Danu Opening: Chapter 1:

The massive spinning circular tensors gain speed. Fields of electricity glide on the three tensors which twist against each other. The tensors soon create a sphere of pulsating power. "The Projector will present the target's time and position." Angela shouts over the noise of the Projector to the visiting financiers. "The closest we can target is Ten thousand years ago. So. The target will be Stonehenge."

Angela adjusts the console to focus in on the target. She gets an image that manifests within the Projector. Several people are there. All of them recite the same prayer in unison. Angela looks down and sees that all the sensors are being recorded to a US military hard-drive (Not available in stores yet). Angela always loved the capitalist nature of the Yanks. The sound of the payers settle deeper into her mind. A bearded old man looks up and locks eyes with Angela. She stares at him for a few seconds.

"How can he do that?" She asks of no one. The Projector was designed to observe the past, like a camera's photograph. The old man calls out her name then other words, in what she assumes is an ancient Gaelic tongue. Angela, mouth slack, gazes in amazement. The old man raises his hand then clenches his fist.

Angela sees the Projector moving to a different target. she looks down to see where the new adjustment is. The console shoots out sparks. She raises her arm to protect her eyes. In the Projector, A scene of fire, and the smell of brimstone emerge from within. A red humanoid beast with massive horns, within the projection, sees the opening. It flies through what is now a portal.

It's massive claws start ripping people limb from limb. The beast stares at Angela while eviscerating a technician. His face buries deep into Angela's brain. Angela's mind is minimally lucid for moments. She pulls the hard-drive.

The Face. Mindlessness.

She watches the vault door close, as she barely escapes. Another behind her, one of the financiers, gets his arm crushed by the sealing door. His hand drops off to the floor in a bleeding spasm.

The Face. Mindlessness.

She climbs the stairs with difficulty. For support, Angela grabs the handrails and leans her shoulder against the wall.

The Face. Mindlessness.

She regains focus. She grabs the steering wheel hard. Angela finds it crazy to believe that in her madness, she kept the car on the road. The scientist looks over at the car's passenger seat. The hard-drive was with her.

Angela was in no mood to return to the underground research facility. The inventor paused and focused herself. She knew of someone who could help translate the words that she recorded. "I'm sure he's forgiven me enough" She says.

@CT: Most excellent :)

@All: Okay I'm close to calling this one. Plan is to finalise our group of disparate heroes then we'll move to the campaign discussion thread.

Have been taking notes on characters - both for campaign/setting tie in and also build notes - as I'll likely suggest a few alterations to those open to refining their PCs a little more.

I'm also building up our setting and flavour material which will all be in the campaign tab when we shift to Phase 2. At this point we'll also look at origin stories and tie-in references to campaign material also :)

Once settled on that I get all my ducks in a row Phase 3 (Gameplay) should commence but it'll be at a week or so from finalising our heroes.

BD, should I roll my HTC/HTK now, or wait till if I'm selected?

Also, is Dex capped at 18? The charts for Str and Vig go way beyond, but the one for Dex only has up to 18.

One last question: Should I consider maybe boosting my Ego, or is 13 good enough for a character who lacks mental/magic powers?

Hey MG

Up to you mate - you can go ahead and roll or wait until the final roster. HTK/HTC numbers won't have much bearing on my selection, but it might help with power picks if you feel your lacking.

Yeah DEX is maxed @ 18 - but you can improve your Strike Mod to higher through power selections, DUP spend ect.

EGO 13 is very decent as its essentially your saving throw vs mental attacks etc. 13 is a good (non-specialist) value.

Hey MG - for your Previous Training I'd be inclined to do +2 DEX to push that to 18. Will mean you're more likely to hit with fist/foot and frost :)

For your two remaining power rolls you have choice of bumping up your Energy Attack by 1 to Grade 2 and by virtue of this you can select Energy Immunity (Ice/Cold) as a free selection... OR... bump up his Energy Attack by 1 and Vigour by 1 again to Grade 2. Would mean he can dish it out and absolutely take it (but isn't immune to his own Energy Attack which can be a bummer if reflected back at you...)

Conversely you can roll two new powers...

Power Roll: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8

Halved +4 = 8

Ego: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6) = 9
Strength: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4) = 14
Dexterity: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3) = 12
Vigour: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 5) = 14

Superpower 1: 1d100 ⇒ 86 Vigour 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Superpower 2: 1d100 ⇒ 16 Energy Attack 1d10 ⇒ 2 Heat/Flame

Superpower 3: 1d100 ⇒ 55 Psi Powers (Takes 2 rolls)

Psi Powers: 1d10 ⇒ 7Telempathy
Psi Powers: 1d10 ⇒ 1Control
Psi Powers: 1d10 ⇒ 2Hallucinations

Superpower 4: 1d100 ⇒ 29 Force Field 1d6 ⇒ 4

Superpower 5: 1d100 ⇒ 16 Energy Attack Upgrade

Spend 1 roll to upgrade Psi Powers

Spend 1 roll on a gimmick yet to be determined.

Psi Power: 1d10 ⇒ 3 Mind War

These rolls aren't terrible. They are reminding me of the Firestarter movie/novel from Stephen King. Firestarting and immunity to fire, force field to fend off attacks, pushing emotions, control, hallucinations, and mind war. I can see this character being the peak success of a program like MK Ultra, either an American agent/escapee/refugee or the result of a similar MI-6 experiment.

Danu Opening: Chapter 2:

Angela knocks on the tan painted townhouse door. She switches to the doorbell and rings several times. She can hear muted protest from behind the closed portal. It opens. Inside stands a relatively handsome bloke who is dressed in pajama bottoms and a concert t-shirt with Led Zeppelin stenciled on the front. The man blinks at the woman.

"Anna. Huh." He says in surprise. "Never expected to see you again."

"Yeah. I'm sorry that you had lost your position." Angela responds. "I had no idea that my papa would show up to the dorm."

"I lost the school director job, because I'm a moron. I accept that. But I was really a complete moron to think that you loved me." He said in accusation.

She slips in under Max's arm. "Look. I need your help. And my papa payed the bills. I couldn't afford the tuition otherwise."

"Come on in." Max says in sarcasm while closing the door. "Tea?" He asks.

Angela nods while looking around the house. The scientist notices a brand new Apple Macintosh. Surprised, she puts down the hard-drive on the couch. "Nice computer." She states.

Max is busy settling the kettle onto the stove. "Took a bit to save. Do you want ta know what a librarian makes?" He quickly answers his own question. "Not much."

"Well at least you work in air-conditioning." Angela says to emphasize a blessing.

Max looks at her with some frustration. "What do you want Anna? Why are you here?"

Angela retrieves a toolbox from her car. She explains what had just happened to her in her laboratory in England. She details all the events and that the hard-drive holds the proof. She says it all while trying link the computer, the hard-drive, and the television, in order to show Rex. And, at last, she mentions the demon.

Rex looks at her incredulously. She just tells him to watch.

"Where's the demon?" He asks.

"The electronics all shorted out when it arrived." She replied.

"Convenient." Max says.

"No, Not even a little." Angela says in a frustrated tone. "Look, What is the old man saying?" She queries.

Max rewinds and listens a few times. "The prayer is giving glory to the goddess Danu. I believe the are asking for her protection." Max again replays the Old Man's comments directed at Angela. "It's hard to do a translation off the top of my head, But I believe he is saying that you..." He points at Angela. "...Are the herald of destruction? Not really sure."

Max grabs his notes on the Gaelic language.

Angela makes a cassette recording of the Stonehenge prayers. She asks about the goddess, and Rex points her to a book on the shelf, The Gaelic Mythology. "I need to do something. I feel in my heart that I need to pray for Danu's protection. I'm driving to Stonehenge."

"Who would have guessed that you'd have a heart." He comments back.

Danu Opening: Chapter 3:

Max drove and listened to the cassette player. Angela reads about Danu in the passenger seat. After a few hours, not long before sunrise. They reach Stonehenge. As they get near the structure, Max elucidates on his conclusion. "Well, I think the old man was really saying, that you were the herald of renewal."

Anna walks to the near center of Stonehenge. "That's better than being Mrs. Destruction." She quips.

"Glad to see that you finally got married." He says.

Anna bristles a little then kneels in prayer. She repeats the prayer, while not sure what will happen. A mild wind passes over the surrounding stone. She continues for a bit before stopping and feeling discouraged.

"Hey. For a prayer, You have to have faith." Max says as a way to help.

"You could help with the praying as well." Unconsciously adding someone else to blame in case of failure.

They pray.

Danu can feel her power and authority being pulled to earth by mortal prayers.

Her flesh forms beneath where the ancient altar used to be. The dirt and grass pass aside her new form. The silvery Maelstrom pushes up her form. Her arms are spread-out like an upside down 'V'. Her hair is bright red with a relaxed curl. Yet somehow her hair looks like she is in water. It cover her head like a Lion's mane. Her skin is white and without blemish. Her body is a representation of fertile hips, a small waist, and breasts that could feed many children. Her face is serine.

Maelstrom's tendril touches Angela's face.*

"Why have I been called?" Danu asks. Her face placid. Maelstrom adopts dark blue tone.

*Adding a power to learn worshippers language by touch. Since we'll be campaigning in English forever. One time is the only use. Hope it's cool.

@BD I hope this helps the storyline.

Alright gang - need a quick roll-call of whose still here and still interested.

We have more submissions than I have envisioned so before I start deciding on the heroes we're taking forward just want to gauge if by natural selection I have the 6-7 I envisaged.

I could take 8 but if we go down that route then we'll need to drop some Power Levels down to compensate for the larger group.

I could up the power levels or numbers of your foes, but huge pitched battles happen in landmark issues or Giant Sized Annuals, so would rather keep the scenarios streamlined and challenging without making every villain an uber threat.

Appreciate RL gets in the way and spreading yourself thin in PBP games is a very real headache (I know I'm not the only game in town lol).

So quick check in and we'll take it from there :)

I am here!

Standing by.

I'm still here. I had a rather busy, but very awesome weekend, so totes understand ILR gettin in the way sometimes.

Apologies for not doing much with an actual background just yet. I had wanted to wait to see if I was picked, and maybe work on tying that into the group somehow along with the overall setting of the game.

Still here

Alright gang - this has been a very tough decision but I've looked over the concepts and where there's overlap in powers in relation to individual or unique schticks. I've also considered the backgrounds pitched thus-far and how they fit against the world setting and campaign I'm building.

So our newly minted Golden Heroes are:

* Pauljathome - Sysgofd
* JubalBreakbottle - Bulwark/Storm Knight
* SuperTumbler - "Chain Punk"
* Ridge - White Face
* Malinor - Jaguar
* Crimson King - Photon
* Monkeygod - "Ice Cold"

Huge commiserations to the dynamic duo that I don't have room for (right now).

@ira: Swift Scepter was a cool character but shared too many powers with other pitches - so you were unlucky in that respect.

@Cucumbertree: Was a tough call for me to make - you put in a heap of work, but Danu just didn't merge into my overall vision for the campaign like the others did. She's very powerful and probably would be better suited to a Mutants & Masterminds game where you can let her truly showcase her power array in a broader sense as she's a great concept.

I massively appreciate the creativity and please know you'll both be on notice should someone drop out.

To the Lucky 7 - Please report to the OOC thread folks for Phase 2!

Good luck to everyone who made it.

Yeah, I saw that superspeed sluggers were becoming common. Rather than 'roll up' something else, I just stayed with it.

Coming up with new characters is pretty fun, in and of itself.
If you have a dropout, and need someone else, the dice gods are available to me.

Please feel free to use Swift Scepter as a nuisance in your campaign -- he's obviously just full of himself. Not necessarily evil, just a nuisance.

Cheers Ira - appreciate you were very much in the running and will keep you in mind as/when/if we lose someone.

okie dokey. I'm sure Danu won't curse you. maybe.

good luck all

Thank you very much!

@CT: I will duly make appeasing offerings to the goddess. As I touched on above Danu would make a great Mutants & Masterminds pitch. Kudos.

Yay. OK, where is this OOC thread?
