So which door are you going to go through?

![]() |

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
"I don't see anything...I want to see that which I cannot see!"

![]() |

Thornrose moves in and proposes opening door to the right. He tries to listen if anything is making noises in the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

![]() |

There is no sound from the other side and this door is locked.

![]() |

No traps, no wards, still locked.

![]() |

That fails to unlock it.

![]() |

Black Sun begins gingerly feeling the sides of the enigmatic door for herself.
"Perhaps it is time we go back? I still want to know if that iron lump is magical!"
OTOH, any chance of squeezing past this door with a good enough Escape Artist check?

![]() |

It's time to go ahead! We are sure we will have other doors. Who knows, maybe there are keys there. Alecto points her finger at the serpentine corridor.

![]() |

I'm not sure how you could use EA to get through a door.
As well as this door(1), there is the secret door straight ahead of you(2), a door to the left just around the corner(3), and a door at the end of the corridor(4).
And no - the lump of iron isn't magical.

"Hold on a moment and let me try my fork pick. I think there is a special lever that I need jimmy to get it open." Ebonfeather said, reaching for a tool and giving it a shot.
Reroll Disable Device: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27
Using my reroll for having a hard copy player character folio. I suspect that a 27 opens it.
"CLICK!" echoed through the room. "Sometimes they can be tricky" the rogue said, placing the tools back in their respective pouches.

![]() |

That is just enough to do it ((DC was 25)). Rows of iron bars anchored in the floor and ceiling divide this room into three smaller cells. Two of the cells are empty, but a gaunt, black-haired man in the tattered robes of a mage lies on a simple straw pallet in the southern cell. It is clear he has been beaten into unconsciousness.

Make a Heal check Garsita

![]() |

That's just enough to bring that man to consciousness. He is grateful for your assistance and promises to reward you once he returns home.

Picture added to the slides
My name is Jharun, and I am a wizard of the Goldenfire Order in Thornkeep. My colleague Tiawask and I came to the Emerald Spire two weeks ago—perhaps three or four weeks by now—to explore the dungeons. Unfortunately, we were defeated by a brass minotaur and dragged before its master, a Numerian wizard named Klarkosh.
He accused us of spying on him and threw us in these cells, but Tiawask escaped—she’d managed to conceal a potion of gaseous form in her boot. She promised to go get help, but that was days and days ago, and she hasn’t returned. I don’t know if she even made it all the way out.

![]() |

"Neat, I will have to keep that trick in mind. Brass minotaur? As in one made of the metal or colored brass, like the dragons? Was it on this level? " Ebonfeather asked.
"What does she look like in case she is still here?." he added.

![]() |

There's not much more he can tell you, save for a description of his companion. Jharun knows little of the level layout, since he and
Tiawask were defeated by the brazen minotaur and he was hooded when he was dragged into Klarkosh’s workshop. He can describe Klarkosh well (“a tall
Numerian, half his face covered in gold”), and he can also describe the wizard’s workshop (“a strange room filled with metal consoles and partially assembled automatons”).

![]() |

That is certainly a trick to remember...potion in the boot. Carlin nods in approval.
Judging by your condition, you should wait for us to return..then we can head back to the top together.
just got internet back again..changing providers this week i think...getting pissed

![]() |

"I ain't afraid of any minotaurs! Once I rescued Janira Gavix from a real flesh minotaur so I could say I'm prepared." the leshy brags "But we will Tiawask you're safe if we meet her."

![]() |

He looks a bit reassured and will wait outside this level. He currently is low on hps and has no spells.
So, where to now?

![]() |

Door 2 - the secret door - is locked.

![]() |

No magic detected.

![]() |

By the way! Strictly speaking, is there anything stopping us from going out, stocking up on resources and coming back? These ruins have been here for a long time.

![]() |

[ooc]Strictly speaking - no. What is it you want to do?[/b]

![]() |

> wish I knew the knock spell
I thought if someone had the money to buy a wand, it would be a good idea. Or everyone could buy 1 scroll, for example.

![]() |

Disable Device: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17
Ebonfeather frowned as he started to mutter a few choice words in Infernal whilehe attempted to unlock the door. "Sorry, I am not having any luck with it. We may need to head elsewhere. "

![]() |

"Or perhaps," Interjects a small voice behind Ebonfeather, "It is the door that needs to head elsewhere...?!"
How sturdy does the door look?
For whatever they're worth:
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28

![]() |

Now that you know it's there, it looks rather solid - like the rest of the stone wall.

![]() |

"Shall we explore further down the corridor? We might, if we have luck, find the key." Thornrose says and wades north

![]() |

That is just enough to do it.
This bedchamber is furnished with a desk and plush chairs, a large bed strewn with pillows, a thick carpet, and hanging tapestries in scarlet and gold. A fire crackles in an iron stove in one corner.

![]() |

A faint aura comes from the coffer on the desk. Also, if you close this door, you'll need a perception check to see it from this side as well. An obvious door is in the NE corner.

![]() |

Carlin grabs a piece of chalk from a pouch at her waist.
This will make it easier for us to find the door... she says as she outlines it and puts an arrow beside it with "Door here" in fancy writing.
There...now...there is something in that box...no magic wards..but could still be trapped... she says as she focuses on the aura.
trying for type of magic for now...

![]() |

No type of magic stands out

![]() |

Perception, for what it's worth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Assuming the above check doesn't give me reason not to, Black Sun tries gingerly lifting the lid of the coffer open with the tip of her enchanted spear.
I would've been nice if Basic Chaokinesis included some kind of mage hand-like effect (maybe a little stronger in exchange for being harder to control?).
