Kingmaker Late Pledge Campaign

Thursday, July 18, 2019

Three flaming skeletons with mouths open wide attacking a 4-armed, bipedal alien with grey skin and an angular face and dark pits for eyes. The alien's upper left arm is wielding some sort of yellow energy bolt. The silhouette of another adventurer looking on in horror can be seen in the foreground.

The Kingmaker Late Pledge campaign gives you one final opportunity to seize the Kingmaker Adventure Path and Companion Guide, as well as to pick up Add-On products that are exclusive to the campaign. From Hero Point tokens and Kingmaker-themed dice to the Kingdom Management Screen, this is your opportunity to make your Kingmaker campaign something truly memorable! The campaign runs through 11:59 p.m. Pacific time on September 30, so head over to KingmakerCampaign.com and lock in your pledge!

With the launch campaign over, we’ve locked down the final sizes and contents for both the Kingmaker Adventure Path and the Companion Guide. Note: These products are not part of any subscription.

Kingmaker Adventure Path

Wizard archetype. A dark-skinned man with a thin mustache holds his right hand out, casting an upside down teardrop-shaped glow of blue. In his left hand, he firmly holds a pointed staff upright. It stands taller than him and near the top it has a rectangular, almost hammer shaped section with a sitting green cat on the side. The man is dressed in pleated brown robes with wide complementary stripes, and wears steel shoes. A wide belt carries two buckled pouches on his left side, one smaller than the other. He wears a piece of shoulder armor secured by by a wide dark red sash with a silver disc attached to protect his joints and has a rolled headscarf that is topped by a conic, pointed hat with a green ball near the top of the point. He appears to be wearing a shoulder wrap that is white with pink flowers underneath his headscarf.

In Kingmaker, your player characters are more than mere adventurers. They are destined to become the rulers of the world’s newest kingdom—a nation that you get to build from the ground up as the campaign unfolds! In the northeastern corner of the sprawling expanse of the River Kingdoms lies an unclaimed wilderness known as the Stolen Lands. If your PCs can defeat the bandits and monsters that infest the central portion of the Stolen Lands, you’ll be able to establish your new nation therein... but this is only the beginning. Rugged mountains, sprawling swamps, and tangled forests border your new home on all sides, and as you expand into these lands you’ll forge new alliances, clash with new foes, and uncover an ancient menace that has long lurked in the overgrown corners of the Stolen Lands. But once you’ve claimed your territory, can your party defend this hard-won kingdom from war on its borders and supernatural threats from within? Will you rule with justice and mercy, or will you become the very monsters you fought to oppose? In the Kingmaker Adventure Path, the destiny of the world’s newest nation is yours to decide!

A stunning 640-page hardcover, the Kingmaker Adventure Path provides GMs everything they need to run this epic campaign. All six chapters published in 2010 will be updated to Pathfinder Second Edition rules—plus a new prologue makes its tabletop debut in this release! Detailed appendices provide GMs with flavorful gazetteers of the campaign’s myriad locations, from the Stolen Lands at large to the rival city of Pitax.

The Kingmaker Adventure Path also features complete rules for hex-map exploration, kingdom building, and management to bring the campaign’s most innovative elements to life at your table. Lastly, a bestiary of new and updated monsters that feature prominently in the Adventure Path give GMs of any campaign new tools to torment their player characters with! The expanded adventure path also includes new material, including:

  • Barony Expansion: You’ll get a wealth of new tools, options, and encounters to complicate your players’ lives during the early days of their nation’s foundation. What strange events, dangerous complications, and unexpected boons await, and what effect might they have on the nation during its tender formative years?
  • Season of Bloom: A strange and frightening contagion spreads through your lands—people are getting sick, going mad, and ultimately bursting open as horrific monsters emerge from within to rampage through the kingdom! Can you cure this strange affliction and bring the Season of Bloom to a close before your nation falls apart from within?
  • Candlemere Dungeon: The ancient legacy of an eldritch god still holds sway. The deadly truths hidden away within the chambers below Candlemere will test your PCs to the very limits of sanity and life alike! Are the powerful treasures and ancient secrets to be discovered in the sprawling ruins below Candlemere worth the dangers your PCs will face, or are some things best left forgotten?
  • Cursed King: Take your Kingmaker PCs on their most deadly and dangerous adventure ever! With this expansion, the Kingmaker Adventure Path will provide enough content for your party of adventurers to reach the absolute height of power, finishing the campaign as 20th-level heroes... that is, if you can survive these final epic encounters!

Kingmaker Companion Guide

Kingmaker Companion Guide: The adventures don’t stop in Kingmaker’s core campaign. Inspired by the hit CRPG from Owlcat Games, the Kingmaker Companion Guide: is a 128-page hardcover that expands on the experience by providing details on twelve companion NPCs who are destined to accompany you into the Stolen Lands. Each NPC in the Kingmaker Companion Guide: is presented at several points during their adventuring careers, and as your PCs get to know them, each will reveal additional quests in the Stolen Lands, giving your party ever more opportunities to grow in power and fame. From the base campaign, sidequest adventures will be included for Amiri, Ekundayo, Jubilost, Linzi, Nok-Nok, Tristian, and Valerie.

Further rules expanding specialized roles in kingdom management, shenanigans that could take place around campfires or in taverns between adventures, and other downtime activities will help to fill the gaps between adventures and improve your characters’ and your kingdom’s legend with each friend you make!

So this AP is going to be as many pages as the CRB I just received? Nice.

When can we apply to the late pledge? I don't seem to be able to?

To head off any confusion, because we were so close to unlocking the Ekundayo level-up when the campaign ended, and because we knew we'd have this late pledge window to push us over that last hurdle, we went ahead and unlocked it for the final book!

Yay!

That is all.

The campaign is live now and you should be able to make your pledges.

Added the late-unlock map pack!

One thing that I haven't seen clearly stated - Has anything been said about how this will interact with Subscriptions?

I pledged for the Map Packs, but I'm also a Maps subscriber. When the time comes that these maps release for general purchase, will they be part of the monthly subscription, or will they be separate? I don't want skipping them to mess up my Subscriber status under the new #-of-subscriptions rules.

Is there any way to get the Kingmaker 1st Edition PDFs with this? That's going to be the deciding factor for me.

Grand Lodge

Anyone who backed the campaign received codes for the 1E pdfs as well. I'm not sure if that still applies in the late pledges.

You can get 1e Kingmaker PDFs any time you want, they are not particularly tied to the campaign, as far as I know.

Unfortunately there is no way to just get the 1e product, and I'm not willing to pay $60 for 2e pdfs ill never use just to add on the bestiary

For the Companion book, will there be info and stats for each of the 12 companions, but only sidequests for those we unlocked?

I'm glad about that, still bit annoyed that we aren't getting all of them in one book(because it makes book feel incomplete to me.), but at least we got Ekundayo :D Seriously the dude is one of the best companions in the game

I'm confused about the bestiaries. Are they part of the pledge campaign, or are they separate products, or included in the AP? Very interested in that 5e bestiary

Will Paizo be selling the 2 pathfinder second addition books to people who order using a direct purchase from Piazo.

Will 640-page hardcover, the Kingmaker Adventure Path

They've said that the Kingmaker hardcover will be available at Paizo.com when it's done, but the price will be higher than that paid during the funding campaign.

You guys are amazing. I went ahead and purchased the hardbound for Forest Kingdoms 5E as a thank you.

Of interesting note: of the twelve companions presented in the Owlcat game, three have classes not yet in 2nd edition...I wonder what the 2020 Gen Con release will include...

I mean, they are NPC, I don't think Pathfinder 2e npcs have "classes" in same way as Starfinder npcs do

True, they could go that route. But I have a feeling that they will all have a class given them, even if they use Multiclass concepts to complete.

But I'm still holding out hope for expanded class options for next year.

This is not strictly true. NPCs can be made exactly as PCs are in PF2...or use a method more like Starfinder. I'd generally expect Companions of this sort to use the PC rules.

Of course, they could make an exception for those whose Class has yet to be converted. Or just make them different Classes, depending.

I have a question for Paizo about the Kingdom Builder rules...

The text in the announcement says

Quote:
The Kingmaker Adventure Path also features complete rules for hex-map exploration, kingdom building, and management to bring the campaign’s most innovative elements to life at your table.

Is this section of the book campaign-agnostic? i.e. if I want to run a kingdom building campaign that has nothing to do with the Kingmaker AP, will I have a lot of work to do to scrub the AP's lore out and sub in my own content, or is that chapter (or chapters...) made up of generic rules?

I mean, even in Starfinder and D&D 5e you can optionally use PC rules for NPCs, but I haven't seen that done in published content for either of them, its more of optional variant rule thing.

Right, but it's non-optional in PF2 (well, it's optional in that a GM can choose not to do it, but it's assumed that they can and will if they want). Mark Seifter has noted that, if doing RotRL in PF2 this is how they'd do Karzoug, for example.

In both Starfinder and to a lesser extent 5E the math is actually different for NPCs, making using PC rules that way weird and not work well (or, in 5E makes their CR not correlate much at all to level), and that's not true of PF2.

The NPC rules in PF2 are simpler and quicker, but they wind up with almost identical AC, to-hit, and so on, It is intended that you not only be able to use them for NPCs, but to actually do so for complex and important enough ones.

Are PDF versions included with all add-ons? I saw that the PDF version is mentioned with the 5e Bestiary, but not with the other add-ons.

Hi Joana, I do not have funds now or I would love to pledge now.

Does any one know when these books will release and be available through Paizo to order normally.

I am also curious about the Companion Guide.

Is it a book that mainly concentrates on stats + lore for 12 NPc's.

If so I would probably not be interested in it.

Late 2020 is the date they expect to deliver project for the (not)Kickstarter, so I would assume the same general release date on Paizo.com.

As I understand it, it's a book with statblocks and background for the NPCs from the Kingmaker computer game.

Fumarole corrects me below, so read that post instead. :)

WOW! Kingmaker is the first “older” AP to get 2nd edition treatment? Holy Cow!
(Admittedly was hoping Legacy of Fire might be on that short list) ... maybe? Please?

But all wishing, hoping, & praying aside ... I did enjoy Kingmaker ... and I think when the PF2e books come out, I may have to get them, just because. :D

Confused/curious about the kingmaker bestiary, why 5e and PF1? (Are one of those a typo and should one of them be PF2e)?

Lol! Pathfinder 2nd edition ... I’m more and more excited by it. :P

The bestiary is not needed for 2E as all of the 2E stats will be in the compilation.
