How's your bluff? We could take out Scourge by framing him for your murder. Tumble out of his presence with a bloody dagger, screaming, "I told him no! I told him no but he kept coming! Then the knife . . .! The knife!!" Then fall overboard and disappear under the waves.

I'm Back!! Everything is fixed! Something was wrong with my account at Paizo and it wouldn't let me post. Thankfully something shook loose last night. I am still very interested in the game. Let me catch up and I'll start posting again later today.

Oh god . . . memo to self: Never dump strength again, no matter how appropriate to the character.

Oh, this is not a complaint. Its hilarious. Rillum hates the rat stereotype, but keeps reinforcing it.

Rillum readies an action to throw a bomb as soon as one of them breaks the surface. He will overshoot to get them with splash damage, but avoid hitting anyone they close with in combat. He holds tight to his board so Sandman can move freely.

"no . . . No . . . NO, No, NO NO NO!"

As things begin to settle down and the people in the tavern start to outnumber the things that erupted from the cellar, a plaintive cry starts to rumble into a scream. Everyone turns to see Stella standing near the hearth, ladle in hand, a rictus of rage and despair twisting her face. Several of the beasts surround her and one nuzzles her leg in a loving way. The others still living stop combat at the sound and bound to surround her.

"NOOOoooo! Too soon, too soon! Now too many are dead, and what will we put in the stew!" She scoops up the cuddly horror and drops it in the cauldron where it begins to dissolve into lumps and gravy. "You!"

She points the spoon at the cowering halfling girl, still quivering on the table where she was placed. "You did this. You touched the salt! I told you to never touch the salt!"

The things, as one, swing their gaze to fall on the girl.

If our DM doesn't return, would anyone be interested if I took up the reins? It's been less than a week, so obviously not immediately, but I like what I've seen of many of the characters.

Rules are really just another kind of contract. He just looks at them as contracts he didn't agree to, which is where the problem lies. If he agrees to the terms then it isn't a rule. It's just an agreement.

If we approach the situation from that perspective I'd imagine we'll find him pretty amiable.

This is exactly it. It really is a matter of semantics, but important to him. To Rillum rules are imposed - he will not follow them. But deals and agreements, those he will follow. It is as simple as what you call it.

As for the stealing from crew, I think Rillum has established his feelings about the sanctity of things. In two cases, the acid vials and fiddle, once he learned they belonged to people who did not wrong him, they were returned.

I think the key is to just understand trust is going to be difficult between us all for a while. Rillum keeps his deals, and he doesn't randomly lash out. He retaliates. Maybe disproportionately, but it takes an offense first, a defense because he is small and easily seen as weak. He feels, from experience, the need to establish strength quickly and definitively. He just looks like a raging psycho because he's surrounded by people who have wronged him. Put him in a better environment, you might see a kinder, gentler Rillum. More barbecue, less munitions.

Whew! Rillum has had a tough day. Drugged, kidnapped, all his worldly possessions stolen, a 20 foot fall on his back, hard labor in bilge water, and a potential murder accusation.

I don't mind getting beaten on for a bit, I just think Rillum can do us the most good in the kitchen. It is the most likely place to have improvised tools for a good number of my class features, and if we do decide to poison anyone, he is going to be the best at it.

I do think that finding allies is a tactic that even the evil can get behind, and I appreciate the in-character reasons to work with the party - it will considerably reduce the likelihood of Rillum blowing the ship up at midnight watch. Really, poison and disease are the least of what these guys have brought onto their vessel.

I made a few minor adjustments based on the DM's advice and went ahead with creating a new alias. I like this character so much that if he is not chosen here, I will try him elsewhere.
