Varis looks in wonder, approaching the staff.
"Impressive. Fascinating." he reaches up for the staff then retracts the arm back
"But many Seekers were ready to resort to arcane magic in order to simulate the gods influence." he looks around, looking for the statue of Paladine and he goes there making obeissance in front of it.
"Lord of the Dragons, bless this endeavor so your faithful can bask in the glory. Help me protect these valiant souls in their quest to bring your light back into the world."
Looking back, he frowns at the remaining burns from dragons acid.
"Goldmoon, what happened here originally? Can you re-enact the event when you received the staff?"
He cleans himself as he can "Anyone have a healing potion? That dragon got in a direct hit."
Crack-jawed Ahto
"Imagine living in an age where these gods provided magic that actually healed," Ahto muses, as glances around at the array of statues. "No stitches, poultices, or vile concoctions proffered by snake-oil merchants. If that magic existed a few years ago, I wouldn't have this," he adds, gesturing to the spiderweb scar running across his face.
Crack-jawed Ahto
Ahto turns quickly towards the unfamiliar voice, hand going to the hilt of his sword. He reflexively shifts into a fighting stance, and scans the area for the speaker.

Drakkor Redmane
Drakkor looks skeptical...
"I don't know how many years of silence since the cataclysm, and now an actual goddess deigns to speak to us NOW. Here...? Can you maybe elaborate on this? Where have you all been? Why come back NOW? Why have dragons returned too?"

Varis looks in silence, hopeful, but knowing that many times Seekers go through elaborate charades to fool the gullible. Still, this looks very convincing and he repeats the prayer to Paladine
Varis, you hear a small voice saying, "We are back to restore the Balance."
Crack-jawed Ahto
Ahto watches the others' awed responses with suspicion.
The Seekers were con men who used faith, hope, and fear to control people, and fleece them for every coin. How do we know these talking statues aren't the work of some backwoods conjurer using magic to hoodwink us? he thinks to himself.
Crack-jawed Ahto
Ahto looks to Goldmoon. "What now? The staff has been returned. You have been given the medallion. Does your goddess wish for us to slay the dragon?"
Crack-jawed Ahto
"I don't like it either, Drakk," Ahto replies with a resigned sigh. "But we know the dragon's here, and we know it's dangerous. If we can kill it, we should."
Varis Duskbane
Ahto watches the others' awed responses with suspicion.
Awed is a little strong for hopeful, but suspicious responses that were described
Varis looks around the team.
"If this is some Seeker charade, he somehow got hands on a real dragon...or really powerful illusions that can burn."
He points to his acid burns
"Besides, it is not a stretch that if one god can return and bring evil dragons, that others can and just need an invitation. "
Looking up at the Paladine statue "I've never lost faith, I looked into various reports and Cults throughout the years, kept The Measure of the Knights and rituals of Paladine as is proper for The Knight.
This doesn't look like a cult simply because there is no point in setting up this kind of thing in place where there are no faithful to see it. And the dragon! I understand that you are sceptical, but even if you look at this completely faithless, it seems better than most schemes."
He look at the group, then statue of Paladine, then the staff.
"I need healing and no one said anything about healing potions. And that would be one feat to convince the sceptical. Goldmoon, may I try the staff? It may be the focus to this tentative connection. Or maybe you could try with your holy symbol? I will seek Paladine blessing."
Turning back to the statue of Paladine he beseeches his patron in the Old Tongue"I realize the return may take time. I will do my best as always. Help your faithful and strengthen the sceptical here. Bless me, Lord, as you see fit."
Varis channels fervor into the statue

Goldmoon stretches out her hand. "Be thou healed, Sir Varis." And Varis is healed.

Drakkor Redmane
Staring at genuine magical healing for the first time in centuries, Drakkor steps back a bit.
"Damn! That looked real. How are you feeling? Hale and whole?"

Varis looks in wonder
"Definitely better, not whole yet, but healed nonetheless. Praise the Gods of Good, lets see if we can bring them fully into the world!"He raises his hand to Drakkor to stop the objection
"I know this might be an ancient item that healed me with some old power. But if this is a ruse, it is still good enough to follow up. Have faith, my sceptical friend, the gods will return, it is just a matter of time."
