Sweet - PaizoCon Preview Banquet. One of the things I most look forward to at PaizoCon. The food is fine, but we have about 50 tables full of rabid Paizonians cheering on the latest news is pretty sweet. Sadly, I can't ever describe the experience properly...forgive me.
I'm sitting at a table with Nani & Kyle Pratt (former yahoos of GA), David Shaw (current yahoo of GA), Jesper Ejsing (artist for the Emerald Spire, LoF AP), Sarah Robinson, & Chris Self. I cant complain. I thought I saw Kyle Baird at another table, but it was just a stack of plates.
Erik and Lisa open up the Preview with talking about the staff and what Paizo is doing and where they are going. It's amazing how much love they have for their teams. It's good to see.

JBulmahn to the mic to discuss the iconics and the new release. (You'll probably find better and more info on the Paizo Blog.) He discusses the Advanced Class Guide. Each class has 4 pages of archetypes.Jason liked the Magus because it blended two classes together. (Remember the glorious PFS maguses from yestermods, do you?) The Skald looks pretty hot. A new spell, bulletward, will stop gunslinger bullets.
Fall book: Monster Codex. 20 iconic monsters...much more info: ecology, new rules, unique spells, etc. Much like the Adv Race Guide & stat blocks. King and Queen Fire Giants look pretty vicious. If you're into artwork, it's gorgeous. (They have 3 huge display screens and they look great.)
Next book: Strategy Guide - late 2014. For the new players, help them learn the basics. Walks new players through the basics - combats, turns, etc. (I thought I saw a picture of Kyle Baird, but it was really just a smudged page number.)
Spring 2015: Pathfinder Unchained: 256 pages of WTF? Uhm..."what if the rules team could do whatever they wanted". It's a new set of rules and different things they could do stuff they wanted to do. New Summoner. Fixed Rogue. Full BAB Monk.
JB calls the book 'a playground'....you can use parts or all of it for a different experience.

I know I see people have issues with the Monk and Rogue. What issues did the Barbarian and Summoner face?
My suspicion is that it's not entirely about fixing underpowered things, but also fine tuning things and toning down some OP stuff (the summoner is somewhat OP, and a little flavorless) and the Barbarian has the capacity to ahem AM BARBARIAN.

Pathfinder Unchained seems interesting. I think it's one I'm going to be looking forward to.
I mostly like the current Barbarian and Summoner, but I'm interested in seeing what they do with the with the new versions.
The core Monk needs the tune-up, and the Rogue is currently outclassed at pretty much everything it's supposed to be able to do by at least one other thing, so I'm rather glad to see new versions of those two coming out (and will probably be using them if they fix things like I hope).

Any clues as to where Giant Slayer is set? I could see it in Varisia (Probably the most likely spot), Realm of the Mammoth Lords, the Land of the Linnorm Kings, Irrisen (somewhat unlikely), Crown of the World (unlikely but still possible), or Numeria (extremely unlikely what with it coming right after Iron Gods). Possibly other places too.

Additional 2014 Releases: Iron Gods.
Next AP: Giant Slayer. Hold of Belkzen. 3 big ass giants as the temporary artwork. They did not discuss much detail at all.

Erik introduced a slew of 3rd party and close publishers: the comic books, the toys, other figures, and whatnot. Sadly, it's just more than I can cover (and outside my main interest level).
Still working on the Lost Coast Pathfinder Battles set.

Barbarian's balance point was "When in rage, better than fighter."
The problem is that he can basically always be in rage.
The summoner... just causes a crap ton of balance issues. It's way too easy to make something way too good, and it's one of the only classes (if not the only) that can accidentally be made into something that makes everyone else useless.

I'm incredibly excited for Pathfinder Unchained. I actually want it more than any other book Paizo's published since the Advanced Player's Guide.
While it could possibly be a testing ground for 2.0, I get the feeling its more of a "Unearthed Arcana" for Pathfinder. At least, that's what I get from the description of it.

Instead of a playground, it could be just a stealth Pathfinder 2.0. Where they test the waters and say here are variants of the core classes, you use them instead of the core. Then over the years you end up with a system where a new rogue and old barbarian and and Archanist it's all play well beside each other. The core of the d20 system, as we have seen, is very adaptable to new mechanics. So there need never be a v2.0, just a continuous spectrum of compatible rule variants.

I tend to agree with Gal, though I don't think we need the word, "stealth" to discuss it. With that said, it is early :)

Between the Advanced Class Guide, the Strategy Guide, and now Unleashed, looks like Paizo's putting in place a very solid foundation to keep PF 1.0 alive for the foreseeable future.
As much as I wish they could go ahead and rewrite the thing from the ground up for a simpler, better-organized and better-integrated system, I can understand why that wouldn't be a great idea and in the meantime these patches are still very much appreciated.
Especially the Strategy Guide, if it turns out as well as I'm hoping. Anything to bring down the cost of entry for new players. I'm a couple sessions into running a Mummy's Mask game for 3 relatively new and 4 entirely new players, and I'm dearly wishing I had the Strategy Guide to give them.

Honestly, hearing that the summoner is on this makes me worried. While the spell list does need to be looked at, I'm afraid they are going to remove the "Build a Monster" aspect of the summoner. And that's the part of the summoner I liked most. I like tinkering with the monster and making cool eidolons. If they remove that and just have base outsiders you can summon, I think I'll stick with the original summoner.
The other stuff sounds cool though.

As much as I like build your own monster I would like a summoner like Final Fantasy X were you have a list of creatures. You can have only one out at a time but can change wich one you have a couple of times per day or some other limited mechanic like 1 minute summons, etc. They would have base stats like an animal companion(and be modified by your level) though it would be nice if we expand the creature type limitation because fey, magical beast, plants, and constructs would be cool.
