentioned to his grandfather. I feel if the origin had been known, his grandfather would have looked to that to went his anger. With noone to easily blame for the misfortune of a tiefling heir, all his grandfathers anger at the situation was directed at Gregory.

Wow, never even went that far in the book to see that! I like how they managed to sneak all those races in that "shouldnt" really see much play, with the use of the race builder.

They are very similar to Hobgoblins from a build perspective now that I think about it.

Huzzah!

Yeah, its really annoying : /

HeroLAb really shouldn't be used as a reference point for the legality of a build.

Its funny, I remember my idea for a tattoed empyreal dwarven sorcerer being shot down, but I cant for the life of me find the thread that discussed it. I just remember I ended up admitting defeat in the face of the arguments against it.

I think its something about Tattooed altering the bloodline, and Wildblooded doing the same.

F. Castor, barring DM approval to the contrary, Wildblooded cannot be combined with Tattooed Sorcerer. I personally think its b~&$#!!s, but the evidence is quite sound : /

Out of curiosity Hilde, can you link me to the rules for Gnolls as characters? My Google-fu is failing me : /

At first when I read this I went "Oh, whew ok, guess Gregory being a Tiefling is fine as well then".

But thinking about it, I thought it best to state that Gregory is a Tiefling, just in case.

A paragraph description of what your character looks like.:
I like to reuse this description I used in another recruitment threads RP tavern a little while back:

"You talk of fire like one who has yet to feel its hot betrayal on your flesh. You would do well to curb your enthusiasm and learn some respect for the elements you weild goblin."

Leaning out of the shadows, his words were given more weight to anyone who cared to look at him. Fully half his face, the entirety of its right side, was a tangled mass. Burn scars of an angry reddish brown color covered and distorted his features, his mouth and brow sagging into a permanent expression of sadness. From within its gaunt, deep socket, a milky white eye leered out into the room, its pupil-less stare seeming to follow your every move, like the eyes of a painting. It all stood in stark contrast to the untouched left side, pale skinned and smirking with a better knowing half smile. The skin, upon closer inspection, bore tiny sporadic patches of scales.

"Look at me and behold the glory of the fire you hold so dear, and pray you do not find yourself in its loving embrace as I have."

Reaching up his left arm, he scratched an itch on his right wrist, the act briefly revealing the arm underneath his heavy coat, the skin that same malformed reddish brown. Throughout the inn, minds silently pondered the extend of the ruin covered by that coat.

Also, a pic: Link

Why are you in Solku?:
Gregory has been on the road for several years, following his Grandfathers death and his own eventual bankruptcy. Initially having fled his home town to avoid debt collectors and disgruntled former employees, he now simply goes from one place to the next, making a living from his alchemy primarily, pulling guard duty for caravans, or performing physical labour if he has to.

His travels took him within a relatively short distance of the city, at which point he heard about the Archive of Eminent Tomes. Still holding out some hope that he one day might have the funds and time to continue his original research, he heads to Solku to visit the Archive and possibly pick up some relevant information. On his way, he has put aside some gold to be able to stay in the city for a few weeks without working, intending to spend his days reading.

What are your plans for the next seven days?:
Although Gregory intends to spend a fair amount of time sifting through scrolls and tomes in the Archives, he also sees his visit as a chance to "take a vacation". During the day, he will wander the city, seeing the sights and relaxing, before retreating to the Archive at night (or the other way around if the Archive closes down in the evening).

The city being what it is, he also holds out hope that he might find someone with whom he can continue his travel. Once or twice he has had such companions, but inevitably they have all reached their destinations, and he has continued on alone. His appearance means meaningful conversations with other people usually elude him, so he is feeling rather lonely of late.

Put bluntly, Gregory is "looking for friends."

A summary of how your character will be mechanically built (abilities, class, major character choices).:
Gregory is focused around utility, handing out extracts, throwing battlefield control bombs and being knowledgeable on anything related to his research (Nature, Arcana and Planes.) He will be levelling straight Alchemist

And a question for the DM. In PFS, Alchemists get Extra Bombs instead of Brew Potion. If possible, I would like to do the same with Gregory. His current crunch is set up assuming that is ok, but let me know.

*Swigs from flask, then proceeds to sob uncontrollably into it*

Geralt, anyone can read it afaik, unless theres some sort of privacy setting I dont know about.

RPing my pants off and no go...Im beginning to think theres just something terribly wrong with this character..

"hahah!!" Gregory laughed, slapping his thigh, then Cassius' shoulder. "Very good, very good indeed. Nothing like a bit of deadpan humor is there? Although I must admit, I have yet to face an actual orc. A half-orc here or there though." He tipped his flask towards Cassius and attempted to swig, having forgotten it was empty. Looking into it once more he added. "They had it coming though, and not because they were half-orcs...just really bad people. But then again, I guess a stereotype has to come from somewhere right?"

He didn't wait for an answer, getting up and staggering towards the bar.

Gregory peered into a once more empty flask with a forlorn sigh. Then, with that distraction out of the way, he rejoined the game. "Much too young I agree. But dont forget, you are talking to a man who purports to have visions of all manner of creatures. Suppose he talked to a dragon in on? I shall have to say, you have no son."

"Well, I guess that one wasnt hard at all then!" Gregory laughed. "Its all related though. You see, I am quite burned, but only from the arm and up. I take some medicine of my own make for the pain you see." At this, he reached into his pocket, pulling out a rather large and nasty looking syringe. "This right here, this is the good stuff."

Noticing the looks, he quickly packed it away again. "Ahem, well, Jack, I too shall have to go with the Grandfather Dwarf. Your father may have been adopted is my guess. Atleast, I do not think either humans or elves capable of conceiving with dwarves."

Having sat and pondered Kiernans options, Gregory quickly answered Rodgers when he to posed two options. "Oh thats easy. Even I have had friends, everyone has had a friend at your age. And drugs can be medicinal, maybe you fell ill at the age of three?" He nodded to himself, looking very pleased.

"Drugs are true, friends a lie." He said matter of factly, taking a swig and looking back at Kiernan again. "And for you, well, there are plenty of places in the world that are far away that I havnt heard of, so I wager thats the truth."

He swigged again, before sticking his tongue out and looking like he was concentrating. "Hmmm, ok, lets see now. ok, first one: Underneath my clothes, I have burn scars on fully half my body....Oooor..." he paused and looked around conspiratorially. "...I am taking drugs on a regular basis."

"The females are the ones with two bumps right here." Gregory said, leaning towards the birdman while holding his hands up to cup a pair of phantom breasts on his chest. He giggled and snorted loudly. "Ofcourse, some of the males end up having bumps to, when they eat too much." He started laughing. "So I guess my advice didn't help much at all!"

Gregory looked more than a little disappointed. "Ah..visions. I see. Well that's a real shame then." He took another swig for the nth time that day, letting go of Geralts sleeve. "I don't suppose you could give me a good description of the "thing" you say I remind you of? Maybe if I'm lucky I can scrounge up some illustrations of fiends and demons, maybe get an idea where I come from."

He swigged once more, then shook his head. "Bah! The planes! If you ask me, its all just a bunch of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey." Again the flask reached his lips. "I want to be entertained! Jack! Explain you game!"

Gregory grasped Geralts sleeve to regain his attention, wide-eyed, reptilian pupils becoming noticeably rounder. "Really? Who? where!? Part of my research troubles stem from a lack of common examples within the Tiefling "species", such as it is. We are just too damn different for science! If I could meet someone who was like me specifically..." He looked at Geralt, mouth half open, as he nodded expectantly at him in a "well go on, tell me" sort of way.

Continuing to make random small talk, mostly about the quality of the new liqour in his flask and black powder, Gregory paused, flask mid swig, as he noticed Geralt staring at him.

"What...?" he said, returning the mans stare, looking halfway worried. "...I uhm....I got something on my face...?" he asked, reaching up a hand and rubbing his chin.

Returning with his refilled flask to Cassius' question, Gregory fell into his seat rather heavily, removing his goggles to reveal a set of widely open reptilian eyes. He stared ahead of himself. "Woah...that's heavy." He took another swig, looking very confused by Cassius' question. "I guess I never thought of that. Come to think of it, I've hardly had any time to give it much of my time these past few years."

He held his head in his hands, eyes moving around the room, looking at nothing in particular. "Now I don't even know...But its really all I've had for so long." He looked up at Cassius, his mouth a thin line as he got a determined look in his eyes. "I think ill continue to try. If I ever have my breakthrough, ill decide then..."

Falling back into his own thoughts for a moment, once more staring ahead of himself, he was brought back to the table when Jack posed his idea. "Hmmmm?" he said, snapping back to reality. "Oh, yes, yes! Similar, yes, practically identical but for the ratios." He smiled widely, something he seemingly was not accustomed to. His jaw was apparently capable of opening quite a bit more than the average person, the smile displaying a maw filled with jagged, fang-like teeth. The distressed burn scars being stretched farther than they should didn't help the look any. "Seems fair enough. You let me follow along and I cook you up some more powder. It will help me learn to mix it properly to your specifications. Win win!"

He toasted Jack and took yet another swig. He was starting to look rather intoxicated, eyes blinking lazily out of rhythm.

"Pfffft, "chemistry". No, I study Alchemy, a rather more impressive branch of science. Its got a magic all its own." He took another swig, which was cut short as the flask was suddenly empty. He held it up and peered into it, as if he would be able to find some content that gravity had failed to coerce from within.

"Chemistry is bland and boring, even if it is the basis of my work. You might say that I too am a sorcerer of sorts. That is one aspect of my condition that is atleast an advantage. I suspect that without my heritage, Alchemy would be beyond me. That's irony for you right there..." He looked surprised as noone seemed to agree. "Oh right, you don't know. For years I've tried to use alchemy to rid myself of this cursed ancestry. Become a regular old human...see? Irony!"

Rising from his seat, he swayed from side to side for a moment, getting accustomed to his altered sense of balance, then staggered to the bar. "Just a moment gentlemen." he called back over his shoulder, before engaging the barkeep in conversation about what manner of liquor was available to refill his flask.

"Ah yes, you would likely know all about that wouldn't you." Gregory agreed with a nod. "Atleast my...condition, just as often makes people deadly afraid of me. From what I've seen, orcish blood only ever makes people angry." He took another quick swig. "Well, the people who don't understand the difference between a bad person and an unfortunate circumstance."

Having met no hostility yet, Gregory had slowly perked up a bit, although the increasing level of alcohol in his blood likely contributed its fair share. "What about you then, Cassius was it? Here for anything special, or running away from trouble as well?"

"Well, uhm, the thing is..." Gregory started, having arrived at the table when he noticed Jack was no longer at the bar. "...I've just sort of been moving from one place to the next for a few years now. And, well, every now and then, people notice how I'm different. And when that happens, sometimes, my vocabulary fails me and they wont believe the lie I give them." All the while he was speaking, he was wringing his hands nervously, eyes shifting around the table, looking for signs of realization from the others of what he really was. He laughed nervously. "Hehe, I really blundered this most recent time, tried to tell the man I had "the scalies" from eating too much fish...just my luck I was talking to a sailor...in a tavern...full of more sailors."

He sighed loudly, sagging in his chair to such an extent he almost slid right out of his seat. "Had to set fire to the place to escape, not proud of that. Anyway, this was the second town over..." At this point he lowered his voice to an almost inaudible level, apparently speaking to himself. Second town over, never the first, news travels fast, yes it does..." He stopped, looking up at everyone looking at him. "...Aaaanyway, didnt even know there was a festival going on, but its a nice surprise. So many travellers with open minds."

He gave everyone a jagged smile, then motioned at them with his flask in toast, before taking a long swig.

"I know how that feels." Gregory said looking sad for a moment and staring off into space. "Amazing how being different can ruin everything isn't it?" He waved the newcomer over. "Cant help you with the learning, but maybe a bit of friendly conversation?" He held his flask towards the man.

Catching Jacks reply Gregory perked up noticeably at his shorthand version of his name. "Ooh, "Greg", I like it. Too bad your name isnt really conducive to nicknames or Id have one for you too." He looked at him with what might pass for a smirk, although the twisted burn scar on the left side of his face made it look almost like a sneer. "Too bad about the Gun. "Obviously nothing like a sling." Gregory snorted at the youth. "Using the explosive force as a propellant, OFCOURSE!"

"Whats a boy doing in a tavern at a time like this anyway?" he asked with slight annoyance evident in his tone. "Don't you have some errands to run or something?" He took another swig from his flask, moving half a step closer to Jack.
