GM JaceDK |

Merry Christmas, everyone. I hope you all find peace and joy this holiday season.

GM JaceDK |

Working on a longer summary of your downtime activites and a post detailing the day of the lottery. Coming soonish.

GM JaceDK |

Hey, what can I say? Only the best is good enough for the Smokin’ Bask Brigade.
P.s. just wait until you see the Plover kids. There’s already a shot of Indus talking to them in the Image Gallery.

Repeating here (without the spoiler) since it seems to have been missed:
Obviously, I won't take 10 (on Perception) when just walking around, but when we arrive at a 'dungeon'...? Of course I will.
With the assist from our other 'front rank' (Indus), that will take us to a 'walking around' 22 Perception. For things like doors and chests I will normally elect to 'Take 20' for a total of 30 or 32.

GM JaceDK |

Thanks for the reminder, Luke. I had seen that but forgotten it again.
And as you point out, the module's default DCs for recognizing the Old Gods don't really make sense in your case. I'll adjust for that in the future.

![]() |

All good!
I was just a little incredulous, given that one of the campaign traits was all about the Old Gods, that the writers hadn't listed a provision for worshipers.
DC 20 would be fair for someone with no connection to the Old Gods, after all!

GM JaceDK |

Well that didn't age well...
Give it time…

The_Beetle |

Harvesting poison is definitly an option, if you want. Full rules for that sort of thing available here
.
Hey thanks! Just gave it a read. I think Seben better resist temptation. While I dig the idea of having natural poison on an arrow or two, and her Survival skill is pretty decent, as I follow the math, there is roughly a 10% chance she will poison herself in the process, possibly as many as three times. It would be cool to try as it's something I've never done before, but I'd best leave the injuring of Seben to the opposition...

Indus Ionaeus |

I have a wand of cure light wounds, so I'm happy to let someone else take the potions.
Who among us lack dark vision? Diorio and Seben? I think one of us should take it.

The_Beetle |

Seben can temporarily simulate darkvision in a pinch with a class ability, so it probably has slightly higher value in the hands of Diorio or Indus, I think.
For the cure light wounds potions? Sobek? Diorio?
Seben also has a few charges on a happy stick, so there are likely others ahead of her in priority.
Speaking of healing, what are Diorio's hit points at? I don't think he got to full.

GM JaceDK |

Diorio took 6 points of damage and Seben healed him for 8, so he’s all good.

The_Beetle |

Fantastic!
Just in the interest of putting something out there, how's this?
Luek - potion of neutralize poison
Indus - potion of darkvision
Diorio - potion of cure light wounds
Sobek - potion of cure light wounds
Happy to trade things around! I see Sobek has a pretty awesome healing source as well, so there's some redundancy, but the dude deserves some treas-a.
Seben will just take the +5 brilliant energy composite longbow which has been left unguarded in the room to the south and we'll call it even.

I also just twigged that the GM is *not* asking for Appraise checks to ID the value of stuff, so I am going to go right ahead and ask about the:
1) Gold Books Appraise (with Guidance): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 9 + 1 = 27.
2) Chest Appraise (with Guidance): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 1 = 26.
3) Chariot Appraise (with Guidance): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 1 = 16.
4) Torch sconces/masks Appraise (with Guidance): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 9 + 1 = 17.
5) Anything else that I the player have forgotten about Appraise (with Guidance): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 1 = 16.

Indus Ionaeus |

I'll assist on the appraisal rolls:
Appraise: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Appraise: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Appraise: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Appraise: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Appraise: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

GM JaceDK |

Working together, Sobekhotep and Indus estimate the value of the found items to be:
1) Gold Books - 300 gp each
2) Chest - 200 gp
3) Chariot - If it can be removed from the tomb and put back togehter (DC 15 Craft (carpentry) or Profession (driver)), 80 gp - if it is restored using a make whole spell, 140 gp.
4) Torch sconces/masks - these are molded into the masonry and can't be removed without stonecutting tools.
5) Anything else that I the player have forgotten about - nothing at this point. The animal skins are worthless and the tapestry of Ahkentepi's family too fragile and bulky to remove. The mummified cats might have some novelty value to the right person.

The_Beetle |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |

Oh, great divine Gods of Old,
We humbly beseech you in your eternal wisdom,
That you may see fit to bestow us with your blessed and infinite guidance,
...So that we can accurately determine the street value of some junk we just stole out of some dude's basement.
Sincerely,
Your eternal humble servants,
The Smok'n Bask Brigade.
Seriously, this is the best spell evah!

GM JaceDK |

Nope, the chariot requires a Make Whole spell, and the skins are too far gone.

The_Beetle |

Well my plan for that +5 composite longbow has been dashed. Subject to any further trades or changes anyone wants to make, here is the record of who presently has what potion:
Luek - potion of neutralize poison
Indus - potion of darkvision
Diorio - potion of cure light wounds
Seben - potion of cure light wounds
I don't feel too strongly about it guys, so no worries if anyone wants a change.

The_Beetle |

Yeah - the Brigade is so stacked for healing! I see Luek is an incredible healer. We may have an average Strength score of like... 12, but we can certainly recover from a punch.
I do think Damage Reduction is a problem, for Seben at least. I just got a really lucky damage roll. I'll eventually need to look into a spell or feat for that. (There's an Ap for that somewhere!)
Assuming Sobek doesn't deal with the last warrior, I'll delay until after Diorio and Luek get another turn in. I feel like they may be itching to get their slay on. They just need the dice roller to cooperate.

GM JaceDK |

Yeah, no. At this level, pretty much all Sobekhotep can do is Guidance and out-of-combat healing.
That’s selling the broad selection of 1st level spells short, I think. There are a lot of useful in-combat spells.

![]() |

Oh, in general, I agree. With Sobekhotep, on the other hand... Not so much :-P
After all, he is built to be 'support' at lower levels. The only 1st level Transmutation (his double specialty spell) that he knows is utterly useless right now, and will continue to be so for much of his career.
I honestly expected to be doing nothing but 'Aid Another' and Guidance in combat for the first level or so.

Indus Ionaeus |

I'm planning on multiclassing into Fighter (Lore Warden) to beef my combat abilities a little and go heavy on the whip feat chain(s), maybe even a couple of levels as rogue. Considering how much other spell casting we have, Indus' won't really have to cast that many spells (in combat at least).

The_Beetle |

Lore Warden is awesome!
If/when we exit the tomb, Seben will get a Craft (bowyer/fletcher) check going to restring the bow. If I am right that nobody can use it due to the Strength requirement, we'd probably just sell it.
Can anybody use that quickdraw shield? Seben would take it if nobody else wants it, as it could be handy in a pinch--and it obviously looks cool. I mean, beetles rock, am I right? But since she's primarily a shooter, if somebody else is actually running some kind of sword and board routine I would think they should have priority. And I'd be open to just selling it too if it’s worth more that way.
Subject to any objections, Seben would also take the masterwork spear for use in the tomb as her melee weapon, but I’d be content to sell it and put the funds in the party pool after we exit.
You guys are probably way ahead of me on this, but I would guess there are clues in the notes to the mistress’ tomb that could be of use in a future exploration. So we should either hang on to those, or only sell them to a merchant who will agree to let us peak at them later if we need to (such as the Tooth and Hookah guy).

Indus Ionaeus |

I could probably use the shield for when defense is important.
I have no objection to you taking the MW spear.
Is it possible to change the Str requirement on a mighty bow (at a cost)? I have Str 14, so I'm nearly there, and a proper ranged weapon would be nifty at some point.
Yes, I'm thinking the mistress' tomb is either a clue to this dungeon or a future one. Let's hold on to the papers for the time being :)

GM JaceDK |

The module does not actually specify the strength rating on the bow, so I have no problem bumping it down to +1 or +2.

![]() |

Composite bows don't *have* to have a strength rating - ones that don't simply have a slightly longer range increment than a 'normal' bow.
That said, I will mark down the shield for Seben-en-Ra and the bow for Indus.
On the other hand, I will point out that the composite bow is *not* MW, so you can't enchant it... at least not without paying for a Masterwork Transformation to make it masterwork ;-)

GM JaceDK |

Alrighty then. Let’s just mark it as a regular ol’ composite shortbow without any fancy fixings. I can promise that Seben or Indus won’t be left hanging in terms of possible weapons upgrades.

GM JaceDK |

A quick on-the-fly addition to the shield: There is a slot suitable for a single ioun stone between the mandibles of the scarab . When an ioun stone (including an ioun torch) is inserted, it affects the wielder, similar to a Wayfinder.

![]() |

*Shrugs* if Sobekhotep dies again, I am okay with it. In fact, it would solve a lot of problems for him, since he would lose his attachment to *this* life.
That said, you indicated that inspecting the previous doors took 5-10 minutes... so if Seben took that long to 'recover', she *really* is a drama queen :-P

GM JaceDK |

Well, I did leave time for everyone else to respond after Sobek indicated that he was going through the doors. And the universal respons was to check on Seben.
But let’s see…I doubt the Ancient Gods are done with Sobekhotep quite yet.

![]() |

I know. When it is a party decision, I have no issue with it. I'll still call her a drama queen, though :-P
To be fair, though, the others indicated they were doing it *after* I said that I was checking the door/stairs (and then they roleplayed as if I had wandered off by myself), so I feel it is more a situation of...
'Alright guys, let's check out these stairs... Hang on... where did everyone go?'
Not that I am complaining, though!

GM JaceDK |

I agree…they left poor Sobek hanging to check on the pretty girl and her fainting episode. On the other hand, I hinted strongly that you might want to heal before moving on.
Guess this is one of those “learning opportunities” for everyone :-)
But to be fair, I’ll do an “Are you absolutely sure you want to move ahead without waiting for the others?” check next time.

GM JaceDK |

For no particular reason, this seems like a good opportunity to remind everyone that you each have a HERO POINT

![]() |

Cha 11 is a bit of a stretch for 'pretty girl', but I hear you :-P
Definitely more enticing than a balding blue man ;-)
My stance on healing would have remained unchanged, though - I would not have wasted a spell slot on that much damage. After *this* combat, on the other hand...
