Hi! Brady is a level 6 Brawler that--as a member of The Exchange--has some journal card reasons to play scenarios that feature the Aspis Consortium; I'd love to submit him for consideration. He is 6.0, so will be level 7 only for the last scenario in this run. Brady is available for all 4 of these scenarios; I've only ever played one of them, but it was a CORE run so creates no conflicts.

I have played 6-98, so will be able to bring a Chronicle sheet from that to the final scenario of this run.

Sorry, Brady was specifically built as a mooch or wook (depending on what subcultures you're exposed to, those may or may not make sense); it wouldn't be in-character for him to contribute to Shayna's expenses.

I'll have to have him pass.

Brady checks with the dwarves before readying to head back upstairs. "Is there anything you need, here? I think we're going to want to hit the ground running as soon as we get upstairs; we don't know what might be waiting for us outside, though the ship is close. We have to collect the body of a colleague so that we can return her, and we still have to deal with Holy Ahendile."

He turns to Akito, and Kra'ak and Wisp when they return. "I don't like what that demon--or devil, or whatever it was--I don't like what it said before it left. 'I saw you; I bore witness.' It clocked us good--and so did Holy Ahendile, of course. It may best to leave as few witnesses to what we did here as possible."

"If there are no objections, my recommendation is that we don't give them an option to testify to our presence here. I'll do the dirty work, if you agree; I don't mind."

To be clear, Brady is proposing that we kill Holy Ahendile and her goons on our way out.

I didn't challenge things when it happened in game, and wasn't looking to create an argument. Just sharing what I found and learned.

Brady moves gingerly back across the grease, annoyed by the evasion of the flying critter. He strikes with a single focused punch.

Actions:

He studies the new foe briefly, then steps out of the grease as he waits for the lemures to approach.

Brady, recognizing what must be one of the envoys they were looking for, begins fumbling with the keys to get the cell door open as quickly as possible.

Sorry Kra'ak, Brady had already picked up the keys.

"Are you Rakuska Ingardam? We've been looking for you. I was sure you'd been taken far away, we're grateful to find you so close. Please, tell us what happened; we'll get you unchained in no time."

"Kra'ak, I think you probably know more about locks and traps, so why don't you double-check my work. Not my specialty; I break 'em down if I can't open 'em."

Brady's more confident in his investigation of the east door; so that's his vote for direction.

"I'm not so good at being quiet, so I'll stay a bit back, but I can see in the dark as well as any of you," Brady points out, picking up the talisman the false priest was wearing. "Well, we don't know what any of this does, but they were all wearing it, so we might as well spread it around and see if it can't help us against something." He pins the talisman to his chest and points to the cloak. "I'm claiming the talisman as rewards for taking her down. I already weak a cloak of resistance, and at least I know what that is. If anyone else doesn't wear one, I recommend donning that. It could be the same, or something different or better. Let's use their tools."

He pockets any of the magic items that go unclaimed or unused, so they can be returned to the Society later.

Brady climbs down to retrieve Akito, undoing his bonds and helping him climb out. He regroups with the others, grateful to see the Kra'ak has awoken. "Okay, status report. Is everyone okay?" His eyes grow dark. "Everyone expect Shayna, of course," he continues, eyes downcast. He pauses before continuing. "I could use some more healing if anyone can use this," he says, pulling out a wand of cure light wounds.

Keeping an eye out for any other interest in their activities, when everyone is healed up and healthy, he proposes continuing on. "We still have some investigating to do; I think we start where I found Akito, down below the baths."

Brady gathers with Wisp near Kra'ak. "Are they going to be okay?" he asks Wisp, clearly not wanting to accept yet that one of their allies here won't be able to rise again... at least not without further aid from Pathfinders who aren't here.

Once Wisp has activated magical healing for him, Brady returns to the Razmirans, and drags them one by one to his room. He fishes in his backpack for a coil of rope, and begins tying them up, taking a moment to don his armor along the way. He makes sure that all three have gags to prevent them calling for aid later, too.

If moving and/or tying the Razmirans up risks waking them up, please let me know so I can adjust actions.

He then turns his attention to Shayna, silently moving her back into her room, and laying her out neatly to later collect her body.

"Akito. Akito! Where's Akito?"

"Shut. Up." is all Brady says, now horrifyingly calmly, as he kicks the false cleric repeatedly. The kicks are powerful, but something in the admonition must have made an impact, as Brady seems again to only be striking to subdue.

"Haha," Brady chuckles at the order, sardonically. "Yeah, that's likely." Without missing a beat, he methodically steps forward and begins pummeling the Razmiran and his load.

Actions:

Swift: exploit weakness vs light red

Full round: full attack vs. red (2nd strike on Holy Alendile if red falls to 1st strike)

Exploit weakness, Wisdom vs. 10+CR: 1d20 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 5 = 9

+1 unarmed strike, brawler's flurry, power attack: 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 11 - 2 - 2 = 14 +2 if exploit weakness successful

Based on my recent research into picking up Shayna, I'll point out that a Med or Heavy load imposes a Max Dex limit that could lower the Razmiran's AC. Just trying to eek out anything I can here! This is one of the tightest spots Brady's been in.

Brady's voice emerges from the bedroom. "Good idea, Kra'ak, but we can't just leave Shayna lying there!" And you're a kobold, you'll never be able to carry her. Ugh! Why do you keep giving a shit about these people! You could've just jumped out that window, dude, and saved yourself. Now, you're probably just going to get killed like the dumb dummie you are.

Actions:

Standard: total defense

Brady is going to try to pick up or drag Shayna next round. I reviewed the lifting and dragging rules from Carrying Capacity, and I don't see anything that states what effect dragging has on encumbrance and thus Max Dex to AC, speed, etc. Does that mean that if Brady drags Shayna away next round, instead of picking her up and carrying her, he would incur no penalties? Also, can you rule on whether carrying Shayna would put Brady at Med or Heavy encumbrance? Without his armor and backpack, Brady is currently carrying 31.5 lbs of a 133 lb light load, up to 266 for med and 400 for heavy.

Carrying Capacity wrote:

Lifting and Dragging: A character can lift as much as his maximum load over his head. A character’s maximum load is the highest amount of weight listed for a character’s Strength in the heavy load column of Table 7–4.

A character can lift as much as double his maximum load off the ground, but he or she can only stagger around with it. While overloaded in this way, the character loses any Dexterity bonus to AC and can move only 5 feet per round (as a full-round action).

A character can generally push or drag along the ground as much as five times his maximum load. Favorable conditions can double these numbers, and bad circumstances can reduce them by half or more.

Well, I hate to say this then, but you've just made my blacklist.

Unfortunately, you were picking up a run of Emerald Spire that I'm in. I was grateful for that, and now we're set back looking for a new GM again, but if you're going to ragequit this game over an error that you made, endangering the rest of the party--again, over an error YOU made--then I can't play with you there either.

If you'll allow a dissenting opinion, this is the 3rd GM we've had for this scenario. It's not fair to say that GM supervillian ambushed you; GM supervillian rescued this game. I certainly understand that it's frustrating, but it's not GM supervillian's fault that two GMs before him didn't catch the error. And again, while frustrating, it sounds like he's resolving it by the rules; that's not his fault.

Please, give this a night to think over, and strongly consider sticking with us. It's better than earning a 0 xp chronicle over a hasty exit.

OK, that's certainly disappointing. I understand your frustration.

We're in a tight spot here. Would you reconsider and continue playing your PC, though? Your actions--however nerfed they may be--still help us each round. You are currently a flanking foil for Kraak, helping him get what sneak attack damage he can.

The whole table is hurt by this, but we're hurt even more if you leave. We still need you.

What was the build mistake? Unless it's pretty extreme, you can usually just stop using the affected ability to continue the current session, then use retraining to correct it afterwards.

Brady withdraws a flask from his vest, drinking the contents down quickly, then picks up his shield, alert to trouble from the hallway.

Actions:

Standard: drink infused extract of cure moderate wounds (CL 4)
Move: pick up shield

cure moderate wounds (CL 4): 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (8, 8) + 4 = 20 !!!

Infused Extracts: You claimed a number of a dead alchemist’s infused extracts during the Sargava Chalice, which you can use at any time in the future. As a standard action that provokes attacks of opportunity (as drinking a potion), you gain one of the following benefits. When you have used a given benefit, check the adjacent box, indicating that the extract has been expended. Abilities that allow you to drink potions more quickly or without provoking attacks of opportunity affect this boon, though abilities that alter the effects of a consumed potion (such as the extend potion alchemist discovery or the alchemical allocation spell) do not.

Brady, recognizing that he can't keep this up any longer, darts back into his room so he can regroup, with one final loud bang of his fist on Shayna's door.

Actions:

Full round: withdraw 15'

The bang on door is just for RP flavor, no action associated with it.

"No thanks; I prefer to make my own mercy," Brady says, simply. Without looking away, he pounds his fist hard on Shayna's door, adding "Some help here, NOW!" at full volume before striking hard--but carefully--at the thug in front of him.

Actions:

Not sure how much of an action it is to pound on the door, though the yell is clearly a free action. If the pounding is free or immediate (or swift?), Brady follows up with a full round attack with brawler's flurry. If the pounding is a move action, then the attack is just a standard action with no flurry. I think all possibilities are covered below.

Doing only nonlethal damage currently; even Brady understands what happens to cop-killers, especially when the cops are corrupt.

Free/Immediate/Move?: pound on Shayna's door
Free: yell for Shayna
Full round/Standard: attack light red
5' step over light red if light red falls

+1 unarmed strike, power attack: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 11 - 2 = 20 -2 if brawler's flurry as a full round action
Damage, B/nonlethal, power attack: 1d8 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 4 = 14

Ignore if attack is a standard action
+1 unarmed strike, power attack, brawler's flurry: 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 11 - 2 - 2 = 25
Damage, B/nonlethal, power attack: 1d8 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 4 = 13

Just go back to bed, man. You don't have to get mixed up in anything you don't want to... Brady thinks, but something in his conscience pulls him along. He opens the door, surveys the scene, and speaks up.

"Hey, what's the problem here? That's my friend you've got bundled up there. You better start explaining or we're going to have a problem here."

Actions:

Move: open door
Free: speak
Swift: exploit weakness vs. white
5' step
Standard: readied knockout attack if white attacks or starts casting a spell/spell-like ability

Wisdom, exploit weakness vs. CR: 1d20 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 5 = 11

+1 unarmed strike, power attack: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 11 - 2 = 29 +2 if exploit weakness successful
Damage, B, power attack: 1d8 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 4 = 12 bypasses DR if exploit weakness successful
Knockout: Fort DC 16 or fall unconscious

Crit?: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 11 - 2 = 14 +2 if exploit weakness successful
Crit damage: 1d8 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 4 = 17 bypasses DR if exploit weakness successful

If he has actions for it, Brady would also pound loudly on Shayna's door after he strikes, if his attack is triggered.

We have an abandoned session of 5-01 The Glass River Rescue that needs a replacement GM. GM Baerlie originated this session for GameDay IX, and was replaced shortly after the start by EM±GM, who has sadly now disappeared as well. We're looking at over a month since the last GM post.

Can anybody help? We have a legal table of players still looking to finish this scenario. We most recently arrived at the inn on the river.

Okay, so that's more than a week with no answer now.

Let's do a roll-call and see if we even still have a full table here. If we still have four or more players ready to continue, I'll place a call for a replacement GM in Flaxseed.

Here!

@EM±GM, do we need to look for another replacement GM?

Full transparency here: I don't want to. You're my favorite GM on these boards, and I was thrilled when you picked this game up. But we've been stalled for three weeks now.

"Meh, I ain't treating with no princes anytime soon; the bath can wait. I'll take one of those nice beds, though, if'n you don't mind," Brady says, requesting one of the lavish rooms.

Brady has the Slush Fund faction reward, so the lodging shouldn't cost him anything in the long run.

"What'd you say, River Kingdoms? Numeria?" he asks the pair of kitsune. "Bah, I don't care 'bout the details, so long as I get the coin I was promised," he laughs.

"Caravan would need a place to stop to rest and resupply--just as we do tonight--and, well, maybe you're it!" he concludes, dangling this verbal carrot of future potential commerce in front of the ladies of the inn.

@Wisp, indeed, there are some Exchange-y things on my journal card about recruiting merchants, but Brady has checked them all already. Thanks for the heads-up, though; I appreciate someone looking out for me that way.
