Boftil Badamber's page

A heads up that I will be heading out on a family holiday from 11 December and returning on 19 December. We will be on an island cruise with no internet access during this time.

It feels like we are approaching the end of the game, but in case Boftil is needed for any more checks or contributions, please go ahead and bot him as you see fit.

"Sure, we can 'forgive' you, for what it's worth...although speakin' from experience, the bigger question is can you forgive yourself? You're the one who will have to carry the burdens of your actions, not us." Boftil responds, an earnestness and weary resonating in his deep voice.

"Hang in back there!" Boftil grunts back to those engaged with Ilzinian. "Once we deal with his missus, we'll come back and deal with that shady bugger!"

The dwarf steps forward behind Jahz and takes another couple of swings with 'Regret' past the big half-orc. As the huge hammer whistles through the air, he calls out almost as a late after thought. "Oh yeah, big guy...DUCK!"

"What's that treacherous bastard doin' back there?" Boftil grunts back to the others dealing with Ilzinian, while turning his rage towards the allip with a swing of his magical hammer, 'Regret'.

"Knew there'd be some more spooks lurkin' around here somewhere!" Boftil's inate fear and distrust of the undead is once again channeled into a growing rage at the fiends.

Boftil follows along behind the beady-eyed Tengu, glancing anxiously back from the curtain to the mangled bodies on the floor as if expecting them to suddenly rise and attack.

"More bloody mazes? Did whoever made this place ever think of just installin' simple halls and rooms like normal dungeon designers?" Boftil grumbles as he helps navigate through the tunnels.

Boftil just mutters under his breath as he grips his hammer tightly. Clearly not a big fan of otherworldly apparitions he shuffles uneasily on his feet as the others start to talk to the unnatural thing.

"Another bloody maze?" Boftil grumbles. "Are we sure haven't just doubled around and gone back in the same blasted one?"

Boftil moves in to take a swing at the last ghost.

"What infernal nonsense is this?" Boftil grumbles as the rest of the group start to dance with the ghosts. "I didn't know I was stuck with a buncha ghost lovin' freaks! There's only one thing ta do ta vile things like this, and it ain't dancin' a jig!"

The dwarf strides forward and swings 'Regret' at the nearest apparition.

"Dance with a ghost? I think bloody not!!" Boftil recoils in disgust at the spectral figure's offer to join it on the dancefloor.

Boftil makes an almost involuntary superstitious gesture at the sight and mention of ghosts, his face crinkling up in clear distaste. "Nothin' worse than a ghost in my book. Give me a skeleton or some rottin' zombie any day a tha week. At least ya can smash or squash those bloody buggers!"

Boftil grumbles under his breath as they make their way through the maze, keeping a wary eye on the strange paladin. "This place is even more annoyin' than I remembered it...more creepy stuff and less stuff to bash...didn't 'ave ta make our way through a maze neither."

Slipping free of the fog's enveloping grasp, Boftil spits in disgust as he again swings his hammer in growing anger.

"Bloody undead and creepy fog! Somebody remind me why I ever agreed ta come back ta this forsaken place!" Boftil grumbles, his innate superstition and fear of the supernatural creature seemingly making him more immune to their affects as his anger at their creepiness helps clear his mind.

The dwarf takes a couple of mighty swings at the undead wight with 'Regret' before stepping back a little to leave more space between himself and the monster.

"See anythin' nasty ta hit in there, bird?" Boftil grumbles into the room, following the tengu with his hammer firmly in hand.

Boftil a bit reluctantly reaches forward to grab a potion or two as well. "Best way to get a bit of magic inta you if you have ta. Goes down quick and at least it wets the whistle as well!"

Interested in at least one potion of Bull's Strength and possibly a CLW if there are any leftover, but happy for the lower level characters to get first dibs as needed.

Boftil looks on, fidgeting uncomfortably with his weapons and adjusting his armor. "Bloody magical mumbo-jumbo!" he mutters under his breath at the mention of curses and spells.

With the toe-hating sailors down for the count, Boftil continues forward and joins in the assault on the halfling turned giant lizard.

"Leave some a the bastards for me...I'm goin' ta smash their toes into mush!" Boftil, gripping his hammer tightly, trundles along as fast as his stubby legs can carry him, trying to keep up with the rest of the group.

Move action.

Boftil edges forward behind Arnold, drawing his hammer, trying his best to restrain himself from just rushing forward and getting stuck into these toe-hating bastards.

He leans forward and whispers in a deep tone into the wayang's ear. "Just say the word and let's go split some 'eads. Whaddya say?"

Boftil makes a visit to the quartermaster. "G'day mate! I've been tryin' ta control me anger for years now, but I think it's about time I try and channel it into even more smashin' and bashin'. Can you make ol' Regret here a bit angrier for me?" Boftil places the big dwarven longhammer down on the bench to get enchanted.

Looking to upgrade Boftil's +1 Longhammer with Furious enchantment.

"Also, while I'm 'ere might upgrade me cloak as well. Can't be too careful!"

Upgrading Cloak of Resistance to +2

The other member of the group is black-bearded dwarf. He is bare-armed and lightly armoured with a chain vest, but heavily armed with a longhammer, a sword and a bow slung across his broad back. "Boftil's the name! I can't believe they've sent me out on another bloody ship again...and back to the blasted Gloomspires no less! Seems that ever since I told this tale about bein' a 'Sea Dwarf' (total load a rot it was but it was part of a mission), it seems every second adventure I go on is water-logged! Only type of liquid I can can actually abide is amber coloured and poured out of a tap or sealed away in a bottle marked 'rum'!"

The dwarf leans over the edge of the ship and spits out into the water. "Last time I was sent to this forsaken place we had to carve our way through a swathe of undead nasties. Can't imagine this time it will be much more pleasant!"

Glad to be on board. Really enjoyed the last game with you GM Otha and didn't realise Boftil had already played with you in some other games as well.

Shenanigans: Boftil has Combat Reflexes and generally carries a longhammer with 10' reach as his primary weapon so may get to take more AoOs than the average character.

I'd be interested in this one. Boftil has played the prequel (Hall of the Flesh Eaters). He's a Level 6 Barbarian.

Day Job: Merchant: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Boftil was also quiet and withdrawn after the mission. He had found it a particularly challenging one, not physically, well not more than most, but emotionally and spiritually. Long had he shunned his past and his heritage. Ever since that fateful day when he had lead that quest with a small group of his fellow warriors to dispose of a raiding party of goblins.

That fateful mission all those years ago had been going well but then ended badly after Boftil cornered one of the goblins, a nasty cleric of Zarongel, who begged for his mercy. Boftil, in a moment of mercy for the defeated foe, held back from the killing blow. His hesitation gave the cleric time to prepare a spell, incapacitating Boftil, who was forced to watch as the cleric proceeded to raise the dead and turn the tide of the battle. His fellows were all slain in front of his eyes before he passed out, but Boftil was left for dead.

Ever since then, Boftil had stayed away from his homeland and spiralled into a world full of drinking, gambling, crime and death. He vowed never to let mercy enter his heart again, embracing his rage and ruthlessness. Well up and until now. Accepting Thorek's offer, but not really knowing why or what he hoped it might achieve, he blindly makes his way forward into an uncertain future. What will that future hold for the gruff dwarf? We'll just have to wait and see...

As the green rust monsters rush in towards him, Boftil strikes out at them multiple times before they get the chance to attack him.

Readied Attack and AoOs below are copied from Boftil's last post, all of which I think should take place before the greens were able to attack Boftil.

Depending on which creatures are still alive, Boftil will either step back to strike at a green or move a few feet to strike at an orange.

"These creepy bastards better keep their dirty feelers of me bloody hammer!" Boftil snarls, moving a few feet towards the side where the greenish creatures were climbing. He raises his big hammer and starts to spin it around, ready to take on one and all should they continue their foolish approach.

Readied Attack vs. 1st creature to get within 10' of him. Boftil also has 10' reach with his hammer and combat reflexes (an additional 2 AoO/round) so will take an AoO against any and all creatures that come close than 10' to him and thereby move through one of his threatened squares.

Enter Controlled Rage +4 STR, Power Attack on all upcoming attacks. Inspired Courage.

Boftil steps up to help the others try and work out the location of Jormurdun.

"I don't know if this 'elps but I remember a story me old ma once told me about Taargik, the king of Tar Taargadth. He was the king for 146 years, or somethin' like that, before completin' the Quest for Sky. If I remember correctly then that would mean the stele has remained in place for more than 9,500 years!"

Boftil continues along beside Thorek, gripping his hammer tightly and muttering grumpily under his breath.

"That'd be bloody right!" Boftil spits a broken tooth and a large glob of blood onto the ground at the advice that their wounds were all cursed. The encounter with the dwarven statues seems to have removed any trace of the hopeful thoughts that had started to make their way to the surface of his gruff personality.

Grunting, he follows along with the rest as they head towards the stairs.

Not looking pleased by the wounds being inflicted upon him, Boftil shows no signs of backing down, however. He swings his big hammer twice before stepping aside just a few few feet to provide more access for his ranged focused companions.

"Forgive me...it was mercy that was my undoing and I've spurned it ever since...but mercy is what I need now, to relieve the weight of my sins!"

Boftil ties the rope around himself and then joins the others in making the jump.

"Mate, I have ta admit that bein' amongst all this history of the old folk makes me consider me life in a different light. I've tried to cut meself off from me past for so long...but I forgot what I was missin. I'm still not sure that I'm worthy after I let me clan down but this stuff touches somethin' inside me I thought had died long ago!"

Boftil grunts, flexes his arms and steps forward to give it a go.

Once the potions are identified, Boftil wastes no time chugging them back. "Of course I'd prefer a good ale or a bottle of rum, but a good bit a healing tastes almost as sweet!"

Boftil keen for a drink, of potion or whatever he can get his hands on, takes a sip of the potions.

Boftil strides up and attempts to finish off the yellow clad boss.
