As Yoltzin and Djack tend to the souls of the lost Elias busies himself with more earthly concerns. He returns to the unconscious creatures, binds them using spare horse tackle from the cart and does his best to wake the least damaged looking one.

Healing... maybe?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

"Spizz you're the flames guy, can you do anything about this?"

Elias heads towards the village at a run.

"Anyone about?! We can help!"

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Don't suppose we're next to a large river with plentiful buckets are we?

Charge(non-lethal): 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 9 + 2 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

If damage is caused then free intimidate, shaken for one round per point of damage caused
Intimidate: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

if intimidated, swift action attack; if successful, shaken ends.
Charge(non-lethal): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Keeping alongside Djill, Elias bounds forward once again and strikes at the creature before him, aiming for limbs and extremities to try and disable the creature so that it can be 'talked' with later.

Moments behind Rocko, Quince Barrels in.

Charge at the studied one, ending up stood over Djill's victim.
Charge(non-lethal): 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 9 + 2 + 1 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 = 13

If damage is caused then free intimidate, shaken for one round per point of damage caused
Intimidate: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 9 + 1 = 24

if intimidated, swift action attack; if successful, shaken ends.
Charge(non-lethal): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 = 12

"Wait.... Yoltzin, take the one at the back, make them think we're behind them. Spizz, soon as Yoltzin takes the shot can you give them a light show. That'll be our cue Rocko"

Elias looks around, somewhat surprised at his own taking charge...

Studying the front rightmost on the map

Elias starts forward but pauses, knives drawn.
He longs to charge over and help his new friend but knows that defeats the object of sending in Djack alone, he needs to trust now. Djack knows what the situation is. Give us a sign

Barely blinking, he watches Djack.

"Yoltzin, how close do you need to be to take out those things?"

Can we see whats occurring through the trees?

"I hope you are right Wings-of-Thunder, I hope that the threat we are facing is just us landlings fighting amongst ourselves. But I am also worried that the threat we are seeking to thwart is infact a threat to all, to the seas and the land, and yes, even to the skies. You have my word that I will fight for your folk as strongly as I will fight for my own, but I would dearly like to be able to get a warning to you if you are in peril. Is there any way we can contact you again?"

Elias takes a moment to appraise himself of this new creature, before stepping forward. and clearing his throat

Studied target then sense motive
Sense motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

"Let's see what I can mess up here..."
"I am Elias Quince, of the lands North-East. But one so keen of sight as you has doubtless seen us approaching from afar. We are on a quest Wings-of-Thunder, to save the world we believe. We have opposed unnatural foes that twist the natural order of life and death in the marshes and now we move on to the next part of our journey. We know little of the lands ahead of us, but for certain we mean you and your eyrie no harm."

He maintains eye contact with the beast and holds his height, finishing with a deferential bow, eyes still locked.

"Rocko, you know anything about these types? I've heard tales of The Eagles of the mountains, some say they can talk and give good advice, some say they'll rip your head off to feed to their chicks on sight. Some say both."

Elias keeps his eyes to the sky

Elias' morning is full of aches. Being close to death has a cost, no matter the magic expelled to heal you. Riding on the wagon he bought from Albarra with anyone that cares to join him, he rubs at his ribs where the creatures blade had bitten.

A particularly deep rut jars the wagon and metallic clang resounds from the wagon bed. Elias glances back to check his cargo, the blade and helm of the Skeleton are safe where he stowed them.

Pious would have taken the skull, managed to resist that at least.

As the party pauses at the edge of the mountains,

"Onwards and literally upwards." Djack and Djill go up the hill...

Elias' view is somewhat moot at this point

Constitution: 1d20 ⇒ 3

Elias squares with Raymundo, blades en guard ready to duel, before his body realises the skeletons last blow. He sinks to his knees and then falls face down on the rough floor.

At -5HP and counting :) I'll start rolling stats...

Noice! Thank you!

Reposition: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

"She making a run for it, I don't much fancy being trapper in her menagerie. Yoltzin, shut the doors!"

Elias rushes over to the doorway and tries to shove The Skeleton out, it seems to be blocking the doors

Move to behind Yoltzin, beside Spizz. "Reposition" as standard to push Raymundo out of the door.

Reposition: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

"Don't let her out!"

I was due that to be fair!

Ducking behind Rocko, Elias lunges at the witch as she is distracted by the wolf.

Attack(Power Attack, Flank): 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 2 = 30
Confirm?: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 2 = 27
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
+crit damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Can Elias 5ft step next to Rocko to attack the witch? Looks like there's some kind of bench so not sure if its traversable.

"Old lady, you need to stop this, NOW!"

Let's see how this goes...
Elias knows he needs to get to the old lady, he doesn't know where to cut things that don't have flesh. He kicks at the creature's knee, trying to bring it down.

Trip: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Raymundo gets an AoO. If he goes down I'll move into the cottage to get as close as possible to the old lady, if not I'll step to map south of Raymundo to allow Yoltzin an easy flank

I'm loving the fairytale themes, between Djack and Djill, The witch in the forest (Elias may or may not try to lick a wall). Fingers crossed for climbing vines to a gigantic demiplane. :)

Elias takes a few steps back, preparing an ill advised heroic rescue leap through a closed window, when something makes him turn.

"We've got company! ...More company I mean!"

He makes a dash towards the front of the house, double move not wanting to be cornered on his own

Just incase this comes up in any kind of judicial enquiry, I'd like to state my objection to the term "provoked"

Don't worry about it, Elias is a man of action! Just got to wait for initiative...

Am I right in saying that Elias cannot in fact see what is going on in the house now that Raymundo has moved into the main part of the cottage?

Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Elias falls over the candle stick...

Elias leans in close to the window and taps a finger lightly on the glass in front of the skeleton's face. His other hand is poised to draw his knives.

@Rando is necromancy intrinsically evil in this world? and would our characters necessarily know that?

I can see Elias thinking it is pretty cool to have an animated skeleton companion/friend around.

Weird place to keep a statue, facing the window

Elias approaches closer, hoping to get a closer look at the armoured skeleton "statue" and get a glimpse at what might be in the back rooms

Elias won't follow inside just yet.
Ostensibly caring for his horse, but really waiting for a chance to have a better look around.
When Djack and the old lady enter the house he takes his chance to have a snoop around the property.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Elias' heart sinks a little as Rocko speaks the truth he's been denying. It was the end of the road for the wagon. He puts a hand on the horse's flank.

"It'd good to try and keep 'em, if we can. She's Been good to us."
A moment later his normal joviality returns
"Besides, how else are we going to cart back our hoards of gold!"

I'll do my best

Turning back, Quince realises that in his freshly awoken rush he's left this comrades to fend for themselves, he rushes back to stab at the creature menacing the elf.

Move to flank
Attack(Power): 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

5ft step to north of the zombie Elias is fighting, so Djack can get the flank with a 5ft step if I can't take it down this round

Elias deftly cuts with both his blades, stepping around the creature in front of him and tearing across the creatures torso.

Attack, Mainhand, Power, Lethal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Attack, Offhand, Power, Lethal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Attack, Confirm Crit?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Sorry for the radio silence folks, still here!

Elias moves with Djack, mirroring his run, slicing at one of the creatures. This time he does not pull his blows, something is very off with these creatures.
Charge the hostile above the one Djack Kebabed, lethal

Charge attack/Power: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 9 + 2 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Do we have negatives to hit from the low light, Elias has just got his human eyes

As a small gathering starts to form outside the Friendly Mesa and Djack is offering Spizz a place on his saddle, the sound of hooves on packed earth threatens the arrival of another.

Around the corner comes Elias, stood on the seat of a worn but sturdy enough wagon pulled by a horse that is flitish and unruly, its harness is a good enough fit but has clearly been inexpertly fastened and is irritating the poor creature. You've seen little of Elias since your return, he's been about town, gathering rumor and trading favours to-and-fro

"I know some folks, owe some folks, and I'm owed by more. And now none of us has to walk"

He is grinning like a child.

Would Elias be able to procure a light wagon and a light horse (50gc + 75gc = 125gc) in town before we leave?

HP: 1d10 ⇒ 3 ...joy.

Level up complete

Sorry, had end of year essays to mark so I've been snowed under this week. Just finished my last one. I'll get levelled up tomorrow.

As for purchases, like Uret my eye is always drawn to the pricey shineys! I'll probably save most for now. I'd definitely pay my share of a wand though.

I'd vote for heading out into the wilds once we're all ready.

As the bizarre chicken creature is somewhat distracted by Djack, Quince lays in with his blades, striking at tendons and muscles, trying to disable the creature.

Attack(Power, Main hand, nonlethal flank): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 = 9
Attack(Power, Off hand, nonlethal flank): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 = 23

Assume one miss, if the other hits...
Damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
if hit, and intimidate succeeds, shaken for rounds equal to damage taken

Know:local: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Elias is inclined to agree with Djack.

"Onwards and upwards?"

Vote for pressing on and checking other options on the way back.

dry flour you say?

"You got something better to be doing Rocko?"

Elias wanders into the room and begins moving through the cases, trailing a finger through the dust looking for anything that seems interesting.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 +2 if there's gems, gold, trade goods etc etc

Agreed

As a pause slips itself into the conversation between Djack and Yoltzin, Elias adds his piece

"There is a difference. There's attacking something because its bigger than you and doesn't talk proper, and there's ridding the world of child-eaters."

He absently sharpens his knives.

"To take a life is a big deal. Not to be taken lightly. But not to be afraid of. We can't shrink from what is right."

I guess we'll see what Caprone has to say

Elias waves with a fixed smile as the ogre leaves.

"next time I'm bullsh**ing somebody, someone do me a favour and bop them on the head or something. I thought I was going to have to write a book for him there"

Sorry for the delay folks

"Yorg, don't play stupid. He said you were the smartest Ogre in these parts he wasn't wrong, was he? He needs you to go and see him personally, said he had a job that needed brains and muscle, you're the only... man for the job. Seemed like he was in a hurry too, I wouldn't keep him waiting."

"Oh you're here at last."

Elias surreptitiously kicks awake anyone who is still resting.

"We've been waiting long enough. We're ordered here to check on you, and you keep us waiting! What's the meaning of it?"

Bluff: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

Spizz' antics breaks the uncomfortable silence that had been growing. With a laugh that would be more appropriate in a bar Elias steps into the room after the Kobold and seizes a pair of forge tongs, clacking them at Spizz like the jaws of a beast.

"Spizz the mighty, who left when others feared to stray, protector of cows, hero of the atoll, cat-scorcher, and spider-boiler, wielder of the great-axe."

He tries to remember all the tales that Spizz had recounted on the walk over.

"Here, in the forge of doom you will meet your end, you've eaten your last whole sheep. Then I, Evil von Badguy will rule the world!"

He lunges towards Spizz, still clacking the tongs

Happy to move on if others are. Did Quince manage to get any venom?

"Hmm, I'm up for trying."

Quince uses a knife to lift one of the mandibles and then tries to squeeze the appendage in such a way that venom is encouraged out.

Heal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

He looks furtively at Djack, worried about what might happen if something goes wrong.

'Still travelling with us'? Does she mean he's going to die?!

"You good Djack? We can sit arround waiting for you forever!"

Bluff: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Perfection! Elias does a very poor job of pretending not to care about Djack

"Seems a shame to waste it? Rocko, anything useful we can do with this thing? Spizz, what did you people do once you killed these things?"

He kicks the carcass of the spider to emphasize his point.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

"Nice job team, I think we could get jobs as pest control if nothing else"

He moves round the dead spider to check on Djack

"You took a stomach full there, how are you doing?

Heal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Lets just take a moment to commemorate Rocko's changing luck, many happy returns!

Skirting the wall, Elias takes up position opposite Djack and slashes at the creature.

Power Attack/Flank/Non-lethal: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 2 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Free Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 Shaken for 9 Rounds (or amount of damage caused)
