Looking worried at deactivating the device that has been positioned by the guiding intellegence, especially seemingly at the behest of the Vault Lord, Compucast decides to watch at the moment.

"It looks like you have this without my aid, but I hate to think we are being used as pawns by the Vault Lord."

Well, if I can turn it off without damaging it, then we can turn it back on again. Besides, it'll hopefully just be recognised as a fault and a simple Reset command will fix it

You are definitely not going to disable the guiding intelligence from down here. But you are correct that you are seeing some of its plans for future work within the vault.

Surprisingly, Katrina does not find any traps. Apparently Lunesha was not expecting you to look under the giant floating crystal for anything significant. Once she actually starts working on the jammer, she realizes that this is based on a model that she had to disassemble as part of her training. She quickly reroutes the wires so that any monitoring software will think it is still working and disconnects it.

When the jammer goes down, your comm units immediately ping. There is a distress signal on a standard Starfinder frequency coming from a residential area to the northeast. You are also able to send and receive signals from outside the vault again.

Q-K tries linking with a Starfinder outside the Vault, sending

"Jamming cleared. Rescue in progress."

"Time to wrap up this rescue. Are we going in hot, thru the front door? Or would you rather try to be stealthy?"

"Moving quietly is a bit of a challenge, out of water, for me," Grey says while sloshing her noodly water-arms, for effect. "I've got some Invisibility magic, though, if we wanted to give it a go."

Grey knows both Invisibility and Greater Invisibility, if we wanted to try the Stealth route! At least 6 of the former, and 1-2 of the latter (but it'd tap her out of her highest spell slot to cast it twice, so not ideal.)

"I wonder what the Guiding Intelligence was doing here, before Lunesha's interference. We know some of the buildings here are psychically reactive, and this system here seems to be describing thought experiments; is it possible that this Vault wasn't a Simulation like all of the others the Society has encountered so far, but was instead some kind of 'proving ground,' to help come up with other simulation ideas, or decide which are simulated? Curious," Grey will muse out loud (telepathically.)

"The Vault Lord is not one who has managed to attract my attention. He is lacking in honor as well as well as being unnecessarily vindictive. While some of my people would appreciate the additional violence, without honor it is meaningless."

It does seem possible. agrees Compucast to Grey. But the guiding intelligence has so far seemed somewhat inscrutable to my analysis.

The Starfinders have no trouble triangulating the specific building the distress signal is coming from. It is a block of apartments with a large central area.

I posted a rough plan in Discussion. What do others think?

Also, out of curiosity, while we're here in this control-ish room: is there any indication of what the big honkin' floating crystal above the lake is, or what it's for?

Doesn't seem like a lot of appetite for recon, so let's just go for the "cast Invisibility on everyone and make it as far as we can before the shooting starts" :D When we get close to the target zone, Grey will start buffing up. It looks like Z Data Z also knows Invisibility, so Grey will assume he can handle his own, and cast one on everyone else. She'll also cast See Invisibility on herself, and where necessary, shepherd the group from getting too separated, using telepathy.

"Interestingly, Compucast, in the reality I'm pulling this enchantment from, it looks like you're permanently invisible? I can't tell if it's a military experiment, or a military operation gone wrong? Now that is a story I'd like to hear."

I meant to say I agree with you Compucast. This Vault Intelligence, I've developed an interest in it too. And you're right. This so called Vault Lord needs to be brought to justice

Katrina is a bit uncomfortable with everyone being invisible even though she has Blindsense 60ft. It's so hard to know what everyone is doing. Plus it seems to her that everyone would still need to be sneaky as invisibility doesn't hide sound - and she's not sure about motion sensors either.

But, if that's the plan, she's not going to argue - much.

The Starfinders invisibly make their way into the complex, though nothing can mask the fact that they use doors, especially since they were expected. They make their way to a meeting hall. The captured agents are trapped behind containment fields — two to a field in the northeast and northwest corners of the room. Dozens of soldiers line the edges of the room and stand guard over the captives.

When you arrive, Lunesha appears, teleporting to stand between the Starfinders and the captives. She gives the heroes a mocking salute and laughs.

“Wonderful! You continue to impress. Well, I don’t need this many Starfinders, so maybe I’ll just execute a few to help me think…”

An oppressive psychic presence suddenly descends as the luminescent image of a robed contemplative appears. “Lunesha, we grow tired of waiting. Where are our Starfinders?”

Lunesha bows deeply. “Here, my lord. I only wanted some fun after delivering your prize. I’ve hardly killed anyone today. I even let the soldiers handle things to avoid any mishaps.”

“Our precocious child, we have neglected your needs.” The Vault Lord observes the field. “We greet you, Starfinders. It pleases us to indulge our loyal servant. Face Lunesha in combat. Survive and you have safe passage from our realm this day—you and your fellow Starfinders.”

Lunesha grins maniacally, stretches, and ignites her magma blade. “Finally! Time to dance.”

The soldiers move after the Vault Lord’s proclamation, with many filing out of the meeting hall to watch from adjoining rooms. The remainder move onto the northeast and northwest stages upon which the containment fields stand.

I can't seem to move the green thing, but I was trying to get the whole party on the inside of the wall of steam. Also since It seems if we move the green thing to the right 1 and down 2 or maybe 3 the whole party is on the inside. Also since this affects party's vision assume I went Last in init or delayed after everyone took their actions when I cast it. If I'm left out of the green after moving it, just move me south 1 or 2 squares. I was trying to position myself inside it too.

Edit, Finally got the whole party inside and moved the wall to where I wanted it, It kept grabbing other items when I tried to move the wall, and yes I had to move myself south 1 square.

Yes. Yes I do :D It's t-shirt time, baby. Let the record show that I am displaying a delightful Scotty's Brewhouse Ghost Goblin Ale t-shirt.

Also - this snake has spell resistance!? The absolute nerve of some bosses!

Empress-on-Grey focuses her eldritch might, trying to force her magic through Lunesha's barriers...only for the magical force to slip over the ramiyel's magical defenses, and slam straight into an absolutely priceless bottle of pre-Gap Eoxian blood brandy sitting on a shelf in the back of club, destroying it immediately.
"Not again!" Grey thinks to herself, as she tries to rewrites reality (with sartorial skill) to try and shunt in an existence where that worked...

Well...I mean, it's still better? I tried, y'all :D If 23 is enough, she's Staggered for 12 rounds; further, if my earlier 41 Intimidate is enough, she's Shaken for 1 round, +1 for every 5 by which 41 beats her DC, and the whole duration is doubled from Grey's Ferocity Blazon

If all of that goes through, then Grey's reaction was used up with Frightful Display.
If, however, the SR doesn't go through, then Grey would have had her Reaction still available; in that case, she would have used Resist Elements to give Katrina 15 Sonic Resistance, in response to her getting hit.

Grey's shaken ability doesn't trigger on a successful spell, right?

Compucast's missiles disperse harmlessly against Lunesha's scales.

Quantum-K fires two shots at the ramiyel. Without having taken time to set them up, however, they both miss their target.

Empress can't fake out Lunesha again, and the stellifera's attempt to lock her foe in place is shrugged off.

Other way around, actually - it only triggers if the spell succeeds :) It's a bit of a "win more," kick-'em-when-they're-down, ability. Link: Frightful Display

...looks like a -2 to saves wouldn't have changed the outcome of Lunesha's save vs Hold Monsters, though :(

@Z data Z FYI when a spell says the duration is "concentration + x rounds / y" like Wall of Fire or Wall of Steam, when you stop concentrating on the spell, it persists for the 'x rounds / y' bit. So for Wall of Steam, even if you stop concentrating, the wall will still keep going for 1 round/lvl.

Okay, this one's for all the marbles!
I don't mean to be beating a dead horse here, but is Lunesha Shaken? On round 1 she failed a save vs my spell, which triggered my Frightful Display, and I rolled a 41 Intimidate. Assuming that that beats her Demoralize DC (greater of 15 + 1½ her CR or 10 + her total Intimidate bonus) she should be Shaken for minimum 2 rounds, possibly more if 41 beat the DC by >=5. (Duration of the Shaken is doubled from Ferocity Blazon.) I just ask because a -2 to her Saves is very relevant for:

Grey moves farther from Lunesha's scary swords. Then, seeing her allies' sonic attacks splashing off of Lunesha, Grey thinks she'd very much prefer a universe where that wasn't the case. She'll try and ram through a reality where Lunesha trained hard against, oh let's say, Acid damage, instead, with Shift Resistance. DC 23 Will save; on a fail, her Sonic Resistant shifts to Acid Resistance for 1 round.

Grey has one Level 4 spell slot left, that she can use on Modify Outcome to re-roll a clutch attack, save, etc.. But, the damage on Katrina's Trick is pretty paltry. 17, from 6d8?? Thanks DiceBot :( Grey will hang onto that spell slot; but if anyone wants a re-roll, it's on the table!

Oooh, is that a just-barely-a-hit on Compucast I see? Grey will spend an RP and use her Round 3 Reaction to try and Disrupt Attack that, by subtly interposing new flooring from a more spacious reality into the area, such that Lunesha is just slightly off-centre from where she was a moment ago. Lunesha can make another DC 23 Will Save (this is her last time being Shaken for -2, I think?) or take a -3 on that attack which, I think, would make it a miss?

On Round 4, Grey draws her sole spell gem of Dispel Magic, and follows up on Katrina's observation to try and target Lunesha's Aeon Stone. I assume this is like a targeted dispel?

LOL

You can't dismiss the spell, but it will fade 10 rounds after you stop concentrating. I thought you already had, since you are casting other spells.

1d8 ⇒ 8

Compucast's well-aimed strike seems to disrupt the magical energies between the aeon stones, though her tough hide absorbs some of the impact.

3d10 ⇒ (8, 3, 5) = 16

However, she counters by whipping her tail at Compucast.

Tail Swipe: 1d20 + 29 - 6 ⇒ (14) + 29 - 6 = 37
Bludgeoning Damage: 1d12 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18

With Quantum-K's getting of 'em, Katrina manages to land a shot. Some of the electricity slides off her skin, but not all of it.
