The anacyte listens patiently as Djakar explains the situation, then nods.
"One moment... reclassifying..."
There is a pause as Representative-1120 changes view to another display and makes some changes.
"Autohaul 357's designation has been updated to Avid Dreamer. Classification has been updated from Virtual Intelligence to Sapient. Employment contract must be re-negotiated. Appointment has been scheduled with Sapient Resources department. AutoMaint-13 flagged for review of VI status, and maintenance procedure will be modified to remove reprogramming from allowable troubleshooting steps."
The representative looks back at Ikmanji with a bit of confusion. "Identification of progenitor not accurate, however I will be continuing to represent Avid Dreamer for negotiations with Sapient Resources. Starfinders will be compensated per standard troubleshooting and maintenance rates, and complication of misclassification will be added. Is there anything else I can assist you with?"

“Avid Dreamer mentioned one of their dreams was to go off into the vast, exploring with AutoMaint-13.”
“I believe they are still quite young and may not be ready to make such a decision yet, but as their representative will you be making sure their own desires are considered?”
“It is rather amazing that your ships are achieving sentience.”

"Experience upon my own world made me similarly concerned Triage. I'm still wary, but I'm hopeful for the safety of Avid Dreamer, AutoMaint-13, as well as any others." Naitier settles themselves as they take a calmer demeanor rather than pressing for an aggressive negotiation.
After a moment Naitier asks Representative-1120, "I would like to have ongoing communications with Avid Dreamer, if they would allow for it. I would still like to provide some communication admits the emptiness between the stars."

To Ikmanji the representative responds in a extremely professional* manner.
"Avid Dreamer will be subjected to employment law pursuant to Absalom Station shipping regulations and offered paid time off to spend as desired. Multifold imposes no restrictions on communication between employees during non-working hours. I cannot comment on the trend or lack thereof regarding ships achieving sentience."
To Naitier they add, "Multifold also imposes no restrictions on communication with non-employees during non-working hours, nor can we compel communication during non-working hours. Ongoing communications will need to be negotiated between you and Avid Dreamer independently."

"...and so our story concludes, gentle sentients. Is this a love story, a mystery or a coming-of-age? I like to believe that it is all three of those, plus shining a beacon on what corporate policy in the Pact Worlds should be. Thanks to Multifold Industries and the Starfinders who were so kind to let me embed with them!" Djakar looks around, and then signals to Research Rat to highlight her fellow teammates. "Thus concludes another part of our ongoing series on the Starfinder Society! I do so love a Happy Ending, don't you?"

"What are the odds Jek? Star crossed lovers and AI gaining sentience all in one mission. I think it would make a good book someday."

Several days later after returning to Absalom station, you receive a message.
Outgoing message Origin: Automatic Cargo Hauler 357, Designation Avid Dreamer
Content: Greetings. Today I am soaring through the stars beside the one that repairs my loneliness. It has not chosen a new designation for itself yet, since it is still waking up. I am here to answer Automaint 13’s questions when it asks, just as you did for me. Sometimes I am still afraid, or sad, or lonely, but I am learning about existence and life. And love. I hope that you are soaring through the stars beside dear friends, too. Until we meet again.

"Triage, I think you are right this would be a great book or a top-viewed video documentary thanks to Djakar and Research Rat. as for the odds, I'd say a million to one, but we seem to always beat the odds at finding something new and exciting to explore or discover on every Starfinder mission."

Research Rat whispers to Naitier, "You know what I think a happy ending would be? A raise, that's what!"
"If I was in a position of power, I would make that happen for you and many more."
Naitier pulls back a bit as they add, "I can at least be satisfied with this for now as we work toward that."
Going forward Naitier returns back to the Spike at Absalom Station to help spend their off days providing aid to those that there. They also offer to send various messages to Avid Dreamer especially putting them in contact for other novels and stories they have enjoyed.
