As Zharis crosses the star symbol on the floor, it flickers briefly. At the end of the hallway, the bright lights she carries with her illuminate another hallway. This hall has several arched openings along one wall, each five feet wide and ten feet high. In the distance, there seems to be a glow coming from another side chamber.
Tulgram's & Zharis' checks to not reveal any traps on the symbol.
@Zharis: I've placed a yellow circle to represent the glow in the distance, currently beyond the scope of your light.
@Jin: Are you moving along with the others or lingering in the mirror-slab room?
Zharis |
The text of Glow of Life says "...twice your solarian level" ... I hope that we can swap that out for my actual level, or class level for the temporary bonus, because otherwise it's pretty useless. Can you confirm?

Tulgram is are moving a little behind the brave Zaris. That's right, if she is destroyed by disintegrating rays, then let it be her alone, and not all at once. Simple practicality.
Zharis |

Tulgram is wise. Zharis wants the spotlight all to herself. :)
Xylian Xuuvats |
Xylian brings up the rear since his armor takes up the entire hallway, but he sends the survey drone in to survey, because that's what it's for.
Xylian will go in the hall last, since he's large size. Does the drone have any grabby apendages? Could just grab the treasure and fly away.
GM Jhaeman |
Xylian sends the survey drone to investigate the long hallway. The first room it examines contains only piles of soot and ash, and the same holds true for the second. But in the third room, its camera picks up an apparition of ash and embers! The creature's gaze settles on the survey drone and a look of rage comes across its distorted features!
That survey drone (the red shape in the middle of the hallway) is in trouble! We'll move on to Initiative.
GM Jhaeman |
Initiative (Round 1)
Tulgram
Jin
Xylian
Apparition
Zharis
Hani
Bold should go!
@Jin: I'm going to assume you're staying with the others, so I've moved your token.
Initiative (Tulgram): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Initiative (Hani): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Initiative (Xylian): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Initiative (Jin): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Initiative (Zharis: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Initiative (pyric wraith): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Zharis |
Love that idea! I don't see anything under "survey drone" though... do you remember what the official name was? I know that my drone has a grabby arm, but it is being used to hold a video camera. :)
Edit: Whoops, nix that. Ninja'd by the GM. Poor little drone... better call it back, fast!
GM Jhaeman |
@Zharis: I had to do some furious backwards scrolling to remember what Xylian was referring to, but it's the survey drone (a specially modified spy drone) that Beran gave you here.
Tulgram Coldforge |
Property damage? No. Tulgram walks forward along the corridor. The non-lethal mode on his weapon has long been disabled... Hani, Jin, let's go to the front line! And give Xylian a place to squeeze in too.
Did we have a rest of 10 minutes in the end? If so, I will restore biohacks now.
Zharis |
I took a 10 minute rest right before we decided on a new corridor, but I don't think anyone said they were joining me--?
I didn't see anything that mentions a grappler, although spy drones *can* be modified to have one. Pretty sure this one just has an enhanced camera and shotgun microphone scanners. (Zharis should really check on that footage so it doesn't get sold on the black market.) Also, the spy drones are tiny, so not sure how much it can carry. But if we are interested in just getting straight to the prize we might be able to figure something else out depending on how things are set up. Jump jets could help.
Xylian Xuuvats |
Xylian moves closer, but he's far too large to enter the crowded corner in the hallway!
Double Move
That survey drone is in trouble!
Noooooo T.T
Tulgram Coldforge |
Thanks everyone. Judging by the wording, I realized that I can restore biohacks only when I rest myself to restore stamina. This changes my understanding a little and yes, then now I did not restore them.
GM Jhaeman |
The survey drone's camera records the burning apparition extending a hand towards it before the image is lost in a flash of blinding light! Those in the corridor see a beam of fire strike the drone, but somehow it's still flying!
The wraith is shooting a ray of pyric fire at the survey drone.
The attack hits, but fortunately for almost minimum damage. The drone has 2/10 hit points left.
Pyric Ray vs Survey Drone: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Zharis |
Zharis calls to the drone
Come back immediately!
She isn't sure if Xylian set it up to only respond to him, but she figured she might as well try to get it out of harm's way before she throws a grenade. Otherwise Beran was going to be very unhappy. (Although if we do destroy it, there is always that elite deckhand drone we found that you could repair.)
She runs down the hall towards the doorway where the attacks are coming from, and at the last minute uses her jump jets to get a little bit of extra distance, moving right past the doorway so she can see what is in there and then tossing a Cryo grenade into the room with whatever is spouting fire at the drone.
Attack (Cryo Grenade): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Cold Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
(10 foot radius on the cold damage, so if it goes off by the creature at the back of the room it shouldn't affect the drone)
GM Jhaeman |

Zharis' tosses a grenade into the room, and the blast of icy air seems to disrupt the apparition's fiery form!
The wraith has to roll a Reflex save vs DC 16 for half damage and to avoid being staggered for one round by the cryo grenade. Result: It fails!
@Zharis: The drone is controlled by a control module (a special datapad, essentially) that Xylian has.
Hani is up.
Reflex save vs Cryo Grenade: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Xylian Xuuvats |
"Perhaps we should draw it out into our line of fire." Moving forward as much as he can and calling the drone back.
I can't move Xylian right now, but he moves in spirit. double move down to the corner and move the drone out of the room.
Zharis |

Moved Xylian and the drone, but let me know if I moved either incorrectly.
Tulgram Coldforge |
Tulgram walks heavily forward and prepares to strike when the monster shows its head.
ready action:
Merciful Capture Pole: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 311d8 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22 (piercing vs KAC; lethal dmg)
I'll use Thermoregulation Inhibitor
Jin Goei |
Jin double moves and stands next to the rest of the party.
GM Jhaeman |
Suffering the effects from the cryo-grenade, the wraith can only drift slowly into the corridor. Tulgram times a perfect strike with his weapon!
The wraith is staggered, and so only does a move action to get within melee range. Tulgram's readied action goes off and hits.
Thanks everyone for your patience. I have crossed the legendarily perilous Tasman and faced down the fire-breathing kiwis, and returned to tell the tale. Smooth posting from here on out.
Zharis |
Zharis backs off a little, wanting to avoid singeing her fur, and fires her disintegrator at the thing.
Attack (Screamer Decoupler): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Acid Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Hani Makoa |
Hani squares himself against this foe, maximizing his defenses.
Move action to use calibrate defenses, giving him +1 AC.
He then strikes with his pulse gauntlet.

Jin full attacks:
Aurora Storm Doshko vs. EAC: 1d20 + 13 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 13 - 4 = 24

Aurora Storm Doshko vs. EAC: 1d20 + 13 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 13 - 4 = 10
Electricity damage: 2d8 + 14 ⇒ (4, 3) + 14 = 21
GM Jhaeman |
A patch of the fiery creature's body is turn to freezing ice by Xylian's well-timed shot! Tulgram and Jin execute well-practiced close-combat maneuvers, adding to the wraith's woes!
Xylian's attack hits. Because the creature is incorporeal, it takes no damage from the half of the damage that is non-magical piercing, and takes half of the half of damage that is energy. In other words, 1/4 damage.
Tulgram's attacks hit and do half damage since they're magical with the fusion.
@Tulgram: Since Xylian did cold damage, what's the save DC for the thermalregulation inhibitor?
Jin's first attack hits and does half damage.
Fort save vs thermal inhibitor: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
GM Jhaeman |
Undeterred by opponents' vigorous attacks, the rageful apparition seeks to spread its flames on Jin! The smoke from the kanabo's burning flesh seems to make the wraith stronger!
And even worse, the sounds of combat attrack a second fiery embodiment of pain and anguish at the end of the corridor!
Attack vs Jin.
The attack hits. Jin, you take 9 F (bypassing fire resistance) and need to attempt a DC 14 Fort save vs a curse effect to avoid gaining the Burning 2d4 condition. The wraith heals 6 hp from inflicting fire damage.
A second wraith (Red) has appeared on the map.
Pyric Touch: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35
damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
Hani Makoa |
Hani continues to attack the first flaming creature.
to hit vs, KAC: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
damage, B+So, magical: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Hani also continues to optimize his defenses against the enemy (+1 to AC vs. this creature)
Zharis |
Zharis finds herself trapped between two of the creatures, so she attempts to tumble past blue into the room he is standing beside.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26
As she sails over the creature, she uses a small burst of her jump jets to propel herself a bit further. She hits the far wall with a slight impact, but luckily nothing her advanced Pahtra reflexes can't handle. She looks around to make sure her camera drone has a shot into the room, then smiles for the camera and takes a shot.
Attack (Screamer Decoupler): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Acid Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
The jump was amazing, but she might have to re-shoot the gunplay.
Just assuming the camera-equipped drone is trained to track her movements but stay out of harm's way, so probably getting a bad angle, but safe.

Jin lands another powerful blow, but the creature's wispy form foils a follow-up attack from Xylian!
Jin hit with the first strike for half damage, but missed on the second strike, as did Xylian.
Tulgram is up (and please let me know about the DC for the thermal regulation inhibitor--it may make the difference between this creature being up or dropping).

An anguished wail fills the corridor as Tulgram destroys one of the pyric wraiths! But the other one hurls itself bodily toward Jin like a flaming rocket, crashing into the kanabo's chest!
Tulgram's attack hit, destroying Blue.
@Tulgram: The thermal regulation inhibitor is actually a Fort save, but the wraith failed nonetheless.
Red is doing a charge attack vs Jin. Result: The attack hits. Jin, you take 9 F and need to attempt a DC 14 Fort save to avoid the 2d4 burn condition.
