Leaving the noble to his own doubts and thoughts, she joins Spica as the young wizard examines the items. When she shows the Lady the letter, she leans in closely to read it, letting her long hair brush across Spica's face. She gives a little moue - Oh, yes, I must tell Moo what to do. "Death cult fanatics, dahling? But zhey've got zhe Pathfinder ve're supposed to find. So I guess ve keep looking."

"Moo, here boy," she calls with a little whistle, and the zombie minotaur shuffles up to stand by her side staring lifelessly at the assembled noble hostages.

@Nikita Volkov: You do not need healing, you weren't injured. You’ve been attacked only once (at the beginning of the second combat), and as you are wearing your armor now, so a 10 doesn't hit you - not even flat-footed.

"Well, I should think so, given that I was appointed by Emperor Stavian III himself." The nobleman quietly contemplates aloud. "But, then, there are multiple districts within Oppara Prefecture. And, then, perhaps..." The man's voice comes to a complete silence as "Moo" mooves toward him.

Spica Capella wrote:
This looks rather ominous love. What do you think?

"You may address me as 'Magistros' or simply 'Your Lordship', should you so prefer as I am within some measure of debt to you, after all. As such, I suppose I could forgive some lapse of the social graces...," The nobleman begins to respond, then has a realization. Oh, I see. You weren't addressing me, just then?"

Looking through the passages into the adjacent areas to the east and southwest, you find only dusty rooms filled with props, costumes, and moldy backdrops and a few of the nobles who had fled into these rooms looking for an exit and are now trying hard to hide both their confusion and embarrassment. The rooms themselves, likely once the humble sleeping chambers for the priests of Aroden, are now clearly used solely for storage.

"Now that my life has been secured from the claws of the undead, what have you planned next?" Magistros Sebastus Hustavan inquires of the party. He holds his nose upon catching a whiff of "Moo" and takes a step away from looming zombie. Making a clear effort to speak while breathing little, he continues. "For I think I, as Magistros and Emperor Stavian III’s consul for the fourth district of Oppara Prefecture, am entitled to know your intentions, am I not?"

Still leaning in over Spica's shoulder, Vanessa takes in a long deep breath, savoring the young undine's slightly salty body aroma tinged with the perfume they had found in the market during their shopping trip earlier. She lets her breath out slowly to calm herself, straightens up to her full height, and turns her steely gaze upon Hustavan.

"I vill respect your position and title here in your country, Magistros. As I vould expect ov you if you ever come visit my estates ... in Nidal." She lets the implication of what the nobleman could really expect on such a visit hang in the air.

"I agree vith my friend, Magistros, you should remain here. For your own safety. And, if you like, I can leave Moo here to guard you."

"Well, I had come for a night of opera--as did many others, I suppose--noting the form and skill of the actors when, suddenly, a sound like a thousand gongs shook the entire building to its very foundation. This was followed by murmurs within the audience, a mixture of anticipation and curiosity, I gathered. For their part, I noted that the actors and orchestra, had left the stage, disappearing behind the curtains. I--for one--thought this behavior to be highly unusual and--if I must say--an unacceptable ending to the performance!" The Magistros notes as he recounts the events of the evening. "I was preparing to leave my seat to complain to the theater management when, moments after the gong,--and this, too, happened quite suddenly, in my opinion--the doors of the main space crashed open and a horde--and I do not use the term loosely--of these wretched smelling undead flooded into the area!"

"Naturally, I tried to rally a defense--after all, my great grand uncle on my mother's side, had served in the last Army of Exploration under General Orphyrea Amandar in distant Tian Xia and, myself, have taken a few, weekend fencing classes offered at the prestigious Rhapsodic College for which I have received not one--but two--certificates of completion!" The Magistros drones on. "Thus, while may others in attendance this evening were too shocked to run, I--for one--retained my wits about me and promptly sought strategic cover within the storage area."

"To my dismay, an assortment of others--some even being among the unbearded, like many of you--had also found their way into the storage area. Alas, they had made such a ruckus that it alerted that wretched woman with the pick--not to mention her zombie minions--as to location of my tactical vantage before I had had the opportunity to properly to fabricate and sure up suitable defenses," he continues unperturbed. "Calling upon my own wellspring of natural leadership abilities, I tried to organize some resistance against the encroaching undead and--to my credit--I held them off for a time. Yet, even my own resolve was challenged by the onslaught This--it so happens--is what made your eventual arrival so fortuitous. And for that I remain quite grateful!"

Derf Ling wrote:

"For your sake--and as in gratitude to your efforts to rescue me--I shall assume that I heard you incorrectly, retorts the Magistros. "As you saw, finding a 'cubbyhole' as you put it--a place with no exit and limited egress--has been attempted and proved--through the spectacles of experience--to be in want as a plan. Thus, I have no intention of leaving your side until such time as this threat has been vanquished!"

The Magistros entertains the idea for a time no longer than his glance at the decaying man-beast.

"I think it more prudent to remain together," he urges as he side-steps away from the undead minotaur. The nobleman continues side-stepping until he is adjacent to the dwarf.

Following Vanessa's suggestion, the party heads to the White Entrance, also known as the Actor’s Door. Here, the plain marbled hallway is filled with simple granite pillars, which frame a gruesome sight.

The floor is split by a dirty carpet. Once stained only by a century’s worth of artistic foot traffic, the formerly white carpet is largely stained crimson. Upon it and the surrounding marble floor lie the entwined bodies of multiple combatants. The hands of noble corpses grip daggers, makeshift clubs, and even a gem-encrusted rapier. Mixed in are the twice-dead bodies of zombies, their gray skin fetid and rotting.

A pair of double doors to the west stand closed, as does a smaller door to the south.

A new map of the area (complete with some added corpses) is now on Slides and I have moved the party accordingly.

Do you enter the no-longer-so White Entrance? Do you try to leave? Or do you head elsewhere?

Upon entering the White Entrance she recoils a bit before casting a Detect Magic on the pile of corpses. She will then follow the others to where they wish to go.

"Not at all," chimes the Magistros. "Here, within the glorious Empire of Taldor, the 'unbearded' are those who lack the fine bloodline and civilized upbringing of those of us with proper status. About 99% of the population, I would say."

"It is a matter of proper breeding, really, which I must say appears to be missing from some in your party. I did not, however, mean to insult you or the Lady. Indeed, I have quite a fondness for--as you put it-- 'females'." The old man raises an eyebrow in return, which is accompanied by a lecherous grin.

The lumbering former minotaur obeys, entering the room filled with dead--none of which stir even as the zombie carelessly squashes recently-diseased flesh with its sizable hooves. Nikita tries stoically not to notice the annoying aristocrat. He embodied everything that the proletarian rebelled against in his distant homeland... Nikita Volkov sincerely hoped that the taldorian workers would straighten their shoulders and stand up against oppression, throwing off such parasites... But now there was no time for such reflections. Now there were undead here and people were dying. And that was the main thing.

Nikita blessed the revolver in a whisper, from which it lit up like a torch (but without burning the paladin's hand), after which he stood up against the big doors, letting Moo go ahead.

@GM Valen: I'm sorry, it seems I did not interpret the surprise round correctly. And therefore, Grunjar's action makes no sense (because Nikita is surprised and cannot act) and is wasted (this is entirely my fault). May I ask if I can retcon his standard action into something that makes more sense?

If yes, Grunjar did cast bless on his allies instead. (Is Moo considered an ally? I think so...)
If no, that's ok, of course.

No matter the ruling, these are Grunjar's actions for the first round:

Grunjar puts a hand on Nikita's back and invokes Desna's Blessing, granting him a Bit of Luck.

"Lady Luck, guide his aim - and also his trigger finger!"

Ignoring this line, as we're into normal rounds now.

Lady Vanesaa tucks the sparkly sword into her bag as she haste-ily sashays out of the macabre White Room to join the others. She blows Spica an air kiss and mouths a silent Tsank you, dahling for the undine's lovely gift.

"Do zhese cults hire minions just for zheir atrocious fashion sense? More skulls? Reeeaaaally?" The disdain in her voice is palpable, but she knows a good solution to the problem. And it goes by the name ...

"MOO! Kill zhem." The minotaur obeys its beloved mistress by moving extra quickly toward the walking fashion-faux-paus' and stopping where it can reach all of them. Hasted but Staggered. Single move action at increased speed. Moved 45 feet.

"And you, be a good girl and kill your friend for me," she commands the female in the Blue-trimmed cloak.

Casting Murderous Command, Will save DC 18 on the Blue cultist.
