Declined as is. The change would need to make sense. How does training animals help you convert people to your ideology? You may attempt a larger and more coherent homebrew adaptation, but I see no in universe reason for this one.
CHARACTER CREATION NOTES: I removed the free story and teamwork feats.
Getting back on the horse . . . Are there any new or pending questions for me? Please PM me your backstories, using the following guidelines:
I am looking for raw data here, not a good story. I am going to print out what you send me, and use it as a reference document while GMing, so please write with that in mind.
Unless I missed something, Deny the Reaper doesn't say anything about taking 10. And you already can take 10 on Heal outside of combat and other stressful situations. Also, I am okay engineering the nature of a death to fit the requirements. Either because it's going to happen anyhow, or because a player wants to change characters. Damned approved That one can start as turned on. The outsider will just interfere in your affairs at some point, to play out the existing relationship.
Skill Unlocks approved
*Like the previous story feat, you would not be able to meet this prerequisite pre-gameplay. You may still take it, and wait for the benefit to start. Personally, I would love to kill a PC for you :-Þ **There will be a LOT of GM adjudication involved in the practical use of this trait, so I want to make sure you have some idea of how I would rule: -Since the trait does not mention an action type, it defaults to "Action: Attempting to deceive someone takes at least 1 round, but can possibly take longer if the lie is elaborate (as determined by the GM on a case-by-case basis)." -Like illusions and saves to disbelieve, interacting with the object or seeing you take an action which conflicts with the lie, would grant an immediate Sense Motive check. -Let's run through some alternates for the base example of glaive/quarterstaff: DC 25
The target wants to believe you (+5) NPCs are hostile and expecting a threat, and you say a fishing pole is a quarterstaff. The lie is unlikely (-5) The glaive is a masterwork quarterstaff. The lie is far-fetched (-10) The glaive is a magical quarterstaff. The lie is impossible (-20) The glaive is an artifact quarterstaff. You possess convincing proof (up to +10) The glaive is currently under magical effects which make it function like an appropriately enchanted quarterstaff.
Tycoon wrote: EDIT: When I hit submit your previous post went through. First time getting assassinated by the PbP ninjas? Don't worry, the wounds heal faster every time. If you're going for Healer's Hands, Incredible Healer is a must, IMO.
Tycoon wrote: Also, at the risk of shooting myself in the foot, you can typically only take 20 on tasks that have no penalty for failure, as it’s expected you fail many times while attempting. Can we take 20 on the Perception side of disabling traps? Yes. If the trap would be triggered by a failed search, it would also be triggered by a successful search, i.e. only an incompetent searcher sets off traps while finding thrm.
In hindsight . . . CRB wrote: Chaotic, Evil, Good, and Lawful Spells: A cleric can't cast spells of an alignment opposed to her own or her deity's (if she has one). Spells associated with particular alignments are indicated by the chaotic, evil, good, and lawful descriptors in their spell descriptions. That means your build would be prohibited from casting evil and good spells, as well as chaotic.
Cassius Macero wrote: The rules for Alignment spells is that you can’t cast a spell opposed to your deity’s so I could cast them fine. Incorrect. CRB wrote: Spells: A cleric casts divine spells which are drawn from the cleric spell list presented in Spell Lists. Her alignment, however, may restrict her from casting certain spells opposed to her moral or ethical beliefs; see chaotic, evil, good, and lawful spells. A cleric must choose and prepare her spells in advance. Casting prohibition is off your alignment, not your aura.
Pact Servant approved*
*First, this only applies to your alignment. Your aura would still be lawful evil. Second, you must be consistent across all applicable choices. Any time the class description says "A good cleric (or one who worships a good deity)", you must base it off your alignment rather than your deity's. Third, per your backstory idea in Discord, and to make sense of your extensive travels, I would require the character to be at least middle aged, including the ability score bonuses and penalties. **Playing a lawful good cleric of Asmodeus would prevent you from using this feat. Nemesis approved Additional Traits legal (or at least should have been)
***You would need to fulfill the prerequisite in game before being able to benefit from this feat. But yes, you may choose it at creation, and it just won't be in effect right away. ****You would need to be a member of the Pathfinder Society and its relevant faction, and work that into your backstory. Evasion Read both texts carefully. One may say that you get improved evasion, if you already have evasion. But yes, using the retraining rules on one of the abilities is a possibility. Disable Device I do require that the disabler be able to perceive the trap, though not necessarily the first person to find it. At a practical level, this means that it may take longer in game; and if Avery's take 20 result is only 29 Perception, he will not be able to disable a trap that is DC 30+ to perceive.
Let's officially go with variant multi-classing instead of normal. Prestige classes are still allowed, as those are different from multi-classing (at least in my mind, if not the actual rules). Just keep in mind, the feat replacements of VMC still apply even after/during prestige class levels. Mutation Warrior approved
*This could be an option for casters, but definitely not for a non-caster.
Tycoon wrote: Here’s a bit of a curveball. What are your thoughts on Variant Multiclassing? I would be okay with this, but since it is an entirely new system rather than just one specific option, I don't want to rule without feedback from the whole table. I could see this leading to an existing PC getting reworked from scratch, and don't want to just dump that on an unsuspecting player. How does everyone else feel about replacing normal multi-classing with this alternate system?
Rondelero Duelist approved
*Be warned, this is the type of backstory that gives the GM license to have fun at your character's expense. **This needs to be worked into the personality.
Tycoon wrote: CRB and Ultimate Equipment are the only Unrestricted books, correct? The rest are by permission only? Correct, although most stuff will be approved. The big exception is Occult Adventures. Tycoon wrote: Most typical front-liners just don’t have the skills or abilities I’d want to really enjoy myself . . . . The Player’s Guide for WftC recommended Diplomacy, Bluff, and Sense Motive in Social Combat, which I do want to actively participate in. Relevant and Important Post. "Social Encounter" is incredibly misleading. A barbarian, tactician, or lore warden would tie you for most useful party member during social encounters. A ranger would be the best PC. Tycoon wrote: All that considered, would a Monster Tactician be appropriate, welcome or allowed? When asking for approval, please include links. There is a lot of duplicate terminology to complicate searches, plus the fact that "The clearer you make things for me, the more time and energy I have to be creative for you." But yes, it would be allowed. Tycoon wrote: If so, would summons be “enough” of a front liner? Probably not. There are other challenges, but the biggest is that your DPS becomes a finite and diminishing resource. The enemy will be raking his claws and thrusting his spear long after you run out of summons.
Tycoon wrote: Are we just jumping in on this thread or starting a fresh one for the AP? Planning here, since a lot of the info is already here. Actual play will be in a new thread. Tycoon wrote: When do I meet my new allies in arms? Soon as the adventure starts, though what exactly that means depends on how quickly I finish creating some NPCs. I would like to do some stuff before the book begins, IF I can prep in time. Tycoon wrote: Will we be able to explore avenues that may not be explicitly spelled out in the AP, such as becoming public figures? In general, absolutely. In specific, spy/public figure is a risky combination; enter at your own risk. Tycoon wrote: Also, I have a discord, Trout #7261 Friend request sent.
My GM profile now has a section about some of my rulings and interpretations, which should give you a better idea of my GMing style. I strongly encourage you to read it all, as my style is not for everyone. If you've gotten this far in the recruitment, it's unlikely that you would hate the way I GM, but that doesn't mean you would actively enjoy it either. And if there's any information that would help you figure out whether you'd have fun with us, ask away.
***GM ANNOUNCEMENT*** In order to create some conflict for y'all to resolve, I'm going to hold down the fast forward button for a while. A month into the journey, a storm damages Besmara's Wrath and blows it off course. Rushing repairs and then risking some dangerous waters provides a small chance of delivering the shipment on time, but every other option guarantees a late arrival and minimal profits, at best.

Sabjorn Thrice-Drowned: captain
Backstory: Captain Sabjorn recently exiled a well liked member of the crew, Blanchbeak. Unfortunately, Blanchbeak was also their contact with several employers. The captain heard Lord Vitori often has need for a ship in their line of work, and has approached him. As a test, Lord Vitori has hired the ship for a mission, and is tagging along to see how they do. Sir Drystan Goldenflame is his bodyguard. Details about individual motivations will be PMed, and should remain secret--so if you have any questions, send them privately. I tried to keep the motivations simple and vague, so that you can improvise more easily. That's it for now, let's get started!
Everyone: Thank you for your interest and participation. I apologize for the speed bumps along the way; this was my first time recruiting like this, and there were definitely some errors in the trial. Tycoon, PatheticWretch, SodiumTelluride, and Ouachitonian: please report to round 2 with a new PC.
Round 2 will begin Monday morning (ET) and finish Saturday morning. We are looking for 4-5 posts spread out across the 5 days. Character motivations will be sent via PM this time, and should remain secret. The setting is a pirate ship, but you can still bring any character--remember, it needs to be a different PC than you used in round 1. If your preferred character doesn't fit the setting, I will come up with some sort of explanation that makes sense; just play who you want and don't worry. As always, if you have any questions, please post them here.
