PaizoCon 2016 is Coming—Badges and Special Guests Announced!

Wednesday, February 3, 2016

Are you ready for PaizoCon? We are! Join us this year at PaizoCon 2016, where there will be 4 days of gaming, panels, workshops, costumes, and opportunities to be among the first to hear about future Paizo and Pathfinder projects. You'll be able to meet up with Paizo staff, community members and fans, as well as many authors, artists and designers from the gaming industry. This year we're also very proud to announce that our guests of honor will be Nicolas Logue and Tyler Walpole! You can learn more about them here.

What's this about badges? Well, for starters, you can (and should) go get one now! We're offering 4-Day Badges and 4-Day Kid's Badges, as well as Preview Banquet Tickets for PaizoCon 2016. PaizoCon 2015 con-goers may notice the absence of last year's Deluxe Badge option—instead of adding another level of complexity to the whole convention experience this year, we're offering $10 off the purchase of a badge and banquet ticket.

We also have good news for folks who want to just experience a single day of PaizoCon! Single Day Badges will be available in person at the PaizoCon convention store and are priced at $25 for adults and $15 for kids.

Because of the introduction of Single Day Badges, we've lifted the badge restriction off of Preview Banquet Tickets. However, you will need either a 4-Day Badge or Single Day Badge to enter the banquet event. Banquet tickets are available in limited quantities due to space needs and can sell out. So, if you want to experience the banquet and get at first look at what's new for Pathfinder and Paizo, don't hesitate!

If you have any questions about the PaizoCon 2016 (including badges/tickets or hotel information), please check our FAQ or visit the PaizoCon forum.

We're so excited for PaizoCon 2016 to get here and will be updating you with more information as the show gets closer. Folks who are waiting for the call for volunteers will see that crop up sometime this month. And if you've been waiting to submit an event, you can do that on the Event Submission page until February 29th.

Please understand I'm not trying to be a Debbie-Downer here, I'm just trying to provide you guys with some additional context for the thread. I'm also not saying that we will never have a fabric swag bag again, I'm just saying that it is a challenge.

I'd also submit that if I had to choose between X number of awesome items of swag in a snazzy canvas bag, and X + a few ADDITIONAL pieces of awesome swag in a normal old plastic bag, I think I'd opt for X + ADDITIONAL items of awesome swag in a normal plastic bag every time! :)

I disagree, though. I'd *need* a snazzy canvas bag to carry the original 'x' amount of swag home in. A plastic bag won't survive a flight home these days, especially with security being what it is at airports... :(

Nah! Just make sure you leave some room in your suitcase, or carry-on bag or whatever, when you first pack for the convention. Heck, if you also plan on buying stuff in the dealer room, you'll *definitely* need extra room!

I think we should let Paizo concentrate on putting on a great con and giving out lots of great swag - we're all smart enough to figure out the best, most efficient way to get all our goodies home, right? :)

Reasoned explanation for why fabric bag may have been a one-time thing...

Well, that is disappointing, but I get it. I had hoped that, because Erik Mona said the decision on bags wasn't really a financial one, that it would be a relatively easy thing to do something more interesting than the plastic one. But, Jeff being the COO, I expect he knows the financial aspects of the issue as well as anyone.

Another thing I hadn't understood was that the cloth bags were a 2013 thing only. That was my first PaizoCon, so I thought they had cloth bags in previous years, and had just switched to the plastic ones in 2014.

Anyway, thanks as always for doing what Paizo does - listening to the players, giving thoughtful answers, and making a great game. I still can't wait for PaizoCon!

I'm packing for seven days/six nights PLUS all the hardcovers I'll need PLUS all my character paraphernalia PLUS basic hygiene items. I'll be lucky to be able to fit that in my large suitcase without getting a hernia trying to move the thing....

Last year I bought one of the messenger bags (which I had wanted for a while, anyway), and used that to tote all our swag around - problem solved! :)

Your convention badge will have a barcode and be directly attached to your Paizo account. Any payment method you have there will be available at the store checkout.

That's not the case—while we *do* attach your store purchases to your paizo.com account, we don't have the ability to charge the cards you have on file. If we did that, anyone who could managed to convince us they're you would be able to buy stuff using your card, and that's not something we'll let happen!

Accepted forms of payment in the PaizoCon store are Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and US currency.

We do not take American Express.

Gah! I mixed up Discover and AMEX! Sorry.

I expect the schedule is still very much taking shape, but I'm trying to figure out travel plans and hoping to get a teeny sneak preview of the schedule. To wit, is there likely to be a Special on Friday night and Sunday night like last year?

I'm trying to decide between having my son go to school the whole day on Friday and flying in Friday early evening or pulling him out of school at lunchtime, so we can make it in time for a Friday Special.

So - will there be a unique PFS opportunity on Friday night, to justify damaging his educational prospects?

OMG guys! Canvas bag, plastic bag, bag made of goblin feces ... this is the best damn swag bag ANYWHERE.

Keep on being awesome Paizo!

Besides, I still have that awesome canvas bag (two really, I bring a minion)... I'll just bring that and fill it with all my good loot!

Really, what could possibly happen in that one day of school. From what I hear whenever I ask what they learned each day, "nothing", "same stuff"...

He's good. Take him out, the con is an education too.

You can get lesson plans in advance, perhaps, and teach your child the missing material so that they don't miss the information, and teach a lesson in responsibility?

Alternatively, if that's boring, I recall skipping the *first* day of school a few years ago because I'd (irony of ironies) gotten tickets to a local sporting event from a summer reading incentive at the local library.

Given the push for local literacy at the time, the principal himself signed off on the request...

Believe me, we have caused him to miss school plenty for otherwise enriching opportunities - I'm a big believer in the world being a great classroom. I'm just trying to ensure I've got a good reason for doing it yet again.

But that's a funny story, Wei Ji!

I suspect they will have a special again on Friday.

You'd better take him out of school early just in case.

If not, then, well, something else cool will happen.

The 2016 Event Submission form says, for both Friday and Sunday night time slots, "Events may overlap with PFS Special".

Ah, thank you for noting that and passing it on! I already followed the sage advice of those up-thread and changed our flights, but it's helpful to know there will be a special we'll now be in time for.

Random silver-lining sort story as a result of changing flights:

Last year my credit card got hacked and a bunch of fraudulent charges put on it. It's a mileage card, and the miles were apparently not deducted from my account when the fraudulent charges were reversed. So I recently learned that means I ended up with enough miles to qualify for a companion pass, so when I changed my flights, I discovered that my son could actually fly with me for free. Which he will do. So I'm coming earlier than originally planned, for a lot fewer gold pieces than expected. So something good actually came out of the damned, infuriating credit card hack!

Artifact from last year. I made this before any plans with Tonya were concrete which is why it says "may" overlap. This year Friday night is regular PFS gaming, no Special.

Argh! This means I changed my travel plans (which cost me nothing, and in fact saved me a bunch of money, per my spoilered story above) for no reason other than to get to play more PFS with my son and a bunch of awesome people at PaizoCon? Well, okay. Thanks for the info!
