Acting for Xargin

Moth, is Xargin flat footed? If so, that hits, otherwise, he evades the attack

Xargin whirls around, drawing his rapier as he goes and strikes out at the goblin bride.

Rapier: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 1 = 14 Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Sure thing - can do.

Sounds tough - hope things improve Moth. I'm happy to continue

Sorry guys, ended up dealing with family stuff on Saturday and then having to go to IKEA. Then spent literally my whole Sunday putting together IKEA furniture. Going through the gameplay thread now to see where we're at so I can post.

Ahh, the old IKEA trap. Fairly safe to say we've all been there at some stage...

Male Human Scribe/4

Could be trouble...

Not a problem.

Male Human Scribe/4

Not a problem Moth.

Male Human Scribe/4

No problems on the slow posts. I'm still in and keen to continue.

Male Human Scribe/4

Hi all, apologies for my long absence and contributing to the slower movement of the game. The move was intense, and existing (mobile) broadband did not have service in our new place which took time to get set up with a new provider. Combined with all the chaos of the move and catching up at work after a couple of weeks out of action and I've had limited chance to post.

All excuses aside, I will be in a better position to post regularly from now.

Male Human Scribe/4

Hi all, I'm moving house (and state) this week so will likely have limited opportunity to jump online. Please play Marc as necessary to keep things moving.

Male Human Scribe/4

Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope you all get a decent (And safe) break over the coming week or two.

Thanks to Moth for running the game; I'm enjoying being back on the gaming boards.

Male Human Scribe/4

Looks like Jasminder is up again? Moth, if she is in a grapple what are her options? I'd assume she might just try to claw the things eyes out? (or would do if it had visible eyes!) Please modify if I've missed any modifiers etc in the below

Jasminder grunts in pain as the creature slams into her and then latches on and starts to drain her blood. She arches her back and screeches in rage at 'Walthus' before raking at the thing's exposed head and back in an effort to free herself.

I'm assuming Bloodrage is still going? I've also added +1 for Xargin's Inspire Courage

Left Claw Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 81d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
Right Claw Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 121d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9

EDIT: I vow never to roll for you again Jas!

I'm enjoying the game Moth. Things just got a bit full on for me with an upcoming house move and a few work projects that needed to be wrapped up before year end. I'm back on and checking in regularly now. Apologies if I held things up a little.

'Walthus' manages to dodge Jasminder's swipes. It turns its faceless head towards the vishkanya woman and attempts to punch her in the gut.

[dice=Slam]1d20 + 6 [dice=damage]1d4 + 2 [dice=grab attempt]1d20 + 8

Moth, from what I can see Jas' AC and CMD are 16 when in Bloodrage, so I'm assuming that hits?

Male Human Scribe/4

Acting on behalf of Jasminder, and making some assumptions on her attacks; please correct if I've gotten it wrong Moth

Jasminder's golden eyes flash dangerously, betraying her frustration at her earlier air swing. She swipes in a second time with her left hand first, then her right, swinging lower to try and connect with the creature.

Free Action: Blood Rage (if needed, or still active?)
Full round attack:
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 141d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 111d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

EDIT: Hmm, pretty ordinary rolls there, sorry Jasminder!

Is there a minimum amount of time that a vampire must spend with their sire before they are freed? I'm trying to get an idea of when is the earliest my character would have been born (i.e. would a vampire stay with their sire for 10 years minimum before they are freed? Or is it 20 years, or 50 years, or 100 years, etc?)

I will make a big difference on the background (e.g. born in the 20th century at the earliest, the 19th Century).

Male Human Scribe/4

Hey Giz (yes, I am sticking with that nickname haha)

Will get onto the character background now. Have a basic concept in my head buy haven't fleshed it out yet. The questions above help.

Roughly how long would it have been since we were sired originally? I.e. how long would we have been under the protection of our sire's? Just need to know so I can work out roughly what era I would have been born into?

Cheers,
Marty

You get a drake rather than a horse as your animal companion / mount - sounds good, but you need to give up a LOT of class features to get it. Also, if I understand correctly, your drake starts at Tiny size, and goes up a size category every 4 or 5 levels; so you need to wait until 13th level until it reaches large size, ie, big enough for a human to use as a mount.

I think I'm cool to stick with the standard Cavalier class in that case. Thanks for flagging as an option Flash and providing the low-down Moth.

Mothman wrote:

Guys, while doing the character creation process, give some thought to the campaign traits and which of the four NPCs your trait will relate to....

At the moment I've used the Friend of the Family trait for Marc, linking him with Koya. Fits in nicely with the Order of the Dragon. I've also taken Minkaian as a language though, to leave it open for some sort of link with the Ameiko (and potentially other PCs).

I have not padded out the background fully yet, but basic premise is that Marc is a younger son from a wealthy merchant family who are active in Sandpoint. This gives reasonable opportunity to have some link them with any of the characters;

- Sandru due to his caravanning/trading interests
- Ameiko for any insight into her homeland (and potential trading opportunities or contacts)
- Shalelu for intel on the roads and dangers about.

On top of this, Marc currently spends plenty of evenings hitting the Sandpoint bars, and has the social skills to introduce himself to new people.

Marc's oldest brother has just taken over the business after his father passed away and is making like tough for him, so an opportunity to get out of town is looking more and more attractive.

I'd be more than comfortable linking Marc's background with anyone who is keen.

Dementrius, maybe we should take this offline... :)

Belongs to Order of the Dragon, which should be a good fit for the nature of the campaign.

Well looks like that settles the healing question; good to see we have some options! Though a little apprehensive of seeking healing from Yumiko...

Well lock me in for the Cavalier. Moth, will get the character finished in the next day or so.

Tinkergoth wrote:
On character background, I'd be happy to play the heir if no one objects.

I have no objections - sorry, meant to add that to my last note.

Moth, I've pulled together the skeleton for a Cavalier. I like the class, and I figured it ticks a combat-oriented box while also providing a reasonable range of social based skills which could help.

But that leaves us short a healer by the look of everyone else's choices. I was looking at the Friend of the Family feat which would link him with Koya - is she a reasonable healing substitute/option? I'm not adverse to rethinking my class if you feel there is a definite need there.

Male Human Scribe/4

Hi all, have had a busy week so apologies on taking a few days to get on. It's also been a while since I've been on the pbp boards, so I'll likely be a little rusty!

I don't have a firm character concept yet, but I'll read through the Jade Regent material and get some ideas and post back soon.

I am afraid, I have not been tracking my XP. So i have no idea where I am on the level progression.

Another question Moth, are we using the Slow or Medium Level Progression table? I kinda thought we were using the Medium, but given I'm still 4th and sitting on 17,400 xp (18,100 once I factor in the xp for the ogre fight) I assume we must be on the slow progression table (reach 5th at 23,000). In that case I'm still a fair way off.

Male Human Scribe/4

Boland could definitely use some time to scribe spells. I don't know if I've even looked at Filge's spell book yet! But given no one else is too keen to stop for long, happy to keep it to one or two. Moth, can we assume Boland retires in the evening and spends a little time studying the spellbook to see what's there?

Thanks for the game also; I enjoyed it. Apologies on having to rush off at the end there. Also thanks for the pizza; I can pass you some cash on the weekend at Noah's party.

Male Human Scribe/4

Ok, here'e a list of the loot we've accumulated over the past couple of adventures. I don't think this stacks with anything we've already jotted down on character sheets.

1,360gp
6,450sp
5 x Gold Baboon masks
12 x pieces of silverware (450gp)
Gold Armband (120gp)
2 x Glass Bastard Swords * (+1 presumably)
Silver Ring
Gold Plated Halfling Skull
6 x Composite Longbows (sold at cost would be 300gp)
6 x Battle axes (sold at cost would be 30gp)
18 vials of some type of poison
Wand of St Cuthbert*
Huge Warhammer*
Large Half-Plate Armour*
2 x wands*
20 x doses of Alchemist fire (in 2 crystal jugs)
12 x pieces of amber
Golden Water Boiler
Light metal Shield*
Hardened Resin Ceramic Pot

Moth, are we able to identify the above unidentified items? Can we assume that there is a market to sell any of the above?

In terms of buying things, there are a handful of things I can think of that might come in handy:

Transport: Could probably invest in horses? Moth, will these teleport with Kaurophon? Also, are they likely to fare well/be of use in Occipitus? 6 x riding horses with bridle, saddles etc would cost around 566gp. Could upgrade to light warhorse for another 450gp. An alternate might be to buy a whole bunch of "Mount" scrolls, but this is likely to get expensive. I guess we could look for a flying carpet or something similar, but also expensive I imagine

Food: Grom should be able to cover the party (and horses) with Create Food & Water spell. However, probably wouldn't hurt to each buy 3 weeks trail rations just in case. At 5sp per day, this would cost 61.5gp all up.

Grom and Elendil also look for the following items:

-- Resist Energy scrolls
-- Protection from Energy scrolls. (Grom can cast both, but could be very useful to grab a couple extra).
-- Bane Weapon vs Evil Outsider. Increases bonus by +2 vs evil outsiders, and does 2d6 extra damage. Moth, are any available and/or is there someone who would be able to upgrade our existing weapons?
-- Holy Weapon. Good aligned, so overcomes Damage Reduction, +2d6 damage vs Evil beings. Again, any available, and/or upgrade?
-- Cure wands (wouldn't hurt to invest in another).

Moth, not sure if there is a way to magically shrink the hammer and/or armour of the fire giant, then make it permanent. If they are only +1, might not be worth it, but if they are stronger magic then would be a waste. On the flip side, I guess Grom could consider being enlarged and then having that made permanent...

Male Human Scribe/4

Grom and Elendil put discuss the plane of Occipitus with Kaurophon as they travel, also drawing on their own knowledge to try and predict what horrors to expect.

Knowledge the Planes (Grom): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Knowledge the Planes (Elendil): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Trying to think of the type of demons likely to be encountered there, what energy they are likely to use, immunities etc. Add +2 for aid another to the higher of the scores.

Male Human Scribe/4

Hey all - I've been slack on the discussion thread, so my apologies. Work's exceedingly busy at the moment and using all my free time to try and post in-game (and not hold things up).

Speaking of which, I'll be out this weekend (Friday and maybe Monday included). Got a big bucks weekend planned and as the best man things will likely get messy...

Please don't allow Laithe to hold things up.

Mothman wrote:

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that change. You no longer need the Track feat to be able to track – anyone can track using the survival skill, so the feat becomes obsolete. Rangers just get a bonus to track, as that is sort of their schtick. If you want something in the same vein, I suggest replacing your track feat with Skill Focus (survival) – that way you’ll be tracking approximately as well as (at some levels better than) a ranger of the same level.

Otherwise looks ok.

You might want to note your CMB and CMD (for human and predator forms) on your character sheet too. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, its in the combat chapter, towards the end.

Cool - I've taken the Skill focus feat for survival, and added the CMB & CMD scores to my stats.

Mothman wrote:
Hey Ash, I noticed that you picked up Brew Potion as your third level feat. Whilst there’s no problem with that per se, I should warn you that this campaign, especially if / when we get to higher levels may not have much down time. So whilst item creation feats will no doubt come in handy, you might not get as much use out of them as you would like at times.

Ok - it seemed appropriate given the potion notes we found with Filge, but I'll take another look and might change it for something likely to get a little more use. Thanks.

Mothman wrote:

Could you send me or summarise the details of that PrC?

Is it from Races of Stone?

Sorry, it's Battlesmith not Warriorsmith as I posted above. And yes, it's in Races of Stone:

Basically it's a prestige class that gives smiths the ability to craft magical items, but also grants them bonuses when they use items they've made. In short, at first level they get:

-- +1 base attack bonus
-- d10 hp
-- +3 to damage when wielding a warhammer they've made (which excludes Grom's current weapon)
-- The ability to create magical weapons

I'll get you a more detailed rundown if I can soon

Mothman wrote:
It looks like I did not give the previous xp to everyone. As in my email it was 4130 for 7th level characters, 3360 for 8th level characters.

As mentioned in my email, the xp from both sections will allow Grom to level to 8th and Elendil to level to 9th.

Don't have Elendil's exact total on me, but he will be around 37,500 and Grom will be 33,054.

I've already levelled up Grom to 8th, taking on a level in the prestige class Warriorsmith. There were a couple of prestige classes I was aiming for for Elendil, but not sure if he quite has the pre-requisites to take either yet. I will take a look and let you know, but probably just another level in bard.

Male Human Scribe/4

Hey Moth, thanks for posting up all the conversion notes/links etc. Definitely will make the change over a little easier. Will probably stick to the Shapechange ability for Laithe - it has featured so heavily in the game so far that doesn't make huge amounts of sense to change it over now.

I'll get Laithe switched over ASAP.

Hey Moth,

Looks like the consensus is to move over to the Pathfinder Rules, so I'm happy to do so as well.

Male Human Scribe/4

Not a problem Moth; been fairly busy at this end too. I'll continue to check in here and there until I see some action, but no rush in the meantime, especially with Twiceborn and Ithuriel both out this week.
