Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
"Bleah!" says Kenoryth, holding his nose and gagging. "That smells worse than my great Uncle Mungofite's experiments using giant slug slime for laundry detergent. Oh, man! The Baron was not happy when his silk suit came back!"
| Taong Malakas |
DC 19 Fortitude save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Treating his own wounds has been a struggle. Fortunately, he is able to patch himself up and begins to move. Upon arrival to their next destination...
"Awful smell!" Taong complains. "Where is that coming from?" Overpowered by the smell, he moves to a corner and retches.
DC 19 Fortitude save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
His eyes are swelling, and he still feels sick. "Ugh! Who gets to resist that kind of smell..."
Khaldan al Tephu

"Uggh this smells so bad! Maybe we should just leave them be and sneak past them?"
Are these just regular kobolds like we have seen before? Arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Khaldan recalls that these are xulgaths, reptilian humanoids (I rolled Society for Recall) who live in the uppermost reaches of the Darklands. That is, these are very unlikely to be the creatures that stole Tamily's fish.
Although today the xulgaths are brutal and scattered, they were one of the first intelligent humanoids to rise in the primeval world, once ruling over a mighty empire that stretched throughout the Darklands. The downward stairs at the far end of the cavern likely lead down into the Darklands, but it would be a pretty brutal place for Level 1 adventurers.
As Khaldan is saying all of this, all of a sudden, a loud retching echoes through the damp chamber, and everyone looks over at Taong - including the xulgaths. I'm marking them prone, since that's how they will be resolved mechanically (flat-footed, and requiring an action to stand), but descriptively, they are sitting).

Khaldan sighs "Guess sneaking is out of the question then" and then moves so he can see more into the cavern and casts electric arc on the front two xulgaths, although the stench puts him off his focus a bit:
Electric Arc DC 16 Reflex: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
I'm assuming the sickened 1 lowers our spell DCs by 1
| GM Watery Soup |
Red Reflex vs Fibek: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Blue Reflex vs Fibek: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Red Reflex vs Khaldan: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Blue Reflex vs Khaldan: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Red sees the spells coming and dodges half of the electricity, but Blue doesn't, and bears the full brunt of the opening assault.
Red stands and grabs a javelin, hurling it at Khaldan.
Javelin, Thrown: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Piercing: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
It skewers the wizard.
Yellow stands and grabs a javelin, throwing it at Fibek.
Javelin, Thrown: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Piercing: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Fibek is able to dodge.
Blue also stands and throws a javelin at Fibek.
Javelin, Thrown: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 vs cover
Piercing: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Fibek is the javelin whisperer.

Sorry, yes, Blue is damaged, not Yellow.
Red Reflex vs Taong: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Blue Reflex vs Taong: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Taong's electric arc takes out both Red and Blue!
Qidan fires a force bolt, which grazes Yellow.
Will vs Befuddle: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Kenoryth casts a spell and the remaining xulgath appears befuddled.
Reflex vs Khaldan: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Club vs Taong: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Bludgeoning: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
The move catches Taong by surprise, and sends him to the ground in one blow.

"Deadly with that rock as always Fibek! Of course it has to be poor Taong, our healer, who is hit hardest. Quick, let's get him out of this stench and get a potion in him. By the grace of Sarenrae we can still save him!"
(I take it we can't give Taong a potion while he is sickened?)
Khaldan will start trying to lift up Taong with the aim of puling him out to a room with clearer air, probably back to the barricade.
However, if someone is better placed than me to administer first aid, I won't complain.
◆ Stride over to Taong
◆ Interact to pick up Taong (hopefully with help)
◆ Stride back towards the barricade
Khaldan al Tephu

Alright, as we don't need to move Taong, Khaldan will instead pull out the minor healing potion we acquired earlier and pour it down Taong's throat for
minor healing potion: 1d8 ⇒ 6 hp of healing.
| Taong Malakas |
Taong slowly opens his eyes and wakes up with a start, realizing that he is still alive. The last thing he remembers is a club hitting his face. "Where are the enemies?!"
Khaldan al Tephu
|
"Good to see you back with us Taong! I think a rest would be good - I'm feeling a bit rough. We should check for any treasure on these Xulgath's before we leave though."
Khaldan will then have a look at the Xulgath's corpses and camp for any treasure.

---
Khaldan finds a small bag tied to the waist of one of the foul creatures. Inside the leather pouch is a handful of strange coins, minted in some faraway kingdom deep underground — the coins show a tower inside a cave on one side and a sinister-looking elf’s head on the other. These coins amount to 7.8 gp.
Two passages lead out of this room, other than the way the heroes came in. One leads to the east, heading steadily down, deep into the earth. This tunnel leads into the Darklands, a vast subterranean realm deep underground filled with all sorts of deadly creatures and sinister monsters. This is where the xulgaths came from, but the xulgaths appear to have nothing do with the missing fish.
This is a plot hook for future adventures.
The other passageway exiting this room looks like it was dug recently. This tunnel curves up and around before ending in a thin wall of loose stones and dirt. A tiny hole in the wall allows creatures to look into the room beyond.
A hero who wants to break open this wall can attempt an Athletics check.
Khaldan al Tephu
|
After collecting the small bag, Khaldan will creep up and peek through the wall and then creep back.
"Interesting, we could ambush the kobolds from here later. But let's rest up first. We should at least go back to the water room - that seems a safe place. Although I would happily have a night's rest up in the town. Taong, would you feel well enough to see to our wounds?"
If someone else wants to head back up to the town for the night, Khaldan will enthusiastically support them. Otherwise, he will then move back to the water room and set up a make shift camp again there.
| Taong Malakas |
"I agree, let's rest up, and let's get back here." Taong agrees with Khaldan, with the fact that they are badly hurt and they don't have enough resources at hand.
Khaldan al Tephu
|
"Yes, a real bed sounds amazing. We can also replenish our supplies of potions too. We should rearrange that first room on the way out so we know if the kobolds set another ambush."
| GM Watery Soup |
Outside of the dungeon, Taong can take as long as he needs to heal everyone up.
Khaldan arranges the ambush room in a specific geometric pattern that would look like it were haphazard for anyone with less than 18 intelligence, but is easily recognizable to the nerds.
After a good night's rest, and giving Tamily a quick update on the progress of the investigation, the group is ready to head back down. None of the tables in the ambush room appear to have moved.
Break through the wall or head west (towards the top of the map) from the ambush room?
| Taong Malakas |
Well-rested, Taong is ready to explore further the tunnels. "Let's check the wall here." he suggests the others while sensing the rocks that are blocking their way. He then peeks through the wall, seeing some kobolds in that area going about their daily routines. He can even overhear a few phrases, including “when we stole the egg” and “more fish for the pet.”
He reports to them what he saw and heard. "Maybe we can ambush them and interrogate them about this pet."
Khaldan al Tephu
|
After some healing, a good rest and some shopping, Khaldan is looking almost happy!
"Ah it is good to feel whole again. Thank-you Taong! Ambushing them through the wall seems like the best choice. Any volunteers to bash the wall down?"
| GM Watery Soup |
Last chance to switch out any spells during daily preparations.
| Kenoryth |
We're first level wizards. Not sure any changes are going to actually influence the outcome! :-)

LOL, just wanted to offer. It's one of the few perks of being a prepared spellcaster that rarely gets used in PFS, so I always take advantage when I can in an Adventure Mode format. :)
Khaldan al Tephu

I did change my prepared spells - may as well make use of the first level spell slots

The heroes head back to the loose stone wall and begin hacking.

Khaldan will lend a hand to dismantle the wall
Athletics: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11
with a fairly mediocre result. He will also move to have line of sight should we manage to get the wall down.
| GM Watery Soup |
Everyone mills around, thinking their way through the problem and calculating forces, angles, and momentums. Qidan just walks up and knocks the wall down with a push.
Inside, kobolds shout and sound the alarm, as the wizards burst into their sleeping chambers.

Fibek casts a spell, and three bolts of force fly out. The first two strike Red, who keels over before even finishing the bite of worm stew they were enjoying. Redirecting the third missile to Yellow.
Kenoryth moves forward and shields himself.
Yellow screams, "INTRUDERS!" and stands up. Instead of drawing a weapon of any kind, he runs forward, opening a chest in the center of the area.
Green stands and runs over to the now-open chest, grabbing an amber bottle from the inside and lobbing it at Kenoryth.
Bottle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Even with his shield, it hits him, and splashes all over.
Oil: Each time they Stride, they must attempt a DC 10 Acrobatics skill check. If they fail, they fall over and gain the prone condition instead of moving. The hero can Step, moving only 5 feet, without this check. Anyone who moves through a square covered in oil must attempt a DC 10 Acrobatics skill check. If they fail, they stop moving and fall.
I've indicated oily squares with red highlight.
