I am trying to figure out what languages we are allowed to pick from for Society characters.

I have a Goblin that I’m just now leveling to 2nd.

Goblin ancestry in the CRB says::
Languages Common Goblin Additional languages equal to your Intelligence modifier (if it's positive). Choose from Draconic, Dwarven, Gnoll, Gnomish, Halfling, Orcish, and any other languages to which you have access (such as the languages prevalent in your region).

The guide says:
Bonus Languages

A character with a high Intelligence score can select bonus languages from the list of modern human languages above or the bonus languages listed in the source for the character’s ancestry.

So with an Int of 18, you would have Common, Goblin, and 4 others. My reading of the language in the guide allows anyone to pick languages like Shoanti.

Can my character know Undercommon? It is listed in Table 2-1 as a Common Language.

Does “...any other language to which you have access...” allow you to pick off that table? I suspect not, because if you could there would be no reason to list Draconic or any of the other languages that appear both in the Ancestry Languages entry and Table 2-1.

Is the only way to get Undercommon for the core races via Multilingual feat?

How about Ignan? It is an Uncommon Language listed in Table 2-2.

Can it be picked up via bonus language, or does it require Multilingual feat?

One of the new archetypes in Character Operations Manual is the Powered Armor Jockey.

COM pg. 106 wrote:
Most powered armor jockeys are soldiers or vanguards. Powered armor jockeys of other classed exist, such as mechanics who appreciate powered armor's technical sophistication.

The problem is that the archetype starts at 6th level and requires Powered Armor Proficiency. The Powered Armor Proficiency feat requires a BAB of +5, which Mechanics and other 3/4 BAB classes do not get until 7th level -- the level after they are supposed to start with the archetype.

There is one Mechanic Alternate Class Feature in COM -- Experimental Prototype with Armor -- that does give proficiency, but any existing Mechanics have no way to switch to that.

I don't see a way to gain access to this archetype with a partial BAB class without multiclassing.

Am I missing an option somewhere?

As the subject line says, is there any way to improve the Dex Cap on armor?

It used to be that Mithral Armor would have a higher Dex Cap. I am not seeing that in the rules for special materials. I also didn't find anything in the runes that made me think it ever increased. Given the attribute boosts, a +4 Dex Cap on Leather Armor will quickly be exceeded by certain types of characters.

Two types of armor that used to be excellent for high Dex characters no longer seem worthwhile. Neither Celestial Armor nor Elven Chain override the normal Dex Cap for their armor types.

Am I missing a rule someplace? I was really expecting to be able to get armor with a higher Dex Cap. It really looks like a high Dex character is better off with Leather or Explorer's Clothes to start and Bracers of Armor at the high level.

Welcome!

I always do my best to run a friendly game. I want people to have fun and everyone to be able to laugh when something crazy happens.

I really want everyone to be able to post at least once a day, preferably more. If you are going to be away from the game for a short period (such as attending a convention, on a short vacation, or needing to do some business travel), I would ask that you please post that here so everyone involved knows.

Character Profiles

Please have a profile header displaying a brief overview of your character's current status. At the least it should include current/maximum Stamina, Hit Points, Resolve Points, EAC and KAC, and saving throws.

In the character profile, please include a complete stat block. You may put it under a spoiler if you wish, but if you do so please put it under a single spoiler. I do not want it split across multiple spoilers.

If you have your character sheet on a different site, please have a link to it in your character’s headers. This allows me to pull it up from any post by the character, rather than having to go to the profile and from there to the external sheet.

If you want examples, the PbP GM Kit has the pregenerated characters done in BB Code. Use those as a general guideline.

Botting

Botting is when someone else makes a roll or otherwise does something on behalf of your character. Bot is short for robot.

Please include botting instructions in your profile and a general tactics in case someone else needs to bot your character. It is alright if you put this in a separate spoiler from the stat block, but once again please don't split it over multiple spoilers.

Please also indicate if you have a preference for who runs your character. If there are resources you don’t mind them using, please say so.

If your character has any abilities that interrupt play such as Swashbuckler Parry and Repost, Dual Cursed Oracle’s Misfortune Revelation, the Bard Spell Saving Finale or any other things that can interrupt the normal sequence to allow an action, modify a check or cause a re-roll, I ask that you have something in your Botting instructions about when you want this used.. The reason is that it can really slow down a PbP if you have to serialize actions.

Initiative in PbP

I will roll all Initiative checks for PCs and NPCs, sort them, and organize them into blocks. I will bold the names of characters that should act. I will take the NPC actions in order and reserve the right to delay an NPC in order to make them act with a group of other NPCs.

When it is your turn to act, please post. Do not wait for someone else to post just because they had a higher Initiative. If you know what you want to do but want to wait for someone else’s action to go off first, just say that.

Here is an example of how you could post before another player but have it go off after another player:

Quote:

Sir Cumference waits for the elven mechanic Mister Oakleaf to get done firing his bowcaster before charging the Wily Snark.

Attack with High Tech Pointy Stick: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

I (and most other PbP GMs) do grouped Initiative in order to keep the adventure moving. In PbP people will have different posting schedules and often live in different time zones, Waiting for posts in order could make a single round of combat take days to resolve. Even in a normal game, that slows things down too much. In a special, you would never have time to complete anything.

Within the rules, it is as if everyone within the same Initiative block delayed until they could post.

Chronicle information

In order to be able to generate a PFS chronicle, I ask that each character please provide me the following information:

Character name:
OPF and character #:
Faction:
Day Job roll (or a note that you have no day job):

Character Profiles

Please have a profile header displaying a brief overview of your character's current status. As PF2 is a new system, we will need to experiment a little bit to figure out what works best. It should include your AC, Saving Throws, Perception, and expendable daily resources.

In the character profile, please include a complete stat block. You may put it under a spoiler if you wish, but if you do please put it under a single spoiler. I do not want it split across multiple spoilers.

If you have your character sheet on a different site, please have a link to it in your character’s headers. This allows me to pull it up from any post by the character, rather than having to go to the profile and from there to the external sheet.

You can look in the PbP GM Kit for pregenerated characters done in BB Code and use those as examples. Hopefully they will get the standard pregenerated characters for PF2 up once they become available. If you want to volunteer to help with this, I can find out who you should contact

Botting

Botting is when someone else makes a roll or otherwise does something on behalf of your character. Bot is short for robot.

Please include instructions in your profile and a general tactics in case someone else needs to bot your character. I highly recommend this include the dice expressions used for common actions. It is alright if you put this in a separate spoiler from the stat block, but once again please don't split it over multiple spoilers.

If there are resources you don’t mind being used up by botting, please say so. If there are resources you never want someone using, it is alright to say that as well.

If it makes you more comfortable, you could specify who you want to run your character when you can’t post.

If your character has any abilities that interrupt play, I ask that you have something in your Botting instructions about when you want this used. Usually it would be Reaction [R] that changes the result of the triggering action. The reason is that it can really slow down a PbP if you need to serialize actions between multiple people.

Once we get the rules, we can figure out what could cause these sort of problems together.

In my experience, creating a bot structure can help with your own posts as well. Assuming you put complete dice expressions in the botting directions, it makes it easy to cut and paste.

Having something catch fire is a common hazard adventurers often encounter. I've seen it in a number of PFS scenarios and each time the way to put the fire out was slightly different, especially when it came to using magic. Most of the time the mundane method was using Survival skill.

It would be nice if we could have a fairly consistent set of rules for putting out fires. It should include what effect cold or water spells have on the fire. The information should be in the same section that talks about fires, choking on smoke, etc.

We are going to try and complete a full module, so we will need to maintain a fairly quick pace!

Botting those dreaded doors!

To speed things up I am going to ask the group for a marching order, typical weapon(s) or items at the ready, and the procedure your group follows when entering a new significant area. I will then put the whole procedure in a spoiler that is part of the post for the area.

This will allow us to more quickly proceed with the adventure.

I mention doors because without a procedure opening a locked door can take an extraordinary amount of time. I do not want to have to wait for each character to post what they are doing at every door before you open it!

Initiative in PbP

I have one spot open at my Tier 5-6 table for Legacy of the Stonelords.

This is a PFS Event that is part of the RetroCon PBP Convention. Your character must be a legal PFS character and either 5th or 6th level.

Reminder:
You may only play at one RPG table and one ACG table during this convention. If one of them is a table not on Paizo.com or else is Cosmic Captive, you may sign up for two RPG tables.

If you meet the above criteria and want to play, please sign up here in the empty spot (cells A45-E45) for my table and then post here saying you are taking the slot.

Recruitment closes once we have a valid candidate or the special has moved past the first battle.

Is it allowed for a hireling to take a role in Starship Combat?

For reference:

Basic Hireling Access (Ally Boon):

Basic Hireling Access (Ally Boon)
You can requisition basic assistance from the Starfinder Society.
Prerequisites: All Factions Tier 0
Cost: 1 Fame
Benefit: You bring on a non-combat ally that can assist with a certain set of skill checks. This ally can perform the listed skills with a total bonus equal to your level. You must expend any necessary actions and be in range to perform the action yourself. The ally's result cannot be modified by class abilities or spells, but can be improved by a successful aid another action. The ally does not participate in combat, cannot be killed outside of combat, and has no effect other than providing the ability to attempt skill checks. The ally can attempt a given skill check only once, cannot retry a check, and cannot take 10 or 20 on a check.

When you select this boon, you must select one of the following sets of skills.
Set 1: Computers, Engineering, Physical Science
Set 2: Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate
Set 3: Culture, Medicine,
Survival Set 4: Life Science, Mysticism, Physical Science

Special: You can purchase this boon multiple times. Each time you purchase this boon, you can select a different set of skills from the list above. When slotting this boon, you can select only one of the skill lists you have available from the above list, even if you have purchased multiple lists.

The higher tier Ally boons just allow you to get an Ally with a higher skill bonus.

There are three positions that could be filled by a hireling purchased with fame: Captain (Set 2), Engineer (Set 1) or Science Officer (Set 1). In most cases, the skills of a hireling is going to be lower than a player character would have. The exception can be when you combine hirelings with the Efficient Administrator ally from the Second Seekers (Luwazi Elsebo) faction.

Allowing it would allow characters that don’t see themselves as being experts at a Starship role to still bring something to the group for use in Starship Combat. Note that it would not allow a single person plus ally to fill two positions because the ally uses your actions. Instead of expending skill ranks, they would be expending fame.

On the other hand, it does say “The ally does not participate in combat” and although a completely different system than Tactical Combat, the Starship Combat is called combat.

If it is supposed to be allowed, I would suggest the Guide be updated to specify that they do not participate in Tactical Combat.

The normal rules for Aid Another are that you have to pick who is leading in a skill before rolling. The person Aiding gives either a +2 or +4 to the skill check on a Success or Critical Success.

I have seen a variant in multiple adventures for PF1 and Starfinder where everyone rolls, the highest result is the skill roll and you treat the others as Aid actions.

I like this method a lot better since it uses the most favorable roll. If you have two characters as the table both good at a skill, it tends to promote a friendly rivalry (let’s see who finds it first!) and doesn’t make someone who rolled really well feel like their roll was wasted because they chose to Aid rather than roll for the skill.

I know this would give a higher result than the current method, but is that really that bad? I would like to suggest this be the default Aid. I wouldn’t mind if the bonus from the Aid were reduced to +1/+2 because of the higher chances of success.

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I just had a player drop from today’s Playtest run.

The reason? They didn’t have time to build the character.

Does anyone have a reasonable 9th level fighter build I can use to fill out the group? The original player had gone Human Sword & Board with Furious Focus.

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

When will we a scenario where the character levels aren’t all exactly the same?

Right now, I’m concerned because it looks to me like being the low level person playing up is much more deadly and much less effective. Think of the person playing a level 6 on a 6-9 table, the bosses are going to be capable of critting about 25% of the time and almost guaranteed to hit. The spells will be especially effective against the person playing up and they will have less resources to mitigate it.

I would really like to see some tests with a group of mixed levels, like it typical in a PFS game. In a home game, it isn’t too tough to keep everyone within one level of everyone else, but I really don’t see that as practical in PFS.

I have a campaign that will be starting very soon as part of PbP Gameday VII. It is currently marked inactive and I can’t get it to show as active. I’ve even gone in, marked it inactive and then marked it active again to try and make it show up.

PbP GD VII session two campaign

I would very much appreciate it if someone could help me with this.

Thanks!

Currently the sneak attack says:

Quote:
If you Strike a flat-footed creature with an agile or finesse melee weapon, an agile or finesse unarmed attack, or a ranged attack, you deal 1d6 extra precision damage. For a ranged attack with a thrown weapon, that weapon must also be agile or finesse.

Then we have the Bludgeoner Rogue Feat.

Quote:

You make brutal bludgeoning attacks that daze your foes. You can deal sneak attack damage with one-handed weapons of the club and mace groups even if they don't have the agile or finesse trait. When you Strike with that weapon and critically succeed at the attack roll, you gain the following enhancement.

Enhancement The target is slowed 1 until the end of your next turn.

Since even in the core playtest we are adding weapons to what the rogue can use Sneak Attack with, I would recommend you create a classification for these weapons and change the descriptions. That will make it easier to add other feats that expand the weapons and allow you to cleanly specify when something is limited to weapons that a rogue can use to Sneak Attack with.

——

I assume that the weapons from Bludgeoner are not supposed to get Dex to Damage. The way things are currently worded they wouldn’t get it.

——

If a Rogue takes Bludgeoner, should their proficiency in those weapons increase to Expert at 13th level when they get Weapon Tricks? Currently the way it is worded they wouldn’t get that unless the weapon was also a simple weapon.

I would suggest you expand this to include any weapons they can Sneak Attack with. That way it would include the weapons from Bludgeoner and any future weapons you may add.

You concentrate key particles in your blood into tiny biological nanobots that you can inject into a foe with a touch, disrupting and damaging its natural processes. Make a melee attack against the target's EAC; if you hit, the nanobots deal 4d8 damage and swarm through the target's biological or mechanical systems, causing the creature to be confused, as per confusion, for 1 round per your caster level. If the target succeeds at a Fortitude save, it takes only half damage and negates the confusion effect. A confused target can attempt a Will saving throw at the beginning of its turn each round to end the confusion effect.

Casting this spell doesn't provoke attacks of opportunity.

Confused, pg. 273-4:
Confused
You are mentally befuddled and can't act normally. You can't tell the difference between ally and foe, and thus you treat all creatures as enemies, even your closest friends and family, if applicable. An ally who wishes to cast a beneficial spell on you with a range of touch must succeed at an attack roll against your Energy Armor Class, since you cannot be considered a willing target. If you are attacked while you're confused, you always attack the creature that last attacked you until that creature is dead or out of sight, unless it is otherwise impossible for you to attack it that round.

While confused, you can't make attacks of opportunity against any creature or thing that you aren't already committed to attacking. If you are not devoted to attacking a target, roll on the following table at the beginning of your turn each round to see what you do in that round.

D% BEHAVIOR
1–25 Act normally.
26–50 Do nothing but babble incoherently.
51–75 Deal 1d8 + Str modifier damage to self with item in hand.
76–100 Attack nearest creature.

If you can't carry out the indicated action, you do nothing but babble incoherently. Attackers are not at any special advantage when attacking you.

So I have a few questions about this.

Saving throws against Confusion
By my reading, in most cases a person would get two saves before acting confused: one when hit and another at the start of their turn. The only way to not give the second check would be to hit with an Attack of Opportunity or have a Readied Attack.

Is that correct?

Order of operation, spell damage and confusion
Would the spell damage happen before they become confused?

Normally a confused creature will attack the last one who last did damage to it. A Technomancer generally doesn’t want a creature to focus their attacks on them. If the spell causes the creature to always focus on the one who cast the spell, that seems like a problem.

Welcome!

I always do my best to run a friendly game. I want people to have fun and everyone to be able to laugh when something crazy happens.

This is part of a special so it will be critical that we run a fast game.

I really want everyone to be able to post at least once a day, preferably more. If you are going to be away from the game for a short period (such as attending a convention, on a short vacation, or needing to do some business travel), I would ask that you please post that here so everyone involved knows.

Character Profiles

Please have a profile displaying a brief overview of your character's current status. At the least it should include current/maximum hit points, AC (including flat footed and touch), saving throws, and any pools of expendable resources such as panache, grit, arcane pool, rounds of rage, rounds of bardic performance or other things like those that get expended as you use powers.

In the character profile, please include a complete stat block. You may put it under a spoiler if you wish, but if you do so please put it under a single spoiler. I do not want it split across multiple spoilers.

If you have your character sheet on a different site, please have a link to it in your character’s headers.

Since this is a special, I would suggest you as a group come up with some general agreement for when people get botted. Some groups are more comfortable with botting than others.

Please also indicate if you have a preference for who runs your character. If there are resources you don’t mind them using, please say so.

If your character has any abilities that interrupt play such as Swashbuckler Parry and Repost, Dual Cursed Oracle’s Misfortune Revelation, the Bard Spell Saving Finale or any other things that can interrupt the normal sequence to allow an action, modify a check or cause a re-roll, I ask that you have something in your Botting instructions about when you will use this.

Quote:

Sir Cumference waits for the elven archer Mister Oakleaf to get done firing his arrow before charging the Wily Snark.

Attack with Pointy Stick: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

I (and most other PbP GMs) do grouped Initiative in order to keep the adventure moving. In PbP people will have different posting schedules and often live in different time zones, Waiting for posts in order could make a single round of combat take days to resolve. Even in a normal game, that slows things down too much. In a special, you would never have time to complete anything.

Within the rules, it is as if everyone within the same Initiative block delayed until they could post.

Chronicle information

In order to be able to generate a PFS chronicle, I ask that each character please provide me the following information:

Character name:
PFS and character #:
Faction:
Day Job roll (or a note that you have no day job):

Welcome!

I will be running the Starfinder Society scenario The First Mandate as part of Play by Post Game Day VII as part of Session 2.

I will be taking players in the order they sign up provided they create a profile within a few days of signing up. If you are using one of the pre-generated characters, there are already BB Code copies you can just cut and paste into your profile.

I generally expect players to check in a few days before the game starts. This gives me time to find a replacement if someone doesn’t show.

Once I have a Google Slide document up, I will ask you to request edit permissions. I do not like allowing open edit permissions.

4/5 Venture-Agent, Minnesota—St. Louis Park aka BretI

If we take an archetype associated with a group, can we claim we are a member of the group? Pact worlds provided a number of archetypes with mechanics that fit with the associated group(s) but are not necessarily the strongest option.

    Examples

  • Arcanamirium Sage as a member of the Arcanamirium
  • Skyfire Centurion as a member of the Skyfire Legion
  • Star Knight as a member of the Knights of Golarian or the Hellknights
  • Steward Officer as a member of the Stewards

The reason I’m asking:

I have a character that I would like to be a member of the Stewards as well as a Starfinder. They have no infamy and have participated in adventures that should be in line with such a position.

In PFS, there usually was a prestige cost associated with officially joining such a group. I do not know of any such mechanism in SFS.

A related question that others would probably like answered is if taking the archetypes are required for membership.

I was trying to order a scenario that I was going to gift to someone else. I found their ID on the site, but it doesn’t come up when I search for gift recipient. I even tried adding them to my address book, still no luck.

There is a new crit type of Electrocute listed on pg. 192 of Pact Worlds.

I can't find any weapons in that book with this Crit effect, yet the text says "A number of the weapons detailed in this section can impart the following critical effects."

Am I missing something?

Grand Lodge

Howdy!

I’m looking for some advice on my next character for PFS, an Elven Gunslinger/Wizard(Spellslinger)/Eldritch Knight from Alkenstar. Being from there, she knew that magic couldn’t always be depended on, but being an elf she just couldn’t leave it be. There had to be a way to combine magic with these contraptions called guns!

Why Spellslinger? Why elf?

I’m taking Spellslinger and Elf because of the background I’ve created for the character. I have a good idea of what her personality will be and have already named her guns. The musket is named Buster and the Pistol is Billy.

Why Gunslinger?

I’ve never played a Gunslinger before, so I’ll have to beg your pardon if I missed some obvious things.

I’m taking Gunslinger in order to gain Martial Weapons proficiency (required for Eldritch Knight), use craft (gunsmithing) in PFS, and access to the Quick Clear deed. Without that deed, my reading is that it takes an hours work to repair the firearm after it gets the broken condition via Gunsmithing feat. Even if I were to use Mending the casting time on that is 10 minutes, I don’t get cantrips from Spellslinger, and so far I haven’t figured out how many hit points a gun normally has.

I am not sure that Quickclear would take care of the broken condition caused by casting through an arcane gun. The wording on the deed makes me think it would only apply to misfires, not other things that cause the same broken condition.

It looks to be like the powder horn can be used for between combat reloads, while you want alchemical cartridges any time you are reloading in combat. One I have enough spells, reloading should be less of a problem.

The other nice thing is it would give me a second battered gun; the one from Gunslinger and a second from Spellslinger.

So, what are the longer range plans for this character?

I plan to carry a pocket full of low level pearls of power to recover spell slots.

Feats would start with Point-Blank Shot, Precise Shot, and then probably start looking at other things. I am not certain how valuable Rapid Reload would be given much of my primary combat would be spells. At wizard 5 (sixth level) I would go for the Opposition Research arcane discovery in order to recover either Necromancy or Transmution school.

My plan at higher levels is to go into the Eldritch Knight prestige class. It will allow me to regain some BAB and a few bonus feats. Those plans might change as I play the character.

I do look forward to getting her the Endless Bandolero and Gunslinger’s Duster eventually.

Feedback wanted:

Is there anything I’m missing on the starting character?

Is Quick Clear deed as important as I think? If not for that, I would have gone with Mysterious Stranger archetype so grit was off Charisma instead of Wisdom.

Does anyone have a resource listing all the ranged touch, ray, cone and line spells?

I would welcome any constructive criticism on the build.

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I've been looking at Starfinder multi classing, and overall it seems weaker than was available in Pathfinder. I'm assuming that most games never reach level 20, so the capstone abilities at that level don't really matter.

All the classes except Solarian and Soldier need levels in their class in order to gain a better insight bonuses to their skills. Without those increasing insight bonuses, it becomes even more difficult to meet the high skill DCs expected at higher levels.

Mechanics using an Exocortex want the bonus to hit with their weapons and later the exocortex mods and ability to track multiple targets.

Mechanics using a drone would find the drone increasingly underpowered.

Mystics use spells. Missing more than one or two levels of spellcasting is still horrible.

Operatives want the trick attack bonus damage, increased movement, and increased number of attacks on a full attack.

Solarians are going to want Flashing Strikes and triple attack. Those using Solar Weapon are dependent on levels to improve their weapon, while those using Solar Armor would no doubt like the higher protective values.

Soldiers want Soldiers Onslaught in order to make more attacks on a full attack, although those going Hit and Run style would likely find that less critical. They probably suffer the least from multi classing depending on how high level the game is expected to go.

Technomancers use spells. Once again, missing more than one or two levels of spellcasting is horrible.

I can see plenty of possibilities of dips for between one and four levels in different classes. What I don't see is good combinations for going approximately even levels in two classes.

Dips:
Any into Blitz Soldier gets a disproportionate advantage. Many into any type of Soldier would get the weapon proficiencies. They would still end up spending a feat to get versatile weapon specialization, but in some cases saving one feat can be important.

Operative into Solarian for Solar Armor gets +1 AC and +1 damage for just a single level dip. Always stay in Photon mode. I can't see any cases where dipping Solarian for Solar Weapon makes sense.

Mechanic with ExoCortex could dip into Soldier for a few extra feats.

Although it would be tempting for a Mechanic with a Drone to dip Technomancer, they are probably better off in most cases taking the Technomantic Dabbler feat. If they come out with a feat that makes up for a few levels in other classes on the drone like Boon Companion does for Animal Companions in Pathfinder, that would change.

Soldier into Operative to gain some ability with skills, or Envoy to gain some ability to lead.

I've got a character that I would like to build using mainly small arms and operative weapons. I really liked the idea of Fusillade and some of the other options for small arms.

Looking ahead, I am having trouble coming up with a way to keep that as a viable choice. If you are not an operative, it appears the damage will be about half what it would be with advanced melee weapons or longarms.

I even looked at various multi-classing options and still didn't find anything that looked good. The options for multi-classing generally only make small dips in other classes any good. I am not finding many synergies between the classes.

In the past, I've used 3" x 5" hand written index cards to represent items found during an adventure and similar handouts for special conditions.

I've found this helps me as a GM since then I just have characters pass the item cards back to me when they use them. Handing out individual condition/status cards also helps since people aren't trying to share the resource between them.

On the PFS Prep site I've seen where some people have created cards that are the correct size to fit in the CCG sleeves. I find them easier to handle than the index cards.

What is the best way to create something like that? What sort of applications would I need? How tough would it be to create it in something as simple as Google Docs?

As I'm in the middle of preparing to run another special, it would be nice if I could create a set specific to that special. It would help me keep things flowing.

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I am still trying to wrap my head around some of the implicit assumptions in the Starfinder rules.

As a PC, Full Attack is usually better than a single attack but not by a huge margin. The penalty is high enough that you generally are not hitting with both attacks.

NPCs are constructed such that they usually have a better attack modifier than the PCs. A Combatant NPC of CR1 has a +8 while an Expert has +6 and it goes up from there. It also looks to me like it goes up faster than a PC's attack bonus would improve.

A few people have already noticed that recruiting an NPC to fight for your group tends to make the NPC steal the show -- they hit better and potentially harder than the main combatant PCs. Even if below CR, it is possible that they are hitting better than some of the PCs.

Something I haven't seen commented on though is what this means for NPCs using Full Attack. An NPC can Full Attack and still have an equal or better attack bonus than a PC does on a single attack. Combining this with the relatively low armor classes that PCs have you get into a situation where the NPCs are deadly if they are ever allowed to Full Attack.

How are people dealing with this?

The Ominous weapon fusion (pg. 194) says "the weapon gains intimidation as a critical hit effect."

I don't see intimidation listed in the critical effects on pg. 182-183.

So given the no PvP rules of SFS, how should the Arc critical (such as from the Static Arc Pistol, a Level 2 Item) work?

Starfinder CRB, pg. 182 wrote:

Arc

The attack's energy leaps to a second creature. This secondary target must be within 10 feet of your original target and must be the creature closest to the original target (you choose if multiple creatures are equidistant). Roll the amount of damage listed in the weapon's arc—the secondary target takes this damage (not multiplied by the critical hit), of whatever type the weapon deals.

If the other players are all surrounding a target, are you still allowed to fire on it even through you might crit? Does the special of the crit just not activate if it would have hit a player’s character?

As a player, I’ve started putting the Ominous fusion on the static arc pistol so I can substitute a different critical effect. I usually play at least one session without it though because of the additional cost.

The mechanic custom rig can be in one of the following locations:

  • Armor Upgrade slot
  • augmentation data jack (brain)
  • augmentation Eyes
  • augmentation Arm
  • handheld device

By default, the mechanic only has light armor proficiency and there are only a few light armors with armor upgrade slots. Although this may be an attractive alternative for Androids (who get one in themselves), it doesn’t seem like a good option for most.

A mechanic that takes Heavy Armor proficiency has a much easier time giving up an upgrade slot. Most heavy armor has at least one slot, past item level 7 they all have several.

The data jack option seems quite attractive since it can be combined with a data jack, but a starting character is going to have problems affording one. That is only a problem at first level. After that, I imagine most are going to want a data jack of some sort anyways — especially once you can afford the High-Density or Accelerated data jack since they give a bonus to computer skill.

The augmented eye or arm options do not say if they can be combined with the normal augmentations in those locations. At higher levels, being able to combine the rig with a polyhand or wide spectrum ocular implant would be very tempting, but I’m not sure it is allowed.

The only time I could see using the hand held device is at low level because of lack of cash or being Kasatha and wanting to show off why having that many hands is useful.

Anyone see something I might be missing in my analysis?

In the past you used to be able to create session reporting sheets for an event once something has been reported on the event.

I recently created a new event and tried reporting a fake session. It didn't give me a link for reporting sheets. I deleted the session.

I have now reported an actual event and still do not see a link for generating reporting sheets. I don't know if the advent of Starfinder has caused them to change something here or has just been broken for a while.

It was convenient to use the reporting sheets as it would already have our event number at that top.

I would really like it if we could get this function working again.

The description for Cache Capacitor says:

You expand your spell cache into a cache capacitor.

Does this mean you can still use it to cast one extra spell per day, or does the 24 hour spell take the place of being able to use it as a spell cache?
