The city is alive with the sounds of bustling conversation and commerce outside of the Pathfinder Society’s Grand Lodge. An older human man with a shock of white hair and a slight paunch, Drandle Dreng, stands smiling just off of the street and with perception indicative of a Pathfinder, he waves a beckoning hand.

A short olive-skinned human male with black hair and a neatly-trimmed black beard walks carefully through the crowd. He is dressed in a gray robe, bound with a wide belt and has a cloak over the top. His head is bound in a light blue headscarf.

Spotting the venture-captain, he steps out of the crowd to join the small group.

He leans on his staff as he comes to a halt. "Well met fellow pathfinders! I am Khaldan al Tephu, at your service. "

With a quick sniff and a squint, he notes matter-of-factly "Ah, so that's why the crush parted as I got close." and moves to be upwind. "Good to make your acquaintance..."

His smirking face is marked by numerous scars, some old, some fresh.

A short, stocky human, dark-haired and bearded with a complexion that looks permanently windburned, follows behind. A greatsword is sheathed over one shoulder and a greatclub over the other. He wears a light knee-length tunic decorated with bright embroidery around the collar and cuffs, plain wool trousers, and leather boots. "Kimmo am I. It's an honor to meet you all." His voice is a light tenor.

A tiny, insect-like sprite flutters up to stand on Dreng's table. In a high-pitched voice it says, "I'm Folmyr. What do we get to kill, now?"

You notice that it has a sword, longer than it, strapped to its back, above hide armor. For a human, that would be a long dagger or a short sword.

"Pathfinders!" He says, motioning to follow. "Your timing is perfect, but let me get straight on to the matter at hand, and also add that I certainly hope that you're all wearing a good set of boots."

He swiftly walks off, leading you into the city's back alleys. "As you may well be aware, the Pathfinder Society has many allies hailing from across Avistan, Garund, and beyond. Some of our allies are much closer, and indeed right below our feet." He comes to a stop and motions down at a thick bronze plate in the road covering an entry into Absalom's sewers. "Perhaps you've heard of the Sewer Dragons? They're a resourceful kobold tribe claiming a major portion of Absalom's underground. The Society has understanding with them, and I've regularly met with their representative, one Dragonspeaker Engashez, a blue-scaled bard with a penchant for drums. While she can occasionally be yappy, she is prompt, and earlier today she failed to appear at our scheduled meeting. I suspect that something has happened, and I want to find out what."

Dreng leads the way below ground, into a subterranean chamber strewn with the carnage of a recent fight. Two ragged, giant holes are punched through the walls at the room's opposite ends though both tunnels subsequently collapsed. More startling are the dozen kobold corpses dead and partially submerged in the room's standing water.

"Oh no no…" Dreng mutters in disbelief before he raises his head at the echoing, distorted sounds of nearby fighting. "Trouble ahead. Whatever caused this must still be close by!" He points down one of the passageways out of the room and wades across the room towards the other exit. "I'll go this way and you go that way! Quickly now!"

This passageway marks the beginning of the Sewer Dragon’s territory. With the tunnels bored through by some tunneling device or monstrosity collapsed, the only exits are into passages to the east and west. Venture-Captain Dreng has taken the western path and instructed you to take the eastern path.

None of the kobolds strewn about the room or floating in the sewage are still alive. The signs of battle are intense, though it’s clear that the kobolds were taken by surprise. Many still have their weapons sheathed at their sides, and an equal number of kobolds seem to have been crushed by debris or with bodies twisted as though smashed down by some powerful creature.

DC 15 Perception:
One was crushed to death by whatever broke through the tunnel walls. Most show acid burns or extensive bite wounds from a large creature.

DC 16 Survival to Track:
You recognize the signs as otyugh spoor.

Khaldan:
You know that otyughs are filthy monstrosities that stomp about on three massive legs in search of tasty garbage and refuse. Using two barbed tentacles to grasp and tear, guided by a third with a proliferation of eyes at the end, the otyugh has perfectly adapted to life in its cramped, disgusting environment, where it uses its appendages to see into tight spaces and grasp hidden prey.

Progressing down the passage, you quickly notice a pile of broken stones and glass in the tunnel’s center.

Everyone except Kargoth:
You determine it to be a sprung trap from above, triggered by a deactivated trap in the floor. The Sewer Dragons are known for ingenious traps, and it should be a clear concern moving forward: not every trap may have already been sprung! The tunnel also has seen the aftereffects of a recent combat and the passage of a large creature.

After surveying the remains of the battle, Khaldan will pause and think. After a minute he will pronounce

"Otyugh are filthy trash eaters, they have three massive legs and three tentacles. One of the tentacles is an eye stalk and the other two are barbed which they grab and tear at prey with. So we should expect grab and reach attacks. Oh and of course you all saw the acid - that too."

When they find the sprung trap, he will comment "Looks the kobolds aren't without their defences! Glad we are being careful."

Dolmandir easily spots and removes a trapdoor. It's revealed to be a pit 20' deep and 10' square. You mark the trap and move on.

This stretch of the sewers curves back toward the west. You immediately notice another sprung trap: a broken trip wire and a hanging scythe blade.

DC 15 Perception:
The trap struck a large creature, and that two such creatures passed. You gain a +1 bonus to track the otyughs.

Debris, blood, and carnage fill this hallway. Blood is splattered around the room, and a sewage-soaked bag of tools sits abandoned on the southern walkway.

DC 17 Perception:

You notice another trap. Pressure sensitive panels in the floor connect to a barrel of debris hidden in the hallway’s ceiling. DC 20 Thievery (Trained) to disarm; Roll as many times as you like, just don't crit fail.

Dolmandir is unable to see what's Kargoth find thanks to the trap.

But as he's more focus, he remarks another... trap!

His first attempt is a success and he's able to disarm it.

Dolmandir easily disarms the trap. Moving south, you notice the rubble of an impromptu deadfall trap.

DC 14 Perception:
You notice an unconscious and badly injured Sewer Dragon lying amidst the rubble. The warrior is alive, if only just.

The warrior is barely alive with gruesome wounds, recognizable as a combination of bites, constriction ligatures, and minor acidic burns.
DC 16 Treat Wounds or magical healing will revive the kobold

Kargoth tips some of the contents of his mug down the kobold's throat before getting to work. It seems to have work as the warrior seems to relax. He patches up the wounds and the warrior sits up slowly.

Blinking her orange eyes and squinting in pain, the kobold instinctively reaches for her weapon, a gleaming rapier, but pauses and relaxes as she recognizes members of the Pathfinder Society.

"I am Pethjun of the Sewer Dragons" she introduces herself.

"Pathfinders?" She glances about, wincing at the distant sounds of continued combat, "We were taken by surprise. Stupidly so! A machine with a great drill at the front, broke through into our territory. Don’t know what it was," She snarls, "It ignored us, but before its tunnel collapsed, otyughs and hungry oozes followed behind it. Chief Yiddlepode was injured from falling debris! Sent her and others off ahead and tried to fight; slow them down so she could escape." Frustrated and in pain, Pethjun screams in anger at her perceived failure, even if against overwhelming odds. "Can still hear fighting though! Pathfinders, we have an arrangement yes? Please help! Will tell you the way, will tell you the traps!"

Pethjun points you in the direction of where her tribe has made their stand. On the way you enter a crossroads from the north. You can hear the sounds of battle close by to the east. Moving towards the sound, you notice the trap that Pethjun pointed out to you. (Pink dot on the map. It's armed, so you could try to shove something into it if you need to).

You turn the corner and are immediately hit by an eye-watering stench. You see that the kobolds have made their stand here, behind a hastily prepared barricade at a bottleneck where the chamber meets a smaller passage. One kobold AHEM! Otyugh (Blue) flails at the barricade, while another (Red) is busily eating a dead kobold. To your surprise, the Red one speaks!

"Oh look! More food has walked in! We can eat the kobolds later, let's eat those bigger ones first!"

Folmyr manages to endure the eye-watering stench of raw sewage but Kimmo isn't as lucky. Kimmo manages to clear his digestive tract before entering his rage. He draws his sword and prepares to strike.

Folmyr breaks free of Red's tentacles and tries to smack Red. Unfortunately, he misses.

Blue moves forward. "Hey, Red! Get outta the way so I can get the fly!" It reaches out with another slimy tentacle.

What appears to be an ooze slithers forward. It hits the trap.

Looking warily at the ooze that has moved up close, he will try to recall what he knows about them
