This is the Discussion thread for 2-14 Data Purge, tier 9-12. This is not recruitment. If we need another player, I'll open a Recruitment thread.
If you've been invited, please visit GM Nomadical’s Data Purge slides and drop a token on the cover page, post here with the below info, and then jet on over to the Gameplay thread and dot in.
Player Name:
Character Name:
Character Level:
SFS Number:
Faction:
Discord name (if you have one):
Have you Played and/or GMed this scenario before?
Anything weird or tricksy about your character that I should know, especially always-on abilities that give you rolls (like Trap Spotter, etc.)
New question: What is this character's greatest fear or phobia?
I'm only asking for a Discord name as an alternate method of communication in case we have extended or frequent issues with the Paizo forums as happened during a PBP con a couple years ago or recently with the whole Cookie Fiasco. If you don't Discord, that's okay; as I said, it's just a backup.

Player Name: Shifty
Character Name: Roquefort
Character Level: 9
SFS Number: 826-704
Faction: Acquisitives

Trap Spotter.
Blind Sight (Life) 10'.
Inadvisable to start bleeding near him...for #reasons.
New question: What is this character's greatest fear or phobia?
Roquefort has had a number of very grimdark missions now, which have included murderous demons, great old ones from the dark tapestry, and being clawed to death by an undead army once his ammo ran out as he sacrificed himself to save others. Given the amount of things he has seen in the great beyond he wonders what dark monstrosity or alien horror (Cthulhu) resides at the middle of it all, and when will it (Cthulhu) finally awaken from its slumber.
You were drawn to Liavara by the Dreamers’ songs, which awoke in you a resonance with these enlightened beings. Now you see the world around you in a new light, and you have a transcendent, innate understanding of the mystical power suffusing the universe. You don’t command this energy; the most you can do is accept it and absorb it—and when you become utterly in sync with those psychic reverberations encapsulated in the Dreamers’ songs, you gain oracular glimpses of things yet to come.
As he grows in power, so do his abilities, and so to his awareness.
Yes he's a Dream Prophet, but not all dreams are pleasant - indeed his are a growing nightmare.

Player Name: ‘Eκάτη
Character Name: Carlos 1-8-7
Character Level: 12
SFS Number: 342384-702
Faction: Acquisitives
Discord name (if you have one): Eκάτη
Have you Played and/or GMed this scenario before? No
New question: What is this character's greatest fear or phobia?
He saw real evil. Dark, cruel, terrible, inescapable, suffering and infinitely lonely. And in order to defeat it before it swallows the universe, he himself became like that. From a more prosaic one... He has seen really terrible tortures and their consequences (a real body horror), and maybe it can make him shudder... Although not. I think that's what. One day he got lost in a terrible maze at the junction of the material plane and the plane of shadows, a maze from which there is no way out and where there is no time. Or rather, where time flows differently. He wandered there, having lost his companions, for days, weeks, months, years, eons... He doesn't know for sure. Time has been erased. The scariest thing about this maze was that it was playing with Carlos, constantly throwing up visions and sounds of comrades who are very, very close... literally around the corner. This killed hope and made the halfling not believe in the reality of his associates when he finally met them.
He is afraid of getting lost again, already for eternity. Or worse, that he's still there. And he just made up all the subsequent events, finally going crazy...
(let me remind you that all three books of the horror adventure path Signal of Screams are reported on Carlos, and above only a small part of the beauties that are waiting for players there, hehe)

Player Name: B Viggers
Character Name: Compucast
Character Level: 11
SFS Number:100387-703
Faction: SS (Jad)
Discord name (if you have one): don't use it.
Have you Played and/or GMed this scenario before? Nope.
Anything weird or tricksy about your character that I should know, especially always-on abilities that give you rolls (like Trap Spotter, etc.)
Cache capacitor has keen senses in it (doubles his lowlight vision and +2 to perception)
New question: What is this character's greatest fear or phobia?
Probably that his magic would stop working. Or that the Veskarium declares war on the Pact Worlds again. He was brought up as a big of a runt of the litter and early on learned to quash any fears that might start to grow within him.

Hmm, just finishing doing my update to level 11 (this is my only scenario at 11, this bumps me up to 12). I spent ages tracking down why I thought I was already 12, and had filed a chronicle for Kultanien in with Compucast. *sigh*.
Anyway, other odd stuff.
Compucast has DR 3/-; However against bludgeoning attacks this is actually 9.
Often he will activate his forcefield in combat as well which improves this further.
He does have a whole ton of hp and sp. Much more than a typical techmancer. This comes from his Toughness feat, scoured stars survivor boon and pretty impressive constitution. Oh and he wears heavy armor, because.. Vesk.
He also has a (low) spell resistance of 15.
His spells per day is a little complex too.
In addition to his normal spell allotment he can:
Reuse one spell from his cache capacitor
Reuse another spell by using energised spells (drains a battery)
Get one extra casting of arcing surge, displacement or haste from his adaptive casting.
And can magic missile at will (eternal spell hack).
Why he still carries a pistol at all is beyond me. But you know, Vesk.

Quick update on seats.
Mike has a couple characters, but needs some time to get one of them finalized in PBP and deal with a last-minute work assignment.
Jim leveled Azzirm who will also be returning.
Back'Up leveled to 10th (I presume from a held AP chronicle), and I've invited him to join.
That will bring the table to 6 players, all low tier except Compucast and Carlos, but the APL is exactly 10.
I told Mike I'd try to start later in the week.

I filled up my charsheet here but stil have to spend some credits.
Thanks for calling me to join the team!
Player Name: Kirill Shtorm
Character Name: Back'Up
Character Level: 10
SFS Number: 157437-703
Faction: SS - Luwazi
Discord name Shtorm#9910
Have you Played and/or GMed this scenario before? I do not think so
Anything weird or tricksy about your character that I should know, especially always-on abilities that give you rolls (like Trap Spotter, etc.)
I like Starlight Form wich now also provides me with Fly. And I have many things related to vision like additional Darkvision, Trapspotter, Third Eye etc.
New question: What is this character's greatest fear or phobia?
Back'Up fears of degrading. That he again will be locked somewhere like an island in the Space. He likes to be free. He'd also afraid of mental degradation now when he found so much power in the Multiverse.

I need to level my PbP sheet up to match my Roll20 one, but I think I'll be bringing Al, all facts considering.
Thank you for the invite, GM! :)

Player Name: Azzirm T'sash
Character Name: Jim C.
Character Level: 9
SFS Number: 861-717
Faction: Ehu-Hadif (right now)
Discord name (if you have one): Janos Saber#8345
Have you Played and/or GMed this scenario before? Amazingly and surprising to say 'NO' to both....
Anything weird or tricksy about your character that I should know, especially always-on abilities that give you rolls (like Trap Spotter, etc.) Besides the 6 upgrades in a power armor (class/archetype modifications), I now have See Invisible permanently....
New question: What is this character's greatest fear or phobia?
Honestly, being left alone on a primitive planet with zero tech...no armor, etc. See Season 3-01 and 4-99 special.....both would have freaked him out a bit.... 4-99 didn't as much as, there was tech available...but battery life worried him a LOT. Part of the reason he carries way to man batteries for his armor (enough to keep them going for days and days).

I watched through this thread and should add that Backup went through horrors and Signal of Screams corruption together with Carlos.
Although he was a researcher and full of curiosity. Still he has flashbacks and prefer to avoid shadow plane. Fighting real monsters and bringing a lot of light helps kish to stand tall in face of scary things.
Shaman feels much more bravery being in powered armor.

Folks, my apologies. I said I'd start late last week, but things came up in my traveling life that kept me from being able to.
If we're all ready enough, I'll go ahead and start us.
@Mike, it'll be a little bit before we need a character update, so don't worry about that part. But we could use an intro. And is that a capital I or a lower-case l?

![]() |

Apologies - project I thought would be done two days ago only just wrapped up a few minutes ago. I'll get my sheet taken care of after I sleep/awake/eat.
And Al as in "you can call me Al" :P

![]() |

Player Name: Mike B
Character Name: Al 2O3 (as in the mineral formula for corundum)
Character Level: 9
SFS Number: 801-701
Faction: Second Seekers (Ehu Hadif) (...today, at least)
Discord name CanisDirus#6627
Have you Played and/or GMed this scenario before? Like Jim, surprisingly no to both.
Anything weird or tricksy about your character that I should know, especially always-on abilities that give you rolls (like Trap Spotter, etc.)
Al has a Phase Detector and a Radiation Badge on them at all times. They also have an "Invisibility Bypass Processor" that gives them constant "See Invisibility"
Ruby (Al's Exocortex AI) doesn't communicate openly, but is generally always aware of what networks she can connect to. Depending on mission briefing, Al often travels with their teaching assistant, Yang, who handles their student-facing/social interactions for them (Al is an adjunct geology professor).
Apparently I have over 30,000 credits to spend by tomorrow, so the above answer might get more added to it, too.
New question: What is this character's greatest fear or phobia?
Al is terrified of a reality in which magic (or worse, theocratic-influenced magic) sets the rules/laws of nature and hard science/logic can no longer be relied upon. They are wary about Witchwarpers in part because of this.

Annnnddd... we're off.
@Carlos: Do you want to switch out your token for the new masked avatar?
@Azzirm: Are you Large now? Do you want me to pull the old token from the last session, or do you want to use something new?
@Backup: Same question. Do you want me to pull the old token from the last session, or do you want to use something new?

![]() |

Done!

![]() |

@Backup: Same question. Do you want me to pull the old token from the last session, or do you want to use something new?
Token from the last mission would be perfect!

![]() |

Telepathic Bond, duration is permanent. We can communicate mentally at any distance while we are on the same plane. I can include up to 6 other creatures in this connection. I assume that these are all team members + Luwazi. It seems to me it can be useful for silent conversations (we have a hidden mission after all) and to quickly confer with the "boss".
I figured you would just use Divination (or something simpler like Augury if someone had that).
But she'll accept it, and it does make it easy to communicate silently, given the nature of your mission.
"I like redundancy, two is one, one is none."
Spoken like a true Emergency Services professional.
This next sequence is ... complicated to say the least. I'll try to get a gameplay post up later today before I go fly, but it might be tomorrow.

Folks, I really hate to do this...but I think I'm going to have to bow out.
Things in RL are just moving at such a haphazard pace for me right now - I haven't even been able to get more than 6 hours of sleep in a single go for the last 4 days, and there's no guarantee that won't continue for a bit longer. It's selfish of me to keep saying to myself "I'll get my sheet updated. I'll get posting before the PbP gets too far ahead," at your expense, and so I shall withdraw.
Note - this insane schedule I've got is not because of bad things. It's mostly all good, in fact. Just...insanely busy.
So please accept my apologies for holding you up as much as I have so far, and I hope you have a great game with your fantastic GM (while I will be jealous that I'll have to try to catch this one some other time).
All the best!

![]() |

Dang, Mike. Sorry to see you go, but I understand.
Let's pause here for a couple days. As I mentioned, the next scene is complicated anyway. I'll recruit for a substitute 6th, get them seated, and we'll pick back up later this week.

![]() |

If you still need someone, Tari is a 9th level Envoy (no inspiring boost though).

![]() |

Thank you both for the quick responses. I think we'll take Azara, as he was first in, but also because I've played with him before.
I'm going to make a transition post, then Azara can do an intro, then I'll move us on.

Mele Kalikimaka! - that's "Merry Christmas" in Hawaiian! And even though I don't actually celebrate, it's the proper way to wish this group good tidings from where I happen to find myself today.
Tho on Xmas day, I fly down to Sydney, arriving on the 27th for a 24-hour layover. Happy Boxing Day, Shifty!

![]() |

Merry Christmas, everyone who celebrates.
Ah, yes, Boxing Day. As everyone knows, a celebration of the day when Queen Victoria descended to the underworld and boxed Satan to redeem the souls of all British Subjects.
Hence "The Queen's Rules" when it comes to fighting...

Shifty |

Merry Christmas all!
Very nice you are in Hawaii, I just got back from that great trip to New Caledonia and Vanuatu and missing the tropics already.
@Nomadical - assuming that means 27 & 28, if you have time for a quick bite let me know, supposed to be 26c and nice weather, great opportunity for a lunch by the water.

![]() |

Meri Kirihimete !
That is our Te Reo Māori way to say Merry Christmas. Guess it is a bit of a transliteration, like the Hawaiian one.

![]() |

Being more pagan-ish person mentally I feel winter Solstice / Saulėgrįža (LT)/ Солнцестояние (RU) - is a sign of new year.
Christmas here in Netherlands feels not only religious holiday, but family and friends oriented.
All the best anyway!!!
And about your job @Nomadical - thats fells really cool and adventureing romantic to fly over the planet and visit different places. Thing you are also GMing effitently gives a lot of cresits to you!

![]() |

GM, I forgot to tell you about one important feature of Carlos' shadow corruption:
You are apathetic and difficult to stir into action. When you roll your initiative check, roll twice and take the worse result.

GM, I forgot to tell you about one important feature of Carlos' shadow corruption:
Shadow Jaunt | Stain wrote:You are apathetic and difficult to stir into action. When you roll your initiative check, roll twice and take the worse result.
I actually noticed it when I was checking everyone's Init modifiers, since there were new folks and level ups that happened. I saw "Disadvantage" which I know is a 5e thing, so I found the detail text on your char-sheet.
Annnnddd, I just noticed that I made a mistake. I swapped Azzirm and Back'Up in the inititives. Sorry.
Gameplay post coming shortly

![]() |

GM Nomadical, cool, thanks!
Yes, I really like the term advantage/disadvantage from 5e. Very succinct, better than "roll the dice twice, take the best/worst result".

![]() |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

In case you didn't notice, I seem to have made a bit of a hash of that last post. My apologies.
Not to make an excuse, but I landed in Sydney at the end of a long day and into a "min rest" - meaning the shortest legal amount of time off that we can have between flights. Basically enough to get some sleep, a shower, and go back to the airport. I tried to fit making a PBP post into that and made multiple mistakes as a result.
First, I wrote "Roquefort may Act" intending that he'd post, then I'd post again for everyone else. But I didn't swap the Bold tags on all the names, so some of you thought you could go, too. And in between there, I hadn't done Blue rat's attack.
That one's easy, I'll just have Blue take his turn as if only Roquefort had acted.
I also messed up the DC on the Acrobatics checks.
The base DC to avoid having your weapon pulled from your hands is 29. It only applies to weapons in hand, not those in holsters or mounted to powered armor.
Failing by 5 or more causes you to follow your weapon up onto the magnet. I did backwards mental math in my haste to post, and added 5 to the DC instead of posting the correct method of adjudicating a “failure by 5 or more.” So ignore all that about DC 34 and 36. Sorry.
So, Carlos, Compucast, and Azara acted out of sequence (but due to my error, not theirs). Azzirm & Back'Up may take their actions. Then the Magnet will do its thing, and we'll be back at the top of the order for Round 3.

![]() |

It happens to all of us. At leas you have a good reason. When I mess up as a GM, it's just because I'm not paying attention to something.

![]() |

Yeah, pretty much what Azara said, you had a very good reason. I think that kind of 'turn around' would mess my system up MAJORLY.
Anyway....I kinda figured you were just flipping the -5 to +5 on the DC...but I figured I would just let you post to make certain before I acted.
All good.

![]() |

And its a game. We all make mistakes. No worries.

![]() |

And its a game. We all make mistakes. No worries.
Exactly!
It isn't like this is a 5 Nova evaluation...and even if it was....what happened was explainable...and understandable.
It just got me confused. It happened...and we just rolled and continued going forward :-)

![]() |

Thank you all for the votes of confidence.
No excuses this time, as I’m posting from the Asiana Business Class Lounge in Incheon, freshly showered, fully caffeinated, well fed, and with plenty of time until my flight to Hong Kong for 2 weeks of R&R.
Happy New Year to all!

![]() |

Looks like we are about to have an impromptu family holiday. So I may be away from posting until the weekend. Please bot me as required.
CC will likely just keep the magnet from working if it is near starfinders, otherwise use his infinite supply of magic misisles to do 3d4+3+5 to a rat.

![]() |

The slow spell saved the day.
At half hit points, their morale condition has them flee beneath the waste pile to use their Corpse Growth ability:
Corpse Growth (Su): Once per day as a full action, a ratspawn can spend 1 or more Resolve Points to restructure its body and increase its size. The ratspawn is healed 3d8 HP per Resolve Point spent, up to a maximum of 12d8 HP. Additionally, the ratspawn’s size increases to Huge, its reach increases to 15 feet, and it gains a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls; these bonuses last for 24 hours, after which the ratspawn reverts back to normal size.
But the slow prevented them from using full actions, so they just stayed in melee.
(At high tier, there's 4 of them!)

![]() |

Outpost GM signups have begun. I'm going to run another high-tier SF scenario, #4-09 Through Sea and Storm for levels 9-12.
I have no idea if we'll be done with Data Purge before Outpost starts in early March. I suspect maybe, but I don't want to commit to it and then be rushing at the end.

![]() |

If there is still no slow progress in SFS (why? In PFS2e it is!), Carlos will be 14 level after the end of this adventure. Which puts me in a funny situation - there are characters of level 13 and 14, and there are 7 and below. And no one for tier 9-12.

![]() |

I have Gunnz available (hopefully) in the 9-12 range if Compucast is still tied up. Actually that is one I'd prefer to do on her anyway. But she would be low tier.
I'm getting into a similar state with no characters in the 1-4 tier at the molment, and 3 in 9-12. With two siting in the 5-8 bracket.
Might be time for a new toon soon.
