ahh...having issues with the website....didn't keep my post...argh!
Is it trapped? Maybe warded... Therin says as he checks with his aura reading ability.
detect magic...maybe a rope tossed over top of it could drag it down?

Jilla's always happy to chuck rocks at stuff! (even when there's not a good reason . . .) She takes aim and lets fly.
Thrown Rock (w/ Throw Anything & Range Increment penalty: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 2 = 22

Igor looks on as a good part of the party takes his advise to heart and begins pelting the chest with available projectiles. Better to be seen as silly by some then to be swallowed whole by a mimic.
We will see if my paranoia is justified or perhaps the chest is only a chest. :)
He casts a Shield spell on Tiny Pebble and then sends his familiar up ahead to stand with Eka should anything interesting might happen.

GM Roll4initiative |

I moved Jilla next to Eka on the map so they can throw rocks together.
Igor casts shield on TP, then sends him to the front with Eka and Jilla.
Therin casts detect magic into the room. Only the pale light on the ceiling gives off an aura.
Evocation [light]. Seems like just a permanent light spell was cast to illuminate the room.
On the count of Three, Eka and Jilla each throw a rock at the iron chest. Jilla's rock hits the chest square in the side, then Eka's rock a split second later. After a moment of silence from the group...
Nothing.
Just an old iron chest.

Sorry for the posting delay - been a busy few days.
After the fight with the oozes, Drukpa tucks his broken bardiche away and arms himself with his cold iron tri-point double edged sword. He also grabs one of the masterwork long swords, just in case.
...
Seeing his comrades bashing the clearly harmless chest with rocks Drukpa is a bit puzzled but after his earlier misstep with the niches, he doesn't want to be overeager again. He grips his sword tightly, moves up, and growls at the chest, "C'mon out! Whatever ye is - if yer a bat, we'll find ya, an' if ye ain't, well then what is ya?"
Adjusted Drukpa's position on the map

Jilla cracks her knuckles. "Don't worry folks! I got this." She walks up and tries to open the chest.
Famous last words?

I adjusted your position according to your post above. "Moves up and growls at the chest". Jilla walks up to open the chest...
just wanna be sure.
Jilla cracks her knuckles. "Don't worry folks! I got this." She walks up and tries to open the chest.
Edit: Jilla. It looks like you have no levels of rogue, trapfinding ability, etc...
Before Jilla announced she was opening the chest, Nobody even searched the chest for traps first. As you open the chest...

Yep.
You might have a chance to survive this, though...

I was right it was either a mimic or trapped. :) I am vindicated incinerated!
Now who opens a chest without even checking for traps? I fall asleep and people do foolish things in other time zones. ;)
Now tell us about the size of the explosion.

April Fools!!! Haha!
Happy April Fools Day!
Jilla tries to open the chest but notices a big key hole on the front. The chest is locked shut.

Igor imagines a great conflagration but then Jilla curiosity is stopped by a simple lock. The wizard advances near the dais and has a quick look (for traps) before retreating once again to the back of the party.
32 Perception on a take 10 to look for traps.
It is April Fool's day everyday with this party. Who knows what these 'characters' will do. ;)

GM Roll4initiative |

It is April Fools' day everyday with you guys. Lol!
Inspecting the chest, Igor spots a mechanical device on the hinge of the lid. If not disabled, the trap will spray a cloud of acid in a large area around the chest when the lid is opened.

![]() |

Igor informs the party about the trap that he has found and then He leaves the room with Tiny Pebble.

GM Roll4initiative |

Btw, this is the 5th room for you to explore. That's all we're limited to. The passage to the south is blocked off, as well as the passage to the west. If you complete all the challenges in these 5 rooms, you do end up with the best items on the chronicle.

![]() |

"Okay, sso... I guesss I could try to dissable the trap. Everyone sstay back unlesss you're trying to help." Eka sets her stuff down in the previous room to keep potential acid residue off it and digs to the bottom of her pack, grabbing her thieves' tools and waterskin. "If the assid hits me, I'll run in here sso you can pour thiss over me to wash it off." She holds out the waterskin, hoping someone will take it.
Walking back to the chest like a convict walking to the gallows, she takes a deep breath, then puts her ear to the chest for a few moments, as if listening for something.
Any buffs and aid rolls are welcome. I'll post the DD roll tomorrow.

"Stupid chest! Here Eka, drip a little of this acid on mechanism--it might help."
Whew! I started regretting that post overnight, worried I was going to get the whole party incinerated and become the pariah of the Paizo forums! As recompense, I'm going to cross off my "Missing Child" boon from Edge of Anarchy to automatically provide a +5 Aid Another bonus to Eka's Disable Device check.

GM Roll4initiative |

Okay... Figuring out who's next to the chest & Eka. Therin, I don't see a "magic anytool" listed in your profile. I took screenshots with my phone of your PC's list of gear (to enlarge since I'm old & going blind) and didn't see anything like that listed. But, you are casting guidance on Eka, so you are within reach of her. Jilla is using a chronicle boon to give Eka a +5 to her DD check, so, Jilla is within reach of Eka. Drukpa is also at the chest, snarling menacingly and thinking there's a bat. Igor & T.P. back away into the passage to the north. Map is updated with your placements.
As Igor moves into the north passage for safety and Eka rubs her hands together in preparation of disarming the trap, a booming voice from above suddenly calls out,
"Ha, ha, ha. Oh, you meddling Pathfinders. Good work so far, but, you're not finished yet.
Greetings. It is I, Volzaras. You will notice that the passage to the west contains a shimmering column of light. If you survive the challenge in this room, you may enter that column of light to be instantly transported to the Guardian Node room. Yes. The room that harnesses negative energy from the great beyond and then focuses it through the mirror to strengthen my minions deeper within. Hahaha!!! Or, you can run out through the passage to the north, like your friend Igor has backed into, and yell 'Banana' at the exit! Bwaaah-haa--haaa!!!
Good luck, Pathfinders."
"Don't even think of taking the passage to the south. I'm heading to a Taylor Swift concert that way on a different world in the future. Bwaaa-haaa-haa!!!"
Lights! Camera! Action!!! Roll 'em, Eka!!!

"Ssomeone doessn't realisse that he ssoundss like a doofuss when he doess that." Eka quips, trying to shake off how startled she was by the voice's intrusion. After ascertaining that the source of the voice isn't about to attack them, she takes a deep breath and begins trying to disable the trap.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 7 - 2 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 - 2 + 5 + 1 = 14
No! I don't wanna die!

We might anyway. It sure was nice knowing you guys.

I doubt it will be enough damage to kill anyone. So relax. :)

![]() |

Drukpa stands ready, certain he is not about to get a face full of acid.

GM Roll4initiative |

Eka doesn't disable the trap, nor does she set it off.
You can try again. You didn't fail by more than 5.

![]() |

This time Drukpa backs up to get out of the way in case Eka needs rescuing afterwards. Adjusted position on the map

![]() |

"You almost had it that time!" observes Jilla. "Here, I'll hold a torch so you can see better."
I'll stay there and try to Aid Another.
I'll use my Liberty's Edge faction pin to add 1d4 to this roll.
Disable Device (Aid Another): 1d20 + 5 + 1d4 ⇒ (13) + 5 + (4) = 22

GM Roll4initiative |

Too bad Jilla didn't attempt it on her own. You would've disabled it. Well, let's see what Eka gets for her check.

![]() |

Eka doesn't disable the trap, nor does she set it off.
You can try again. You didn't fail by more than 5.
Well, at least my Tshirt reroll was partially useful.
After an awkward pause, Eka takes a deep, steadying breath, shakes out her hands, and tries again.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 7 - 2 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 2 + 3 = 28
Woohoo!

GM Roll4initiative |

With help from Jilla, Eka deftly disables the acid cloud trap located on the back hinge of the chest.
However, the chest is still locked and there is no sign of any key. It appears the lock will need to be picked as well.

GM Roll4initiative |

Whoops! I messed up a bit. We need to backtrack a bit to when Drukpa stepped off the dais. Eka gets to keep her roll for disabling the acid trap after this happens...
As Eka and Jilla are about to work on the trap on the chest, Drukpa steps off the platform. The platform suddenly shifts and then an explosion, filling the room with fire and engulfing the pathfinders in searing flame!
Drukpa, Eka, Jilla, & Therin need to make a DC 14 Reflex, save for half.
Fireball Trap: 8d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 3, 1, 5, 1, 5, 4) = 28 Fire damage.

Fitting, somehow, that Drukpa still managed to cause the trouble, even when he wasn't doing anything!
DC 14 Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

![]() |

Jilla cartwheels away from the blast just in time!
Evasion comes in handy sometimes . . .
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

![]() |

For this party a 8d6 Fireball outside of combat is simply a nuisance but for a Core 3-4 Tier party it could have picked off a weak party member especially if they were not at full hit points. :)
Igor puts up his hands as he thought that he had examined the area properly for traps (but apparently not).
"Don't forget to heal up completely before opening the chest."
The wizard recovers his Shield spell with a pearl of power and then begins to spend his time studying his spell book. He begins to cram in a spell for the final encounter.
Fast Study allows you to fill 1/4 of your empty spell slots in one minute.

Tiny Pebble |

Tiny Pebble shakes his head at Igor as the Fireball explodes. He guards his master and keeps an eye out while the wizard studies.

DC 14 Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
"Ow! I sswear! Thiss plasse iss getting on my nervess." Though, apparently, she does not swear, despite stating otherwise. "Thankss, Therin. Can you top me off with the wand before I get back to that thing? And ssomeone better make sure it'ss ssafe to sstep off thiss sstep before anyone elsse doess."
29 - 28 = 1 HP (That was close.)
1 + 18 = 19 HP
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 24 HP
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 28 HP
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 29/29 HP
Assuming Therin gives Guidance again.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 7 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 7 - 2 + 1 = 22

GM Roll4initiative |

@Igor: This was the only post you mentioned you were searching. You didn't mention you were searching the platform or the chest, so I just assumed you were looking for hiding or hard to see creatures around the room.
With soot-covered faces and singed eyebrows and hair (those that have hair), the four that got blasted stand up and wipe themselves off.
Therin creates a burst of positive energy, healing most, if not all, of everyone's wounds.
Eka uses her wand to get herself back to full health then goes back to work on the lock on the chest. It sure is a tricky lock.
Eka is unable to get it open this time.
You can keep trying, though. DC is 25.
Status:
Drukpa: 35 hp
Therin 33 hp
Jilla: full hp
Eka: full hp.

Included is the post (for evidence). A Retcon is not necessary but yes he did check for traps. He also wisely avoided stepping on the dais. :)

GM Roll4initiative |

Huh. I wonder how & why I misread that. Well, at least the trap on the chest was found, and, your PCs would probably not think to inspect the platform, and none of you are rogues.

![]() |

I forgot to add the +2 bonus from the mstwk thieves' tools last time, but that still wouldn't have made the DC. Anyone want to Aid Eka?
Eka sighs, shaking out her shoulders. "Almosst." She tries again.
These rolls include Armor Check Penalty, mstwk thieves' tools bonus, and Guidance. They don't include any Aid.
Disable Device DC 25: 1d20 + 7 - 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 - 2 + 2 + 1 = 17

Eka fiddles with the lock for a few more moments. There is a soft click inside that sounds like a latch releasing.
Lifting the lid of the chest... sloooowly...
you find another small, black velvet bag. Inside is a small chunk of obsidian similar in size to the other two stones you found (Image added to Slide 6). Also in the chest is a 2 foot long rod of twisted wrought iron. You discover that it is a lesser metamagic rod of extend spell.
You also find a note written in common that reads, "Look inside to see the ugliest things in Bonekeep."
Sticking your heads over the edge to peer inside, you notice the entire bottom of the chest is a mirror allowing you to see your reflections.
The room is cleared of all dangers! Where to now, Pathfinders?

So is there anything more for us to do? I thought you said that we can only explore 5 rooms and that this was the fifth? Or am I confused?

![]() |

I think if we put the final gem in the empty slot, we might get to fight the shadowy creature.

![]() |

@GM Roll4initiative - Can we explore the well or is that considered another room as well?

GM Roll4initiative |

You can definitely go back to any rooms you were already in. Just think of it as a five room dungeon.

![]() |

"I suggest that we check out the room with the well next. We should tie up all of our loose ends before going through the column of light."
As soon as the party is ready to depart. Igor casts See Invisibility and he extends the duration with the nifty new rod that they just found.

![]() |

Eka laughs lightly at Jilla's comment. "I think that necromansser wrote that note after he looked in there. Perhapss your fisstss should teach him how mirrorss work."
@GM Roll4initiative: How big is the mirror? Is it affixed to the bottom of the chest? If not, Eka might want to grab it, in case they run into that necromancer later.
"Let'ss go check out that well before we put the sstoness into the sslotss." Eka herds Jilla ahead of her. "Before anyone goess down there, maybe we should ssee if that scum on top iss flammable or corrossive, sso no one getss coated in it."
