Welcome to Dolmenwood

OSE SRD

Advanced Fantasy classes OK

3d6 place as you want, 4d6 for main stat.

No recent races apart from Wood elf from Carcass Crawler.

Using "extra" good evil axis so Lawful (good tendencies OK)

No evil alignment, or "evil" acts IN charcter.

No posting of pirated material.

The Dolemenwood and Wormwood material is down but OK and recommended. Kickstarter in early next year.

Expanded armor from Carcass Crawler recommended.

Grand Lodge

I'm totally down for this... and downloaded the DTrpg doc...

What's the wormwood and carcass crawler stuff?

Edit... got it. I will need to have a think. Not having luck finding Wormwood material... any links you can throw?

I’m down too, really enjoying ose/osr games. I have to read the Dolemenwood stuff but it looks like a quick read.

4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 1) = 14
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6) = 15
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6) = 11
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2) = 9
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3) = 9
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 3) = 7

Is it 4d6 drop lowest for main stat?

Grand Lodge

4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 5) = 15
----
3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 4) = 14
3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 6) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 2) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 2) = 13

Cool.

Grand Lodge

Not gonna lie, was hoping for a 16 but I can trade etc to get that.

So are we doing Race/Class as business as usual or using the races as seperate rules in the Old-School Essentials Advanced Fantasy Player's Tome?

Any links to these other resources for those of us less savvy? The Dolmenwood on Drivethru seems to be more conspectus than rules document.

@Qstor: I’d be up for playing in this setting, any chance we can play as goatfolk?

4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 4) = 11
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 2) = 12
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4) = 6 OUCH!!!
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 4) = 11
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 6) = 14
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 2) = 14

Interesting, I've never played it before but would love to give it a try.

To throw the dice...

Spoiler:

4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 1) = 16
3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 3) = 11
3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5) = 16
3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4) = 16
3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 2) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3) = 8

Well damn, guess that does me alright.

Grand Lodge

Nice!!

Given the nature/fairy vibe of Dolmenwood I’m thinking Gnome.

Hit Points: 1d4 ⇒ 4

STR - 9 (11-2)
INT - 13
WIS - 9
DEX - 15 (15+1)
CON - 9
CHA - 7

I’ll flesh him out a bit in a few.

Grand Lodge

I'm going to go rogue with the 1d6 skill rules.

The lack of a +2 or +3 wont affect me there (there are some classes where thats a bit more of an issue) and I think my stat block is not a bad one as it stands. Dropping that 12 to a 10 won't help.

Strength 13 +1
Intelligence 12
Wisdom 9
Dexterity 14 + 1
Constitution 14 +1
Charisma 9

Skills:

Climb 2-in-6
Open Locks 2-in-6
Hide 2-in-6
Move Silently 2-in-6

He's an up and coming second story man who decided to take up adventuring when his freelance thieving caught the attention of a vengeful thieves guild.

Saving Throws
D 13 W 14 P 13 B 16 S15

Starting Gold 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5) = 17 wow... the last job must have been VERY lucrutive.

Sorry yes so for instance if you want a STR based fighter then 4d6 drop the lowest for STR. INT for a wizard...

I think the source material was pulled for the Kickstarter. I'm open to having people rework their PCs when the Kickstarter finishes IF we're still going lol.

I think someone posted a goatfolk on the Necrotic Gnome Discord. I'll check. There was one posted on Facebook in the Dolemenwood. If you aren't on FB I can post it.

I can't edit the top thread but

advanced fantasy

What in particular were you looking for?

Forgot about gold.

Starting gp: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 1) = 6

The rules are basically the same as Basic D&D.

OH there was tables in the Dolenmewood pateron material for random armor and weapons without spending gold.

SO like charters start with a backpack, a tinder box, 1d6 torches, a waterskin, 1d6 iron rations, 3d6 gold pieces, a weapon and armor suitable for their class and 2 random pieces of equipment.

IF folks would rather do that...Sort of like 5e but more flexible.

Grand Lodge

I have mad money! LOL... Rich! I tell ya! Rich!!!!!

I'll do the profile later.

@Qstor: thanks for the link to Advanced Fantasy, was more wondering about the other things mentioned (Carcass Crawler, wood elf etc) but stats for goatfolk would be all I really need. I can’t see myself springing for the Advanced Fantasy book so I’m not sure how I would make a Goatfolk-with-a-class (preferred option) and could perhaps settle for Goatfolk-as-class (less preferred option).

Friday Ill buy the book. Ill try and make a character as I can.

I'm also not sure what you mean by basic? I'll try for a Magic User or an Elf.

The original box D&D box set (after white box) is called Basic D&D (sometimes also called Redbox D&D)

I would be interested in this, but am curious - we need to buy the rulebook first?

I don’t think so. The OSE basic rules are a free download CLICK HERE.

It has the 4 core clases (fighter, magic-user, cleric, and thief) if you want to play something thing else you would need access to the material (either, the rules tome, Carcass Crawler, or the advanced fantasy book).

Thanks for clarifying Smiles-a-lot!

Yes you can use the classes for free from the OSE SRD without buying the book.

Other things:

1. I'm using ascending armor class.

2. and you can do race/class combos so you could be a eleven wizard or dwarven thief for example.

3. Characters like humans or elves can be from Dolmenwood. Halflings and Gnomes are from "outside" the forest.

Grimalkin and Moss Dwarves are native to Dolmenwood.

If anyone has any questions let me know! :)

The class from Fb is just straight goatfolk. I can post it tomorrow.

Ok, I want to start out simple - that is part of my quest with OSR :)

So I think I would play a 'Basic' class - a Magic User!

4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 5) = 17
3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4) = 11
3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6) = 13
3d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3) = 10

I guess that's Int17, Dex13, then all the others are similar (Str12, Con12, Wis11, Cha10).

How do race/classes combos work? We do a 'multiclass' of both?

Grand Lodge

4d6 drop the lowest? If so that 17...well...

If it is 4d6 drop the lowest, then that will be a 14 Int. Equally impressive! :D

I think I will be moving away from gnome I forgot they use illusionist spells and those spells are in Old-School Essentials Classic Fantasy, which I don’t own. I think I’ll go with a human bard or ranger.

@GM Qstor are you allowing humans to get the +1 con +1 cha optional racial stat bonus?

Liberty's Edge

Albion, The Eye wrote:

It's like AD&D where you get basic abilities like dwarves get infravision etc. a bonus to saving throws versus poison, spells, and magic wands, rods, and staves. Halflings get a + 1 on any missile attacks. and bonsus to saving throws like dwarves. Then you get your MAGIC USER abilities.

I don't anticipate running this for years so the party might not be past 4th or 5th level so no. If it was long long term and people might reach 10th and use race/class then maybe.

Liberty's Edge

looks like the GM closed out the other OSE game some of us where in.

What one was that?

Here is smiles-a-lot’s bard. I still need to flesh out his background a bit.

HP: 1d6 ⇒ 5
torches: 1d6 ⇒ 3
rations: 1d6 ⇒ 3

*Edit: What type of dice do I need to role for the two random items?

Not sure if you plan on using Moon Signs but I’ll roll anyway.

Month: 1d12 ⇒ 5 Harchment
Day: 1d30 ⇒ 18

Knights moon - Full moon

a d12 twice

d12 Item (×2)
1 Bedroll
2 Chalk (10 sticks)
3 Crowbar
4 Hammer (small) and 12 iron spikes
5 Ink, quill, and 5 sheets of paper
6 Lantern and 3 flasks of oil
7 Pole (10’ long, wooden)
8 Rope (50’)
9 Rope (50’) and grappling hook
10 Shovel
11 Sledgehammer

Thanks! Lots to consider there…

Interesting but I'll stick with the rogue.

Is the alternative armour anything like the stuff from companion edition BECMI?

Still finalising the profile with equipment etc but should be good to go.

3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 1) = 11
3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 4) = 7
3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 3) = 11
3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2) = 8
3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 1) = 7

4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 1, 3) = 11 -1 = 10

Awesome! Dolmenwood’s least capable scion of House Prongguard coming up!

Hex Prongguard.
Longhorn Goatfolk.

Str: 10
Int: 7
Wis: 7
Dex: 8
Con: 11
Cha: 11

HP: 1d8 ⇒ 5

I’m seeing a lot of rules being mentioned by different characters and have no idea if I’m supposed to find Starting gold or equipment in the basic rules. I’m using the OSE SRD linked in first post and the Basic Rules PDF I linked. Is that correct? Lachlann seems to be rolling for random equipment, and Raff has rolled 3d6 for starting gold - are they bard and thief specific or should I be rolling 3d6 for starting gold and 2d6 for random equipment?

I have no access to Carcass Crawler armor rules, but Longhorn Goatfolk are limited to Leather armor until 3rd level.

Also: moonsigns?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Sounds right.

Moon signs are a Dolmenwood thing and can be found in this Here Link as a free download.

I noticed it's rolled hit points and not max... 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Or max here.
