Darakwinn cleans herself and her armor up. Given her profession, her armor is the equivalent of a 3 piece suit, and she stands at military attention as she prepares for her turn to participate in the presentation.

When her turn comes up, she partially agrees with and partially disagrees with Floota.

"Specialists are assuredly necessary to purge the dark magics that infest the asteroid but I cannot condone destroying it after what we found. The final resting place of a great hero, the suffering and defiance of the trox slaves, even the misguided but innovative creations of the duergar deserve to be studied and remembered," she says.

She is careful to modulate her tone and words with regard to both what she's seen of their audience's reactions and how they react to her words.

I think you did a good job. The pace was good and the descriptions of the action were good.

And, of course, I always enjoy when people play along with my Shenanigans so calling the last bad guy Alice was much appreciated.

I will admit that the Something in the smoke and steam bit left me wondering what was going on and anticipating an ambush that never happened. The only critique I will give to that part is that I don't remember it being resolved and I wondered if it was more/different opponents or neutral watchers or what. A post saying that the other lice scatter after the first ones are defeated or that they swarm the place where we were after we move on would be good.

Also, the skill challenge was pretty seamless. It felt like a skill challenge that would be in the adventure.

Seeing that mental attacks are not going to work, and watching it smash one of her summoned allies into so much dust and rubble, Darakwinn says:

She's not sure if Alice has a mind, but if it does, she makes a piercing thrust at it.

Darakwinn gives a nod of thanks to Vega, coughing a bit more before focusing. Fighting against the urge to hack in the middle of it, she offers up a prayer for assistance to Angradd. With no weaknesses evident, she simply summons creatures that are good at brawling.

"Return to the miserable fate from whence you have wrested yourself, Alice!" Why does Darakwinn call the creature Alice? Because her player secretly hopes "Alice" comes to replace "Creature" in the Round summaries.

She summons up a razor-sharp spinning circle. Close examination indicates that it is actually axes made of pure force spinning so fast that they blur together.

She hurls it at "Alice."

Only then does she study it to try to figure out what reinforcements would best be summoned to deal with it.

She makes her way down toward the crude forge that has been created. "Do you think it was intended to mimic the other one?" she says.

It is surely too primitive to actually duplicate the Solarian Forge's abilities.

"There's something weird here. Trox, despite their appearance, are generally peaceful and native to a moon around Liavara. Early on, they had some capacity for space travel and explored the Pact Worlds. Unfortunately, sometimes that meant they ran across some bad folks who enslaved them. Understandably, that means they're usually vehement opponents of the practice," she says as she sees the dead trox.

"But what is really weird is that they're tough and good diggers, so it's hard to believe living trox would die from getting buried."

Though much of what they find only reveals more about the Duergar, Darakwinn is ever more pleased that they didn't end up just blasting this rock from orbit.

Disappointed, but largely in herself for not proving worthy of freeing the hammer, Darakwinn nods to Balin. "May Angradd bless your hand while you wield it," she says.

"More light couldn't hurt," she says, even though she can see in the dark, it is limited in range and being able to see danger coming is always a benefit.

She heads over to the other control room to fully explore it before moving on to the doors at the other end of the catwalk.

Darakwinn handles the dwarven remains reverently, finding a safe spot in the control room. As they prepare for Aphelion to use his Solarion abilities to reactivate the Solarion stone, she stands just outside the door of the control room with her pike ready.

She nods to the Solarion thankfully to indicate her readiness for him to help bring this site that has proven so special to her ancestry back online and says an extensive prayer for guidance and assistance to Angradd.

"Yes. There's a difference," Darakwinn growls as though that fact should be obvious and she's offended that there's a question about it, though she does not deign to explain.

Instead she examines the body. What begins as a casual search grows more intense and rapid, her expression growing more filled with cautious wonder and awe the whole time.

"By Angradd's strong right arm!" she declares as she notes that his clothing comes from the first century after the gap and she finds a hidden badge on him. "I think this might be Avaldur Rhols, alegendary dwarven peacekeeper of the decades following the Gap prior to the Stewards’ creation.

"His name was a byword for relentless investigation and tireless justice.

"He disappeared during a mission at about the time of the Pact Worlds’ foundation in 41 ag, and his implied death has been the subject of conspiracy theorists ever since!"

"We have to get these remains genetically tested to confirm the body’s identity!

"To think, we thought about blowing this place up without exploring it!"

Darakwinn is a warrior but not a savage. The victory is theirs, she sees little need in slaughtering a fleeing opponent that is unlikely to be a threat in the future.

She waits long enough to be relatively sure it's not coming back before turning her attention back to the crucible.

Darakwinn squints against the heat and haze, glad that she has her environmental seals active to protect her from some of it.

"Angradd preserve us," she mutters as she spots the crucible and can already tell a little of how badly damaged it is. She doesn't know much about fixing things, but she's ready to add her muscle to the effort as she starts marching toward it.

"This thing has cultural, religious and technological significance," she tells the rest of the group. "It's actually a good thing it didn't get nuked from orbit."

"Given the dwarven construction the duergar have tried to overwrite and erase, I'd say it's been here since some time during the Gap which means that there's probably more information and technology of historical significance here."

Keeping a wary eye on the lava bubbling below them, Darakwinn makes her way carefully to the center of the platform as Aphelion searches the other room.

"Found the hammer!" she shouts for the benefit of the rest of the group.

If Loxx is expecting thanks, he'll be disappointed. Darakwinn just glares at him.

"I had it," she growls, though that statement seems patently false.

She moves very carefully (and not too gracefully) to get off the roof.

Before they move on to the other control room, she takes a look at the instructional hologram.

Darakwinn doesn't resist at all. Once she actually reads what the button does, she slaps it.

Which may be why the mechanism jams. Muttering something about the shoddiness of Duergar engineering, she takes a deep breath, steels herself, then lurches out into the open area over the lava.

After easily clambering up on top of the control room, she starts kicking the canister with both feet.

"It's important for everyone to know why they're here," Darakwinn says with a nod.

"So just hit this switch?" she asks, indicating the controls that she thinks will launch the fire-retardant canister.

Are there skill checks associated?

She sees the super heated gas rise and is glad that they at least have protection from that, even if she's still pretty sure they'll get cooked like crispy and juicy chicken if the lava surrounds this chamber.

Normally, Darakwinn would stay outside under the principal that jamming everyone into a single room is a good way to get them all exploded at once.

But, that lava does, indeed, look very dangerous. Not that she expects a room to be able to provide a lot of protection against it, but it's better than just standing outside for it.

"Hey! You look like you know your way around a keyboard," she says to Vega. "Can you hack this thing? Maybe there's some kind of controls to deal with the lava."

Darakwinn knows the importance of unit cohesion and follows the rest of the group to the chamber. She doesn't know much about locks, though so she stays towards the back, pike ready and keeping an eye out for any threats that might try to approach from the rear.

"Any ideas how to make the lava inactive?" Darakwinn asks, drawing her pike but not yet marching out onto the platform.

She likes fighting in the name of Angradd but getting burned up by lava is not on her list of to-dos.
