Sorry again about the slow posts this week, real life has been doing as it does.
As for Lita's nightmares, I've mentioned her having them about fires, either being trapped in them or setting them herself. In addition to that, I think a lot of the fears that would show up in her nightmares, the stuff that really gets to her the worst, is the fear that deep down, people were right about her. Demon-blooded tieflings are known for destructive urges, and while she's tried to turn any that she might have to productive things, she's terrified that one day, she's going to break something or hurt someone in anger and realize that she likes it. She's still extremely Paladin about it, so in practice this mostly winds up being her convinced that she's secretly evil or irredeemable or something because she finds it satisfying to fight someone who's being cruel.

DM-Salsa |

No worries. I know it happens. :)
And that could be a lot of fun to play with, but as I said in an earlier post, I'm going to have y'all write those up. It just avoids the issues that Dare pointed out.

DM-Salsa |

I've added the information I posted about initiative, rolls, and crits to the campaign tab. It also includes some information about rolling knowledge checks since that came up in the other game. Short version is if you don't know what to roll, roll a d20 and list out your Knowledge modifiers for each topic you want to know about. I've taken calculus, so addition doesn't really scare me. :P

DM-Salsa |

Allow me to also offer my congratulations to the happy couple. Not many make it to 50 years together.

DM-Salsa |

No post tonight. I need to mentally reset and focus on getting a good night's sleep. Apologies.

DM-Salsa |

Posting this here so everyone can see it.
No post tonight. Still recovering form Wednesday night where I got exactly zero sleep, plus some other fun stuff with a snake and looking for things to deal with said snake just after finding out that yes, I do in fact have ADD (I'm fine, been dealing with it for years well enough that I was never tested as a kid. I just have the diagnosis now. :P)
I'll try to get a post up this weekend to move things forward.

AdamWarnock |

I'll have to post it when I have a chance to write it all. Short version, my family and I live near a creek and a snake got in my mom's backyard where the dogs cornered it. I wound up borrowing a shotgun to take care of it, but by the time I got back to my mom's, it was gone.
Keep in mind, it's less than a minute to get from my mom's to my house, to everywhere else I went, so it wasn't like I was gone all that long.
Also wanted to post it's going to take longer than I had thought to get back into the saddle here. I've been working on getting some personal stuff straightened out and getting some long overdue things done around my house, and while I have definitely made progress, I'm still a long way from done. I'm trying to change some habits and that doesn't happen over night.
Thank you for your patience. I know it's frustrating so soon after we started to have a pause in the game, but I promise you that I will come back and get things going again. It's just going to take longer than I thought it would.

No worries, sir. Cailyn could forget we are hear to save the world and come over to start chatting about where we should go for lunch. She has heard something about a 'Hagfish' and is curious.

Dare Ashborn |

"Shall we rid the town of an ancient pervasive evil or shall we have some smoked salmon and nibbly things?"

Dare Ashborn |

The timing of this has gotten screwy but just assume Dare's chatting at a point when Joanna's not quite available yet. (I was just trying to get that thread tied up.)

Cailyn Vanderale |

Yes sir, in discord he stated:
"Hey all, just wanted to give y'all a heads up. I'll probably be another week before I start catching back up with my games. Thank you for your patience."
That was... four days ago, so hopefully soon :)

Hey all, thank you so much for your patience. My goal for this coming week is to catch up and get a post up. I don't know if I'll succeed, since I still have a good bit I'm trying to get done around the house, but the good news is that I've made more progress than I feared I would, so yay for that. The bad news is that I didn't make as much as I wanted, and it'll be a while before I get everything done.
All of that is to say, I'll be getting the ball rolling again, however slowly it may be for the next little while. Again, thank you all for your patience while I've been working on other things. :)

Dare Ashborn |

Once it's her turn, Dare should be able to finish both these guys off with a burning hands, so can I go right after they do?

DM-Salsa |

No post tonight, and probably not tomorrow either. Sorry all. Too tired and not in the right headspace.

I'll be travelling to attend a conference from Thursday to Sunday. Will perhaps manage to get a quick post in, but probably won't have access to my computer. Bot me if needed!

DM-Salsa |

No worries. I've been slow with updates. Take care of yourself and we'll be here when you get back. :)

DM-Salsa |

Sorry, but no post from me tonight. I just ran out of time. I'll try to post tomorrow.

Apropos of nothing, I keep forgetting to ask:
Can I change my background skill "Lore (Evocations)" into "Lore (the Fire Element)"?
I'm thinking Dare, surviving a fire and yet also elementally imbued with fire, has tried to learn everything she can about fire, both how it works naturally (i.e., the basic physics/chemistry of combustion, but from a layperson's perspective) and key aspects about it as one of the Four Elements (the gist of the elemental plane, who lives there, and some basics of how it interacts with other elements).
===
On another note, to further note her interaction with the redhead: After leaving the orphanage, Dare grew up in the back of... probably a place nicer than the Feedbag but a similar sort of flophouse/bar. She would have likely befriended the prostitutes and any of the boss's "companions" and seen them in a similar class of service. (She just uses her body to serve in a different way than sex, namely taking damage.) So when she came to Sandpoint she likely also aimed to get on friendly terms with them--or at least not made clear she was not going to create problems for them (and she'd look out for them if a drunken customer was asking for more than they were paying for and they needed assistance). Not a thing I really thought about before but it's what she'd do, so she'd probably know who the woman was.

DM-Salsa |

Re: Background skill change - I'm perfectly okay with that. I think it does make more sense too.
Re: Dare knowing the red-head - I was actually planning on her being someone that y'all haven't met yet, but it's alright. I can roll with it and see where it goes, so Holly she is. If you have any ideas for other NPCs Dare knows, feel free to put a few sentences in your profile about them and let me know so I can work them in.
Given that Dare would probably be on friendly terms with the proprietress even if Jubrayl isn't, she would probably also know Kaye Tesarani and the people she employs at the Pixie's Kitten, Sandpoint's brothel.
Jubrayl works closely with the Scarnettis, the shadiest of Sandpoint's four founding families. Titus Scarnetti has been trying to put the Pixie's Kitten out of business for years, and Jubrayl has been part of the pressure he's put on Kaye to get her to close so he can move into the gap and increase his influence over Sandpoint.

Sorry if you had plans and we can retcon if needed; I honestly just assumed she was there for flavor and then we'd not see again, so I thought it'd be safe to add a little more flavor to Dare's first week or two in Sandpoint. I apologize for assuming!
Dare met some folks on the caravan but the most significant of those would Cailyn, and many of the rest would have left by now.
At the Feedbag, she'd try to get on a first name basis with any regular employees (e.g., Brox) and/or folks who provide services (the sex workers). She'd keep her head down and not bother the guests much but if there was like, that one old man who's always there babbling about something, she'd chat with him. I'll think about it and let you know what I update.

Charisma: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Eh, it may seem wasteful, but I'm going to burn my hero point on this one for a reroll. I don't want to actively piss him off. Yet.
Charisma: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Bangs head into keyboard and cries
Gosh, that was painful to read.

Hey all, I've got some bad news. My paternal grandfather has been getting worse over the past couple of months. I'm going to go visit him and my grandmother this evening. I won't have time to post, and I need some time to process this. Thank you for your understanding and patience with me.

Cailyn Vanderale |

I am very sorry to hear that, sir. I second Dare's comment, take as much as you need. They are vastly more important.

Dare Ashborn |

Just reiterating plans: we agreed to meet back at the Rusty Dragon after each of us ran our errands. Because those not at the White Deer are now getting free rooms there, including Conrad (which Dare told him about earlier in the day).
We COULD try to go run into the group if they are still at the bookstore, but I figure they'd finish up not long after Dare and Conrad did anyway.
We can converse further if needed while the GM is taking a break.

DM-Salsa |

Hey all,
So I got some bad news Tuesday about my paternal Grandfather. He's been battling cancer and, more recently dementia. I think it's only really sunk in just in the past few hours that he's not going to get better. My sister and I visited with him yesterday, and other than saying hello and good-bye, he spent most of the time dozing.
I'll keep y'all updated as I can. I'm going to be unplugging for a few days. I'll be back as soon as I can.

DM-Salsa |

Hey all, Thanks for your patience with me over these past several days and for your thoughts and prayers.
Just an update on my grandfather. He had to be admitted into the hospital because of dehydration. He's doing a lot better now, though, and should be going home today.
I think I'm about as alright as I'm going to get for the time being. I'll get a post up today.

Cailyn Vanderale |

Excellent news!!! I am very glad he gets to come home.

DM-Salsa |

He had to go in Friday and he's home now. The bad news I got Tuesday was more about his dementia getting worse. He's better, but he probably isn't going to live much longer. That was the part that hit me hard.

Dare Ashborn |

A heads up that starting Sunday I will be at a conference for a week and may be slow to post. Please bot me as needed.

DM-Salsa |

So, a discussion in a game recently made me realize that I do have a redline that I haven't told y'all about, mainly because it wouldn't have crossed my mind in a million years that it could or would come up at the gaming table, which was particularly naive of me considering one of the first games I ever played in on the boards here had the GM rolling to see if intercourse resulted in pregnancy.
For various reasons, not the least of which is how highly charged emotions on both sides of the particular issue that this discussion touched on are, I would appreciate it if we could avoid anything dealing with Night Tea's other canonical use, besides being a contraceptive.
And, since the Gazetteer on Sandpoint also brings this up, I'd also appreciate it if we could avoid dealing with Hannah's more, shall we say, discreet services.
I know we're all adults here, and if not, we're all reasonably mature. I try to make it a point to not discuss politics with the people I play games with. That goes doubly so for this topic. I'm honest enough with myself to know that I'm very much a hardliner in my stance on this topic and that both my faith and my emotions play as large a part in that stance as any logical reasons I have for it. I would very much appreciate it if any questions you may have for me about this, including clarification about the topic I know I've been skirting around, are asked though private messages here or in direct messages in Discord.
I understand that the likelihood of this coming up in game is practically nil, but I would rather address it now than have to address it later and deal with an awkward conversation about why I didn't bring it up sooner. I understand that I'm almost certainly in the minority in my opinions on this issue here on the boards and that it's probably not hard to guess what my stance is on this issue I'm intentionally trying to avoid naming. Because of that, I understand some people might not want to associate with me. While I believe that most of us have more in common than we don't, I know that emotions are powerful things, and it can be difficult to reign them in. If you no longer wish to play at a table I am at or that I run because of this, then I won't judge you, nor will I begrudge you the right to do so. All I ask is you let me know if you are going to leave. I know that some of us play together on the same side of the GM's screen in other games. If you no longer wish to do so at any of those tables, please let me know and we'll figure something out.
Thank you for your patience and your grace with me, especially after my most recent screw up. I just ask that you keep showing that to me, especially with this. Like I said, never in a million years did I think this would come up, but here we are.
