Queen of Thorns Tops Locus Bestsellers!

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

Congratulations to author Dave Gross for topping the Locus Magazine bestseller list!

Dave's characters of Radovan and Jeggare have been a lynch pin of the Pathfinder Tales line since its inception. From the very first time I opened one of Dave's manuscripts, I knew that the brilliant Count Varian Jeggare and his streetwise sidekick Radovan were exactly what I'd always been looking for without knowing it: two characters that burst with life, an odd-couple team every bit as compelling as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. It's been a pleasure to watch them grow over the course of the series, and to see readers fall in love with them the same way I have. To now see their latest novel, Queen of Thorns, hit #1 on the Locus bestseller list is hugely satisfying, and a confirmation of something I've believed since the beginning: that these two characters—and their author—are the sort of storytellers that weasel their way into a reader's heart and leave you anxious for more.

The next Pathfinder Tales novel from Dave Gross, King of Chaos will be available in August 2013.

Thanks for the kind words.

I think what it means is that Pathfinder Tales is finally getting some notice, which is great because it's a strong, diverse line.

Also, next time any of the Pathfinder Tales authors has a signing, try to attend and buy a book. There are great reasons to buy them from Paizo or via Amazon, but to my mind nothing beats rewarding a local retailer for stocking the line. Plus, if you hang out for drinks afterward, you get to tell someone about your character.

Congrats, and well earned!

Good for you, Dave! Your Pathfinder Tales novels broke a years-long streak of my not reading or being able to finish reading fiction, and I owe you a lot of enjoyment for that.

Congratulations! Definitely well-deserved.

This is as it should be. The line deserves success, and Dave tops the list for why in my book. Congrats to Dave, Sutter, and all involved.

Hey, where did Drizzt go?

Awesome! Congratulations Dave and the Pathfinder Tales Line.

Now if we could just get a book signing in the Northeast (preferably New England area), I'd bring my books (and buy a new one at the retailer).

Great book and Congrats!

Put the UK on your book signing tour as well. I can't have you sign my ebook, but I will buy hard copies for the whole family at the store. Or better yet, you could hitch a ride with Mike and join us all for PaizoConUK!

It has been far too long since I've visited New England or the UK.

If you're in Ohio, man, there's no excuse not to come visit at Gen Con.

BTW, if you're interested in my other work, please follow me @frabjousdave on Twitter. You can find me at the same username on Facebook. I feel discourteous posting announcements of non-Paizo fiction here, but there will be a few soon.

Great news!

It's Dave's books converted me to a Tales subscriber!

(and I'm on my third person I've gifted a copy of Prince to get them started)

I don't remember where I got the impression that Elaine Cunningham was a Northeastern US local, but when you get the chance to come out our way, if you can swing convincing her to attend a book signing too, I'll bring my copy of Winter Witch along with all my Radovan/Jeggare books (except the most recent, I'll buy that one at the retailer).

I will have to look back through my old posts. I remember chatting with someone on the boards who works at a B&N in Worcester, MA...

Elaine has been getting back into attending NE conventions lately, so your chances of finding her at a signing are improving. I even hear she might show up to Gen Con this year, so there's the first time we'll be in the same place at the same time in well over 10 years.

Also, for the next little while I'm bringing an envelope of bookplates Elaine has pre-signed to any convention I attend. I'll sign beside her autograph for anyone who has a copy of Winter Witch. Next stops are the Calgary Comic Expo and MisCon.

In a couple of weeks, I'll pick up some bookplates to send back her way, so she can do the same.

I'll have to spend a little time looking for conventions in my area to see if I can find out where she will be.

Even better, I'll glance at her webpage periodically to see if she has any announcement there. I notice that I missed a Portland, CT appearance on March 9th.

Thanks for the kick in the tuckus, Dave! :)
