Starfinder Battles Announced for 2020!

Wednesday, April 24, 2019

Starfinder fans,

Today we sent out this press release in partnership with WizKids. We're so excited about the opportunities this brings and while we don't have details now, like information on subscriptions, or which characters (aliens?) will make it into the first set, we want to be sure you hear about this new development for Starfinder.

WizKids Announces Enhanced Licensing Partnership with Paizo

Pre-painted Iconic Heroes, Monsters, and Starships from the Starfinder Universe Coming Soon!

WizKids, the industry leader in high-quality pre-painted miniatures, today announced a new branch of their licensing partnership with Paizo, makers of the popular Pathfinder and Starfinder Roleplaying Games, with plans to bring the company's latest offering to life on the tabletop with a brand new line of Starfinder Pre-Painted Miniatures.

Starfinder Battles joins the wildly popular Pathfinder Battles line in offering an amazing collection of high-quality miniatures for fans of the game.

"We're very excited to explore the Starfinder universe with Paizo," said Justin Ziran, president of WizKids. "We're confident that our fans will love the new miniatures this line will have to offer."

The initial Starfinder offerings will include a Booster Set and Premium Set, and product will be available for sale worldwide. The first release is slated to hit shelves in 2020.

"Pathfinder Battles has been a stalwart of the Pathfinder RPG for years, and we're excited to see WizKids bringing that same expertise to the Starfinder universe," said Jim Butler, VP of Marketing and Licensing at Paizo. "With hundreds of aliens and scores of player-character races in the Starfinder RPG, the Starfinder Battles line is sure to expand your gaming tabletop for years to come."

We can't wait to share more details as they emerge!

I am already imagining a whole platoon of those Aeon Guards.

Disappointed no boosters, not gonna lie.

Me too.

But i am guessing these two packs are just "preview packs", like the "Pathfinder Battles: Legendary Adventures" preview pack and that (some or all) the minis in the "Monster pack" (or both packs) will also be in a later released full set.

Wizkids is probably not naming them "preview pack" to sell more of them.

They also may want to see how high pre-orders are, before deciding how many minis to produce in a full set.

I will be ordering one hero back and 4 Monster packs.

Damned if I'm not going to do that either.

Yeah encounters that use these minis have an tendency to come in 2-4 of them in Starfinder Society.

I think I'm going to go 1 and 2. (Or maybe 2 and 2).

Early on, those encounter packs always seem super-useful, but I'm guessing there'll be at least another goblin sculpt (for example) in the first "big set", whatever the format ends up being.

I think a desire for variety long term will trump the urgency of getting four identical goblins to use in the first six months or so.

Likewise. As much as I want starfinder minis (it's the game I GM and play the most these days), I won't be able to afford the listed price points for these products. In order to be useful for a GM, I'd need to do what Dragnmoon suggested, and to get other locals interested in "going in together" for a draft or something, the price points would need to be lower.

Unfortunate, and sad.

These two products have been renamed into "Galactic Heroes" & "Galactic Villains".

Personally i am going to buy the "Galactic Heroes" pack once and the "Galactic Villains" pack once or twice.

Why:
The Aeon Guard, Patrol-Class Security Robot & Contemplative are generic enough to use more than once.
The Space pirate, Goblin & especially the female Necrovite are too distinct looking to be of much use more than once.

I also don't like the static pose of most of the minis.
I would like the weapons to be more in an aimed Position.

MinisGallery lists Galactic Heroes and Galactic Villains as a July release. At well over $500, this might be the most expensive month ever for me purchasing RPG materials.

I hope we get a Starfinder minis subscription option soon!

I'd settle for Galactic Heroes and Galactic Villains having store pages.
