Kereek the Ninja will scope out what he can. I was also thinking of having Katerina use her Ring of Seven Colors to fly in and investigate. My only concern is that a brightly colored songbird will seem like a marker, or an omen. "You ever notice just before the heroes of Hartsford show up, there's a pretty bird? Is it a warning to change our ways, or an alarm that our enemies have arrived?" Although, that in itself would be cool...

During the day B'yelka is contemplative, maybe a bit pensive. She doesn't have much to say (unusual that...), and when Anton asks for her help she nods, and only says, "Of course, Dear Anton." She spends the next several hours trying to puzzle out how the ritual is supposed to work, and not sure that it entirely makes sense. But I had less to work with and still tried at Schloss Caromarc... She comes to a particular oddly phrased passage, "Anton, does this make sense to you? It says something about Dreams made flesh and breath of one hand clapping." She asks the paladin for interpretations of faith several more times, not sure if she can really do this, "You know, you're the first Desnan I really ever talked to. So many Thrune-esque Diabolists at home. It's simple, though right? Follow your dreams and let other follow theirs? Not nearly so complex as Saranrae." She changes her voice to a mocking Kelish accent, "Heal everyone, unless they are right blasted buggers. Oh, and Rovagug, put the flame to him everytime." Seeing Anton's slight frown at her flippant attitude she merely shrugs, And here we were having so much fun... "Well, let's try this thing, then." UMD, Ritual Scroll: 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 16 + 4 = 29 Setting the wards and calling the sky is strange, the Diva feels like she is under a microscope exposed on the needle-like pinnacle of the ancient temple. Wind whips her short hair but she ignores it. Is it dear Anton watching me that makes me so nervous, or something, someone, else? Still, she recites the prayers, summoning more and more aether into the circle. With each verse the wind calms, the candles are lit, and not a gust disturbs them. A chilling cold settles into her as the gently glowing cloud seems to take on life of it's own. She finishes the words and the candles move of their own accord, rearranging themselves into a wholly new pattern, as if they were telling her of her destiny not just satisfying some silly godling's Naming. Suddenly she draws in a sharp breath and... Well, I beat the UMD check! :D What's gunna happen now? Maybe some Sacred Hand Wash Cream since we have just done all the housework?

Regular drunks Alayna can just drag into an alley, cross collar choke and then back to the red light ;) Alayna takes lunch at the Goblin and then dips out to make sure she is going to be ready for the evening. She finds a dress shop in a none-too-good part of town and spends a few silvers to get a used dress, shorter in front, long in back. A few shades lighter than the original red, too. "Thanks m'Lady, you're a treat" and she heads on back to the Goblin. Once there she takes over one of the siderooms and gets to work. She cuts down strips of cloth here and there, slits open parts of the skirt so she can get under it quicky. Then she sews in a couple of scabbards for her knives and shakes the dress to make sure none fall out. She gathers up her project and heads upstairs, throwing the ruined gown across her bed. This night aint no fun. I need ta be where I can see somethin' other than drunk groping chimpanzees. Regardless, she stands her watch on the catwalk, alert for trouble. Or not. Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Later, she is grinning broadly as she goes to her room and with nary a wash throws on the shabby dress, What a mess! She puts her daggers into the concealed sheaths under her skirt. Alayna tight laces her bodice until her tracts of land are presented closer to her chin than her navel. She musses her hair, using some old Tien chopsticks to kind of hold it up. She smears some grime from the fireplace onto her neck, breasts, cheeks and hands. Looking into the mirror, "Oi, it'd be only two coppers for a'touch and a silver if ya' wan' me ta touch ya back!" Dressed for her night's labor she goes looking for Nessa. When she finds her she asks for some advice, "I thought it best ta ask for a strong eye here. Will I pass for a low-end doxy?" Disguise: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

After Alayna comforts Sylee she sets her back up, "Now, kindling, that did us both good, nae?" The pirate wipes some tears off of Sylee's face and smiles warmly in the gloom of the catwalk. "For Nessa, I cannae say she does or does nae love ya, but she cares. She knows she will have a hard time being the mama ya deserve, but she'll try as hard as the west winds blow, and for as long, too." Standing up she takes Sylee's hand, "See, there she is now - and I think she's comin' ta get ya." As Saul comes up the stairs, Alayna whispers to the girl, "And your secrets are as safe wit' me as they'd be at tha bottom o' Cassomir's Locker." She squeezes the girl's hand as Saul begins his predictable tirade. When he's done, she looks at him and then lashes out at him with her won words. "Yer a damned fool o' a' Cap'n! Yer crew works by loy'lty ta' each other! Yer so damned focused on tha' coin ya could be makin' you forget, it's all o' us that make tha' coin and keep your land lubber arse safe! Ya wanna have at me? Nay, you won't yer a coward an' a thrice-curs'ed fool!" Knowing that she is getting ready to cross a line, she pulls Sylee by the hand to stand behind her, "An' yer too busy puttin' yerself inta' yer strumpets wares ta see wot ya need. Ya need us! I did four laps, 3 in my 2008 Mustang GT, and one in my 2012 Focus ;) It was a brilliant way to spend a weekend with the famiy. Even my 15 year old daughter (that said, "oh, it's going to be hot, noisy and stinky.") decided it was awesome :)
For a slightly different perspective:
And I still played a hell of a lot of 40K. A ridiculous amount. Because it is a FANTASY Game. Not even in the same zip code as reality. But, when I explored Flames of War, I could not tolerate what I perceived as historical inaccuracies. M1 Garands that fired slower, but more accurately than the more commonplace Bolt Action weapons of the day (Enfield, Mauser...). Medium (.30cal) Machine Guns that OUTRANGED Heavy MGs (.50cal) At these simple, egregious, errors I stopped wanting to play the game at all. Why? Because it was made to reflect our history, and it (in my opinion) failed to do so on a fundamental level. TL:DR, if it's fantasy, forget reality. If it's historicals, pray it aint too far off of your perceptions :)

I just had a wonderful and calming thought. For the first time in 20 years I am looking forward to a PERMANENT gaming group! Finally no more "Move, search for a year, play for a year, Move, search for a year, play for a year" Rinse and Repeat. You see, I am retiring from the US Army this fall! :D I am not sure where I will land (we're hoping a job in Maryland pans out) but that is irrelevant. I have always been able to find, or forge, a table top group. Sure, we have to sort a lot of chaff to find the wheat, but it's been a good experience. But the idea of a gaming group that will be steady for *years*? *woot*
Only one question that matters: Are you having fun? If yes: rock on. If no: walk off. If you said you already talked to the guy, and he refuses to play team-mate then there is a PLAYER issue at your table. Keep on if you dig the game *anyway*. Leave if you aren't having fun. For builds, sorry, not interested in PvP. That's why they made WoW.
He is not scared of the PC. He is shaken by the PC's "Prowess". The (combat) intimidated Barbar is SHAKEN. Nothing more, nothing less. Now, how would a Barbar that has been shamed react? Face/Axe comes to mind. Use intim at your own peril. In Non-Combat situations, Intim can force a NPC to behave 'Friendly' for a short time. However, after that all bets are off. Maybe the NPC has friends and does not like to be made a fool of. And, is keen on making an example of people that bully or insult him... Again, use Intimidate at your own peril.
You are feeling pinched because you are a one trick pony. You need to open up your repertoire. If *you* do not, then *you* have accepted the (perceived) nerfing of your character. Wraith makes the salient point:
Wraithstrike wrote: Making a caster who only uses one type of spell, a person who refuses to use a ranged weapon, one who refuses to use a melee weapon, even for flavor reasons is generally a bad idea.
Think of I this way: Each Exotic weapon has its own rules. They may doing better base damage (d10 v d8, when comparing Bastard Sword to Long Sword), they may do better crits (Falcata compared to Long Sword) or they may allow you to apply Weapon Finesse to a high threat two hander! But, at the end of the day, they *only* do what they say they do. Otherwise we could make logical leaps like "Well, it says immune to Fire and Acid burns are a form of oxidation so clearly immunity to fire means acid too. And Electrical burns... so immune to electricity as well..."

Reflex Save; Blind Dex Pen: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 2 = 21 Nasrin hears the tell-tale fizzing of Greyston's grenade. Almost instinctively she starts to leap back, however, her feet are tangled in the ruined tarp and she falls down hard on her butt. Still screaming and slashing with her scimitar she is miraculously untouched by the explosion. Having rolled a 20 ( :D ) I figured something more dramatic was in order. Still, she takes 3, leaving her with 13/19 HP
For the Paladin. Sometimes the difficult thing is choosing a Hard Right. Calling X's loyalty to family what it is: An excuse to harbor evil in the hearth. For the sake of the Paladin's Honor (a key tenant of Iomadae, no?) he may have to forsake his own love (that is, MAKE A SACRIFICE!!!) to protect some greater morality. If "A" Truly TRULY TRULY loves the Paladin they will always be there for them. "Your heart is breaking, and mine breaks with you, though you don't know it" kind of shtick. They may never 'ride into the sunset' they do remain devoted friends and that is a kind of love, too. But, back to X. And the paladin. Everything X lives amongst is evil. Salvery, Devil Worship. That kind of exposure will adjust the sight picture for X. Suddenly, a vigourous torturing of a wayward/willful servant is seen as "Well, they deserved it for not following instructions." You see, LAW without Mercy or Justice can be too easily twisted into Evil. Especially when law can be written to be an avenue for Evil. "Slaves Can be tortured to Death as they have no lives, save what their Master provides." Sounds good, yeah? And I am still VERY VERY confused as to how Hellknights are not LE through and through. "We model our lifestyles on Hell itself. But, trust us, we're good guys!"

She drops over the edge of the platform, still invisible, and she realizes she is crying. Tears, real tears are streaming down her cheeks as she lets go. A surreal moment slides by as she drifts to the roof. The monstrosity of monsters stitched together thrashes and it's misshapen head uttering moans as it tears apart two of her friends. Her mind drifts with her, in a different direction. Dantrian has always been there when I needed him...but Kendra has her Janos, and I promised to bring him home. Because it is not cool when Joe rolls 18, 17, 17, 17, 17, 15 while Jim is stuck with 14, 13, 10, 8, 6, 5. Players like to see that their PCs are *capable* and when you have huge differences in stats, between PCs, one of the players is gunna feel left out.
