Rory moves back to the door entangling the eastern edge to protect the flank. Mukluk steps in and blinds several foes! Durgan moves up and eliminates the hard won demoralizations on himself and Ameiko. Kisaiya steps up and slashes one of the ulfen. Ameiko, thanking Durgan for clearing her head, moves up on blue-sword and swings!

Green flail fumbles around, burning his hand on the fire pit before closing a bit - and regaining his sight!

A fancy wooden divider is moved, and more opponents spill out! First a hearty looking ulfen with a morning star. Then you see a very tall man who is likely Asvig Longthews (seen here not drunk). His wife (Helva) joins him as well. She has a raven on her shoulder but you can’t tell if it has any colored feathers.

They move into the room, drawing weapons (short spear for Asvig and sickle for Helva). From their gait, they too are drunk.

"Now see here! Whats you doing?!"

The servants continue to scatter, one entering the kitchen where the cry of general alarm is raised. From their drunken flailing though you don't think this to be a tough fight.

Realizing Ameiko was running in the room waiving a blade, Rory touches Storms sides with his heels and guides the wolf. Seeing the blue swordsman attack his friend, Rory guides Storms towards the attacker, telling the wolf, "Storm attack." As Storm snaps at the blue swordsman, Rory slashes at him with his shortsword.

Some, maybe all, of my numbers changed in my last post. I’m going by what I saw in the preview for my sanity. It doesn’t change anything in the combat rolls, but I have two saves out of blindness instead of the one shown. Sorry Mukluk! Still a damned effective spell.

Rory charges into the room and fights alongside Ameiko - hitting twice and tripping the poor warrior. Mukluk scorches his blinded target. Durgan smashes his foe, damaging him greatly. Kisaiya swings, and crits, and drops her opponent dead before he hits the ground! Ameiko stabs the prone fighter but can't quite find him lying on the ground.

Rory attempts to engage Asvig in conversation, but he’s not much of a talker. He also misses with his follow through attacks. Mukluk resists the urge to sleep before not-quite hitting his target with a scorching ray. Durgan finds a fresh target, wounding another one - badly! Kisaiya attacks a wounded one, and brings him down bleeding. Ameiko continues to inspire as she tries again to drop the prone blue swordsman.

I’m fine with it lasting the battle as with other things we’re doing.

Rory smacks his foe around, as Storm drops him to the ground prone. Mukluk tries hard to spit mule piss on the opponent, but all he manages to do is dribble it down his shirt as the wind spits his spit back at him. Durgan can’t reach the target he seeks, but he can hit the morningstar man - and so he does, and hard! Kisaiya doesn’t get burned, though she doesn’t land a blow either. Ameiko tries to take out the opponent she's been battling - and finally does!

Those facing away from her, simply hear her commands and attack, at least this round. However, those who see what she’s doing, grasp their armbands, and drop them, as they retreat from the fight!

If you don’t attack, the remaining ulfen warriors will also drop their gold armbands and retreat - giving up on their ring-giver who lies dead at your feet.

For the most part, the ulfen warriors will blend into the night - fleeing in various directions as the thralls have been doing for the last few rounds. Rory, and his speedy Storm, can capture one or two if they wish. Also, one or two will be hampered, possibly badly, by the entangle before the others see it and go around.

You can try to get Helva, but as you close, she’ll try Cause Fear on Storm (DC 14 will save). If Storm makes it, you can capture and question her. If Storm fails, he runs off the other way and she escapes. And yes, you may use a hero point for Storm if you wish.

Storm (DC 14 will save): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

As the tide of the battle turns, Rory hears the woman yell out 'Revenge! Get them!' Believing if they silence her the other will break, using his knees he turns Storm that way. Just then she turns tail and flees the other way. Raising an eyebrow he decides she wasn't as committed to the cause as she seemed.

Leaning forwards, the tells Storm, "We need to step her." As the wolf bolts forwards he yells back to the others, We'll catch her!" Catching up to her Storm is snapping at her heels as she enters the kitchen. When she turns to cast a spell, Storm bolts past her, into the doorway of what appeared to be another exit. Smiling, Rory waives a finger, "Your not going anywhere" as Storm drops his head, growling.

A dour look on her face, though a resigned one, greets you as you recover from the battle. "So... what do you want?" she shrilly demands, still trying to keep her dignity.

”Yeah, bring her in here, let’s not do what cannot be undone…yet,” he warns, and begins to strip her of weapons and magic so that there aren’t any accidents. He will help wrangle her back to the not-barn.

Raising an eyebrow at the woman's question, Rory pauses, what was it that they wanted? Keeping Strom a short distance from the woman, it wouldn't do for Storm to lick her hand or anything that would reveal the wolf's not as scary as Rory was pretending. "First we want the sword your husband stole."

He pauses for a moment then adds. "And we want the weregild price for the death and damage caused at Fynn Snaevald's home and the weregild for the attack on our camp beside the river."

He wasn't going to tell the woman they won that fight, he was sure there was some damage, if not physical at least mental and emotional.

She’s not eager to divulge that tidbit, but she glances at your lack of injury and the knowledge that she’s so very alone and low on spells…

”I know of the sword, but I do not know where it is, or why Asvig acquired it. But I can tell you this - There are three jobs we’ve done recently, and each paid more than the last and I never saw who hired Asvig to do ‘em. The first was to take the sword, the second was to raid you on the road, and the third was to capture Ulf Gormundr.”

”The only reason I mention it is I think I know where Ulf is. And if the three are connected, the blade may be there too.”

She turns sterner and tries to bargain, ”Leave me with the purse on my person and the clothes on my back, and you may have the rest. I’ll tell you where Ulf is, and the wealth of this house should more than compensate you for the weregild. Do we have an agreement?”

As Helva stands proudly making her offer, Rory looks towards Durgan, then the others. He didn't know much about wergild, but he knew he didn't want to keep this woman prisoner or, worse yet, kill her in cold blood.

Making eye contact with each of the others, he gives a slight nod showing he thinks it's a good idea, but he waits a moment. Finally asking, "Mukluk, what do you think Moose would say?"

Mukluk thanks Durgan for the healing, always appreciating not needing to use the wand.

”You keep your stuff, huh? Let me make sure you’re not foolin’ us, because we wouldn’t like that,” Mukluk says, casting Detect Magic and examining any magics the witch has upon her. ”I want to be sure you won’t have the sword hidden on you because not sure we want to have to track you down again. Stormsy has a good nose but it might not be quick,” he adds, looking at what the woman thinks to keep with her.

Kisaiya thinks she's telling the truth.

Looking from Mukluk to the others, Rory notes the look of concern on the clerics face. Nodding, not really sure what a 'wergild' permits, he decides to let her determine what constitutes as her 'clothing'. "Give us the location of this Ulf Gormundr and we will permit you to keep what you have said."

”This party is, was, a funeral feast for Asvig’s own ring-giver, an old jarl and renowned viking raider named Snorri Stone-Eye. Snorri, may he rest in peace, is scheduled to be burned with his funeral ship at dusk tomorrow - after the celebrations.” Her tone makes it clear they prefer to do these things at dawn, but you can’t hold a funeral while the whole town is celebrating, so it’s been delayed until after the party. What the party is you do not know…

”Ulf Gormundr, whose part in this I do not understand, is trussed in the funeral barge, to be burned along with Snorri, may he rest in peace. It may well be that your blade will sink to the bottom of the fjord when that ship goes up in flames. I am not sure of this, but I have not seen the blade since we took Ulf to the ship.”

She holds her head up high, and feeds a bit of kibble to her bird. ”You’ve taken my weregild, and I’ve told you the story you wanted to hear, now I’ll be off - and we’re square.” Though she’s been left with little, she seems resourceful, and you doubt she’ll have little for long.

She strides out the front door confidently, and into the night.

It is well after midnight on Desnus 5, a Fireday. What next?

Ameiko thinks only a little before replying. ”Well there’s a man at stake too - Ulf. He was taken for some reason, and at the same time as the attack on us, and the theft of the blade. I cannot see what the connection is however, but maybe we can ask around town in the morning to discover more.”

”I’m inclined to try and get on that boat. Er, ship.”

Kisaiya nods. She feels inclined to give Ameiko a more formal reaction, but she understand it will probably just make her uncomfortable. Kisaiya just finds a certain romantic idealism in such things that it is hard to let go of. ”I feel the same way. Whatever his connection is, I get the feeling our foes do not want us to know what it is.”
