Goliath did not expect to hear anything about a druid's circle. "Interesting." While he was hardly the most studious druid, he would not turn down the chance to visit a Circle, even were it long abandoned. Taking a boat sounds less interesting than battling through the orcs on land, but then again the other party members are all quite small. "What happened to the Council of Thorns, master Silvermane?"

Goliath hefts his earthbreaker, running a hand over the metal head. "What can you tell us about this fort?" He grumbles. His preferred prey is not orcs or giants, but dragons. Still, uncontrolled hordes of orcs running rampant wasn't good for anyone, especially his tribe, which rarely had the protection of walls. Regardless, Goliath was known to engage in occasional big game hunting, and giants are about as big as they get.

Goliath lumbers into the Ivory hall. The shoanti druid is an enormous hulk at near seven feet tall and four hundred pounds. His piercing blue eyes gaze out from beneath a mane of shaggy brown hair, taking in each of those assembled. Despite his size, he does not carry himself with a lack of grace or control, for it is easy to break things when you are as large as he. His armor is much like a suit of fine knight's plate, but instead of metal it is made up of the naturally overlapping and nigh impenetrable scales of a green dragon. He wears his armor because Trunau is, apparantly, at war. His dragon scale helm is crowned with a set of auroch bull horns, which really does little to make him seem smaller. In one huge, gnarled fist he grips the wooden haft of his earthbreaker, a metal warhammer with a large head capable of catastrophic damage. He nods to the dwarf and grumbles. "I remember you from the battle. Fine work with that spear."

He opts not to sit.

Apologies! Forgot to dot the gameplay thread lol. Anyways, Goliath isn't ignoring the elves, I think he just has less appreciation or perhaps notice of the subtler and graceful work of elves =)

Goliath has a wand of clw with 22 charges which should get us to the next point we can aquire healing supplies. Spent my remaining cash on it. I've heard this AP is very easy after book 1, so unless JD modifies things I'm not overly worried about it.

@Jericho: I had an ECB/Shield magic trick unRogue once. Very fun.

JD said a week, so presumably tomorrow.

In other news, I made a slight change to Goliath. Instead of druid 4/ ranger 1/ druid x, I'm doing ranger 1/ druid x, which saves me from needing to use a trait for weapon proficiency. So he's Ranger 1/ Druid 3 now.

Behold: Goliath.
I'll probably take a level of ranger for Shapeshifting Hunter at level 5. Otherwise probably stay drood.

Goliath:

Goliath.

Just shy of seven-foot-tall and four hundred pounds, Goliath lives up to his name. Built like a strongman, many battle scars crisscross his tanned skin, the most notable being a wide, jagged scar that runs horizontally across his gut. His eyes are pale brown and his shaggy hair and beard black. He carries an earthbreaker, the signature weapon of the shoanti. His clothing is mostly the traditional leather clothing of his people: breechcloth, leggings, and moccasins. He generally goes topless unless donning his imposing dragonhide armor. Goliath is pondering and careful. It is easy to break things when you are as large as he is, and he is surprisingly gentle and slow to anger. His voice is gravely and deep.

Goliath is a shoanti druid of the Uleyov Shadde-Quah - the Wandering Axe Clan, born to Abey and Oakden. Taller and heavier than anyone else in the clan by the time he was twelve, Goliath was a much-needed addition to the clans’ warriors. He also had a penchant for druidic magic. The Uleyov Shadde-Quah wandered the northwestern Eye of Dread region, trying to eke out a living in areas either too hostile for soft peoples or too barren to support larger groups, never staying in one place for more than a few weeks. Stolid survivors of the hostile land they oft clashed with giants and orcs alike. It was in these conflicts where Goliath came into his own, harnessing druidic powers to match the giants in size and overpower orcs in strength. The tribe rarely settled for long, ever searching for something known only to the clans leader, Atsila. The most common place they might stay was just outside the walls of the centrally located Trunau. The clan became known to the town, and all were friendly enough. The Trunau natives certainly did not mind the buffer against the marauding orcs when the clan was camped nearby. Goliath once slew a dragon and to this day he wears its scales as armor.

Eventually Goliath wed a local girl, Aiyana, a human shaman. The Shadde-Quah enjoyed the injection of outsider blood into the clan. She longed to see more of the world and left Trunau to wander with her new family. The couple had three children: Ahiga, now on the cusp of adulthood, is eager to join in the fight against the giants and orcs, and Alona and Wildcat, twelve-year-old twin girls. Serendipity smiled on Trunau as the Uleyov Shadde-Quah was camped nearby when the Belkzen orcs attacked. Luckier still are they that Goliath is quite interested in this giant chieftain of which there is so much talk...

As a skill addict, no background skills absolutely breaks my heart but... eh, I'll get over it.

I'm submitting this fellow, Goliath Stormborn. Armored Hulk UnBarb/Goliath Druid. Out of combat keeps the party alive in the wilderness. In combat grows big and smooshes bad guys. I shall make the requested three sentance backstory, but since Goliath is my go-to gestalt character, I have a more complete backstory that I will also include.

Goliath:

An unusually large gloomkin half-orc, found as a newborn at the mouth of a cave in Varisia by a wandering tribe of Shoanti. The tribe took him in and traveled much of the inner-seas region, endlessly questing for something only their tribal leader knew. Now in Kenebras, Goliath is a strong druidic warrior seeking to close the Worldwound so that Golarion may heal.

====================

1. What is your character’s name?
Goliath Stormborn.

2. How old is your character?
34.

3. What would somebody see at first glance (i.e. height, weight, skin color, eye color, hair color, physique, race, and visible equipment)?
Just shy of seven-foot-tall and four hundred pounds, Goliath lives up to his name. Built like a strongman, many battle scars crisscross his blueish-white skin, the most notable being a wide, jagged scar that runs horizontally across his gut. His tusks were once impressive, but both have been broken in combat and are now hardly visible through his blue-white facial hair. He carries an earthbreaker, the signature weapon of the shoanti. His clothing is mostly the traditional leather clothing of his people: breechcloth, leggings, and moccasins. He generally goes topless unless donning armor and has a bearskin cloak for cold weather. Ostensibly a half-orc, some say he looks more ice giant than orc.

4. What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)?
Goliath is pondering and careful. It is easy to break things when you are as large as he is, and he is surprisingly gentle and slow to anger. His voice is gravely and deep.

5. Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who?
As an infant, Goliath was found by his tribe, the Uleyov Shadde-Quah (Wandering Axe Clan), at the mouth of a cave in the Stony Mountains in northwestern Varisia. It is theorized he was born in the Darklands and his mother left him on the surface, maybe to die, maybe in hopes of a better life for her child.

6. Who are your parents?
Goliath was adopted by Abey and Oakden, two humans.
6A: Are they alive?
Yes.
6B: What do they do for a living?
Fightin' demons.

7. Do you have any other family or friends?
Goliath's entire clan is currently in Kenabres. Atsila is the clans leader. Half-orc male, shaman. Blind, has a strong connection to ancestral spirits. Is seeking something, but no one knows what it is.

8. What is your character’s marital status?
Married to Aiyana: Human female shaman. They were betrothed since childhood in the manner of their clan. Aiyana is a shaman, using ancestral magics to bolster troops. Aiyana is the opposite of her husband in many ways, short and slight of build, quick-tempered and nontraditional.

8A: kids?
3. Ahiga: Human male, 14 years old. Aiyana and Goliath's son. On the cusp of adulthood, he is eager to join his clan in the fight against the demons. A squire, training to become a knight. Takes after his father.

Alona and Wildcat: Human females, 12 years old. Aiyana and Goliath's twin daughters. Too young to directly join in the fight against demons, they help out around the city

9. What is your character’s alignment?
Neutral.

10. What is your character’s moral code?
Morales are not often found in the wilds. Protect the natural world and raise strong children for a better future.

11. Does your character have goals?
Heal the Worldwound and let the balance of nature return to the land.

12. Is your character religious?
Not particularly.

13. What are your character’s personal beliefs?
Strong roots make tall trees. Do things right from the very beginning.

15. Why does your character adventure?
Goliath and his clan currently seek to heal the Worldwound.

16. How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer?
Goliath's connection to druidic magic gives him a sense of responsibility for the natural word and a perceived duty to cleanse the world of aberrations.

17. Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birth-marks, scars, deformities)?
Both of his orcish tusks are broken off and not visible through his beard. Maybe battle scars crisscross his body, the most notable one being a deep and wide gash that runs horizontally across his gut.

18. How does your character get along with others?
Goliath is not the most social or talkative person, even for a shoanti. He is not interested in interpersonal drama.

19. Is there anything that your character hates?
Disrespect for the natural world. Bad parenting.

20. Is there anything that your character fears?
The usual "adult fears" all parents know.

====================

They found the boy at the mouth of a cave in the Stony mountains of northwest Varisia. Some feared the half-orc but Atsila, the clan’s shaman, commanded the infant to be taken in. As difficult as it was for such a small group to survive in the demon-tainted Broken Lands, much of the group thought it was lucky to find another to add to their numbers. The child was named Goliath, and he rapidly grew into his name. Taller and heavier than anyone else in the clan by the time he was twelve, Goliath was a much-needed addition to the clans’ warriors. He also had a penchant for druidic magic.

The clan had wandered over much of the Broken Lands and Eye of Dread, trying to eke out a living in areas either too hostile for soft peoples or to barren to support larger groups, never staying in one place for more than a few weeks. Around Goliath’s twelfth year, Atsila guided the group less and less further afield, slowly spiraling towards Nerosyan, the city stationed where Mendev, Numeria, and the cursed Worldwound meet. Not all members of the clan were happy with staying in such proximity to a civilized city, but to Goliath it felt right – not that a boy had any say in the movements of the clan. The shaman felt sprits calling them deeper into the Worldwound. Goliath felt the call as well.

After gathering supplies in Nerosyan, the Uleyov Shadde-Quah began the dangerous trek up the West Sellen River on the boarder of Mendev and the Worldwound towards Kenabres. After three days and as many attacks by small groups of weak demons, much of the clan put their collective foot down. Most had no desire to head in this direction to begin with, and what could be gained from battling demons? Was their life not hard enough as it was? Their respect for their shamanic leader would only take them so far and after much debate, Atsila relented and agreed to return them to more hospitable lands, at least by their standards. They made camp for the night but would not have a chance to return from whence they came. An alarm was raised late that night when the watchman, Eharee, was found dead, gruesomely torn apart by the mighty claws of an unknown creature. Goliath and a newborn girl were nowhere to be found. The clan’s hunters quickly found a trail leading deeper into the demon’s land, and they gathered their arms and set off to rescue the two missing children.
Goliath does not remember much of what happened when he was taken, at least that is what he claims. He and the infant were spirited away into the dark lands, carried on the backs of some kind of corrupt, elephantine creature, surrounded by a mob of cultists in dark robes and masks carved from bone. Goliath and the infant were bound to a desecrated altar on the floor of a crater, and the ritual began.

Chanting and dancing. Strange smelling incense. Pain. Fear. Standing by the head of the alter, a cloaked being sang, a mighty hammer in its hands. Lit braziers spaced around the floor of the crater cast awful shadows across anything Goliath could see. He could hear his cousin screaming and feel her wriggling on the alter next to him. Suddenly, all was silent. The thing at the head of the alter raised its hammer, spoke a single, unknown word, and brought it down with all its might, intent on crushing the helpless boy’s skull. There was a deafening peal of shattering crystal and a flash of blinding light. His ears ringing, the only thing the boy could see was the afterimage burned into his vision of whatever had made the flash of light: a massive phantasmal oak tree. He lay there in the dark and silence for some time, wondering if he was dead. Slowly, his eyes adjusted to the darkness and the stars overhead showed themselves one by one, starting with the brightest. His cousins wriggling woke him from his stupor, and he sat and looked at what fate had befallen their captors.

The crater was dark, the braziers extinguished. All around him, where there had been men or orcs or whatever race they were, were only bushes and brambles. The once barren crater had been filled, taken over by huge roots and dense vegetation. The corpses of his captors were impaled on gigantic thorns, their bodies already looked to be mostly decomposed. The hammer meant to destroy him was rusted and broken, already breaking down to its base components and returning to the earth. Despite everything, he was no longer afraid. A clean, white heat burned in his heart, perhaps a gift from whoever had saved them. With uncanny ease, he broke through his bonds and gathered up his cousin. He left the alter, walking through the brambles towards the purpling sky that promised sunrise.

As dawn broke, Goliath crested the lip of the crater with his infant cousin in his arms and a new connection to the land. The loss of Eharee in the night raid was great, but the clan saw the children’s survival as a sign that they were indeed meant to be there, and they abandoned their plan to return to the south and continued northeast along the river to Kenabres.

Some twenty years have passed since their arrival in the besieged town. Goliath married and had three children. Goliath has made a name for himself as a fearsome fighter, his deep connection to earthly magics allowing him to grow to monstrous size in the heat of combat and literally crush the demons that would challenge him.

Don't eat the lil' salad, he's a friend, not food =(

Here be my final submission. There's a more detailed breakdown of stats and stuff in the profile if one is interested. Just trying to keep everything organized to account for mythic and gestalt.

Goliath is an Armored Hulk Un-Barbarian/ Goliath druid. I switched from Invuln barb to Armored Hulk since Goliath druids keep their gear when wildshaped into giants, so he may as well have heavy armor proficiency. Stone Plate is a long, long, way away though. He's gonna be really easy to hit for a while. He grows tall and smooshes the bad guys. I would normally submit a more divine/deity focused character for WotR, but druid/barb is at the top of my gestalt to-play list. Instead of wanting to battle demons directly, Goliath is motivated by a desire to heal the Worldwound. If demons try to stand in his way then that is their ill-advised decision.

Goliath is also a breatharian, so bad food won't be a problem for him.

At least we'll never run out of Goodberries.

@Silas Hawkwinter: Have you considered six levels of Sentinel? Shelyn's second divine boon is sick for paladins and six levels of the PrC also nets you +3 of the hard-to-get Sacred Bonus to attack and damage with deities' favored weapon.

Glorious Might (Su) wrote:
Your passionate devotion to Shelyn grants you extra prowess in your battles against evil, allowing you to see and root out the ugliness at the heart of your foe. When you use your smite evil class feature, you gain double your Charisma bonus on attack rolls and your Charisma bonus + your paladin level on damage rolls. This replaces the normal bonuses for using smite evil. If you don’t have access to smite evil, you instead gain a +2 bonus on weapon attack rolls against evil targets.

Since the Virtuous Bravo archetype already loses the AC bonus to smite, this is a pure buff.

Dot. I shall be submitting Goliath, a goliath druid/invulnerable rager barbarian, once I have updated his build for the campaign.

I made a couple small changed to Goliath's build and added that he has a family to his description.

Don’t both games start in Sandpoint? Basically the same game.

Goliath has a 40 foot long 5000 pound extinct apex predator for a pet and one of the other submissions is a literal alien. The smol gobbo shouldn’t draw too much attention.

Why wouldn’t the bonus feats stack?

I think strictly by RAW, identically named features ("bonus feat" in the case of warpriest//fighter) don't stack in gestalt, you just take the fastest progressing one. Personally I don't care, I don't know why I even brought it up. If someone wants to gestalt fighter/fighter and get 30 feats I ain't gonna complain.

Monkeygod wrote:

Still trying to decide what to pair Warpriest with, was leaning Fighter, but unsure if that's the final class I'll take.

Going to be a worshiper of Desna whose scared weapon is the starknife, and will likely be taking the Startoss Style feats.

Any suggestions? I know there's the Desna's Shooting Star feats, but idk if that's worth taking. Not sure I wanna go Bard or not.

Fighter doesn’t add much to warpriest unless you really want weapon/armor training. The bonus feats wouldn’t stack so you’d lose them on one side of gestalt, and bonus feats are 50% of what the fighter brings and 35% of what the warpriest brings unless an archetype removes the bonus feats. Maybe Flying Blade Swashbuckler? Full BAB and panache is CHA based, slightly better skills than warpriest. Warpriest + Swash would also give you best advancement in all three saves. Has the same bonus feat loss issue tho.

As for Desna’s Shooting Star “A cleric, inquisitor, or warpriest who worships a deity can choose to give up either the first power of one of her domains or a minor blessing benefit to gain access to her god’s divine fighting technique without having to meet the technique’s prerequisites (including the Divine Fighting Technique feat). In addition, a warpriest can give up a major blessing to gain the advanced benefit without meeting its prerequisites.”

I don’t believe a profile is required for a submission. Some people don’t like making them until they know they’ll be playing the character.

Goliath isn’t from Sanpoint, but he’s been there maybe three times in his life and he knows the area, so anyone just getting to Sandpoint could maybe meet him on the road. Anyone who’s lived in Sandpoint for a few years might know him. He has a dinosaur so he’s kind of memorable. If anyone’s interested.

I’ve decided not to submit my bard, Elaina, and do something better suited for gestalt so I present Goliath and his Allosaurus, Stormborn. Invulnerable Rager barbarian/Goliath druid. Out of combat they fulfill the wilderness expert roll with a little bit of diplomacy.

In combat they’ll be tank and melee dps. Early on Goliath will be damage and buffs. With the light armor feat and studded leather armor, Stormborn has 20 AC and three natural attacks and will fulfill the tank roll. Since animal companion’s survivability doesn’t scale like PC’s, they will switch rolls at level 6. Goliath will tank with the DR from barbarian and regeneration from moss troll form. Stormborn gets pounce and grab at level seven, so she will switch to damage/control

Goliath:

”We found him as an infant at the mouth of a cave in the Stony Mountains. He was alone and unharmed. We do not know how her got there. His kind, gloomkin half-orcs, are from the Darklands. Perhaps the cave holds an unknown entrance into that lightless land, and someone down there thought he would have a better chance on the surface. That is what I choose to think, at any rate.” The elderly shoanti woman sits back in her rocking chair, old bones cracking and popping with the motion. She was carving an auroch horn with a small knife. ”Of course many of the clan wanted to leave him, at least that is what they claimed. No one is that mindlessly cruel, not in my quah.”

”We took him back with us to Curchain hills, our home. He had all the problems you would expect of a child so different to his peers; even for a half-orc he stood out. That did not last long. By twelve years of age he towered over the other children, not two years later he was the tallest person in our tribe and he did not stop there. I’ve seen smaller ogres. His size was put to good use. Our Quah, the Shiikirri-Qua, works the fearsome members of the Tamiir-Quah to stop the giants who make their homes in the Iron Mountains from spreading west and south into Varisia. Goliath was a fierce warrior and a formidable foe; made all the more deadly when our Seer discovered the spark of druidic magic within him. He could harness the growth of plants to make himself as large as the giants themselves.” A hint of pride creeps into the woman’s voice and a small smile forms on her lips. ”It has been said that the giants have their own name for him. A name spoken in fear.”

”All of that is not to say Goliath is a mindless brute. He has a kind and gentle soul, loyal and wise. Patient and skilled with animals and people. His druidic magic has saved countless warriors. He has wandered much further than most of our Quah. I believe he even visited Magnimar once, but he always returns home.” The old woman holds the horn to the light, inspecting it. She gives a satisfied nod, happy with her work, and slips the horn into her pocket. It would make fine scales for a knife.

”As for that beast that accompanies him?” The old woman chuckles, a dry, rough sound. ”He’s had her for years, since she was a hatchling. I have no idea where he got her –her kind certainly aren’t native to varisia—but I’ve seen her tear a bull auroch apart in seconds and still allows the children to climb all over her. A truly magnificent creature.” She rises from her chair, more creaks from her joints, but straight back and broad shoulders belie her age. ”Why do you ask after our Goliath? Do you have a giant problem?”

====================

Just shy of seven-foot-tall and four hundred pounds, Goliath lives up to his name. His skin and thick beard are a pale blueish white like those of his fellow underground dwelling gloomkin half-orcs. He carries a falchion, the signature weapon of orcs. His clothing is mostly leather. Breechcloth, leggings, and moccasins. He generally goes topless unless donning armor and has a bearskin cloak for cold weather.

Obviously the most fair way to choose is a party is to recruit alphabetically by first name.

Can (Perdita Vernisant) be my long lost (Aasimar) sister?!
Reading your backstory it looks like first cousins works. Perdita's mother could be sister to Aletius' father or mother. You could have met Perdita for the first time after your injury down south -- on your way up north you could have stopped in Merciful Bay where Perdita lived at the time. In fact, we could have traveled north to Oppara together -- Aletius to grumble and complain with other bored young nobles, Perdita to study at Oppara's greatest magic university.

I haven’t read through Perdita’s profile yet but that sounds pretty good to me.

I made Aletius for the infamous other War for the Crown recruitment and never got around to finishing his backstory. The basic gist of the guy will be that ‘Aletius’ is more-or-less a fictional character. His story - while based in truth as all good lies are - is his own fictionalized version of his history that he wants others to believe. His vigilante identity, the spooky plague doctor known as the Raven, is the ‘real’ Aletius. Despite the spookocity factor of the plague doctor disguise, the Raven is a healer of the poor and a pro-government-reformation type guy.

I’ve never done a gestalt character before. I think I’ve got everything done correctly on the mechanical end. Vigilante/Alchemist, rogue-like, heavy skill focus. In combat he’ll mostly be a buffer/debuffer and an off-healer. Should have his character story done in the next couple days.

If chosen for the campaign, initially I’d like to try and keep the party from knowing Aletius is the Raven. If that doesn’t prove to be fun or just requires too much suspension of disbelief (HAS anyone ever seen Queen Elizabeth and Batman in the same room?) then I won’t insist on continuing that way.

I'm building Perdita Vernisant now. (Heavy Bluff, Knowledge, Diplomacy ; Investigator-(will multi-class here) // Wizard)

The background & personality, all the crunch, is in my head and scribbled on paper -- but my brain is fried after a looong day at work so it'll be a while before I get her profile completed.

Can it be my long lost blue-skinned sister?!

I thiiink I'm gonna do vigilante/alchemist. Social identity will be a bored young noble, angry that his promising military career was taken away by a crippling injury and causing trouble in town to entertain himself. Vigilante identity will be a spooky plague doctor throwin' spooky bombs. Will take the chirurgeon alchemist archetype because... it replaces poison and poison is pretty useless in pathfinder and probably the inspired alchemist archetype for the bonus to skills the congnatogen grants. Out of combat he'll be skills and social, in combat I intend to focus mostly on buffing and debuffing.

Cool. I’ll submit this guy. He’s a Vigilante since this seems like a good AP for it. I’m thinking of gestating with Alchemist or Investigator or maybe bard. Something with good skills and some spells.

Take all the time you need, Mike. You don't owe us anything.

I'm submitting this guy. I realize there is already quite a few skilled martials on offer, but this seems like a good campaign for a Vigilante, so I am going to add to the pile. Aletius’ roll would be mostly skills/social. Combat will be archery, maybe throwing weapons. I took the Child of Oppara trait and bought Concealable Thieves’ Tools for 190GP with the 200 GP item the trait allows. I also took the Noble Scion feat and chose Vernisant for the bonus to knowledge skills. A casual googling of the family name didn’t turn up much and I don’t want to dig too deep and stumble upon spoilers in case the family is relevant to the story, so for the moment I’ve left his place in the family vague.

The background for Aletius is the in-world, fictionalized version of Aletius that he has spent years cultivating. The Vigilante Identity is more the ‘true’ version of Aletius, but I am still working on the Vigilante Identity’s story.

Money: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 3, 6) = 15 X 10 = 150. Average it is.

Behold Hrork-Hrork Ironfeather, mighty tengu samurai.

I took the yojimbo archetype. It trades out the mount and archery, which I'm not interested in, for some thematic guardian type abilities. With the Order of the Guard samurai order, he should make a decent tank with heavy armor and a two-handed weapon. The archetype gets bodyguard at level two, I'll probably take power attack and crit feats but might follow the Bodyguard feat line if it proves effective. Samurai don't get any bonus feats so there isn't an enormous amount of customization there. He has a little bit of diplomacy, know geography and survival and has a ton of linguistics since tengu get +4 linguistics. I'm still going back and forth on some things, but the profile is more-or-less complete. Shouldn't be any major changes.

Today I learned Paizo only has two tengu forum avatars. My people will not stand for this.
