Waedin Craftsdotter |

Waedin stops coming forward and puts away her hammer. We heard someone gettin' hurt so we came to see what's up. Don't want any trouble...
One act put away hammer, rest of the turn trying to deescalate and trying to figure out if the ruffian means it.
General attempt at Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

Weadin can see by the young man who's been beaten to the brink of consciousness, and by the terror in the young woman's eyes that this man has no compunctions about slitting her throat.
But, in response to Weadin's disarming approach, he lowers the dagger, although keeps a tight grip around her, "If you don't want trouble, best you just ignore what you've seen here. We're gonna leave and take the girl with us. Official business, understood?"
Ascaede can still act!

Ascaede Voheque |

Not needing any pretense, Ascaede throws her hands out in front of her, almost as if to ward off danger.
”I hear you. No-one need be harmed here…” she says shakily, though a part of her training keeps her noticing as much as she can about the ruffians…
Aid: Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 - 1 = 25
Esoteric Lore: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 1 = 17 [Not sure which DC I use this against…]

Ascaede Voheque |

Oh, I didn’t see GM NABU’s post after Waedin’s. Ascaede’s response makes sense though given she is frightened…Maybe it is just a stellar Diplomacy roll on its own rather than an Aid…

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

I'd say Esoteric Lore will always qualify as Unspecific Lore. Either way, the Diplomacy outcome remains the same.Ascaede you have one more action if you.want to take it.

Waedin Craftsdotter |

Well Waedin has a lot of heals on the one hand, on the other I don't know if NPCs work off the same generous dying rules that PCs do and don't want to risk the girl just being killed.

Ascaede Voheque |

Ascaede stands haughtily, trying to master her jitters.
”We had to hurry - Boss Kreed says this one is ours. Redrock business. Hand her over.”
Deception: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 - 1 = 5

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

The head ruffian laughs, "Redrock Gang, are ya? Haha! Gee, why didn't I see you at the mixer last night? Haha!" The other two ruffians join in the laughter. "C'mon boys, I think everyone's learned their lesson. Let's get this strumpet back where she belongs."
The other two ruffians throw the beaten young man down to the ground, give him a final kick to the ribs for good measure, then stand in the path, interposing themselves between their boss and the party.
"No please! No! Help!" the young woman cries out.
We can resolve this here if you want to allow the ruffians to leave with the young woman, or if you.have other ideas we can continue playing it out. If so, Ustemir and Stepnik may act!

Ustemir |

Ustemir gives Kolek a subtle command (◆ Command animal) and runs out of the treeline (2x ◆ Stride), screaming bloody murder.
"Bear! Run away! There's a friggin bear here!" he charges towards north, feinting panic, and turning around every few steps to check his distance from the "pursuing" animal.

Kolek |

In the meantime, Kolek plays his part by letting out a furious roar and chasing after Ustemir.
Intimidation: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

◆ Raise sheild
Stepnik steps forward ready to throw whatever is needed should the situation escalate.
He looks warily at the bear to make sure it's doing what it's supposed to.

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

In a sudden change of tactics, Ustemir causes a commotion, and with Kolek chasing him, one of the ruffians doubts his life choices.

Shemar follows Ustemir's lead and runs and hides in the bushes. He can feel pretty confident the ruffians have lost sight of him.
Sebastien details the fine art of escapism to the frantic young woman.
I'm willing to GM Fiat the DC of the Aid to the DC of the Escape, but it's still just short of success :(
His words fail to inspire.
But his spell does grant her the motivation to try again.

Waedin Craftsdotter |

There's actually a reposition action in the remaster. It's a lot like shove and it's an attack action so suffers from MAP. Athletics vs Fort DC. 10 feet move on critical, 5 on regular, and you get repositioned 5 feet on crit fail

Ascaede Voheque |

Going to wait for GM_NABU to chime in on MAP - Ascaede can't reach the grabber as positioned currently even with three moves, but might be able to if they only moved 10' instead of 15'. Might be able, next turn, to use my Implement to interrupt any further movement etc...Also wondering which rules we are using for Trip - Remastered or the old style? Are they different? How does the new version work? My Player Core is in the mail...(a blink do....ummm...goblin dog ate my homework...)
Otherwise I can just flank with Ustemir....but as no-one has tacitly tried to attack the enemies maybe we keep with the "Arcaine Bear" attack!!!

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

Yikes I totally forgot about MAP. So, grapple maintained, first shove failed, second shove success, so only moved 5 feet. Will update map later. Keep me honest folks!

Ascaede Voheque |

But doesn't the Critical Success on the second shove/reposition mean 10', not 5'? Or does the first action of the round (the grab) incur MAP too? Ah, so the first shove was at -5, and the second was at -10 and therefor not a Critical Success, just a Success?
EDIT - oh, Sebastien already clarified that. As you were everybody, don't mind me...

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

OK, So looks like maybe I forgot to move them on the second shove, but where they are on the map is where they are supposed to be. This is what I get for rushing a post at the end of a busy day!

Ascaede Voheque |

Ascaede moves forward, zigging and zagging just a little until she ends up on the other side of one of the toughs Ustemir flanks.
"That bear is coming for you!" she yells in the gangster's face...
Intimidation: Demoralise: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Waedin Craftsdotter |

Waedin draws her warhammer again and tromps slightly around the chaos aiming to get to the hostage.
One action draw weapon again and two actions to move 40 feet

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

Gladly, there is no fail state for Demoralize.
Ascaede’s threats fall flat. Perhaps the ruffian is too concerned with the presence of bears and seagulls to be paying attention. But, once they realize the forest path is getting a little crowded, both goons ◆ brandish their clubs, and in panic, start bashing.
Ascaede 1, Ustemir 2: 1d2 ⇒ 1
The second ruffian swings away at Ascaede.
◆Snagging Strike: Club vs Ascaede: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 Hit! and Ascaede is Flat-Footed until the start of Ruffian 2’s next turn, or until she leaves his reach, whichever comes first.

Ustemir |

Ustemir feints once more as the man strikes Shae. "Hey! You leave my squad alone!"
He whistles, and Kolek charges at the man that struck Ascaede.
◆ Command Animal, ◆ Hunt Prey
Commandint Kolek to move (◆ Stride) to Ustemir's target and provide support (◆ Support).
Support Benefit Your bear mauls your enemies when you create an opening. Until the start of your next turn, each time you hit a creature in the bear’s reach with a Strike, the creature takes 1d8 slashing damage from the bear. If your bear is nimble or savage, the slashing damage increases to 2d8.
When Kolek is in position, he swipes at the man, once with each hand. ◆ Twin Takedown
Striking Shortsword: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Main Gauche: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 8 - 4 = 9
Shortsword Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 5) + 2 = 13
Main Gauche Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Hunter's Edge Precision Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Bear Support Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6
If any of those hits, Ustemir deals the hunter's edge precision damage once and the bear support damage per successful strike. I assume the Main Gauche strike misses, but the Shortsword could land. If you are not sure about the mechanics, ask away.

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

Hey Ustemir, it all looks good to me, except that…
As Kolek runs past the ruffian, he takes another swing with his club.
↺Attack of Opportunity, Strike: Club vs Kolek: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15Miss!
Stepnik may go!

Stepnik Bellow |

Noticing the ruffian that chose to attack him Stepnik decides he needs to even the score somehow.
"Hey! Why pick on me? I'm no threat".
He makes to turn and run... then suddenly lunges back to an attack.

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

To the ruffian's (maybe) surprise, the bear seems to take sides with our heroes! Ustemir calls for aid, and Kolek answers. In a flash of steel and fang, Ustemir stabs and Kolek bites. The ruffian looks roughed up, but remains on his feet.
Stepnik deceives his foe with a feint. Although the ruffian is caught off guard, Stepnik's dagger misses.
The young woman continues to wrest away from the leader's grasp.

We have to get that woman free before we can really move forward. What's her looking to do with... No, nevermind.
◆◆Grease
Shemar would like to grease the woman's clothing, giving her a +10. Spell dc 18, if she gets one.
"Langivar! Assail that main bag guy!". Shemar will tell his familiar.
◆command familiar
I imagine that Langivar Will make a strafing run at the guy trying to hold on to that woman.
Langivar "It seems that I might need to teach you some lessons. This is certainly not funny."

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

Not to do the whole, 'are you sure about that' bit, but Shemar, what is your goal in sending Langivar at the lead ruffian?
Also, I'm not sure where you're getting the +10 on Grease.
If you cast this spell on a worn object, the wearer gains a +2 circumstance bonus to Fortitude saves against attempts to grapple them.
Unless I'm missing something, it will make it harder for the ruffian to keep his hold on her on his turn.

Shemar Dunebright |

Not to attack, or get within striking distance, just to add to the 'flock of seagulls' in the area. Something else to be a distraction. Now, if Langivar interprets that differently...
A creature wearing greased armor or clothing gains a +10 circumstance bonus on Escape Artist checks and combat maneuver checks made to escape a grapple, and to their CMD to avoid being grappled.
Greased armor or clothing might be a magic item for all I know, but I thought that it sounded good. Totally your call.
Doh! I was reading first edition rules. My bad. Ignore everything I said, lol.

Shemar coats the young woman's blouse in grease. That stain will never come out. At least she's a bit more difficult to hold onto. +2 to her Fort DC to Grapple. I think she should also get a +2 to her Escape.
Langivar pesters the lead ruffian, buzzing about his head, but not close enough to incur an attack of opportunity.
Sebastien inspires everyone with his shouted obscenities. He really makes a show of it! With all the distractions, the ruffian doesn't see the rock flying through the air, and gets nailed. Since Sebastien was hidden, Ruffian 1 was Flat-Footed, Hit!
"Time to get out of here," the lead ruffian mumbles. "Hold them off, you nimwits!" he shouts to his two lessers. He's a professional, and he has a job to do, so he continues in his efforts to abduct the young woman.
