Envoy's Alliance

The PDF says it is "The Swordlord's Challenge" at the top of page 3. The version I downloaded yesterday also has "The Swordlord's Challenge" in the bookmarks. The version I downloaded just now has no bookmarks.

Envoy's Alliance

Player's forum handle: Rakshara
Character name: Carolus of Linn
Character Pronouns: he/him
Ancestry (Heritage): Gnome (Fey-Touched)
Classes (Dedications): Lore Oracle (Loremaster)
Home Region or City: Carpenden, Andoran
Level of original character: Technically 8th, but I haven't leveled him up yet
Faction: Verdant Wheel

Downtime: Either Academia Lore or Engineering Lore

★ ---- ★ ---- ★ ---- ★

Character Details

1) Any special rules, boons, or corner cases you need to let me know about: Greater Staff of Healing purchased from 4-03, Linnorm's Legacy

2) A few sentences about your character, both out of character and in character as your character would describe themself. Why are you in the Pathfinder Society? What are your character’s quirks, interests and pet peeves? Where are you from? (And if this is not originally a Pathfinder Society Character, tell me about what makes them a good fit for this story.)

Carolus wants to know everything there is to know, so he can organize it all. (Does the name Linnaeus ring a bell?) He joined the Pathfinder Society because they looked like people who could help him reach his goal - and then he met Urwal. He is delighted with Urwal!

Carolus was born in Andoran, but currently considers Absalom home.

A gnome with electric blue hair and eyes, pale skin with just a hint of blue, and possibly just a hint of electric crackle running through his hair, says Hello, my name is Carolus of Linn. I will be trying to answer any questions we run across in our time together, and hope to learn things I do not already know.

3) If you have to level your character to level seven for the first chapter (‘The Lady’s Harvest’) are there any special changes you’re planning on making to it? No.

4) What was your character’s previous favorite adventure, and why? I think it's a toss-up between Lions of Katapesh (the GM's reaction to Brain Drain was a delight!) and you running The Fanciful March of Urwal (I have such fond memories of you as a GM for it.)

5) Why do you want to investigate in the Dark Archives Case Files?

For the mystery - they look like a chance for Carolus to learn all sorts of stuff he hasn't been exposed to before! I haven't read Dark Archives yet, I haven't heard much about them. They're also some of the few non-AP scenarios I haven't played.

6) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?)

Yes. I'll have to spend some time refreshing my Paizo Forums knowledge - it's been ... a couple of years since I did a PbM there.

7) Is there a botting spoiler already in your character’s profile? (Hint, hint!) No. Then again, the character profile for Carolus could charitably be described as "slim" - I'll need to update it significantly before the start of this game.

Hi, all! I'm seeing some misinterpretations due to some poor wording around elemental impulse feats. When you choose a kineticist feat, you can choose from amont the feats under Kineticist Feats and from the impulse feats of any element you can channel. You do not get an *additional* feat each time you pick a feat. So if you were a 1st-level pyrokineticist, you would have the three fire impulse feats from dedicated gate plus one feat chosen from either the main list or from fire impulses. Then at every even level after that, you'd gain one kineticist feat chosen from either the main list or fire impulses.

Sorry about the confusion!

As a suggestion - rename the section on page 5 from "Elemental Impulses" to "Elemental Impulse Feats". The word feat is in the description, but it did not trigger as keyword feat until I went to re-read after reading your response.

What traditions actually get Warding Aggression?

The spell text (SoM, Page 140) says "arcane, divine, occult".

The Arcane Spell List lists it (SoM, page 81).

The Divine Spell List lists it (SoM, page 82).

The Occult Spell List does NOT list it (SoM, would be on page 85).

The Primal Spell List lists it (SoM, page 87).

Should I trust the individual spell lists, or the spell description?

You can't really fix it for SoM, but you set up an expectation and then did not fulfill it. Please do NOT do this for future new classes.

The various box texts on page 33 imply to me that more-or-less fleshed out versions of Seltyiel and Ija exist. You give the two short descriptions of them, use full page art to lead into the relevant chapters, use the character art in the section, and drop them.

Don't give us a named character and then drop them on the floor.

Page 8 says (emphasis added):

A good example of additional skill-based exploration activities would include using Survival to Sense Direction or Track. Remember that the wayfinder provided by Kreighton Shaine provides a +1 item bonus to these checks.

Where does that +1 come from? I don't see anything in the description of a wayfinder in CRB, or in the scenario when Kreighton hands it out, to indicate that it would aid a skill check? Other than the fact that it acts a compass, and so would prevent a -2 to Sense Directions checks.

I note that Whip is Martial - can a character without Martial Weapons proficiency still threaten with it?

Envoy's Alliance

Using references from AoN:

Quote:

Precious Materials - https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=731

The Price entry for each material gives the Price of a simple non-magical item made of that material, based on its Bulk (if the item is lighter than 1 Bulk, use the price for 1 Bulk), as well as Prices for different amounts of the material itself. Prices for armor, shields, and weapons made of precious material are in the Armor (page 555), Shields (page 586), and Weapons (page 599) sections of this chapter.
Quote:

Cold Iron - https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=272

Price 250 gp (per Bulk)
Quote:

Cold Iron Weapons - https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=375

Price 880 gp (+88 gp per Bulk)

A Light Mace is Light Bulk. In general, one through nine Light counts as Zero Bulk, ten Light counts as One Bulk.

Does a Standard Grade Cold Iron Light Mace cost 880 GP (880 + 0*88), applying the general Bulk Rules, or 968 GP (880 + 0*88), applying the special case of the Precious Materials '(if the item is lighter than 1 Bulk, use the price for 1 Bulk)'?

Obviously a Standard Grade Cold Iron Weapon is more expensive than a Standard Grade Cold Iron Smith's Hammer - the latter is probably 250 GP, maybe 500 GP, while a Mace (bulk 1) would be 968. Where does that leave the Light Mace?

Now that I have read through the scenario, I have an additional question in reference to the ritual. If I have multiple secondary casters, with varying levels of success, do I take the better or stack them together?

Casting Rituals Rules

A couple trains of thought her

1)take the highest level of success.

or

2) keep note of who got what and see what washes out. Say one critical success, which is +2 circ bonus to primary check, and then a failure, -4 circ penalty to the primary check, would be a net -2 penalty.

kind of harsh, but guessing that is the gravity of rituals.

As I read the Rituals Rules, each Critical Success by a secondary caster gets a +2, each Failure a -4, each Critical Failure a 'decrease level of success by one'.

Primary Caster: Occultism or Religion
Secondary Casters: Occultism, Religion, possibly Athletics and Nature. So up to four secondary casters - each crit success gives a +2, each failure a -4, each crit fail is really bad. Could get as good as +8, as bad as -16, or as awful as 'loose four levels of success'.

Hi!

You should now see the Ancestry Guide in your digital content but please let me know if you have any issues opening it :)

I went and looked just now - the LOAG I see is still the one from November that I already downloaded. I hit the "Refresh Downloads" button, and nothing changed.

Is that expected?

That's actually the most recent version of the PDF and probably what went to print.

Thanks!

Lost Omens: Legends says

Quote:
A witch with Baba Yaga as their patron can choose an inanimate object as a familiar. If they do, they still can gain master abilities and some familiar abilities that don’t require movement. The object familiar has no Speeds and must select a Speed familiar ability before it can move, coming to life in a way appropriate to the chosen Speed and using the statistics of a normal familiar for that day.

To me, this implies that it should be possible to give a Land Speed to an Inanimate Familiar. The only thing that I can find in the list of Familiar Abilities that would grant this is kind of tortuous - you could make a case that Fast Movement adds 15' to whatever kind of movement, so granting it would give an Inanimate Familiar a Land Speed of 15'.

Should there be a "Land Speed" Familiar Ability? The other case where I could see someone wanting it would be with usually purely water-bound familiar, like a fish, shark, or dolphin.

For that matter, I'm kind of of the opinion that, in general, a familiar should one type of movement at 25' for free - birds, butterflies, bees could get a Fly Speed, fish a Swim Speed, etc. This would not apply to one of Baba Yaga's Inanimate Familiars, because the specific text would override the general.

You can attempt to change the modifications on your innovation by spending 1 day of downtime tinkering with it and attempting a Crafting check with a high DC for your level.

I'll be mentioning this when I leave feedback - but should "high" actually be "hard"? I cannot find a low/high modification to level DCs, I can find incredibly easy/very easy/easy/hard/very hard/incredibly hard.

As a player - in the past, if I've needed the Chronicle / information for an upcoming session, I've made certain to ask for it / tell the GM when I need it by.

If I'm playing games close together, I either have planned in advance for anything I want to spend gold on, or figure I'll worry about after all the games are done.

As a GM, I try to make it clear when I will have the chronicles out. I will be doing my first convention GMing this coming weekend, the convention's guidelines is 'before the end of the next slot'. I expect I'll be working on them directly after the sessions - I'm running Bounties 1 & 2, so I should have time.

For my regional GMing, I've only done Quests / Bounties, and have tried to get them done that evening. When I run a full scenario, they're going to finish up late enough that I will be needing to go to sleep to be ready for work the next morning - in that case, I'm going to be promising 'in under 24 hours'.

We're (practically?) all volunteers at this, and we have lives - as GMs and as players, we need to make it clear what our expectations, needs, and resources are, so that we are working from the same starting point.

Envoy's Alliance *

Does the access to Learn a Spell also apply to spontaneous spellcasters with appropriate feats? I'm thinking of a Sorcerer with Arcane Evolution as one example.

Is it my imagination, or are the Faction Boons not yet up on the Organized Play Boons page?

I have figured that hardness DOES still apply, since there is nothing to suggest that a normal object would not still have hardness after it is broken, but before it is destroyed.

"Construct Armor Like normal objects, an animated broom has Hardness. This Hardness reduces any damage it takes by an amount equal to the Hardness. Once an animated broom is reduced to less than half its Hit Points, or immediately upon being damaged by a critical hit, its construct armor breaks and its Armor Class is reduced to 14."

If the hardness does not go away after the Construct Armor is broken, why are the two sentences I struck out included in the write-up at all?

What is it? I would have expected it to be a 5th level consumable, but I can't find it anywhere.

Envoy's Alliance

Female Half-Elf Sorceror, Bronze Draconic/9 with Familiar Master Archetype

What do we have for characters? I haven't made up my mind yet - I've got a Xenoseeker Rogue/1 who's played two scenarios, and an Icon Envoy/1 who's brand new.

Envoy's Alliance

Scenario:
1st Level - get a Familiar (2 master/familiar abilities)
2nd Level - take Familiar Master Dedication (4 master/familiar abilities)
6th Level - take Improved Familiar (The number of abilities required to make your
familiar a specific familiar (page 147) is two lower than normal.)

You now have four abilities and can take the Fairie Dragon Familiar, which requires six abilities.

10th level - take Incredible Familiar (You can select six familiar or master abilities each day, instead of four.)

Does Incredible Familiar + Improved Familiar mean I can give two *optional* master/familiar abilities to my Fairie Dragon each day?

Envoy's Alliance

Have room for another?

Elluin has a fascination with how electricity behaves and can be used.

He splits his time between being an artist home-body and an adventurer - when he gets bored with one, he goes does the other for a decade or two until he gets bored with that. He probably gets bored more quickly with adventuring.

He carries a fair amount of inexpensive bronze and glass 'stuff' most of the time. Ideally, a bunch of the bronze stuff would useful with the Telekinetic Projectile cantrip - as I read the rules, I'd have to spend an action tossing whatever away from me, and then using the cantrip on it. It's all small abstract sculpture things.

His Alchemy is *highly* focused on healing / aid - and electricity.

Is "go to sleep" is equivalent to "fall unconscious" for things that end at "fall unconscious"?

The Wand of Manifold Missiles - https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=370 - says:

Quote:
Effect: You cast magic missile of the indicated level. After you cast the spell, an additional missile or missiles are released from the wand at the start of each of your turns, as though you cast the 1-action version of magic missile. Choose targets each time. This lasts for 1 minute, until you’re no longer wielding the wand, or until you try to activate the wand again.

"Choose targets each time" - is this a free action?

Envoy's Alliance

The real question is is the targeting for the free missile every round - does that take an action or not?

Envoy's Alliance

The Wand of Manifold Missiles - https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=370 - says:

The end conditions are one minute elapses, the wand is no longer in my hand, or I try to use it again. I assume that either being knocked unconscious or disarmed would satisfy the 'no longer wielding' condition. Or I could voluntarily put it away and that would end it.

Does it or does it not take an action to target the free missile(s) at the start of my turn? "Choose targets each time." - it doesn't list an action type associated with this.

Do you need a different formula for each type of spell for a scroll to craft?

Ie. Do you need 2 separate formulas to craft a scroll of magic missile and a scroll of mage armor?

As an add-on to this - what about wands? Is there a generic 'wand of 1st-level spell' formula to make a any 1st-level spell into a wand, or do you need a separate formula for each spell?
