”Oh, my! I do hope he will be alright!” Alleli says, looking at Nox with concern.

As the elf leads you through the small city, she explains that Loskialua’s half‐completed appearance is deceptive; Oatia first built this city generations ago. The reason for so many new buildings is the recent completion of the “light‐line gondolas,” which prompted a boom in new construction. The settlement’s long‐term plan is to eventually extend their magical gondola line up a mountain called the Alhuenar Spire, so that they can turn the small Desnan shrine there into a vast temple and observatory.

Alleli also reveal that you’re actually not the first people from Golarion she’s met. Just last week, while working in the settlement’s main observatory, Alleli received a message from a young human oracle named Sakuachi who claimed to be sending a message from a city on Golarion called Skywatch. “A marvelous mind,” Alleli sighs. “Apparently, the young stargazer stumbled onto a magical telescope in Skywatch’s observatory, through which she somehow managed to transmit a message to our own observatory in Loskialua.” Though the connection was quickly lost, Alleli wants to study the transmission in the hopes of reverse engineering it.

Soon enough, you reach a small domicile. Alleli leaves you to rest and freshen up.

Nox seems unresponsive to the questioning and kicking of Sir Batman, the Corgi however grabs him by the nape of the neck and drags him along with the rest of the crew on their tour. For a bit until it drops him and paws at Sir batman before laying down next to Nox trying to nose underhim.

If aided the Corgi will much more efficiently carry Nox across it's tiny back and not dirty him, his clothes, or the street. Once they arrive at the home to rest it shakes him off which finally seems to jostle the sprite from his catatonic state.

"Uh ah..ohh um.. Ah Sir Batman, I just had the strangest dream. We fought scorpion monkeys, snake dogs, and colorful flying demon birds. Then we met some elves who said we were on a planet other than Golarion hah.. this thinlands place really does mess with the mind doesn't it?"

Sylva again points to where the blue dot was. “Golarion is more than three miles that way.”

In response to Alliel, she says borderline flirtatiously, “So… you and she are star-crossed… correspondents?” Sylva peers into the domicile. “Hold that thought. There’s so much to ask and tell… but I really am repulsive at the moment. I’ll see you after a soak in an elf-sized tub!”

Sylva doesn’t care if she has the tub to herself or not. She can’t wait to clean.

She wonders if it’s one of those magical baths that constantly purifies the water. She’s never actually been in one, or heard of one. But for all of the ridiculous and horrible things magic can do, surely there is magic that’s suited for water-breathing clean-freaks. (Not that Sylva was ever a clean-freak. It’s just that she’s never had gallons of blood and guts poured on her until recently.)

Nox holds his head as Sylva once again brings up an existential dread. "BUT HOW! Do you understand the amount of arcane conjunction required to go such a distance!? Itdoesn'tmakeanysenseandweresofarawayfromeverythingweknowhowarewealivebreat hingijus-" His panic'd tirade starts again and the Corgi simply lays down and places it's paws over it's eyes with a subtle whine not very thankful to Sylva.

As she starts toward that highly coveted tub, she looks back at her panicking friend and says, “Bathtub thoughts.”

She then disappears behind the door, and it starts to close. Slowwwwwly. The outermost side of the door moves more than three inches. At least four.

Sylva gives up and leaves it open. There is eventually the (barely audible) sound of a splash.

Meanwhile, in the bath…

Blood clouds the water on one end of the bath. Sylva sits on the floating bar of soap, scrubbing, scrubbing, scrubbing…

Eventually, she is clean. Dry. Dressed. She naps while Ravenna goes to wash up…

But when Ravenna returns, Sylva is standing by the door to exit the room. Donkeytail and Lemonsbane are both in their scabbards. She’s carrying her blades.

Ravenna, her mind still struggling to grasp all the implications of what they've learned this day, nearly runs Sylva over in her obliviousness. She stops, brush still halfway through her damp hair, and looks from Sylva to her blades and back again.

"Sylva...?" she asks, hesitantly.

“I… did a lot of killing,” she whispers. “A lot of… messy…”

The next few words are not audible, if they were spoken at all.

“I… I thought of throwing them…” A slight, unenergetic motion of the held blades attempts to clear pronoun confusion. “…over the rail but…”

Sylva imagines two wingless sprites like herself walking hand-in-hand, and suddenly, Donkeytail and Lemonsbane plunge into each of their heads.

“…I decided against that.”

She stares at the door. Committed. Indecisive. Frozen.

"Why don't you let me hold them for a bit," Ravenna says, kneeling down and extending a hand, "and we can talk inside?" Her voice is low and as gentle as she can manage.

Respectfully, solemnly, without hesitation or thought or regret, Sylva hands over her weapons.

“Kaneepo deserved it. The centaur too… she enjoyed killing. But when those two flying creatures bled all over me, I didn’t mind it. I even… not liked. I definitely didn’t like it.

“But I didn’t hate it either.” She shrugs. “I know I was just a cookie in a skirt to them, and maybe it’s because they weren’t people.

“I just wonder… how long before I…”

She can’t bring herself to say the words. She can’t cry. She can’t look Ravenna in the eye.

She stares at the floor.

Carefully, Ravenna takes both weapons in her hand and, even more carefully, reaches out to scoop Sylva up in her other hand. She brings the sprite up to eye level as she steps into the room they're sharing and closes the door behind her.

"You saved our lives, Sylva. And not just ours, either. All the people they would have hurt if we hadn't done something." She sits on the edge of the bed and sighs. "I can't tell you it gets easier. For some people, it never does. And maybe...maybe it shouldn't."

It's Ravenna turn to look away, but she's only gone for a moment.

"I remember the first person I killed. He deserved it, just as much as Kaneepo. But I still remember his fear, the rush I felt...the way my hands shook for hours afterwards. I felt sick for days. I can't say this is normal, because, well, who is? But it's good that it hurts you to hurt others. The ones who never feel it? They're the ones we're meant to stop."

A couple tears trickle. When Ravenna looks away, Sylva doesn’t feel so alone. Sir Bat’s moments of stifled emotion and Nox’s weariness of deadly battle start to make sense to her now.

She hugs Ravenna’s thumb, pressing her cheek against the tip. “Thank you, Ravenna…” She doesn’t linger in the position for long, but makes no effort to get off of Ravenna’s palm. “It hellos to know you went through it… though I’m sorry you did.

“Was there someone to talk you through, like what you’re doing for me?”

“That’s probably a good idea,” she says without moving from Ravenna’s hand.

You settle down and rest for the night. And as you rest, Nox dreams...

Nox:
You trudge through the dense forest, your glowing light dim and melancholic. The loss of your love weighs heavily on your heart, and you can't seem to shake the sadness that clouds your mind. You wander aimlessly, lost in thought, until you come upon a clearing.

As you enter the open space, you notice a figure in the distance, watching you intently. He wears a fine coat and a monstrous mask of white fur and thick horns, towering over you with a menacing presence. You feel a shiver run down your spine as you realize that you are completely alone with this strange and frightening being.

Despite your fear, you try to approach him, but with each step you take, he seems to move further away. You try to call out to him, but your voice fails you, leaving you feeling small and helpless in the face of this ominous figure.

As you struggle to make sense of the situation, you suddenly become aware of a strange energy surrounding the figure. It seems to emanate from his body, filling the clearing with a palpable sense of dread and unease. You can't help but feel like you are in great danger...

The dream ends abruptly, leaving you feeling shaken and disturbed. You are left wondering what the intentions of this monstrous figure were, and whether you will ever find the answers you seek.

In the meantime though, you feel a strange sense of power coursing through you...

You have gained the Awakened Power deviant feat as a bonus feat.

The next morning, Alleli takes you to meet with Jenthiel, a knowledgeable sage and popular figure among Loskialua’s intellectual community. Like Alleli, Jenthiel also speaks a passing version of Avistani Common as spoken on Golarion.

Between pressing you for the story of your arrival and your home world, Alleli and Jenthiel can also answer basic questions about Castrovel. They describe it as a lush, warm world full of wild monsters and predators. The most notable intelligent peoples of Castrovel are elves, psychic humanoids called lashuntas, and insectile formians.

When you describe the Missing Moment, the elves look confused. Castrovel has more aiudara than Golarion, but no such paranomarl phenomenon occurred here. The elves are eager to learn more about the Seventh Arch that somehow connected you to this world. Jenthiel asks to examine the Shadewither Key, extending their magical senses to examine its aura.

"Hmm. Interesting," Jenthiel says. "There is a familiar psychic imprint here. I’ve experienced this psychic signature only once before. My mother, Iskariel, revealed it to me so that I would recognize it again if such a time should come. It is the imprint of Osoyo, the Blackfrost Whale.

“My mother was a renowned healer, and also part of a secret society—a fellowship tasked with remembering the campaign against Osoyo. Of this being, I know almost nothing, except that it was a grave threat, a danger so terrible that even the mere legend of it was passed down to only a few worthy scholars.”

"The imprint on the key appears to carry a powerful curse as well, an affliction designed to kill any elves that come in contact with it. You would do well to keep it far from any of the Oatia. I will consult the other sages here as well as our records for clues on how to expunge this curse. In the meantime, you are welcome to explore all that Loskialua has to offer."

Sylva bids Ravenna a warm “Good morning!” She punctuates the greeting with a grateful smile, and an effort to appear cheerful. It’s not a false face so much as an exaggeration of the truth. She is better, and perhaps trying to push her emotions in that positive direction by appearing pos—

Wide eyes. Blood spray. A groan. Equine organs rain from above. Strange last words. Black blood.

“Good morning, Nox! Morning, Sir Bat!” Her voice is like a loud flower.


At the meeting…

Sylva agrees, “Anything you can do to remove the genocidal curse would be much appreciated.”

The whale piques her curiosity, but Sylva is mostly quiet. She left her banjo in her room and doesn’t know if Ravenna has the blades on her, or if those are in the room as well. (Sylva didn’t ask of them.)

Rising early to clean, groom, polish and shine, Sir Batman is seen entering the common area, carrying a banjo. The bronze-colored bat smiles at Sylva, bows, and presents the banjo to her.
I heard that you forgot your banjo!

The sprite winks.

At the presentation of information, Sir Batman nods in all the correct places. He even offers a few
Ahhhs, hmmms, great!

....during the fancy elf's speech.

The Champion of Mazludeh offers to carry the cursed key from now on to protect his friends.
Nox looks a bit elfish with his pallor.

He giggles.

Ravenna stares blearily at Sylva, her hair a tangled mess. "It's certainly a morning," she says, after too long a pause, before yawning. "Just...give me a minute."

As she returns her hairbrush to her pack at the end of her morning routine, Sylva's blades announce their presence to Ravenna with a glint of reflected sunlight. She looks at them, pensive, then brings them to the top of her pack where they might be easily accessed if needed.

At the meeting

"Thank you for your help," Ravenna says, inclining her head in gratitude. "Do you have any places you might recommend? Maybe a place I could learn more of your history?"


Jenthiel gives Ravenna directions to a library containing books about the Oatia and their astronomical discoveries. They also provide a list of several stages that dwell in the city that can help inform the gunslinger about the elves’ way of life.

Sylva’s eyes well as she accepts the banjo. She turns away, not sure what to make of the emotional response.

Don’t think about it. Just hide it.

Her head lowered, she says to Sir Bat. “I did… forget. Thank you.

“I’ll play something. Something chee… mm. An instru—yes—an instrumental.”

She tunes the instrument for now.

…and loves the sound so much, she doesn’t stop plucking the strings.

The instrumental starts off as a gentle ambient sound. Followed by an aggressive strumming. With feeling—her anger, trauma, guilt, visions of blood pounded into every chord.

Between riffs, she speaks to Jenthiel.

“That key was taken from the corpse of that creepy Kaneepo. Genocidal maniac. Mass murderer of elves.

“We killed him. Others. It was ugly business but we spared who we could, let foes surrender, those who would.

“The key brought us to you. To this world. Do you think it would bring us back? Do you want that?

“And what about this whale Osoyo? Do you think it bled inky-black like Kaneepo? Should we talk to the scholars? Can we do that?”

She starts to time the plucking of single notes to her speech, each syllable accompanied by a note. Her voice goes high, the note goes low, vice versa. The result is as musically compelling as it is honest—brazenly candid about the sprite’s psychological state:

“The Missing Moment exposed me to be materialistic, loveless, cold, wanting, insatiable… but it’s not money I crave.

“Its purpose.

“I mean, we’re not idiots that work for free but, it seems as if your mother, Iskariel, expected you to confront the signature of Osoyo. And here it is. And with it the the threat?”

Several notes rise to punctuate the question.

“This world she left you is beautiful. If there’s a grave threat, we’ll crush it.”

Her tune ends on a low note.

Ravenna watches and listens intently, deep inside her own thoughts. When Sylva is done, she opens her mouth to speak, but stops herself. Instead she simply gives an emphatic nod.

A little embarrassed that she just kinda let herself go, lyrically, Sylva places her palm across the strings to stifle the reverb. “Haha… yeah. No rush. It’s pretty here.”

She bows, straps the instrument to her back, and follows Ravenna to the library.


TRAINING MONTAGE MUSIC!

Sylva lays her banjo on the ground so it grows a dozen times larger in scale. She balances on a string, throwing punches and kicks as she crosses the neck, leaps to a different string, and crosses back…

…eventually she finds she can move faster—much faster—and her footing becomes more sure. She’s more aware of hazards and…

…and is it just me, or is the song in my head actually playing?!

The Champion of Mazludeh seems a bit too excited....


Jenthiel remains cagey about the dangerous option, declining to elaborate at first. You spend about two weeks among the people of Loskialua. While Sylva dedicates herself to retraining her battle tactics, the rest of you indulge in various downtime pursuits. Hubert Hedge, for himself, quickly makes himself comfortable in the elven city, lazing about and regaling any who will listen with whimsical tales of the First World. "I could get used to a life like this!" the talking hedgehog says contentedly.

Eventually, Jenthiel realizes that the resources available in Loskialua are not enough to remove the curse on the Shadewither Key. The sage calls you back together one day to finally detail what must be done. "It would seem, my friends, that the only option is to send someone to go find Iskariel and retrieve the information about Osoyo that we need. There's just one small problem: my mother has been dead for a hundred years."

As Jenthiel explains, Loskialua’s location isn’t a coincidence, nor solely related to watching the stars. Previous civilizations have come and gone in these mountains, and deep beneath Loskialua’s stony streets lies an ancient, sacred site—a place where great scholars of the past were laid to rest. In this subterranean grove, the memories of the best and brightest are preserved and watched over by extraplanar guardians known as caulborn, who use their unique powers to keep the interred knowledge from fading. Oatia call this place the Memory Cache.

The Oatia chose to build their city here because of its proximity to the Memory Cache. But the route down to the grove is dangerous enough that Oatia consult the Cache only in times of great need. Still, they’ve continued the tradition of entrusting their most important sages to the caulborn’s care. The most recent such sage to be given over to the caulborn was Iskariel, just over a century ago.

Though wise, the sages of Loskialua aren’t suited to adventuring. As eager as they are to help you, they aren’t willing to travel down to the Memory Cache themselves. Of the route, the elves can say little—it’s been a hundred years since anyone journeyed there. Jenthiel notes that the route to the grotto’s entrance is straightforward, though beyond its cavernous entryway none are certain what you might find.

“Go there,” Jenthiel intones. “Find the Gardeners, who tend that place. They will help you find Iskariel and retrieve the knowledge we need.”

late last night
Nox awoke with a start and a small paniced gasp, having fallen asleep somewhere against his companion familiar, was it getting bigger?
He lifted himself as quietly and gently as he could rubbing his eyes and going to the desk present in the room beginning to scrawl notes on his dream, something he had taken to with the particularly vivid ones since the missing moment. Frantic in his pace to not lose the details of the creature or perhaps person he had met within his own slimbering psyche.

in the morning

Nox stirs again on the desk, "ah whuh i'm awake i'm awake.." He looks down at the notes he took and quickly shuffles them away he'd talk to the others when they returned for the night.

The meeting

Nox raises an inquisitive finger ignoring Batman's comments about his coloration. "Do you happen to have a description of this Osoyo? Not that it may help us now but perhaps if we were to encounter... it in the future we would know to stay away from it. This is all a rather lot to take in at once."


Jenthiel shakes their head. "Unfortunately, I do not know much about Osoyo beyond the name and the psychic signature. I hope that my mother will know more, should you be able to make contact with her."

Sylva is submerged in water when the party is ready to leave. Her bowl is on a high shelf with rainbow colored cloths draping the cubby for privacy. The only way to know there might be something or someone behind the obvious Shelynite decor is the meditative music that, for some reason, is just… playing.

(If not interrupted, the music will fade after ten minutes.)


When you are ready, Jenthiel accompanies you to the city’s outskirts. Just past the edge of town, huge trees with gnarled branches loom over a wide, circular stone well. The well’s interior is lined with ancient stone steps that spiral down into the darkness of the earth below. The steps descend 30 feet to a natural stone passageway at the bottom of the well.

”This is the way. May Desna guide your steps,” the sage says with a bow.

Sylva is dressed entirely in black—black minidress, long black tea gloves, black fishnet stockings—all black from the knees up. On her shins are a pair of fluorescent rainbow leg warmers. The stealthy Shelynite just couldn’t help herself when she magically created the outfit.

“The best way to deal with a downward spiral,” she says probably of the steps, “is to land on your feet.”

She jumps down the center and drops the full 30 feet! (It’s like a 5 foot fall to Sylva!)

She attempts to remain silent and hidden from any prying eyes as she lands in the center of the steps.

Hide (+11 Stealth), and Take Cover if there’s a potential threat!


While Sylva leaps down the well, the more sensible among you take the stairs. Nox’s glow lights the way. The passage twists and turns for at least a mile, interspersed with inclines and declines and stairwells before descending down a final circular staircase. At the bottom of the stairs, the passage widens into a landing. To either side of the eastern exit, the walls have been carved with identical images of leafless trees.

The sky peeks into this sinkhole chamber through a fissure in the ceiling, hundreds of feet above the floor. Narrow streams of water cascade down the walls in a dozen tiny waterfalls, collecting in a pool to the south. Beyond the pool, the ceiling lowers into a smaller cavern that turns a corner and disappears from view.

You quickly spot two creatures hiding (poorly) amid the copious plant life covering the cave walls. Their basic shape resembles that of a spidery, spindly frog covered in delicate scales. The head has a simian muzzle, the lips of which pull back to reveal a squid‐like beak. Above the mouth, the creatures have three pairs of nostrils, which flare and chuff!

Everybody may act. The creatures are on opposite walls, each one 20 feet away and 20 feet off the ground.

Though notably slower on the draw than before, Sylva whips out her atlatl and tries to shoot a creature down!

At the well, Sir Batman runs excitedly to it and the bronze-colored bat-shaped sprite stops!

He flutters his bronze bat-like wings a bit disappointingly.

The sensible sprite then leads the Vanguard down, down, down (30' to a 6" sprite seems daunting!), down into the subterranean tunnel. Staying in front, Sir Batman follows the twisting, winding, serpentine tunnels, then more steep stairs, then more tunnels that happen to mimic those previously, down a final circular staircase. At the bottom of the stairs, the passage widens into a landing.

The Champion of Mazludeh's blue eyes peer at the cavern before them. His gaze wonders out across it to view beyond the pool at the ceiling lowering into a smaller cavern that turns a corner and disappears from view.
Placing bets on a green dragon sighting down that way.

Noticing the two layabouts on each opposite wall, Sir Batman grins.

Downtime

Ravenna spends the two weeks working furiously on a new, insane experiment: bullets that can heal instead of kill. Maybe killing isn't the only thing I can be good for.

Outside of her impromptu alchemist's lab, she does her best to provide Sylva with a quiet, supportive presence.

Crafting 4 Life Shot (lesser) bullets, DC 16: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 Success! Hurrying gets me 1gp of progress per day, so after 10 days I get the full discount. Total cost is 10gp.
DC 5 Flat check for hurrying: 1d20 ⇒ 13 Success! The bullets are normal.

Ravenna carefully picks her way down the stairs, peering out into the darkness. When she catches sight of the weird sloth...frog...insects, she immediately draws her rifle and opens fire.

To everyone's surprise Nox's companion Corgi seems to have doubled in size in the short time that they've been together or even more substantially here on this new planet, with little to no additional feed. The excited Corgi greets the group as they exit their meeting and Nox decides perhaps it's best to put the creature to work in some capacity. So he ventures into the city to purchase some sling over bags for the dog, they aren't big but it should help spread the load a bit.

When they reconvene at the house Nox is astride the Corgi. "I got tired of walking.. and this is.. so much faster. You ever hear the stories about the fey knights? Not that i'm one but now we don't have to burden Ravenna with carrying us all around all the time."

Towards the Cache

Nox rides astride the Corgi whom he has started to call Hildy and the addition of slightly longer legs or at least a bigger frame allows him to simply hop down the stairs with a slightly jarring action. But it's certainly faster than if he were to hop down them himself. "Oooh Sylva, Bats, you should try this for a while, it's quite nice actually there's enough puffy fur that it's a very comfortable method of travel. Good uh... good Hildy."

Naked Spider Moles

Nox shrieked at the grotesque creature presented to them. Luckily he'd spent some time studying up on strange creatures while they had some downtime.

Back at the house when we were all relaxing
While Sylva is relaxing in her cup on the shelf she hears an excited trilling in sylvan from another unknown lady.
(sylvan)"We're going we're going we're going."

However if she were to peek her head out she'd see no one except the excitable Hildy having a fit of zoomies around the abode.

Cave fight

A shrill voice comes up beside Nox's (Sylvan) "Nasty! Stinky!" followed shortly by growls and barks from Hildy.


Nox remembers reading about these creatures in Loskialua. They are immolises, psychic predators found all across Castrovel, especially underground and in cool environs. Mostly blind, they hunt by sensing the body heat of other creatures. When an immolis acquires a target, it focuses its innate psychic energies in an invisible beam aimed at its prey. The sudden influx of energy causes the target's metabolism to accelerate rapidly, spurring the creature's body to produce energy at a dangerous rate. This sudden rush of heat literally cooks the creature internally— innards burst, blood boils, and fat catches fire. The end result isn't just warm food, but a meal roasted to morbid perfection.

Nox bludgeons one with a projectile and Sylva strikes it with a dart. Ravenna's shot goes wide. Batman greatly demoralizes it!

The frightened immolis focuses on Nox, while the other concentrates on Ravenna. Both begin to feel hot under the collar...

Nox must attempt three Fortitude saves against Heat Beam (DC 18, 14, and 10). Ravenna must attempt three Fortitude saves as well (DC 20, 16, and 12).

Heat Beam (evocation, fire, occult):
The immolis targets a living creature within 30 feet and directs a beam of volatile psychic energy toward it, increasing the rate at which the creature's body produces heat. The target must attempt a DC 20 Fortitude save. The second and third time an immolis uses Heat Beam in the same round, the DC lowers to 16 or 12, respectively.

Success: The creature is unaffected.
Failure: The creature takes 2d6+5 fire damage.
Critical Failure: The creature takes 4d6+5 fire damage and 5 persistent fire damage.

Nox remains cool as a cucumber against these vile mole creatures.
"OOOh wait these must be Immolis, they can't see like us, but they sense body heat and then use their mind to cook your from the inside out." He points over to the pool of water, "Might be useful so they don't cook you?"

Another sharper piece of rock is hurled at the mole creature that was struck before, then Nox grabs the tufts of fur of his companion and urges her onward to the safety of the water.

Hildy barks at the mole creatures again until Nox grabs at her fur and leads her onwards, she dashes quite quickly towards the pool and with little care leaps into the water where her tiny legs kick to keep the pair afloat. The poofy hair making it a little easier to stay up.
