No worries! I enjoy reading your thoughts on things.

Male Daytona 500 DM / 12

I've been through the same process you guys are going through right now. I bought the game when it was first released and said... NOPE! But I grew tired of 5E's predictability and started exploring. After many hours of watching Actual Play YouTube videos (Most of them have half the rules wrong BTW). I decided to take a deeper dive and found myself sold. It did require a change in thinking but the deeper I dove the more I appreciated the tight math, and three action economy, as well as the vast array of options for characters. In actual play the fact that creatures, and abilities work differently than my past experiences made it exciting and new again. It is dense... but as a GM I discovered that if something seemed unbalanced it was probably either being interpreted wrongly, or other options need to be chosen first.

I started with a bunch of House rules but have since dropped the majority of them as the system is pretty tight.

I'll probably begin preparation for my PF2 game shortly and will just start it without a recruitment thread to begin with. I'll just provide a link to the "Discussion" thread, and we can discuss rule interpretations and options for the game there.

If anybody else is interested in my upcoming Pathfinder 2E game, please check in using the link (5) posts ago. If not, all is good, and I'll reach out to some additional friends before general recruiting. No hurry as this game is several weeks away... just didn't want to spend the time preparing if there isn't enough interest.

Have a great weekend all!!!

I've begun some intensive training at work this week. I likely will not have as much time to post during this training, which might last up to several weeks. I'll try to keep up with the game as best I can during this time but delays will likely be inevitable.

It turns out that the PF2 Season of Ghosts AP campaign game I am playing in has an opening. Feel free to check it out HERE.

Party includes a Female Elf (dhampir) Psychic, Male Tien Human Summoner, Female Sprite Kineticist, Male Skeletal Champion, and finally a Male Tengu Monk (that would be me). The party Rogue did drop out so having a replacement Rogue would be nice, but play whatever you want!

I’m up for it, how far into the game are you? I was in one of Brainiac’s Season of Ghosts but found I was a bad fit for the group (who’d ever have imagined that?!? I know right? ;p) and left. I think I got up to just a few encounters in?

Thank you for the ping Ed, but for now I think I'll pass. My brain is already melting trying to create a new level 1 PF2 character, I think it would crash completely if I went for another.

Nowadays I am a big fan of the 'grab a character and go play' approach, and I am having a hard time doing that with PF2e.

We just started the first book and have only made it a short (?) time Oceanshieldwolf. I would check out the Gameplay to see where we are and also drop a message in Discussion if you have any questions :)

Rek still has his third action available this round, and Hess may still take his actions as well.

Hess, there's no critical failure state for the save, so you're still only sickened 1.

Ah! So it's not a "Base Save"...

Correct. I will usually indicate basic saves when they pop up, but those are generally reserved for damage dealing effects.

I'll be heading out on a camping trip later today. No internet access available so unable to post. Bot Ed as necessary .

I will return on Sunday.

Is there a battlemap somewhere for this encounter. Hess gaining flanking is always his goal. If not then should I just post something like. "Hess moves to flank cultist 1, the pulls his rapier and attacks"?

I've found trying to keep battlemaps up to date more trouble than its worth. Unless it's a very complex encounter, just stating that you're moving into a flanking position is usually enough for me. :)

Thank you for the clarification on Power Attack scranford and OSW! Am I correct in understanding it has now changed to Vicious Swing, or something like that?

So a good action combo option for now (since my Attack Bonus is not extraordinary) would be to Raise the Shield and do a Power Attack with no penalty, for an extra d8 of damage. Good!

Since they have reach weapons, is there anything like a 5' step in PF2e to advance safely?

Yes, the Step action.

Thx Brainiac!

@Group: I decided to advance and attack, not really sure any other option would have been better. Advice is welcome :D

Yep, I’m not seeing too many tactical options.

When the opponents don’t have reach, I tend to Step as my last action which forces them to Step as their first action if they want to come and get me. It’s a bit of wash as to whether me missing out on hitting them is worth dropping them down from three to two attacks. But I figure the less chances to critically hit me the better.

When the opponents do have reach, I guess you could use your final action to Stride 10’ to make them use Step?

Any way, I’m going to flank with Rek. Not much for a monk to do, and I gave my awesome tripping thonged throwing club to Vanda…

No.

Step is one action to move 5’

Stride is one action to move your movement speed.

Or raise your shield if you haven’t already…

Another thing that took a while to occur to me until a bit later and then I forgot completely until just now: if they have reach weapons, and *you* also have a reach weapon, then Step comes back in to play… Or the 2nd level Fighter feat Lunge which extends your reach by 5’.

You can take Tol’s longspear if you like - it is on his back. He isn’t using it in this fight. Yet. ;)

I think I also have a reach weapon, or I meant to grab one. Always liked reach tactics in PF1, but not familiar with them in 2e.

Like I said elsewhere, I pretty much have every character carry a longspear and spiked gauntlet. ;) So Tol has the longspear, but doesn’t so much need the gauntlet…

I sometimes remember to pack an actual ranged weapon, usually start with javelins as they are cheap. Very rarely an actual bow. And as you know, I love a good harpoon. You need two hands to hold the tether (so Throw, Retrieve, Throw) but you can also just throw it and not hold the tether, or jab someone with it. I made a Giant Instinct Barbarian and took the Raging Thrower feat with a Large Harpoon (PF2 doesn’t do “Large” weapon damage, but the Giant Instinct Barbarian gets an insane Rage damage bonus with a Large Weapon). Sadly that game died in the first scene of a PF2 Rise of the Runelords conversion….

Half-Orc Bard 1 / Init +2; Senses darkvision 60 ft.; Perception +4 / AC 18, touch 12, flat-footed 16 (+4 armor, +2 Dex) hp 10/10 / Fort +4, Ref +6, Will +4 / Inspire Courage left: 1/6

Just confirmed and yes, Reknar also has a longspear. Guess I need to remember to start walking around with it 'in hand' so to speak. That was my original idea, but for some reason I forgot about it.

Ed and Hess are up.

Did you want to finish exploring this level of the dungeon first, or go down the stairs now?

Sorry, I've been lax on map duties. I'll get it posted on Monday so you can see where you are and where you haven't been yet.

Okay, here is the map of the current dungeon level. You came in through D1/D2 and are currently in D21. note that the map may not exactly match the descriptions in the gameplay thread, as I removed/edited some rooms that just had filler encounters in them.

It looks like there is an unexplored room south of D20, which someone mentioned before. I say we head there first.
