Let Me Be Your Armor, Let Me Be Your Shield

Spellcasters are the focus of legend and envy. Weapon masters are flashy and famous. Armor masters?

Armor masters are survivors.

The reason the best offense is a good defense is the undefended die, which tends to end any effort at offense. The life of adventurers, crusaders, and champions of any cause is filled with dangers and enemies. Hammers seek to crush heads, spears seek to pierce flesh. Unless you've mastered some esoteric fighting style likely to allow you to dodge crossbow bolts, or have the skill (and time) to defend yourself with spells, you need armor. And anything you depend on to save your life is worth learning to master.

So who are the armor masters of the Inner Sea?

The horse tribe nomads of Karazh have learned to balance the weight of their armor in the saddle, so it does not hamper their skilled riding.

The Knights of Arnisant follow in the footsteps of the famous general who was crucial to the defeat of the Whispering Tyrant. They depend on their shields to guard not just their bodies, but also their minds and souls against incorporeal undead, curse-flinging witches, and the death magic of necromancers.

The Kortos Cavalry are Absalom's only mounted troops, protecting the island's hinterlands as well as the Westgate district and training to fight to the last.

The yojimbos are samurai dedicated to protecting others, and their resolve is not focused on just their own needs. Each can act as a living shield, standing between a chosen ally and a deadly foe, but through force of will can also inspire an ally to overcome fatigue, or at higher levels allow and ally to stave off fear, nausea, and even death.

And anyone trusting armor from leather to plate can learn at least a few armored tricks to help themselves survive, whether it's combinging the power of your attacks with the weight of your armor with Intense Blow, expending stamina to more effectively use Redirect Attack, or just learning to fight from rafters and walls while wearing an arachnid harness.

Hip-hip-hooray!

Second sentence of next to last paragraph should say "allow an ally" instead of "allow and ally".

...Is that a Pathfinder version of the Iron Spider?

Is it just me or does Meri have a kinda Bea Arthur-ish expression here?

Sovereign Court

I'm sorry.... I am just so excited about a bodyguard Samurai archetype. New character incoming.

That was exactly my thoughts as well. All I could think of was that Iron Spider is now canonically in Golarion, and it absolutely made my day. Now we just need webshooters or the ability to shoot webs as a 0 level cantrip like the 3.0 psionics psychic warrior book did.

Like a wildsoul Vigilante perhaps....

Kind of, but that's more Sam Raimi's Peter Parker and less 100% completely human Amadeus Cho. If you could somehow harness that arachnid ability into a device, then it'd be closer to his character.

Also, I was a little disappointed that the arachnid wildsoul archetype still needs slippers of spider climbing to wall crawl.

And apparently assumes Spider Man is a 20th level character given how slowly you get the proper abilities.

Reminds me of May Reilly, Lady Spider of (Marvel) Earth-803.

Dark Archive

Got mine in the mail today. Flipped it open to a random page and found two different things I liked. Kind of my stress test for any given book, open to random page see how well it's written and if anything sparks my interest.

At least 20th level. Vigilantes don't all have evasion. Spidey definitely does.

Uh...Stalkers can have it at 2nd level. And Improved Evasion at 12th. And you get all the abilities Spidey has by 18th, not 20th.

Nor is the idea of Superheroes being high level especially ridiculous. I mean, I think 18th is a little high, but I'd peg him at 12th-15th at a minimum.

Yes, normal ones can, but not arachnid wildsouls. Might be able to get it at 4th. I am a little confused about how that interacts with the arachnid wildsoul since at 2nd, 6th, 12th, and 18th level, they gain spider abilities, replacing the standard talents. I'm guessing that regardless you can take of access to talents you should get Improved Evasion automatically.

But I do see the point about being 18th level vs 20th. I guess Spidey wouldn't have the Vengeance Strike. That's not his style.

Spiderman has been able to websling since he first started out, and I highly doubt you'll find a good way to justify that he's ALWAYS been 18th level.

What's confusing? It advances at 12th. When you get it and what else you get at that level have no effect on that.

But yeah, I guess he'd need to wait until 4th for it.

Probably not, no.

18th? No, but as I said earlier I wouldn't put him that high at all...but I would put him in the double-digits even starting out. Possibly with a Template of some sort to boot. Superheroes are powerful.

Woo-hoo! Assemblage 23 getting some love. That song was our theme song for years during Council of Thieves AP. The party named their freedom fighting troupe "Shield of Westcrown." Brought back great memories seeing that header. Lol, my wife says it's stuck in her head now.
