Yes, you can take Merin's pistol. Yes, you can yell at Grey until she feels better. Betsy probably doesn't notice you, as she is just being displayed on the screen.
And I have definitely been through some of those scenarios where rest is failure.
Compucast |
Compucast looks over his companions.
"Well done team. And that shows what a team effort looks like. Very well done indeed. Let us see about recusing our allies, that surely will help even the odds."
He advances to the pit and activates his force soles ready for whatever horrible trap the Vault Lord intends to spring on the team next.
"This almost feels like one of Zo!s shows." he mutters quietly.
Katrina Scintilla |
It does doesn't it Katrina says as she jets back towards the group, determined to rescue the 'B' team. Presumably they're down there. Let's go team. Time's a wasting
She looks back towards the stand and mutters You'll keep
Quantum K |
Quantum-K hovers for a moment, transitioning flight mode from her jetpack to her force soles.
"Tight corners are easier using these. Plus, no fuel required."
As she walks down toward the subterranean entrance, she calls back to the group
"Let me know when you're feeling winded during combat - I know a few rousing words to get you back in the game."
Katrina Scintilla |
Maybe I'd better swap out the jetpack for the force field then .... but ... I'd rather find them as soon as possible.
She quickly heads for the elevator.
Tick tock goes the clock ....
Empress-on-Grey |
"I concur - let's go. But we should be cautious - we would be fools to trust this Lunesha, now. Katrina, Quantum-K: can you check this elevator to make sure it's safe? Being in an enclosed dropping box does not fill me with confidence."
When able, Grey will push for that 10-min Rest, but it's less urgent with Q-K having given her a pep talk - thanks!
cmlobue |
The elevator has a single unlabeled button, an entry door, and a ceiling hatch.
”Empress-on-Grey Perception”: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
“Quantum-K Perception”: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (16) + 16 = 32
“Katrina Perception”: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (12) + 20 = 32
”Compucast Perception”: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
There doesn't seem to be anything unusual about it.
Quantum K |
Q-K shakes her head.
"I'd hate for that bomb to explode because we spent time resting. I'm for grabbing a breather once we've disabled that bomb & rescued our people."
Compucast |
Compucast nods.
"I will take the front line if that will help." he rumbles.
He opens the hatch in the top of the elevator and looks down.
Empress-on-Grey |
Grey is good to go, plonking into the elevator, and then checking out the sights on her new side arm. She's been using a Diminutive-sized plasma bolter for so long, it's a bit novel to have a Medium-sized weapon in the waterbody's hands.
Empress-on-Grey |
"Thank you - but I hope I am just borrowing it from Merin."
cmlobue |
The Starfinders get into the elevator, and Katrina pushes the button. When she does, it free-falls for a few seconds then crashes into the ground at the same moment that a bomb mounted to the elevator’s exterior ceiling explodes.
Everyone is off-balance from the sudden drop, taking a -2 penalty to Strength- and Dexterity-based skill checks. You each take Bludgeoning Damage: 6d12 ⇒ (10, 9, 6, 12, 8, 6) = 51 (Reflex DC 20 half) and Fire Damage: 6d12 ⇒ (1, 11, 4, 10, 9, 10) = 45 (Fortitude DC 20 half).
Sorry, that one has a really high DC to find.
Empress-on-Grey |
Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Ref: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27
"Gaaahhwhwf-" Grey splutters telepathically. She'd very much prefer a reality in which she wasn't burnt, so she'll reflexively reach out across the multiverse to find one where she passed that Fort save. Spending 1 RP to use Thwart Ability to reroll
Fort 2: Multiversal Boogaloo: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 2 = 22
Quantum K |
"Desna wept! yells Q-K as the elevator plummets.
Fortitude save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Reflex save: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
She manages to roll with the impacts (takes 23 damage after her DR 2/-) but catches the full effect of the explosion (45 fire less 5 for her thermal capacitor).
Net result - Q-K is at 15 SP & full HP.
Compucast |
fort: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
ref: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
So... 45 -5 for thermal cap = 40 fire and 51/2=25-9 (dr/b) =16 budgeoning for a total of 56 damage for Compucast. Down to 40SP
"Underhand!" growls Comupcast, flexing his claws with feeling.
Quantum K |
Quantum-K slaps Z Dta Z on the back (in one of the few un-charred spots) saying:
Catch your breath - you're still in the fight.
Z regains 35 SP as Q-K spends an RP
(she kind of wishes that she could bolster herself this way as well.)

You emerge from the rubble of the elevator shaft) in a 120-ft.-long, 10-ft. wide corridor with a single exit at the opposite end.

You are wary, but see nothing unusual about the corridor.

Z Data Z (-55 SP, -6 HP)

Empress-on-Grey (-60 SP, -13 HP, -1 RP)
Katrina (-51 SP)
Compucast (-56 SP)
Empress-on-Grey |
Grey has basically no chance of noticing anything herself, so, on future GM Perception checks, could we say Grey would instead try to Aid Katrina rather than make her own check? A 50/50 chance at +2 to our Operative is probably the most helpful Grey can be.
Grey begs off for a moment, and pulls an Akitonian ikeshti survivalist out of her pocket (Medic Master Hireling) to tend her wounds.
Medicine vs Adv Medkit Treat Deadly Wounds DC 20: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (17) + 20 = 37
Grey regains 12 + 2 (Int bonus for beating the DC by >5) = 14 HP, putting her back to full HP. No one else seems to be missing too much HP, but Grey would happily Treat Deadly Wounds anyone else who wants.
After a quick minute of medical care, she's good to press on down this very usual and totally not suspicious hallway.
cmlobue |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Absolutely. Wouldn't change the results of this check, though.
Compucast |
Still smarting, Compucast summons magical energies around himself to further protect against the likely deadly traps in the corridor.
Casts resistant armor for aicd, electrical and sonic resistance/10
"Would you like me to go first, or would you like the honor?" he asks Katrina.
Katrina Scintilla |
I'll take it Katrina replies. But you wait and see how fast I can get behind you when the shooting starts.[/b]
She grins at the last bit but everyone can tell she's still rather peeved.
Compucast |
"Once the shooting starts, you are welcome to shelter behind me." agrees Compucast.
"

The vidscreen activates. “Someone left the door locked. Let me get that.” The corridor ahead seals as the walls, floors, and ceiling repeatedly slam into each other. “Oops! Wrong button. Well, I’m sure it’s nothing the legendary Starfinders can’t survive. Enjoy!”
The corridor is 120 feet long and 10 feet wide. There is a large lever labeled "OFF" at the opposite end. The first and last 10 feet of the corridor seem to be safe, but portions of the corridor’s walls, floor, and ceiling crush inward on pistons in a repeating sequence throughout the rest of the corridor.
And we are now in rounds, because how long you spend here affects what happens later. No enemies, so everyone gets their turns at once.
You have a number of options for what to do on each turn:
* Study the patterns to try to determine the timing to advance (Perception) - bonus only applies to the character who makes the check
* Look for a way to bypass the trap (Perception)
* Try to disable the mechanisms (Engineering)
* Move your speed and try to dodge them (Reflex)
* other ideas you come up with (varies)
Round 1
Z Data Z (0 ft. through, -55 SP, -6 HP)
Quantum-K (0 ft. through, -95 SP, -1 RP)
Empress-on-Grey (0 ft. through, -60 SP, -1 RP)
Katrina (0 ft. through, -51 SP)
Compucast (0 ft. through, -56 SP)
Empress-on-Grey |
"I knew I should have brought a spell gem of Dimension Door! Every mission, I tell myself I'll buy one for next time, and every mission I forget!"
Quantum K |
Quantum-K pauses briefly to try to sort out the pattern.
timing is everything perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19.
"I'm not feeling the rhythm." she says, triggering her forcepack & moving to the edge of the bad zone, in preparation for the next round.
Compucast |
How long did the elevator take to descend? From the description it sounds like "just a few seconds" We may still have haste active, as we only used three rounds of it during combat, and maybe another two rounds with fixing up and heading down to the elevator, one more round post explosion patch up.
Compucast |
"I think speed is important to keeping us intact here."
Will haste the group. With lucky Katrina can easily zip down the corridor in one round to disable the nasty trap.
Katrina Scintilla |
Katrina, once getting the Haste will attempt to get through by ducking and diving through the obstacles. She has a movement speed of 50ft before Haste. She also has Uncanny Mobility if that is helpful.
reflex: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33
She always was a bit of a daredevil.
Empress-on-Grey |
Empress-on-Grey watches Katrina dash through the traps closely, ready to try and interpose a more beneficial unfolding if things go pear-shaped in this reality...
Prepping to use Thwart Ability again if needed.
Compucast |
And with the haste that is 160' you could move in a full round!
cmlobue |
Quantum K is sure she played a vidgame like this, but can't figure out the pattern.
Z Data Z has no better luck looking for the important wires here.
Compucast once again grants the group swiftness.
Empress-on-Grey is prepared to find a Katrina that makes it through safely, but the one here manages to dodge out of the way of all the various dangerous bits.
Round 2
Z Data Z (0 ft. through, -55 SP, -6 HP, haste)
Quantum-K (0 ft. through, -95 SP, -1 RP, haste)
Empress-on-Grey (0 ft. through, -60 SP, -1 RP, haste)
Katrina (120 ft. through, -51 SP, haste)
Compucast (0 ft. through, -56 SP, haste)
Quantum K |
Reflex to dodge the smashing walls: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27
Q-K launches into the gauntlet, jinking & dodging her way past the various obstacles. She arrives on the other side bare moments after Katrina.
Empress-on-Grey |
hoping this isn't another trap.
I had mentioned in the Discussion channel, but I think the Off Switch is almost guaranteed to be another trap :D Do you at least want to try a Perception (or maybe Engineering? Sense Motive? idk lol) check against it, before you push? If I understand the setup correctly, there's space at the two ends of the corridor that aren't crushy-crushy, so we don't have a time pressure (beyond whatever non-specific bomb is strapped to the real B-Team, anyways...)
Compucast |
Compucast eyes up the walls, wondering if there is a way they could be jammed, even if the switch doesn't work.
engineering: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (17) + 21 = 38
cmlobue |
8d12 ⇒ (5, 12, 5, 10, 11, 6, 12, 4) = 65
Quantum K dashes through, buffeted by the walls but avoiding the worst of the bludgeoning.
Katrina grabs for the lever that says "OFF". The rest of the party screams at her to not pull it, and she holds off at the last moment.
As she does, Compucast and Z Data Z rip open panels and locate the wiring that controls the walls.
Good thing. The lever activates traps in the safe zones.
Z Data Z (-55 SP, -6 HP, haste)
Quantum-K (-110 SP, -17 HP, -1 RP, haste)
Empress-on-Grey (-60 SP, -1 RP, haste)
Katrina (-51 SP, haste)
Compucast (-56 SP, haste)
Anything to do before moving on?
Empress-on-Grey |
Wait so the Off Switch really was trapped?? HA! Yes! Season 2 instincts for the win :D
Grey will gingerly move through the (hopefully) safe corridor, to meet up with Katrina and Quantum-K at the other end. "This whole place is one big gauntlet for us, isn't it...they really seem to have it in for us Starfinders. We must be very cautious going forwards - anything could be another trap laid for us." Then, noticing Q-K is slightly flatter than before, "Looks like you were nicked, Kendra: let's take a look at you."
Grey once again re-hydrates the ikeshti medic who usually lives as a dehydrated cube in her pocket.
Medicine vs Adv Medkit Treat Deadly Wounds DC 20: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (1) + 20 = 21
Oops...well, still, +12 HP back?"
Katrina Scintilla |
Upon the realisation that she nearly made a big mistake, Katrina is shocked to say the least. She had NOT seen that coming. Fists clenched, she looks like she wants to hit something.
