"You want some of me? You get this!"
The large dwarf swings his hammer at the tentacle creature.

Dimak is able to strike the monster but he notices his weapon doesn't quite do all the damage he expected to do.
The horrific creature takes a 5ft step closer and its skin illuminates and changes patterns, extending its tentacles around it like a star in an hypnotic way.
Jakko, Patros and Dimak must make a will save DC17 or be fascinated.

"I need a stronger hammer!"
Jaakko Varpunen |
Shamus doesn't currently have line of sight to enemy like Jaakko does, so there was a contradiction and line before round 1 is correct?

Shamus Shandy |
What's Shamus' Will save for?
Radu. |
Thinking back to the conversation that the party had had with the nice old halfling lady with the colourful shawl, Radu recalls her tale of an 'octopus creature' apparently ensorcelling her cousin. Concerned that this may be the same 'octopus creature' and that it may try a similar trick, the Varisian bends his wrist and a wand slides out of his sleave and into his hand. Moving next to Dimak, he then uses the wand to cast a protective spell on the big dwarf.
Radu will retrieve the wand of protection from evil stored in one of his speed sheaths and use it on Dimak as he moves next to him.

If you're taking suggestions on what abilities to identify, Shamus would like to know if it's immune or not to mind-affecting spells.
Las Lajas |
Sure. Las isn't looking for anything in particular, so if anyone wants to know something.
soulnova |
That would fall on Resistances and Immunities categories:
DR 10/Cold Iron or Lawful, immune to cold, poison, mind affecting effects, Resist acid/electricity/fire 10.
I usually provide the most relevant bits on a +15 K. check, so as Las Lajas is not looking for more particular stuff I'll throw in here the special attacks.
Braincloud (Su)
Once per round, in place of a melee attack with a tentacle, a shoggti can make a melee touch attack with the pincer on the end of that tentacle. If it hits, the target takes 1d4 points of Wisdom damage. Shoggti use this ability to mentally debilitate their victims so they can more easily use their charm spell-like abilities against them.
Horrific Appearance (Su)
Creatures that succumb to a shoggti’s horrific appearance become fascinated by the creature’s hypnotically wriggling tentacles and the strange, shimmering colors in its eyes. This effect persists for 1d6 rounds (but can be ended by the normal methods of defeating the fascinated condition).
Las Lajas |
Wouldn't Jaakko get his acton last round since Las acts before him?
Patros Therinor |
Patros moves up and draws his cold iron blade, his weapon doesn't have the reach of Dimak's. He tries to duck and weave nuder the creature's reach.

Jaakko Varpunen |
Round 1 Jaakko loads his musket with a cold iron bullet and moves closer to horrific monster.
Shamus Shandy |
Shamus shuffles forward to the base of the stone steps behind Jaakko. He stands on his toes to peer over the top of the steps to get a good look at the creature.
"Egads! That's a hideously ugly creature."
He watches Jaakko load a bullet into his musket.
"Take that thing out, my boy. Here's a bit of luck for you."
Shamus blesses the gunslinger with a bit of good fortune.
Jaakko can call upon this good luck once per round, allowing it to reroll any ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, taking the better result. The target creature must decide to use this ability before the first roll is made.
Don't forget about your lucky numbers, everyone! Jaako could have rerolled that Will save earlier.
Dimak |
"Thanks, Radu!"
Dimak tries to get in a flanking position by moving through the monster's space.

Radu. |
Radu watches as the creature unleashes it's barrage of tentacles against his allies. As it attempts to grab them, he calls on Pharasma to help guide their escape.
If Patros is grabbed by one of those attacks, Radu will use liberating command as an immediate action to allow him an Escape Artist check with an additional +10 bonus to escape the grapple and avoid the constrict damage.
He then drops the wand he was holding and rapidly draws a couple of his cold iron daggers which he throws as the grabby abomination.

Radu will use lucky number to reroll the first attack:
cold iron dagger (main hand) + PBS: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 1 = 20
After attacking he then steps further into the cave.

Patros is unable to break free with Liberating Command as an immediate action with that roll.
Las Lajas greases him up as a standard action and Patros will be able to continue to have that +10 on his turn to try to escape again as a standard action.

... resulting in a powerful blow.
A result of 24 was a hit last time, so this should hit, too.
"Take THAT!"
Shamus Shandy |
Well darn. That creature is immune to almost everything I have. I've got something that will affect it, though...
Shamus takes a step forward up the set of natural stone stairs. He waves his arms in an arcane gesture and drones an eerie, low-pitched cadence that echoes throughout the caverns. Motes of sparkly light swirl about his body, like celestial fireflies drawn to a cosmic call. With a focused thrust of his hands, he sends the crackling motes of stardust to surround the grotesque entity.
Stardust: No save. Creature is -2 to attacks & sight-based perception checks and it cannot benefit from concealment or any invisibility effects. Lasts for 2 rounds.
Patros Therinor |

When it's its turn to attack, Patros drives his falcata right through the gaping wound left behind by Jaakko's bullet, hitting some part of what he thinks was its brain and the quilopth collapses into a pool of it's own blood.
COMBAT OVER!

Updated the map assuming you would like to look on the other side.
The party has no trouble to discover a lump of half-chewed small torso with missing limbs, hard to identify. A mostly torn jacket lies at its side, as well as a weird cloak that seems to shimmer and very nice pearl smeared in blood.
To identify the other items...
Shamus Shandy |
Dimak takes a minute to sit down and calm his breath. ending rage
"What... *wheeze* ... was... *wheeze* ... that?"
"Something from far beyond, I would imagine. Beyond the heavens, I'm sure."
He lightly taps one of the creature's tentacles with his morningstar, just to be sure it's dead."Good work once again, gentlemen."
The old Samsaran congratulates his teammates all around. He then walks over to the corpse and kneels at its side.
"Let's find out what happened to this old chap, shall we?"

Radu. |
Radu is happy to help with healing wands as both CLW and infernal healing are on his spell list.
Radu picks up his daggers and walks over to the torso. Kneeling down he tidies it up as best he can, whispering prayers to Pharasma as he does. "I'm guessing this may be poor cousin Gel... we should take him back for a proper funeral once we are done here."
"Is that pearl of power useful to anyone else? I know I could use it but I already have one of my own." adds the Varisian pulling out his own pearl and using it to recall the spell he had cast in the previous fight.
"Once everyone is ready we should move on. I seem to be doing a terrible job as a scout, both of the last two creatures we've encountered have managed to spot us before I spotted them, but hopeful I can reprieve myself and give us some warning if we run into anything else down here!"
Radu will wait until everyone is ready to leave and then lead the party back north to the one entrance which we have not yet explored. He will continue to scout ahead and keep an eye out for dangers.

There IS another chamber to the right. Assuming you want to check things closer first I'll use that roll for that immediate area.
The crystalline growth in the northwestern corner of the room has weakened the structural integrity of the walls there, making the entire area particularly unstable. The chance of a partial collapse is larger here compared to other areas of the complex.
You don't see anything else of interest here. No enemies or items.
