Dr. Lazarus's Occultism (E): 1d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 15 + 1 = 36
Jayma realizes instantly that blood oozes do not have claws to do that sort of slashing damage, and furthermore, they're mindless. Why would a blood ooze seek a painting?
But then Dr. Lazarus looks at the pattern of the slash marks, and processes both the smell of blood and corruption, and makes a realization. There is one monster that is absolutely obsessed with art work who trails blood and has eight clawed limbs. Blood Painters are creatures that feed by killing people, then using their blood to paint the meals that they want. They are also known to want to study and possess masterpieces, and what could be a better masterpiece than the last known work of Elsen Moonkeep?
Dr. Thurston Lazarus, III

After disabling the magical threat, Dr. Lazarus straightens his shirt and puffs out his chest. Noticing that Jayma seems impressed, clearly missing her obvious eye-rolling, the Doctor says, in Osiriani, "It was nothing. Nothing I haven't done countless times in my many years of investigative endeavors."
Dr. Lazarus then studies the blood spatter to determine if it was left by the same creature responsible for the earlier blood evidence.
After his usual thorough investigation, the investigator corrects Tarcog, in Draconic, "My dear dragon, this is no blood ooze. It's most definitely the work of a blood painter ... a formidable creature with 8 claws, who feed on blood." After a short pause, he feels the need to add, "Their only redeeming quality is that they appreciate art ... as I do."

After some discussion, you decide to avoid the spectacular Hall of Mirrors for now, and follow Chief Jayma's direction. However, since the doors to the Master Bedroom are next to the Hall of Mirrors, you do get a glimpse of the Mirrors.
B7. HALL OF MIRRORS (briefly glimpsed en route to the Master Bedroom)
Though Lorres Manor appears much grander than the standard style in Ravengro, this room puts the rest of the house to shame. Towering, ten-foot-tall mirrors line the walls, the individual panes joined by thin lines of gold. Golden filigree crowns each mirror's rounded top. With both sides of the wall lined in mirrors, each side reflects the other, creating an endless pattern of increasingly diminishing mirrors and figures. Crystal chandeliers hang from the ceiling, and golden statues on marble pedestals stand in between the mirror panels, adding to the dazzling sparkle of the hall.
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
B2. MASTER BEDROOM
This master bedroom would've had a spectacular view of the garden through the tall bay windows, if the garden had ever been finished. Instead, it looks out on a tangle of overgrown weeds and blackberry brambles. A four-poster bed occupies the center of the room, carved in spectacular filigree. To the side, a tall standing mirror sits in one corner, leaning slightly backward, sporting a heavy layer of dust across its surface. A door to the east leads into a disused but grand master bathroom.

Everyone notices that a curtain in this room has been slathered in blood in elaborate whirls, and a Dr. Lazarus can tell that they resemble brush strokes. In the center of the bloodstained curtain, a hefty chunk of fabric has been ripped out, leaving a gaping hole. The jagged edges suggest they were made by claws, or perhaps teeth. Bits of frayed threads litter the floor beneath, along with dried drops of blood.
Before Dr. Lazarus can unravel the meaning of the ripped out and bloody curtain, though, two creatures appear out of the shadows of the bedroom and attack. One appears to be the corpse of workman, still wearing his red overalls. The other is transparent, but his form is also dressed in green overalls, with rusty tools in the air swirling around it. Both turn towards you.
The corpse in the Red overalls says, "Ah, the inspectors. Perhaps you're representatives of that bastard, Count Lorres. Perhaps you are innocent bystanders. No matter. No one ever paid Walter and I for the work we did building this place, and my... that bill has been collecting interest."
The translucent worker in Green overalls floats up in the air, saying, "Ooooooh! We'll take your sorry lives as a downpayment on what we've been owed!"

Amvolwatt easily makes the save, but fails to grab the talkative Bodak. Tarcog manages to splash the Bodak with holy water, and then demands the Bodak's name. The Bodak's skin sizzles noticeably, and it looks angrily at Tarcog. "My name? It's Kiss my --- AAAACCCCCKK!"
Dr. Lazarus's well-timed quip and hammer hit at the same time, critting the Bodak and causing it to crumble to dust!
Walter seems to slump and starts crying. "Noooo!" He turns to you. "I don't want to fight anymore. Can we stop now? Can you free me, please?"
